Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by LaCotti: 4:08am On Jan 10, 2023
Hi everybody,

I got accepted into two MPH programs in the USA: Tulane and NYU to start this January.

The decisions came in December last year. I’m yet to get the i20. One of the schools sent in an affidavit of support to fill. Total estimate is about 65k USD (30 m). I want to use my dads account as my sponsor/guarantor. The problem is he has only 7m in his account. I don’t know if I can also use my late mums account. She has 5m in that account. Also what are my chances of even getting a visa as resumption date is very close and I don’t even have i20 yet.

I’ll appreciate all suggestions and comments.

Thank you.

What did the man go there to do?
What is just wrong with people?
If your mind is clear, you NEVER advertise your wealth ONLINE to ANYBODY.
Is it by force to snap picture of your property and post online? Who forced you?
Live your life quietly. If you make money thank God and continue your silent runs. Nobody will disturb you.
Just stop attracting attention to yourself online is all I'm saying.
We don't know the details that led to the man's death.

This is a very sad thing to say. And it pains me that that is what almost everyone sees: that he was displaying his wealth. Not that he was a human being with rights. We as a nation really need to change our thinking.
Why will you ask what he went there to do?
Is he not free to move around? I’ve been checking this guys story since it broke and not a single news media or government official has spoken about it because they have this same mentality.
Nigerians are being detained illegally in that country and left to die. We just do not hear about it. Dubai is a RACIST country with very poor human rights especially if you have a black skin. Now I always say that you can never understand racism until you experience it: that another man should see you as been less than equal to animals just because of the color of your skin.
See I know people that went to that country on holiday as tourists and were arrested for no apparent reason then given a travel ban. They cannot leave until the case is solved
A Nigerian like you died in a foreign country and all you do is blame him?! And even the government is not saying anything. When that racist country sentenced a UK research student to life imprisonment because they suspected he was a spy even the prime minister had to speak up.
These people that I personally know that suffered in the hands of the CID had really bad experiences. Locked up in detention illegally for days without telling them why. Seeing other arrested Arabs come and go. One of them almost died.
And why should they arrest and kill someone for displaying wealth, legal or not. This same guy paid for the release of some that were locked up in their prison sometime back and gave each one 5000USD. This same thing can happen to your brother. This guy that was killed is your Nigerian brother.

Hi,
Was your interview in Lagos or Abuja
odehbrainard:
Had my interview today, wasn’t given the visa, my interview thus went like this.

Me: hello Good morning
VO: Goodmorning
VO: what countries have you visited the last two years
Me: 2016 Southafrica, 2017 UAE
VO: why are you going to Indianapolis
Me: To attend my bestfriends wedding where am to play the role of his best man.
VO: are you married?
Me: I and my fiancée ain’t ready to commit to marriage yet.

Handed me white paper and my passport. Well I really don’t know where it went wrong, only God knows, of the over twenty persons before me, only a lady whose son is a doctor in America and one family who were based in Qatar were given.

Good day all

I am currently applying for a B1/B2 visa. My intended travel date is August 13 and the next available apointment date on their website is around July 30.

The issue now is I currently have 9 months left on my passport (exp Feb 2019) and so will be left with just 7 months by the time I will be interviewed.

I intended renewing my passport but was told I could only do so within 6 months to the date of expiry. I then checked the Nigerian Immigration website and found I could apply for renewal even if passport validity is more than 6 months.

1. Will the time left (7 months by the time of the interview) on the passport reduce my chances or should I get another passport?

2. If I decide to renew, can I schedule an appointment with the current passport no. and go for the interview with both current and new passports?

3. Can I renew even though I still have more than 6 months? (Their website says I can but we know our people)

I am yet to submit the DS160 form but I've made payment using my current ppt no. I don't want to make any mistakes as I have been refused before (2014; 214(b)).

I'd really appreciate everyones advice and suggestions.

Thanks in advance smiley

Do you have another passport?
Me: No
*Then she puts my school documents in the passport*

Me and mum: Thank you

Can't remember if she responded but yeah. I'm so grateful to God. I prayed in my mind the entire time I was at that embassy. They were denying anyhow. I even met my school mate there and he was denied too. They didnt ask for his documents from the school but they gisted plenty with him. I also read this about 70-100 pages of this thread so thank you guys!☺️

[quote author=monchat post=67631382]Ps u stated (exp Feb 2018.,) But we are in May. When will the passport expire?

1.The 7months will not reduce your chances at all. The passport must be 6months validity, but everything depends on y time. For me I am looking at the schedule appointment time which is 30th July and the appointment time do move fast every day. I will advice u if u are not too in a hurry to travel why not quickly renew the passport, it does not waste time especially if u av a reliable immigration officer that can do it for u that same day or next. Then u use y new passport number and quickly secure a date in july. Is just that u might not get that 30th July but will still get a date within that July. Just take y time d'nt be in a hurry, just renew it, if it is possible. It also safe u the stress of carrying two passports to travel, especially when the visa is in the old passport that will soon expire few months. On the other hand if y immigration officer says the passport will take time to renew, then u use the current passport. It all depends on y time. Making payment with current passport does not mean since it is yr passport. The most important thing is the schedule appointment aving the same passport number with DS-160.

2. Note that the passport number u stated in y schedule appointment must be the same u will use for your Ds -160. It is the passport number u gave details of in y application that u must take to the embassy ps. So either u renew it and put the correct passport number or u use y current passport then when u get the visa u renew y passport. It all depends on the passport u will like the visa stamp to be. But will still advice u to take y time and renew y passport if what u are going to the USA to do is not urgent.

3. If u can renew it better for u. Just go 2 immigration office and verify but I know u can renew it., dending on y location . Here in Lagos with y immigration officer u can renew it that same day.
All the best and work on y strong tie this 2nd time.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
I MEANT TO SAY THE PASSPORT EXPIRES FEB 2019 (NEXT YEAR).
I WAS CONFUSED BECAUSE I SAW A TRANSCRIPT HERE THAT THE V. O. INDICATED THE PPT VALIDITY (ALSO 7 MONTHS). WILL QUOTE IT LATER.

@ LaCotti we understand how votings go. But it is the same voting system that brought Uti Nwachukwu and other Nigerian winners. Though the house chose Idris, Nigeria is 160million strong. For anyone to win, a Nigerian vote is almost certainly going to be there. Big Brother is full of last minute "twists" and "intrigues". I give it to Biggie, he certainly knows who to hand over his "hard earned" $300000!

Nope! It is not the same voting system. Big Brother changed the voting system after 3 Nigerians won.

Mr/Mrs Cozimo, Did you actually watch the show? Or did you just start watching around 6pm yesterday? Do you know that voting actually ended the 6AM on the day of the finale? Do you know that there were 7 Southern Africa countries, 4 EA countries and just just 2 WA countries in the competition and that Idris was the only East African left? Did you know that if Ellah(another EAan) had made it to the finals, Idris probably would have lost. Did you know that if Macky 2 was the only remaining SADC rep (just like Idris) he'd have won? Tayo, the runner up lost simply because of regionalism. He was not arrogant as you put it. He only seemed so cos he believed he deserved to win cos he put up a good show. Idris on the other hand was very calm and confident cos he knew he had at least 4 country votes to himself while Tayo was sure of just one Nigeria. Tayo did well and did not lose cos of his dressing. He has looked dapper on other days. Please, Cozimo check the facts before posting on this topic again. Cheers.
