PoliticsProphets Disagree Over Yar’adua’s Return by ladi02(op): 12:02am On Jan 02, 2010
A Prophet, Primate Theophilous Olabayo has predicted that President Umar Musa Yar’Adua would not return to the country and would be forced vacate his office any moment from now.

The Primate, Evangelical Church of Yahwah stated this in an interview with Saturday Tribune on new year eve, highlighted that the president’s seat will still be vacant as some power- brokers within the Peoples Democratic Party are preparing Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan to take-over the rein of governance.

Olabayo however said that the decision that Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan should take-over from President Yar’Adua would not stand the test of time, following an impending revolution that would bring about a God-chosen leader who would embark on spiritual cleansing of the country.

He explained further that ‘what will happen later in the year in Nigeria, would make whoever is abmitious to take up a political appointment, to have a rethink about it.”

Olabayo stressed that a one-time president and a past governor in one of the 36 states of the federaton should also pray against bereavement.

He said: “Thus says the Lord of the Hosts of heaven, that the two past leaders may not last the year, while the Olu of Warri, Delta State, should pray fervently in order to survive the year 2010.

“Kidnappers and ritual killers would take-over the country and this would lead to a revolution and the emergence of a God sent leader.”

In a related development, the Pastor of Inri Evangelical Spiritual Church, Oke-Afa, Isolo, Lagos, Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele said there will be mixed blessing for the citizenry in the new year.

He added that the rich will have protracted problems with their wealth, while the poor would get poorer if they are not prayerful as there is no indication for economic stability in the country.

Speaking further with the Saturday Tribune at the church’s premises on the new year day, he said, President Yar’Adua would return to the country very soon, but that the ailing president would be faced with a lot of political crisis, especially from his party members in the PDP and other prominent Nigerians who were dissatisfied with the on-going political situation in the country.

Accordingly he said, “God told me that Vice-President Jonathan Goodluck will not be allowed to be president in the event that President Umaru Yar’Adua can not continue as result of ill-health and he would not be allowed to get a ticket for re-election in the 2011 general elections and that the citizenry should pray against the incidents of bomb scare Aso Rock, Presidential Villa.

“In the new year there will be rumour of military coup while all the service chiefs will be removed.

The young man, who yesterday night attempted to ignite an explosive device aboard a North-West Airlines flight going from Amsterdam to Detroit, Michigan in the United States has been identified as Abdul Farouk Umar Abdulmutallab, the 23-year-old son of Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, former First Bank chairman, who just retired from the bank's board a fortnight ago.

The older Mutallab, who as at the time of filing this report, had just left his Katsina hometown for Abuja for the purpose of speaking with security agencies, was said to have noticed the extreme nature of the boy's religious belief and has taken several measures to tame him.

In fact, the former bank chairman, a close source told THISDAY, had a few months ago reported the boy's activities to United States' authorities and Nigerian security agencies.

The older Mutallab was said to be devastated on hearing the news of abdullFarouk's arrest. A source close to him said he was surprised that after his reports to the US authorities, the young man was still issued a visa to enter the United States.

The suspect, Abdulfarouk Muttalab who is an engineering student at the University College, London had been noted for his extreme views on religion since his secondary school days at the British International School, Lome, Togo.

At the secondary school, he was known for preaching about Islam to his school mates and he qwas popularly called ëAlfaí , a local coinage for Islamic scholar. After his secondary school, the young man, family sources said, once relocated to Dubai in  the United Arab Emirates from where he declared to his family members that he did not want to have anything to do with any of them again.

His father, Muttalab is a prominent Nigerian who is a regular visitor to the US where he visits for medical check up and holiday. He is expected to issue a statement later today. Muttalab is married to a Yemeni who however is not the mother of the young man now receiving treatment in Ann Harbor Hospital, Detroit  for burns suffered while he was trying to detonate the expolosive device.

Meanwhile, the federal government of Nigeria yesterday issued a press statement on the incident.
The statement signed by Prof. Dora Akunyili, minister of information and communications, reads:  " Federal Government of Nigeria received with dismay the news of an attempted terrorist attack on a US airline. We state very clearly that as a nation, we abhor all forms of terrorism. The Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck

PoliticsPotential Candidates For Nigeria's Next Leader by ladi02(op): 4:17pm On Dec 24, 2009
Vice President Jonathan would take over if the president resigns or becomes permanently incapable of discharging his functions, according to the constitution.

But there would then be fierce competition within the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) for the position of vice president to replace Jonathan as his deputy would be the de facto PDP presidential candidate in polls in 2011.

Jonathan, a southerner, is unlikely to stand in 2011 because of an unwritten agreement among the political elite that the presidency rotates between the north and south every two terms.

Following are some of names being mentioned within the PDP and in the Nigerian media as possible successors to Yar'Adua:
ALIYU GUSAU
A retired general and former National Security Adviser to Yar'Adua's direct predecessor, Olusegun Obasanjo, who remains a powerful kingmaker in the ruling party.

SULE LAMIDO
Populist governor of the backwater state of Jigawa, Lamido was foreign minister under Obasanjo. He is said to enjoy the support of the former president and of current Vice President Jonathan, whom he backed to power.

ABBA RUMA
Minister for Agriculture and a confidant of Yar'Adua since his days as governor of the remote northwestern state of Katsina, Ruma was a former education minister under Obasanjo.

BUKOLA SARAKI
Ambitious governor of the central state of Kwara, Saraki is another close confidant of Yar'Adua. He is a trained medical doctor and was director of Societe Generale Bank (Nigeria) for 10 years up to 2000, when he served as special assistant to the president on budgetary matters.

MAHMUD YAYALE AHMED
Yar'Adua appointed Yayale secretary to the federal government in September 2008, a powerful position which co-ordinates between ministries and the presidency. He had previously served as defence minister.

ISA YUGUDA
Governor of northeastern Bauchi state, Yuguda is Yar'Adua's son-in-law and a member of his kitchen cabinet. He spearheads the president's economic think-tank, an advisory committee set up to steer the country through the global economic downturn.

JIBRIL AMINU
A second term senator from northeast Adamawa state, Aminu narrowly missed being vice president in 1999 when Obasanjo preferred Atiku Abubakar over him.

PoliticsConstruction In Nigeria ‘to Become World’s Fastest Growing’ by ladi02(op): 10:47am On Nov 13, 2009
Construction growth in Nigeria will be the fastest of all markets, according to the latest 10-year forecast from Global Construction Perspectives and Oxford Economics.

The new study says China will overtake the US as the world’s biggest construction market by 2018, but that the fastest growth will happen in Nigeria.

The survey said infrastructure is the hottest sector to be in and that "it is set to grow in emerging markets by a staggering 128 per cent from now to 2020, compared with just 18 percent over the same period in developed countries”.
The report, which named Nigeria “global hotspot from here to 2020” says the nation's construction growth is even faster than India's, reflecting increased wealth and urbanisation resulting from the country’s oil production.

"Its population of approximately 154 million is urbanising at one of the fastest rates in the world, but construction is now only 3.2 percent of GDP," it said.
It stated that from 2009 to 2020, only Nigeria and India will enjoy higher growth rates than China in their construction output, but that despite India’s continued construction boom, China’s market will still be between three and four times bigger by 2020.
It says in just ten years, China’s already massive construction market will be worth almost US$2.4 trillion, nearly 20 per cent of global construction output.

U need to read more and understand how Bode George landed himself in Jail, an indictment by Ribadu published by a magazine made Bode George sue for libel. Which has now backfired on him

This is good. At least it is better than plea bargain given to the likes of Lucky Igbinedion. No option of fine, as for now, they are cooling off in kirikiri waiting for what comes out of their appeal.

This proves a point to the critics of madam waziri, SHE IS NOT A TOOTHLESS BULLDOG.

Ribadu cld not do anything to Bode George, now she has done something. Kudos to Justice Oyewole for not giving any option of fine. Bode George wld have said in his mind, "no shaking, nothing dey happen, na we get naija"

Waziri is following due process and rule of Law. A precedence has been set, wait for others that will follow. She is silently doing a lot and wld definitely achieve a lot. Am being optimistic.

Although they wld have also confiscated Bode George's assets acquired while in NPA, but we will get there.

Kudos to madam Waziri, Festus Keyamo and Justice Oyewole.
Madam Waziri didnt have anything to do with this, it was Ribadu that initiated it.i'm sure if she had her way Bode George wont be in Kirikiri now, grin

Six years after, justice is served
By Odunayo Abiodun

The former chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Olabode George, is to spend two years in jail. He, along with five other members of the 2001/2003 Ports Authority Board, were found guilty and convicted on a 47-count charge, including disobedience to lawful order and abuse of office by splitting contracts.

Justice Olubunmi Oyewole of the Lagos High Court sentenced each of the six accused persons to six months' imprisonment for each of the offences related to disobedience to lawful order, while each of the accused received two years' imprisonment for each of the offences related to abuse of office.

The judge gave no option of a fine and said the jail terms will run concurrently.

Justice Oyewole held that there were four major issues to be determined in his judgement - issues as to whether the prosecution was able to prove the allegation of inflation of contract, allegation of abuse of office by splitting contracts, disobedience to lawful order and conspiracy to disobey lawful orders.
