Alhajiemeritus:No brother don't get it twisted. A Muslims must forever be ready to learn from anybody (Muslims) in as much is the TRUTH. This is what Allah says in the Holy Quran that blessed are those who listen to talks and follow the best Hassan. You must be ready to extract truth anywhere and hold it with your molar teeth. That's why the Holy Prophet (saw) wisdom are lost property of a Muslim we should take wherever will find it. You see, my understanding of Sufism is like someone going for his PhD program, you can't compare that with just a high school or undergrad students. So there will be a time in which you will need a guide, sort of advisor that will guide you. One of the main problem in Sufism is those that are yet to understand the basic Islamic jurisprudence are directly moving to mysticism, it breeds nothing but nosensical we are seeing in Sufi nowadays. For me it's natural evolution of man's spiritual yearning which come effortlessly when you drift in that direction. That's why the question arise, how will you even get a good guide nowadays where majority of the so called sheikhs are not that different from the muridi. Lastly, the ultimate guidances come from Allah and his messenger, that is why even those that have physical or non living sheikhs have unbroken chain to the prophet. And sometimes have direct contact with holy Prophet(saw) and receive guidance from him thru uwaysis phenomenon. |
movado19:Wow! You brought back my memory of two decades ago where I normally used all my library tickets (5) to collect Islamic literatures/books like the one you shared now, while I am an engineering student. Such is the level of my "addiction" to Islamic materials then lol. I will have to read these screenshots in details and slowly. But from the what I can remember and a short answer to your questions. #1 It was unanimously agreed in Sufi circle that a guide (murshid) is always needed for muridi to grow spiritually. And there is a popular slogan then that "Those that don't have a guide would have Satan has their murshid". This is later divided into two. A. Those that have living guide B. Those that are guided by the Ruh of "dead" Sufi Sheikhs or Living without physical relationship often called uwaysis phenomenon. This phenomenon can be be seen in mostly all Sufi orders with physical murshid-muridi relationship. And some people without any know physical guide but are nurture by previous sheikhs. The likes of ibn arabi sheikh Akbar as fondly called has no living guide, Abu yazid bastami, Kharaghani, Shirindi etc. Also the one we're familiar with Shehu AbdulQadir jelani, Shehu Ahmada Tijanniy (though has some living guide before transitioning to non living just like Shk. Shirindi) and Shehu Ibrahim Niyas. etc. #2. Ibn Khaldun criticism of Ibn Arabi and the likes is well founded because the theories and concept ibn Arabi was dishing out was extremely esoteric that even elite find it controversial at time especially his infamous "Wahadahtul wujuhu". And you see this where imam Ghazali come clean from all of then that is impossible to always explain most of these Marifa in worldly languages. Is like trying to put an Ocean in a bottle is very difficult, no matter how much you try. To be contd... |
Alhajiemeritus:Yes ofcourse! I know of his professorship. Infact, because of his rich fatwas as professor to his people then in Baghdad, that prevented him many time to take his Sufi path, until he was somewhat compel by the Supreme power. You see irrespective of what we call our selfs, that's not what matters, is the substance in us that really count. Sufi, Salafi, shias etc are just names. We are all Muslims and that is it. And a well balanced Muslims is the one that is sound in bothIslamic jurisprudence (fiqh) and Islamic mystism (Ihsan) they're inseparable. @ the bolded do you mean you or Imam Ghazali (ra) ? |
Empiree:@bolded that's really problem, they don't know anything about tasawwuf yet they want to critique it. And that's extremely poor, especially when it comes to establishing the truth. That what imam Ghazali (May Allah have mercy on his soul) said earlier that, he has to understand the orthodox view before criticizing it. He spent two years studying philosophy before coming out with his famous book "Incoherence of Philosopher", which debunked all their junks philosophy with sound logic and irrefutable argument from Holy Quran. But when he ventured into understanding Sufism he didn't started criticizing, but he said "when I have study all the theoretical knowledge known about Sufism, I then realized that what is remaining is that of experience...." then he set out to acquire true import of their experiences" and the rest history because he then realized that true Sufis are the pioneer of Islam, and the sweetness that pervade Sufism can't be compared to other ilm. So, as a famous Scholar and jurist of his time, he was able to decipher many errors both in "puritans" view and many adulterated view in Islamic mystism. And write about this in one of his book. That's how to engage in intelligent argument not the way those Alfa are doing. Such is tremendous influence Imam Ghazali have in my understanding of Islam as a whole. |
Alhajiemeritus:May be lol ![]() |
movado19:Subnallah! With this level of your scholarship, I surmise you might be in your early forties or above. |
littleguy444:Sorry my brother. As we all know the definition of humbleness: "Thinking lowly of one's self; claiming little for one's self; not proud, arrogant, or assuming; lowly" www.wikitionary.com So, that it is self explanatory. But in Sufism, some Sufi Scholars will go to an extent that, if you consider yourself better that any other fellow Muslims, then you've got some iota of pride in you which is opposite of being humble. There was an anecdote when Sheikh Shebili if am not mistaken after entering Sufi path in which his murshid tell him to shave his head and go round the city, knocking at people door and greet them. And this somebody that is a former governor of the state. He find it irritating at first which is as result of pride in him, he later summoun courage and I do it, that's first step towards entering the path. Here he has cleansed himself of high opinion of himself or feeding his ego. So he practically humble himself and his spiritual journey become alot easier for him. So, it simply thinking low about yourself, so that you might not be tempted to always thinking you're better than others whereas in the sight of Allah those you belittle are indeed better than you. And the more you humble yourself, the more you're exalted by Allah because the garment of PRIDE belongs to Allah alone. |
Hkana:Movado19 a sister I can't believe this. With all these stuff "she" is dishing out here. I have not for once think in that direction. I doff my hat for "her" verse knowledge in mysticism if what you say is true.Égbó "Sister" Movado19 is this true . Perhaps I am beginning to believe what sheikh empiree opined earlier that you're somewhat related to/or ikupakuti...i may guess may be you're his "Twin Sister" ![]() |
Wow I have missed alot from here. Who is this guy casting aspersion on Ikupakuti, perhaps I guess he's himself the jinn trying to feign ignorance or otherwise lol. There is no substance in his allegation and we shouldn't be given him undue attention here. Imagine ikupakuti that last posted a little above 4 years ago, now somebody is saying the negative about him. We should beware of this type person here. May Allah bless ikupakuti wherever he is, keep him safe. Up till now I am still on his trail to find out about him. The guy that promise on getting the info me from Khalifat Sheikh Lukman Jamiu Bulala still tell me once in a while we talk that he is on it. BTW my good people you are ALL weldone, am kinder missed you all. |
herdeyimikar:Interesting brother. I could somewhat attest to his honesty as well because I couldn't imagine how he was able to lure an Ahmadi Scholar to their maolud. He seems very accommodating. About the mysterious light you talked about, can you give us details of what transpired that day if you're an eye witness? Narrate to us anything you know about his antecedent. We would like here some story about him. Thanks |
Empiree:No, he never did perhaps that picture May be from his visit to his son in TX, I guess. Because he is very busy with usual Friday programme and also his Islamic college An-Nur. #Yeah, and that is also result of sectarinism in Islam, each proofing their superiority over others. Infact I just pass once I see such thing unfolding. Is long you furnish us with those your beautiful stories and narrative. Perhaps you give us some little stuff now, is long overdue lol. |
Empiree:Oh that's interesting. The duo are something else lol. They so much understand each other that even till present day they are still doing programme together albeit in another station - Harmony not the state radio again where I am currently. Dr. Aliagan is much more into academics now, lecturing at Unilorin. And his son happen to bagged PhD degree in one university inTexas at very young age recently. It seems there is this mentality among the muridi to always wanted to exaggerate their murshid lol or belittle other murshid exploit. I see that as unnecessary rivalry. The fact is that most of all these true sheikh are brothers especially in the world of inner meaning. |
Empiree:No, he was Tijanniya Sufi Sheikh. He was somehow popular towards the end of his life. Most of his exploit were hyped by his muridi then but no doubt his one of Tijanniya Sheikh in Ilorin. During that maolud, I was just laughing because there was some people (Murid) that was just collapsing anyhow under the pretext of jazb from the speech of guest speaker Dr. Shaheed Timehin (an Ahmadi). After the death of sheikh, his muridi were saying that angel has carry his corpse up that is not within the grave again lol. So Aliagan to has explained what transpired that day because his was an eye witness during his burial. You know someone of that name that's mokondoro? BTW did you know Aliagan then during those days Ilorin? |
herdeyimikar:You're welcome brother. Hope you getting close to last page now lol. The truth is that many of us still come back to reread this thread, so no need to rush. I knew Sheikh Hassan Zarouq (May Allah bless his soul) , I saw him once during their maolud at around Oko olowo can't remember the year again. Though I heard so many stories about him especially his death . I remembered Dr. Abubakar Aliagan has to do a special programme on the radio then to debunk myth surrounding his death. Share with us what you know about him before and after his death. Thanks |
Empiree:Ok |
littleguy444:Waiyakum. |
Empiree:Who is he pls? And those stories where is been culled from? How authentic are they. Though I haven't watch to the end but I will definitely do, and so for his other videos. |
Hkana:Lol... Actually it was gradual process till I reached that. I don become "lazy" lol these days. But atleast by the time I spent 20-30 mins I would have feeling much like I have spent that previous time. You can do more than that trust me, just don't force it. If it 10 mins you can do comfortably do it and go sleep. Gradually you won't know when you go dey gbadûn am then instinctively you will spend more time on it. Just try to be constant with it and don't belittle your effort but rather thank Allah and increase will come naturally. |
Excel70:Waiyakum.... |
Excel70:Walaikum Salam bro. #1. If you have gone thru my previous posts here you should have seen where I shared my experience based of the blessings of salawat. And to just cut it shorts during my assiduous years when my sole prayer was salawat. I had the blessings of encounter with holy Prophet (saw) nothing less than five times. And one of this stood out that I am enraptured till now about the incidence. For the edification of us all, let me recount the dream. I saw myself entering a masjid where I saw holy prophet(saw) sitting down. Then I heard someone reciting an ayah "Innallaha wali malaikatul yusoluna Alla nabiyy......" till the end of the ayah which I joined the fellow to say to the end. After reaching the end I started chanting solat ibrahimiyah - Allahuma solo Alla Muhammad Wali Muhammad Kama sollaita Alla Ibrahimoh..... Before I even finish I have completely lost consciousness of that environment (this is near experience I had of what I do understand about fanau) then I saw myself in another platform maqam that I can't even describe. I was completely filled with"awe". #2. Not really necessary especially when just reciting it. Since most time I recite it towards the end of my Tahajuud- I mean after salama, so I mostly on ablution. So even my ablution was fitiated I didn't do any other one till I finished. I spent roughly 1-11/2 hour on it or less atimes. |
Empiree:@Excel70 the above is a good starting point till you begin to scale up with time. You're welcome back sheikh Empiree to your darling thread. |

I can't believe this. With all these stuff "she" is dishing out here. I have not for once think in that direction. I doff my hat for "her" verse knowledge in mysticism if what you say is true.
