Politics / Shi’ites Stone Policemen, Destroy Their Vehicles (photo) by LadyNaija(f): 3:45pm On May 14, 2018
Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) clashed with officers of the Nigeria police force at the federal secretariat, Abuja, on Monday.

The IMN members, better known as Shi’ites, were protesting against the continued detention of Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, their leader when they confronted the officers.

The protesters threw stones at policemen previously stationed in the area and two police vehicles got destroyed in the process, one of them numbered: NPF246-7C.

The Shiites also took over the roads within the area, leading to disruption of vehicular movement. A police officer was said to have sustained injuries.

Calm has now been restored in the area after some policemen deployed to the area dispersed the protesters.

Aside the regular protests, the IMN members have also been converging on the Unity Fountain to demand the release of El-Zakzaky, who has been in custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) for over two years.

El-Zakzaky was arrested in December 2015 after some of his followers clashed with soldiers in Zaria, Kaduna state.

Over 300 people were said to have been killed during the clash.

Anjuguri Manzah, spokesman of the federal capital territory (FCT) police command, was not available for comments as he neither picked calls nor replied a text message sent.

Food / Side Effects Of Green Tea by LadyNaija(f): 10:32am On May 11, 2018
In 2016, three days after a girl in the UK drank the green tea she ordered, she was admitted to the hospital for severe liver damage. Yet, advertorials abound telling you that green tea is the best thing to happen to your tea world. Used for centuries and known for its tremendous benefits including weight loss, green tea is the beloved of health-conscious people who drink tea.

Like other types of tea, green tea contains caffeine. Although its concentration is not as high as other teas, one needs to be aware of green tea’s side effects.

Ideally, green tea should be consumed one to five times a day. Excessive consumption can have adverse health implications including

Heartburn
Anaemia
Diabetes
Iron deficiency
Osteoporosis
High blood pressure
Stomach acidity
Lowered iron absorption
Heart palpitations
Glaucoma
One of the major causes of these illnesses is having it on an empty stomach.

The time when one drinks green tea is as important as the tea itself. This is because drinking it on an empty stomach can affect the liver. Health specialists recommend that is taken two hours before or after a meal or two hours before bedtime. The green tea should be brewed between 160° and 280° F.

It is recommended to consult your doctor before consumption if you have any medical condition. Also, do not drink it in extremely cold conditions.

Science/Technology / Lava Thrown Hundreds Of Feet Into The Air; Neighborhood Reduced To Ash by LadyNaija(f): 2:31pm On May 07, 2018
The massive lava flow oozes like fiery molasses, gobbling up everything in its path: homes, power poles, roads and trees.

The boiling vents roar like ocean waves, throwing lava hundreds of feet into the air and igniting nearby vegetation.

Flames creep across what were once lush-green yards, leaving a smoldering trail of destruction.

Trees and utility poles crash alarmingly to the ground dozens of feet from where the crackling flow surfaced.

It is a scene dramatic — and dangerous — as a menacing new lava flow from the Kilauea volcano was on a collision course with homes in the Leilani neighborhood of Hawaii’s Big Island.

The number of homes destroyed by Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano jumped to 26 Sunday as scientists reported lava spewing more than 200 feet (61 meters) into the air.

Some of the more than 1,700 people who evacuated prepared for the possibility they may not return for quite some time.”

“How can I walk away from this?” Greg Chunn said. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”

Two new fissures appeared overnight, Hawaii County civil defense officials said, bringing the total to nine that opened in the neighborhood since Thursday.

Fire officials conducted another safety sweep of homes Sunday and watched helplessly as the lava engulfed a green single-story house.

Anxious evacuees had hoped to return to their homes Sunday to check on their property and pets, but that appeared unlikely, given the new flow.

Greg Webber, another resident who refused to evacuate, said he watched eight of his neighbors’ homes burn.

“I won’t leave until it’s an inch from my house,” he said. “I’ve been through this a million times.”

Hundreds of small earthquakes rumbled through the area after Friday's magnitude-6.9 temblor hit — the largest earthquake to jolt Hawaii in more than 40 years. Magma moving through Kilauea set off the earthquakes, said geologists, who warned of aftershocks.

The U.S. Geological Survey said this event is far from over. More earthquakes and eruptions could cover the area with plumes of ash. The agency said it measured a jarring 477 earthquakes on the island over the past 24 hours, though many were small and probably not felt by residents.

Kilauea is one of five volcanoes on the island, an attraction for the 8.9 million visitors the state sees annually. One of the world's most active volcanoes, it has been erupting since 1983.

One of the biggest attractions, Volcanoes National Park, is closed because of quake damage.

Airport officials monitored the runways in Hilo for earthquake damage, and jetliners coming from the mainland carried extra fuel, so they could divert to Honolulu if the volcano becomes more active.

More than 100 people stayed at a Red Cross shelter for a third night on Saturday, trying to keep their spirits up and wondering what their neighborhoods will look like when they’re allowed to return.

Evacuee Ellie Garnett fretted about her four dogs and cat, Scarlet, whom she inadvertently left Thursday during the evacuation. Garnett said she took a carload of belongings to a storage unit but wasn’t allowed to make a second trip back to get her animals. Police and the National Guard block entrances to the area to prevent looting and gas exposure.

Garnett said she left the animals water but worried they might die from the poison gases that often accompany this kind of lava flow.

“They’re like my kids,” she said. “I should have taken them first.”

Politics / Imo’s New Levy Is Immoral by LadyNaija(f): 1:24pm On May 07, 2018
Last week Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha added to the list of controversies trailing his administration by imposing a N3000 development levy on adults in the state. According to a letter to monarchs of 644 autonomous communities signed by the state Commissioner for Government Councils Louis O. Duru, the traditional rulers were directed to raise about N6 million from an estimated 2,000 adults from each community for development purposes. The letter reminded the monarchs that the governor had since 2016 directed them to compel their subjects to pay the said levy, compulsorily writing the details of payment in each community’s Adult Register, to develop their communities.
The letter said, “Any recognized autonomous community that fails to pay the development levy will be merged with a sister autonomous community that has paid and the salaries/allowances of the traditional ruler of the erring community will be suspended.” The letter also said sensitization meetings and monitoring would be embarked upon to ensure compliance.

Imo State residents and many other Nigerians have condemned this directive and rightly so. The governor has the right to introduce new laws/innovations in the state but there are laws guiding these. What Governor Okorocha is asking for is tax and tax cannot be imposed arbitrarily. Asking traditional rulers to pursue the idea vigorously and threatening them with suspension if they fail is definitely not the way to go. If indeed the governor is desirous of introducing a new form of taxation, he should table the matter before the state assembly and let the members legislate on it. Aside that a matter which affects a large proportion of the society such as this should be thoroughly deliberated on; he ought to have consulted widely before taking a position on it.

As it is at the moment, what he is embarking on is against the law and anyone who defaults hasn’t done anything wrong. That said, one would expect leaders to be thinking of progressive ideas that would improve the lives of their people, so why would the Imo governor reintroduce a retrogressive law such as the poll tax, also known as head tax and levy it on every liable individual? Poll tax was once a major source of revenue for state and local governments. Though the civilian regimes of the Second Republic largely abolished it, the Buhari military regime reintroduced it and forcibly collected it in 1983-5. However, the Babangida regime abolished it in the 1980s and replaced it with Value Added Tax, VAT. VAT is much better because it taxes people who purchase goods or services. It is simpler to collect and also leaves out those who are too poor to participate in buying goods and services.
VAT is now one of the biggest contributors to the Federation Account and Imo State collects its share of it every month, like all other states do. It is therefore immoral to turn around and reimpose poll tax under any guise. Paying the development levy will amount to double taxation, which is not only unnecessary but wicked. Already Imo indigenes just like people in many other states are burdened with several issues coupled with non-payment of salaries in some instances. Why should Okorocha add to that burden?

There is very little to show for what the state government receives from the VAT collected; what then is the justification for further taxation? Governor Rochas Okorocha must be reminded that he took an oath to uphold the constitution and as such should be mindful of the way he runs the state. Imo is not a private entity; it is covered by the provisions of the constitution and cannot be seen to be engaging in activities that are not in line with the law. We condemn the proposed tax in its entirety and urge the governor to use the resources available to him to develop the state in the remaining months left of his administration.

Politics / PHOTOS: Buhari Still Using Cars Jonathan Left In Office by LadyNaija(f): 7:07pm On May 04, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari arrived home on Thursday night from his trip to the United States.

Among the photographs which captured his return, were those showing the cars used by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

A closer look showed that the black Mercedes Benz Maybach is old, the colour is devoid of any sheen and there are scratches at the back bumper. Even the tyres appear to have seen better days.

According to NAN, Buhari has refused to change the fleet he inherited from Jonathan.

In 2016, the president, who had cut his salary by 50 per cent, struck out a move to spend N400 million on new cars for him.

The money was to be used to buy five new armoured Mercedes Benz S-600 (V222) cars.

Quoting sources, the agency said Buhari believes the cars passed on to him, can still last another 10 years, thus helping the nation conserve scarce funds.

Politics / Melaye Saga: Prosecution Cannot Come At The Expense Of Death-dogara Tells Police by LadyNaija(f): 5:33pm On May 03, 2018
The Nigerian Police Force has been asked by the speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, to ensure the safety of embattled Senator Dino Melaye, The Cable reports. After attempting to flee from Police custody following allegations that he had been involved in gun running, Melaye had landed in hospital and was subsequently charged to court.

Notes that following his arraignment at a Kogi court on Thursday, May 3, the senator would spend 39 days in custody. The lower legislative chamber, at its plenary on Thursday, was urged to intervene in the matter by a lawmaker from Kogi, Hon Sunday Karimi.

He stated: “Melaye is being prosecuted because of this belief; and as members of the National Assembly, we cannot continue to keep quiet. There is need for us to act and prevail on the IG on the issue.” The speaker, however, stated that the green chamber could not deliberate on the issue because it is a “motion of personal explanation'’ and is being deliberated upon in the Senate. Dogara however, frowned on the decision of the police to arraign Melaye in court while on a stretcher. He said: “All I can say is that nothing must happen to the senator.

If anybody in this country has committed an offence, the law is there for the person to be prosecuted or arraigned within the ambit of the law. “So my admonition to the security agencies is to do everything possible to ensure that his life is secure first before prosecution. Prosecution cannot come at the expense of death. “And that is very important, because if anything happens to him, squarely the responsibility will lie on the security agents. And that is without mincing words.”

The speaker said he has not seen a country where someone will be arraigned on a stretcher “when he is not even in the right frame of mind to even take a plea”. He added: “So of what use is it taking someone to court when he cannot plead guilty or not guilty? What is more important is health first, before he is even tried.”

Politics / When The Bully Met The Headmaster At The White House, Ffk React To Buhari Visit by LadyNaija(f): 9:57am On May 01, 2018
"Nigerian herdsmen don't carry AK 47's. They only use sticks"- President Buhari to President Donald Trump, The White House, 30th April 2018.

"We've had serious problems with Christians who have been murdered, killed in Nigeria. We're going to work on that problem and work on that problem very, very hard, because we can't allow that to happen."- President Donald Trump to President Muhammadu Buhari, The White House, 30th April 2018.

Despite all the smiles, banter, pretensions, diplomatic niceties, doublespeak and pleasing words these two assertions from the bully and the big man respectively remain the most relevant in yesterdays meeting between President Buhari and President Trump at the White House.

The fact that Buhari, like a little schoolboy standing before an intimidating headmaster, had to tell a pernicious lie about the weaponry of the Fulani herdsmen and attempt to absolve them of any blame for the horrendous genocide that is being perpetrated against Christians in our nation in order to escape being spanked speaks volumes.

And the fact that Trump, not fooled by the lie and like a wise old headmaster, had to issue a stern warning to the schoolyard bully about the killing of Christians says even more.

That, to me, was the meat of the meeting. All the rest that was said was nothing but diplomatic doublespeak, fake smiles and dross.

Yet more needs to be said. Permit me to add the following.

The truth is that the progressive forces, the official opposition and leaders of the resistance in Nigeria failed to put out the correct narrative about Buhari to the international community and international media over the last 3 years.

Consequently Buhari escaped thorough international scrutiny. Apart from that Trump failed us. He chose economic gain and the juicy prospect of a massive Nigerian market for American goods, products and commodities over human rights and decency.

Yet who can blame him for that given his "America first" mantra and the fact that the Nigerian people themselves appear to be very comfortable with their hazardous plight and murderous leader and do not appear ready to resist his corruption, tyranny, evil, ethnic cleansing, mass murder and genocide.

The good news is that Trump may be the biblical Cyrus (and I really do believe that he is) but he is not God. We never looked to him. We look to God. And God will deliver us despite our inherent weaknesses, accursed fears, petty divisions and monumental cowardice.

Finally hear this. If the opposition does not roll out its best guns, get its act togther, unite, stop playing childish games, stop the petty bickering and present one credible and acceptable candidate in 2019, Buhari will be back for another four years. The choice is ours.

Permit me to end this contribution with a final word about the meeting between the bully and the headmaster at the White House.

My younger brother, Babatunde Gbadamosi, wrote

"Buhari went and got NOTHING. We must now buy two helicopters and agricultural produce from them. This is beyond incompetent".

Tunde, as always, is absolutely right.

Politics / FFK Reacts To US Report On Continuation Of "Grave Violations Of Human Rights" by LadyNaija(f): 8:38am On Apr 24, 2018
Fomer minister of aviation took to facebook to react on the recent report by US government over the continuation of "grave violations of human rights" in Nigeria.

Post read;

Last friday the United States Government released a damning human rights report on Nigeria, saying "grave violations of human rights" continued to increase in 2017 while officials who perpetrated them were never prosecuted by the Federal Government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
It also said, inter alia, that Nigeria is suftering from "ethnic, religious and regional violence".

This is the bitter truth and the report is a welcome development.

Ethnic cleansing, genocide, mass murder, state-sponsored terror, unprecedented corruption, monumental incompetence, the persecution of opposition figures and their families, the violation of court orders, the intimidation of the National Assembly, the Judiciary and the Fourth Estate of the realm which is the media, the targetting and cold-blooded murder of Christians, Igbo (IPOB) youths and Shiite Muslims, the gradual and incremental Islamisation of the nation, the humiliation of the Church and Christian clerics, the covert support for and encouragement of murderous Islamist and jihadist terror groups like the Fulani herdsmen and Boko Haram and so on and so forth are now the cornerstone and hallmark of President Buhari's govermmemt.

I sincerely hope that these issues will form part of the deliberations and discussions that will take place in the meeting betwen President Donald Trump and President Buhari in Washington on 30th April.

They should also discuss the shameful way in which the President Barack Obama's administration interfered in Nigeria's 2015 presidential election and assisted Buhari to come to power and the $500 million that the Buhari administration contributed, through various fronts and companies like the Chagoury brothers, to Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign.

Politics / Nigerian Youths Not Lazy, They Must Vote Against Buhari In 2019 – Fayose React by LadyNaija(f): 7:22pm On Apr 19, 2018
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has called on youths in Nigeria to show President Muhammadu Buhari that they were not lazy and uneducated by voting against him in 2019, saying; “it is painful that the President could describe youths in Nigeria that are daily struggling to make a living under a harsh economy as lazy people.”

Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor said; “Contrary to the morale-killing comment of the President, Nigerian youths are hardworking, intelligent and enterprising. Their future was mortgaged by past leaders like President Buhari, who had everything at their beck and call as youths. I imagine the youths of today having half of the opportunities available in the 50s and 60s.”

He said; “At 19, President Buhari left Secondary School to join the Army. At age 21 (two years in the army), he was commissioned a second lieutenant and appointed Platoon Commander of the Second Infantry Battalion in Abeokuta, Nigeria. Within his 24 years in the Army, the President was Governor of North Eastern State, Minister of Petroleum, Chairman of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Head of State. Where can our youths get such opportunity today?

“Under his watch as Minister of Petroleum, N2.8 billion went missing from the accounts of the NNPC in Midlands Bank in the United Kingdom. That N2.8 billion as at that time is like $2.8 billion (over N1 trillion) now and here is he insulting the youths whose existence his likes mortgaged.”

While telling the President to stop de-marketing Nigeria and its people in foreign lands, Governor Fayose reminded Nigerians how he (Buhari) said in an interview with UK Telegraph in February 2016 that some Nigerians in the United Kingdom were disposed to criminality and should not be granted asylum there.

The governor, who insisted that the negative foundation the likes of President Buhari laid for Nigeria has made life impossible for the youths, asked; “As Military Governor of the North Eastern State, what difference did President Buhari make in the lives of youths in the North?”

He described Buhari as an analogue President, saying; “There is no connection between him and the youths because I doubt if he can even use common android phone. One can’t really blame the President; he does not understand what is obtainable in the country anymore. That’s the reason he was still seeing West Germany and Deutschmark in 2015.”

Urging the youths to use their votes to send President Buhari out of office in 2019, Governor Fayose said; “I did say before now that majority of the youths that voted for President Buhari in 2015 never knew who they were voting for because they did not experience him (Buhari) as a Military ruler. Most of them were those that were born in the 80s and they did not witness Buhari’s clueless and draconian government.

“Now that our youths have seen President Buhari and he has top his cluelessness up by going to London to insult them by calling them lazy and uneducated people, they should be prepared to vote against him next year and installed a President that will value and respect them.”

Politics / Buhari’s Criticism Not Targeted At All Nigerian Youth – Presidency by LadyNaija(f): 5:41pm On Apr 19, 2018
The Presidency has spoken out on the controversy over remarks by President Muhammadu Buhari at a forum in London on Wednesday in which he criticised the attitude of some Nigerian youth.

The remarks have drawn reactions from a cross section of Nigerians some of whom expressed disappointment or outrage.

Reacting to the controversy through a statement by Mr Buhari’s spokesperson, Femi Adesina, the presidency insisted the remarks had been twisted by “manipulators” and “mischief makers”.

Below is the statement by Mr Adesina:

PRESIDENT BUHARI COULDN’T HAVE DERIDED ALL NIGERIAN YOUTHS

At the Commonwealth Business Forum in London on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari gave a keynote address on Making Business Easier Between Commonwealth Countries. The presentation was followed by a discussion, and question and answer session.

Responding to a question, President Buhari had cause to talk about some Nigerian youths, and he said: ” We have a very young population; our population is estimated conservatively to be 180 million. More than 60 per cent of the population is below the age of 30. A lot of them have not been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria has been an oil producing country, therefore they should sit and do nothing and get housing, healthcare and education free.”

Typical of their stock in trade, manipulators and twisters of statements of Mr President, who lie in wait to make mischief, interpreted the comment to mean that President Buhari had taken all Nigerian youths to the cleaners. But elementary English recognizes a wide gulf between “a lot of” and the word “all.” How can “a lot of them,” suddenly transmogrify to mean “all of them?” Mischievous and unconscionable!

There is no way President Buhari, father of the Nigerian nation in every sense of the word, who equally has biological children of his own in the youths age bracket, pass a vote of no confidence on all youths. It can only exist in the imagination of those who play what the President has described as “irresponsible politics” with everything.

President Buhari has always applauded and celebrated Nigerian youths who excel in different areas of endeavour, from sports, to academia, and other realms. And he will continue to do so, because he values the youths, and knows that they are the fulcrum on which the future of the country rests.

Indeed, every country has its share of idle population, and it is the bounden duty of government at all levels, to create an enabling environment for them to actualize their potentials. That is what President Buhari is committed to doing.

The focal areas of the administration; securing the country, reviving the economy, and fighting corruption, are actually intended to give youths a future and a hope. This much was emphasized in an April 5, 2018 comment by President Buhari, while receiving Letter of Credence from the Head of Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria, when he said: ” Our insistence on probity is to encourage people to be accountable, and accept honesty as a lifestyle so as to secure the future of our youths.’’ The President also said more than 60 percent of Nigerians fall into the age category of youths and deserve to inherit a stable and prosperous country that they can be proud of, adding that the government will work assiduously to prevent waste and the depletion of resources by corrupt Nigerians.

It is futile for mischief makers to lie in wait, and take a minor part of the words of the President, and turn it into negative commentary, peradventure they could diminish the profile of the President. Nigerians across all walks of life know who is serving them faithfully and truly, and they will always reciprocate such fidelity as occasions demand.

Femi Adesina

Special Adviser to the President

Politics / Buhari Blasts Nigerian Youths, Says They Sit, Do Nothing by LadyNaija(f): 7:57pm On Apr 18, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari says many Nigerian youths just want to sit down and do nothing, banking on the notion that Nigerian is an oil-rich nation.

Speaking at the Commonwealth Business Forum in Westminster on Wednesday, the President said a lot of Nigerian youths have not been to school and they want everything free.

“About the economy, we have a very young population, our population is estimated conservatively to be 180 million. This is a very conservative one,” Buhari said.

“More than 60 percent of the population is below 30, a lot of them haven’t been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria is an oil producing country, therefore, they should sit and do nothing, and get housing, healthcare, education free.”

The President said he had done well on the three cardinal points of his campaign, including economy and security.
“Recently, my Minister for Information was constrained to answer a question on people accusing this administration of doing nothing, he said ‘Let Nigerians be reminded what position we were before May 2015, what condition we are now, and what we have achieved between then and now and I think people were impressed with the answer.

“For security, we have done quite well. Economy, we are doing very well, especially with agriculture; we are providing soft loans, and guarantee is that you have to belong to a certain locality and you have got land, you don’t have to go to the bank and need a physical collateral. I think a lot is being done.”

Buhari is expected to meet with business leaders and other Heads of State as the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting progresses through the week.

Naijanewspaper gathered that the man behind the early morning incident at the Nigerian Senate where the mace of the Red Chamber was stolen in a daring attack by hoodlums, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has been arrested by authorities.

Omo-Agege, an APC senator representing Delta West, had earlier been suspended by the Senate on Thursday, April 12, for 90 legislative days, following his opposition to an election re-ordering matter before the senate and a fractious court case he had instituted.

The other men with Omo-Agege who stormed the Senate have not been apprehended, according to our sources.

Politics / Senate Demands Return Of Mace In 24 Hours After Thugs Invade National Assembly by LadyNaija(f): 1:19pm On Apr 18, 2018
National Assembly has ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, to ensure the return of the Senate's mace within twenty-four hours.

The protesters which on Wednesday, April 18, stormed the Senate chamber and stole the mace. The alleged thugs were supporters of a suspended senator, Ovie Omo-Agege. The thugs left the National Assembly with the mace in a black SUV. The mace is the symbol of authority in the parliament.

A security personnel at the entrance of the National Assembly, said he was told by the protesters they were officers with the senator. “We tired to stop them but they told us they were with him (Omo-Agege),” he said. The Senate spokesman, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, in a statement issued after the incident, said that the Senate resumed plenary about 15 minutes after coming out of an executive (closed door) session where the earlier incident of forceful removal of the mace was deliberated upon.

He said: "The Senate has resumed plenary about 15 minutes ago after coming out of an executive (closed door) session where the earlier incident of forceful removal of the mace was deliberated upon. "The session is holding with the mace, the official symbol of authority firmly in place, and deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, presiding.

"The Senate also decided that it will get to the roots of this sad assault on democracy and an obvious act of treason which the seizure of the mace by some armed hoodlums represents. "The Senate has mandated the Inspector General of Police, Idris Kpotum Ibrahim and Director General of the State Security Services (SSS), Mallam Lawan Daura, to retrieve the mace stolen by the hoodlums within 24 hours. "At the moment, some House of Representatives members led by deputy Speaker, Yusuf Lasun, are in the Senate chambers in solidarity visits. The session is presently live on NTA Channel 10.

"We are determined to conclude all matters slated on the Order Paper for today, even if it means us sitting until 6pm."

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state, has said that big names in the state have never supported his political aspirations, adding that he won the 2011 and 2015 governorship elections without their assistance, The Sun reports. Okorocha said this over the weekend when leaders of Ideato South local government area paid him a courtesy call at the Government House Owerri to assure him of their support in the 2019 general election.

The governor also said that he contested and won the governorship in 2011 and 2015 not on the basis of zoning or support of godfathers but on the premise of what people of the state believed he could do with the position.

He insisted that he has no regrets for endorsing his chief of staff, Chief Uche Nwosu, as his successor. Okorocha said: “In 2011, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Chief Arthur Nzeribe, Dr. Mrs. Kema Chikwe, Chief Hope Uzodinma, Chief Achike Udenwa, Emeka Ihedioha, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume were either in PDP or ACN. None of them was in APGA, but I confronted them and God gave us victory over them and we defeated an incumbent.

Politics / FULL TEXT: President Buhari’s Re-election Chances Are As Tall As El-rufai ~ Reno by LadyNaija(f): 7:36am On Apr 14, 2018
It is no longer news that President Buhari has declared his interest to seek a second term in office, much to the secret chagrin of his side kick, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, who, though he feigns delight at the President’s decision, is secretly disappointed. His over ambition is very well known in power circles and he was hoping that the President would stand down and instead pick him as his proxy.

But that is not my focus for this piece. My focus is the reason the President gave for wanting to be re-elected President.

A statement released by the Presidency, “the President said he was responding to the clamour by Nigerians to re-contest in 2019.”

Notice the language. The President is not running because he has a good record of achievement (he does not). He is not running because he has plans to implement (again, he does not). He is also not running because he has unfinished projects to complete.

President Buhari instead is running because of the “clamour by Nigerians”. But who are these Nigerians?

The mistake people in the South of Nigeria make is to believe that President Buhari is still popular in his Northwest base. That is a fallacious assumption and I can prove it.

On February 16, 2018, after gunmen butchered his citizens like chicken in Zurmi, Governor Abdulaziz Yari said;

“I feel let down facing the people of this state whenever I remember ‪the promise‬ I made to them that when they elect President Muhammadu Buhari into power, these killings will end. But unfortunately, things are now getting worse.”

Those sentiments represent the feelings of the ordinary people of the Northwest with regard to President Buhari.

Obviously, from the comments of the Governors of Benue and Taraba states as well as the recent earth shattering statement by TY Danjuma, even the most pollyannaish supporter of President Buhari knows he has lost the North Central and huge swathes of the Northeast.

Contrary to pedestrian Southern opinions about Northern Nigerians, they are not just masses of sheeples who will support any Northerner no matter his performance. They are not masochists. They have compared their present lot to what it used to be under Jonathan and they have found Buhari wanting.

At the risk of repeating a very popular meme, sai Buhari! has turned to chai Buhari in the North!

In every sphere of the human development index, the Buhari administration has fared worse, much worse than the Jonathan government.

In every measurable index of government performance, the Buhari regime has paled when compared to the Jonathan administration.

On May 29, 2015, when President Buhari took over from former President Jonathan, the Nigerian economy was buoyant and had just been projected as the third fastest growing economy in the world after China and Qatar. Inflation was at a single digit rate of 8.7%. We had had a consistent year over year annual GDP growth rate of over 6% and the Naira had been stable for four years at ₦150 to $1 and in the fifth year (2015) had moved slightly to ₦199 to $1. Fuel was ₦87 per liter and our food import bill had dramatically reduced.

However, after three years of Buhari in the saddle, Nigeria has had a recession, her first in 25 years. We were not even featured in the top 15 fastest growing economies in Africa talk less of the world. Inflation moved to double digits. The value of Naira tanked to the extent that Bloomberg listed it as the worst performing currency in the world in 2016 and one of the worst performing currencies of 2017. The price of petrol was increased from ₦87 per liter to ₦145 per liter under the guise that fuel subsidy had been stopped, only to find out that the government had continued paying the subsidy but had hidden it by disingenuously renaming it under recovery!

In the area of security, Nigeria which on May 29, 2015 was the fourth most terrorized nation in the world according to the Global Terrorism Index had by 2018 become the third most terrorized nation in the world according to the same index. Death by herdsmen had increased in occurrence and Boko Haram, which President Buhari had boasted was ‘technically defeated’ was managing to still storm military formations and kidnap school girls.

But it is in the area of anti corruption that the Buhari administration had proven to be a huge disappointment. He had been sold to Nigerians by Momoh and his ilk as a man of integrity who was incorruptible. Well, the facts don’t lie. According to Transparency International, Nigeria is now more corrupt under Buhari than ever before.

Whereas we were at 136 in Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index when Buhari assumed power in 2015, according to TI, Nigeria has retrogressed so badly in the anti corruption war, that we are now moved 12 places backward to 148.

So with these facts in mind, it is not surprising that Buhari is refusing to run on his record.

Recently, some of the President’s supporters have found it difficult to sustain the comparison of their principal’s performance with that of former President Jonathan, so they have shifted base and now say that President Buhari’s three years in office as a civilian President has yielded more benefits to Nigeria than the eight years of former President Obasanjo.

Let us interrogate that assertion factually. In Obasanjo's eight years in office as President of Nigeria, he paid off Nigeria's entire foreign debt of $30 billion. But in three years, Buhari has borrowed more money than all the governments in the last 16 years combined.

Under Obasanjo, Nigeria moved from a poor nation to a middle income nation. Under Buhari, Nigeria had her first recession in 25 years.

So what rationale can anyone have for making the preposterous claim that Buhari has outperformed Obasanjo?

Even Buhari himself knows such claims can not stand before Nigerians. I mean, look at what happened when he declared his second term ambition.

President Buhari declared his intention to contest the Presidency for a second term and the Nigerian stock market crashed. Investors are taking their money and leaving Nigeria.

And would you blame them? Even Buhari himself left Nigeria after declaring. He knew what his declaration had done to Nigeria. No one wants to hang around when the air is polluted. And what Buhari did on the day he declared is to pollute Nigeria!

Nigeria needs a breath of fresh air in 2019. We do not need someone who pollutes the economic, political and social air over Nigeria and then runs to his United Kingdom base to leave us to breath the air he polluted!

I am a spiritually inclined man, and I know that there are significance beyond the natural to names, dates and figures.

It is a good thing that it was Nasir El-Rufai who first announced President Muhammadu Buhari’s second term because the President’s chances of being re-elected are as tall as El-Rufai.

In fact, it is more than good. It is almost prophetic that the President chose to announce his second term through El-Rufai. Rearrange the name El-Rufai and you find that the same letters that make up the word failure, make up the name El-Rufai.

Just like Lai Mohammed’s destiny is to lie for Buhari, so El-Rufai’s destiny is to prophesy Buhari's failure! A man whose supporters cannot declare one thing he has initiated and completed has declared us all fools by this second term declaration.

Right now, the man who declared his second term ambition is in the United Kingdom. He went there a full 10 days before the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. We are not fools. We know why he went there so early. No one declares for a second term and absconds like he has done. No one.

How long will we keep having leaders who only use Nigerian medical facilities for the veterinary treatment of their dogs and other domestic and farm animals but only use foreign hospitals for themselves and their loved ones at public expense? Is this the change we were promised?

This is a question we will answer next year, and I have this warm fuzzy feeling that President Buhari may not like Nigeria’s answer to that question.

Politics / Budget: Saraki Issues 24-hour Ultimatum For Committees To Submit Report by LadyNaija(f): 3:47pm On Apr 13, 2018
Senate President Bukola Saraki has given a 24-hour ultimatum to 20 committees of the Upper Chamber to submit their reports to the Appropriation Committee.

The directive by the Senate President to the committees was part of efforts to ensure the speedy passage of the 2018 budget.

Senator Saraki, who gave the ultimatum at Thursday’s legislative proceedings at the Upper House of the National Assembly in Abuja, maintained that the committees cannot hold the Senate back on the issues of budget.

Those affected include committees on Defence, Army, Air Force, Navy, Industry, Federal Capital Territory, States and Local Government as well as Culture and Tourism.

Others are committees on Petroleum (Downstream), Petroleum (Upstream), Niger Delta, Sustainable Development Goals, Primary Health and Communicable Diseases, Health, and Power.

Since President Muhammadu Buhari presented the 2018 Budget of N8.612trillion on November 7, 2017, the consideration of the proposal by both chambers of the National Assembly has been at the committee level since December 2017.

However, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, had revealed plans by the National Assembly to pass the 2018 budget on Tuesday, April 24.

Speaker Dogara, who disclose this to lawmakers at the Lower Chamber on March 21, also informed them that the budget would be laid before both chambers on Thursday, April 19.

According to him, the date for the passage of the budget was fixed by the Red and Green chambers.

Politics / Shehu Sani Alleges Plot To Frame Him For Murder by LadyNaija(f): 6:08pm On Apr 12, 2018
Shehu Sani, the senator representing Kaduna central in the national assembly, says there is a plan to frame him for murder by his political opponents in the state.

TheCable has seen a copy of a letter addressed to him by Kaduna commissioner of police inviting him for questioning over “criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide”.

The case was transferred to the police by one division of the Nigerian army in Kaduna.

Also sent to the police by the army is an audio CD in which Shehu’s name was mentioned by the principal suspect, Austin Iwar, the police commissioner, said.

He was asked to report to the office of the commissioner of police in Kaduna on April 30, 2018 at 10am.

The letter, with ref. no. CR: 2000/KDS/VOL 5H/72, was routed through the clerk of the national assembly, while the senate president was also copied.

When contacted by TheCable, Sani pointed accusing fingers at the Kaduna government with which he has been having a running battle.

“They want to frame me the same way they frame Senator Dino Melaye in Kogi on allegation of arming thugs,” he said.

Sani said he had not seen the letter.

Samuel Aruwan, spokesman of Nasir, el-Rufai, governor of the state, was not available for comment as he neither answered his calls nor replied the text message sent.

Mukhtar Aliyu, spokesman of the Kaduna state police command, did not also respond to calls and text message.

Crime / Scores Killed In Fresh Attack On Zamfara Villages by LadyNaija(f): 5:59pm On Apr 12, 2018
Bandits have on Wednesday attacked two villages in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara, killing some people.

The bandits attacked a mining site at Kuru-kuru village and also ambushed some people from the neighbouring Jarkuka village as they mobilised to bring help to Kuru-kuru.

A witness, Sadi Musa, said scores of people were killed at the mining site on Wednesday evening which forced the miners to flee for safety.

Mr Musa said when residents from the nearby Jarkuka came later to join the Kuru-kuru survivors in burying the dead, the gunmen attacked again, and killed more people.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Mohammed Shehu said, “we are aware of the attack but I cannot give you details now until my commissioner is fully briefed’’.

The bandits had attacked Bawan Daji village in the same Anka Local Government Area two weeks ago and killed over 30 people.

They returned the following day and killed mourners at a grave yard.

This led to the deployment of Air Force and Army personnel to the area to contain the situation.

The soldiers had since swung into action and killed several bandits.

Jobs/Vacancies / Why IT Is Highest Paying Job Across The World by LadyNaija(f): 5:37pm On Apr 12, 2018
We use technology more than ever these days to stay connected to our friends and family, get up-to-date on the latest and greatest happenings in our world and sometimes just to pass the time. With all the computers, tablets, smartphones and other high-tech devices our society is dependent on, we need the skills of professionals in technology jobs to make our obsession with tech possible. The Labor Department predicts that tech jobs will grow faster than the average for all jobs at a rate of 13 percent this decade, but it's not just hiring demand that makes this industry one to watch.

Best Technology Jobs of 2018 are also high-paying jobs that boast low unemployment rates. Check out what makes these gigs so great

“Information Technology” is a pretty broad term—it covers a whole range of digital career paths that diverge into fascinating and lucrative specializations. If you’re looking to join the ranks of IT experts, it might seem a bit overwhelming to try to decipher exactly what these job titles all mean—especially if you’re just starting out.

To save you a bit of work, we’ve collected some of the most common job titles you’ll come across during your research, and summarized what each job description typically looks like and what skills are needed.

Here are six different types of jobs in information technology:

1. Technical Support

Tech support is generally what most non-IT folk think of when they imagine an information technology department. These types of IT experts can be known by a variety of titles—“help desk technicians,” “operations analysts,” or “problem managers”—but at the end of the day, their main job is to provide expert troubleshooting advice to clients. Technical support typically handles hardware and software issues at the user level, helping out the less tech-savvy with their computer problems—making communication skills, problem solving, and well-rounded tech knowledge an asset.

2. Programmers

Computer programmers are the brains behind software functions—they write and test the code that makes up software programs. This might range from simple computer games or word processors all the way up to complicated operating systems and database management systems. The type of skills you need typically depends on what specific area you’re programming in—but attention to detail, logical thinking, and teamwork are all assets to get this important job done right.

3. Web Developers

Web developers often have the most visible jobs. They’re the ones who are responsible for building websites and the infrastructures behind them—making a careful balance of creativity and technical prowess a must for those looking to join this area of information technology. Web developers may also be known as “web producers,” “multimedia architects,” and “internet engineers”, making their titles as diverse as their work portfolios.

4. Computer Systems Analyst

Computer systems analysts are the multitaskers of information technology; they have to understand computer hardware, software, and networks—and how they all come to work together. It’s a large part of their job to make recommendations to their company for which systems are the best to use, and to tailor them to best suit their organization’s needs—including costs. This job requires a multitude of different skills, including the ability to analyse information quickly and effectively, excellent communication, and the ability to persuade when necessary.

5. IT Security

IT security is one of the biggest up-and-coming areas of tech in the market today—they’re in charge of keeping organizations safe from malicious digital attacks. This includes implementing and running security software, scanning for abnormalities, upgrading systems, and keeping their company informed of the risks involved in daily activities. This job requires a lot of problem solving, crisis management, and effective communication between team members and higher-ups.
