PoliticsAPC Suffers Setback In Imo State As Court Stops Party, inec From Holding Congress by LadyNaija(op): 6:27pm On Jul 30, 2018
The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, July 30, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), the All Progressives Congress, (APC) and its national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, not to conduct any congress in Imo until August 21. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the court also ordered the plaintiffs, senators Osita Izunaso and Ben Uwajimogu, Mathew Omegara, Hilary Ekeh and Patrick Uzoukwu to maintain status quo until the said date.

The report said Jutice Babatunde Quadri gave the order following an application by Ahmed Raji (SAN), counsel to the plaintiffs. According to the report, Raji had asked the court to order that all parties be restrained from conducting any primaries in the state, ward or local government until the next adjourned date of the suit.

Raji said that if such an order was not made and the defendants went ahead to conduct the primaries before the next adjourned date, the suit would become an academic exercise. The lawyer told the court that although the defendants were duly served with an order of court stopping them from conducting congresses on July 20, they went ahead to conduct the congresses. He argued that consequently, on July 23, the plaintiffs filed a motion ex parte praying the court to set aside the purported congresses.

He said they further asked the court for an order of injunction restraining APC and its chairman from recognising and swearing in those purportedly elected at the congresses. “The court, however in its wisdom refused to grant this order and ordered us to put them on notice, and we did and duly served all processes on them but there has been no response from them,” he reportedly said. In his response, counsel to the defendants, Oladipo Okpeseyi (SAN), told the court that he had just been briefed about the matter. According to Okpeseyi, “all I could achieve as at today is to file a memorandum of conditional appearance.”

Okpeseyi was said to have alluded to the fact that his clients had been unable to file the proper responses owing to the “political maneuvering” they had recently been faced with including the mass defection from the party. “The executive members of the party have not been around so the best we could do is to file a memorandum of conditional appearance. “We want to crave the indulgence of the court to give us more time within which to file our processes,” he said while praying the court for an adjournment to enable him file the necessary processes. The plaintiff’s counsel, however, disagreed with Okpeseyi’s reason for his inability to file his processes saying such reasons were not permissible in law. He said this unusual and unheard-of oral application of the defendant has no basis and should be rejected because the alleged defection he alluded to happened after they were served with processes.

Justice Quadri in a short ruling, ordered all parties in the suit to maintain status quo and not conduct any primaries until the next adjourned date. “All parties are restrained from conducting any primaries in the state, ward or local government until Aug. 21,” he said while awarding a cost of N10,000 against the defendants for not filing their processes within the stipulated time.

PoliticsResign Or Be Sacked, FG Tells Appointees Loyal To Saraki by LadyNaija(op): 10:03am On Jul 30, 2018
Lai Mohammed, minister of information, has asked Kwara state members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the camp of Senate President Bukola Saraki to either resign federal government appointments or risk being sacked.

The minister said this at a press conference in his Oro, his hometown in Irepodun local government area of Kwara state.

Mohammed said it is unacceptable that members of the party who chose not to desert the party would not benefit from the government, while those who have decamped to other political parties would still hold on to the political appointment of a party they have dumped.

The minister also expressed confidence that the ruling APC would win the gubernatorial election in the state in 2019.

“For six members of house of representatives to decamp from All Progressives Congress in Kwara state, to other political parties,we don’t need a rocket science to know, that all of them are no longer with us,” he said.

“They cannot continue to enjoy the political appointment of a party they have dumped, while those who are our genuine members, still in the party don’t have such benefits.”

Mohammed also disclosed the intention of the federal government to dissolve the APC faction loyal to Saraki.

He said this is as a result of the wide consultations with all the stakeholders in the state.

Mohammed read out some resolutions arrived at during the “consultation”.

“That the Balogun Fulani-led Kwara APC executive committee be immediately dissolved and a fresh congress that will include all Kwara APC members and those who are just coming into the party be held at the various levels to constitute a new executive.

“That all those who got appointments by deceit, hiding under the facade of being party men and women, should immediately resign such appointments or be fired.

“That the recent gale of defections has now put the APC in a position of true majority in the national assembly, as those who remain are the ones who are truly committed to the ideals of our great Party.

“That all members and supporters of our great party restate their unflinching support for President Muhammadu Buhari and assure him of a harvest of votes from Kwara state in the 2019 general election. That all members should remain calm because there is no cause for alarm.”

PoliticsI’ll Write Buhari Soon – Rapc Chairman by LadyNaija(op): 7:24am On Jul 30, 2018
Chairman of the Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC), Buba Galadima, has said the cosy relationship between President Muhammadu Buhari and the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is an afterthought.

He also said he would write to President Buhari soon, declaring that his opposition is predicated on the fact that Buhari is president of Nigeria.
In a tell-all account in the current edition of The Interview magazine, Galadima said he was principally responsible for the alliance between the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), against Buhari’s wishes.
Buhari and Tinubu were the leaders of CPC and ACN, two of the five legacy parties that formed the APC in 2014.

Galadima said: “Buhari was the one against the alliance with Tinubu and I don’t want to say anything. Let Buhari deny what I have said. I was for it and I organised it and wrote a memo that even produced a candidate for the vice presidency, this same Prof Yemi Osinbajo.” Galadima said Buhari may have, in fact, pencilled in another running mate candidate in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) form that was to have been submitted.
In a statement, the Managing Director/Editor-In-Chief of The Interview, Azu Ishiekwene, described the Galadima interview as “the stuff of a broken love affair, with no closet details spared.” Using a slogan, ‘Anybody But Buhari (ABB)’, Galadima said he was planning to write an open letter to Buhari very soon, adding that the president was a “floored candidate” who will lose his deposit if he contests re-election.

“If he was raising cattle in Daura, I wouldn’t bother about him. I’m criticising him because he’s the president of Nigeria and he’s not doing very well,” Galadima said.
He did not spare the Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, whom he described as a latter-day Buharist bent on hijacking the ship.

In the same edition, the Executive President of Women in Africa, Hafsat Abiola-Costello, said she suspects the autopsy conducted on her father, MKO Abiola, was inconclusive, because “not all poisons can be traced”, lending credence to suspicions that the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election may have been poisoned in detention.

Abiola-Costello shared the last conversation she had with her mother, Kudirat, before she was murdered, the impact of her parents’ death on the family, and family’s business, among others. Also in this edition, the wife of the Kaduna State governor, Hajiya Hadiza El-Rufai, talked about her passion and role as wife, mother and first lady, saying, “my husband is too honest.”

PoliticsHow Corruption Ruined Nigeria by LadyNaija(op): 11:23am On Jul 29, 2018
lder statesman and an acquaintance of the late Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, pioneer president of Nigeria, Chief Maximus Ukuta, has proffered solutions on how to make Nigeria great again. The First and Second Republic politician, who was also the National Assistant Secretary of the defunct Nigerian Peoples Party (NPP), as well as a former Commissioner for Industry and Local Government in the old Anambra State, regretted that the country has degenerated so much to the level the founding fathers did not dream about.

Chief Ukuta, who is presently the Chairman of Nsukka Elders’ Forum in this interview with Sunday Sun, however, said that there is still hope to rebuild the country if the necessary steps are taken, one of which being going back to the Republican Constitution of 1963, which he said gave Nigeria peace. He spoke on various national issues and the Nigeria-Biafra civil war.

I wish I could handle it, but things had started getting bad and it didn’t come overnight, it took quite sometime before we got to the present level. This was why I marvelled when some of us challenged President Buhari about his state policy on fighting corruption. I don’t know how corruption could be fought successfully in three years no matter who is trying it. It has eaten deep in our country and it requires all of us, all hands must be on deck; it’s not something you can win just overnight or within three years and we all have to think about our country. We have to think about the welfare of our country, we don’t have to say we are fighting Buhari who is Mr President, we must not destroy our country because we are fighting Buhari because if we destroy our country we have not achieved anything we have rather destroyed everything. So, it’s left for all of us to appreciate the problems we have, to know that the problem lies on all of us to find equitable solution to it. We cannot achieve much by force, it had been tried in many countries and it failed. You succeed by dialogue and by being equitable and applying justice in your policies.

Let me start with appointments. I don’t go out to condemn the president for the lopsided appointments, but I blame his officials, those who are close to him. For you to succeed in government depends on your ability to put up a competent team because as president you are just an individual, you can’t do everything at the same time and remember that some of the issues you are raising now were not even raised in the First Republic. In the First Republic, we had a gentleman, Alhaji Tafawa Balewa as Prime Minister, he was the head of the Federal Government, but nobody quarreled. Some of the manifest issues now were non-existent then because he tried as much as possible to be equitable. I remember that there was one particular incident where they wanted to effect an appointment and Alhaji Sule Katango was the Chairman of the Federal Public Service Commission, Balewa was the Prime Minister and a particular candidate over a health position was to be appointed from the North and Sule Katango said in conscience he will not be able to do it after he had looked at Curriculum Vitae of the individuals nominated by the then Western Nigerian government and the Eastern government.

The refusal infuriated the great Sardauna, Alhaji Sir Ahmadu Bello, and he flew into Lagos, shook others who were waiting at the receiving party at the airport and refused to shake Katango, and called him ‘Sariki Inbukuru’ and it was alleged that later in the meeting that night in the house of the Prime Minister, he alleged that Sule Katango wouldn’t be the Chairman of the Commission if the high standard he was now trying to maintain were to apply. But notwithstanding, there was room for favours to the privileged and those that were in charge, but it wasn’t manifest; people were working towards the same goal. So, when it comes to President Buhari’s appointments, I blame strongly those top officers appointed by Buhari. Ordinarily, the bulk stops at his doorsteps, but in trying to condemn those things you should try to share out the blame. Today, every other person is complaining; it does not engender peace and good governance and what have you.

Christianity EtcThe Mystery Of Altars – Part 1 by LadyNaija(op): 10:48am On Jul 29, 2018
For it came to pass when the flame went up toward heaven from the altar, that the angel of the Lord ASCENDED IN THE FLAME OF THE ALTAR (Jud. 13:20).

There are certain places that are most significant in the spirit realm. They act as contact and entrance points, pathways and gateways to the spirit realm. ALTARS and thrones are two such entities.

Abraham raised up an altar unto the Lord in a place called Bethel. “And he (Abraham) removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel…and there he builded an altar unto the Lord, and called upon the name of the Lord,” Gen. 12:8.

He later revisited the particular altar he raised at Bethel, Gen. 13:1,3,4. Two generations later, his grandson Jacob while running away from Esau passed through the exact location and tarried there for the night. As he slept, the heavens tore open and he had a Divine visitation. A pathway had been opened up by Abraham into the spirit realm. Hence, as he slept on that spot, angels of God ascended and descended upon him through the night. When he woke up, Jacob immediately raised up an altar. (Gen. 28:18-19).

What Jacob experienced was not just one angel but a traffic of angels ascending and descending not just on him but on that very spot. Traffic is meant for roadways and pathways. When Abraham raised an altar generations ago, a pathway was opened in the spirit. That place became a gateway. Jacob himself as he awoke declared: “This is none other but the house of God, AND THIS IS THE GATE OF HEAVEN,” (Gen. 28: 17b).

In Genesis 35, we see Jacob going back to that same spot. “So Jacob came to…Bethel…And he built there an altar and called the place Elbethel…” (Gen. 35:6-7).

Note what happened next: “And God appeared unto Jacob again…and blessed him.” (Gen. 35:9). So Bethel was a gateway to Heaven. It was the raising of an altar that made it so. The patriarchs seemed to understand this very well. Hence, they built so many; Abraham raised at least, four. (Gen.12:6 and 7; Gen. 12:8; Gen. 13:18; Gen. 22:9). Isaac, at least one- (Gen. 26:25), Jacob at least two – (Gen. 33:20 and Gen. 35:7). More importantly, whenever and wherever God appeared to them at a spot, they would raise an altar there establishing it as a gateway. You should do likewise.

And the Lord appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: AND THERE BUILDED HE AN ALTAR UNTO THE LORD, WHO APPEARED UNTO HIM. (Gen. 12:7).

When God sent an angel to destroy Jerusalem, David’s eyes saw the angel standing between Heaven and earth. It was at that same spot that David was ordered to set up an altar unto the Lord (1 Chron. 21:16-18). It is also on that very spot that David instructed Solomon to raise the altar of God’s temple. “Then Solomon began to build the house of the Lord at Jerusalem in mount Moriah WHERE THE LORD APPEARED UNTO DAVID HIS FATHER…” (2 Chron.3:1).

In so doing, this altar became established as a major gateway. So much so that when Solomon offered, God also appeared to him (1 Kings 9:1-3). Moreover, the cloud of God’s glory filled the house so that the priests could not stand to minister (l Kings 8:10-11). In another instance, Solomon in a dream was handed so many blessings. Note what Solomon did: “And Solomon awoke; and behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt offerings…” (l Kings 3:15).

PoliticsGang-up By Me, Obasanjo, Danjuma Against Buhari Not True - IBB by LadyNaija(op): 8:10am On Jul 28, 2018
Former military head of state Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB) has denied ganging up against President Muhammadu Buhari's 2019 re-election bid alongside fellow retired generals former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Theophilus Danjuma. Nigerian Tribune reports that Babangida said this on Tuesday, July 24 in a recent interview he granted an online platform called The Crest at his Hilltop Mansion in Minna, the Niger State capital. The newspaper reports that IBB wondered where the idea of a gang up came when asked if he was working against President Buhari with other generals as had been widely reported in the media.

He queried: “Gang up? What gang-up? That is a media creation. It is media perception. It is easier for the media to add things up and conclude. I think what has happened is that after General Danjuma said what he said [about the alleged genocide in his home state of Taraba and the need for his people to defend themselves because the military had failed to protect them], after President Obasanjo released his letter, and perhaps, after my release too, the media simply added things up and came to the conclusion that there is a gang-up. There is no gang-up. It is media perception.”

The retired general also praised the defection of senators from the ruling APC to the opposition PDP, saying it is good for democracy. He said: “I call it political dexterity because there are no better words to describe it. This is political dexterity and I don’t think anybody should have any problems with that. I have nothing against it. I think it is good for democracy. If it is good for democracy, then, it is good for Nigeria.

“If people left the APC to form R-APC [Reformed All Progressives Congress], they must have a solid reason or reasons for doing that. If 12 senators got to a point where they felt their continued stay in APC was not working and decided to leave, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Similarly, if the other two senators felt that their stay in APC was no longer worth their while and decided to join the ADC [African Democratic Congress], they have not committed any crime. “I think the development is good for democracy. Democracy is about choices; it is about the freedom to choose. In the democratic system that we practise, you can always disagree if you feel what you see in the system does not agree with your expectation.”

PoliticsWe Are Not Criminals, Police Cannot Invite Us, Miyetti Allah Replies Gowon by LadyNaija(op): 7:27am On Jul 28, 2018
The National Coordinator of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in Benue State, Alhaji Garus Gololo, has described the call for the interrogation of the leadership of Miyetti Allah by former military Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), over killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen as uncalled for and unbefitting of an elder statesman.

He said the former head of state was only speaking for the people of the Middle Belt, adding that the killings were not limited to the region.
Gowon, had last week in Makurdi, condemned the killings in the Middle Belt, demanding that Miyetti Allah leaders be invited for questioning.

But the Miyetti Allah leader in Benue State said it was wrong for Gowon to have called for their arrest because they had not done anything criminal to warrant being invited by the police for questioning.

“I don’t understand what Gowon meant because it is only criminals that the police can invite. If that is the case, who should be questioned in Zamfara, Borno, Rivers and Lagos where there have also been killings?

“Just yesterday, four people were killed in Zamfara, who should the police invite? To me, it is very unfortunate for a former Head of State to have made such inciting comments.

“What about the people who blocked roads in Jos and killed people; who have questioned them? And what about those people who were burnt to ashes and removed from vehicles in the Middle Belt, who have questioned those that killed them? Our people were burnt in vehicles at Daudu area in Benue State, who is to be questioned?

“As far as I’m concerned, we are cattle breeders, we are peace lovers, we support peace and we will continue to preach peace. Honestly, I’m not happy with his comments and I’m disappointed.

“No Miyetti Allah member would honour any invitation from the police in respect of any killings. Invitation? What for?
“They would call you just because you are leading an organisation and something happened in any state; is that how things are done?

“We are a registered organisation and we don’t have any dealing with the police as far as I’m concerned because we have a very robust and cordial relationship with them. The police cannot invite us because of a request made by someone because we’re friends with the police,” Gololo said.ommand to say whether it will invite leaders of Miyetti Allah in the state for questioning or not were not successful.

The spokesperson for the command, DSP Moses Yamu, did not return calls or reply messages sent to his telephone.

APC senators insist Saraki, Dogara must step down - THE NATION
Fri, 27 Jul 2018

The battle for the control of the National Assembly seems to be getting tougher – outside the two chambers.

Despite the defection of some senators and members of the House of Representatives from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), APC senators are insisting on their simple majority, which they believe will soon be more consolidated.

Besides, they are insisting that Senate President Bukola Saraki and House Speaker Yakubu Dogara must step down when they eventually defect to the PDP – a move they are believed to be planning.

Senators and members of the House of Representatives supporting President Muhammadu Buhari are back to the drawing board to sustain APC’s majority in the two chambers.

They are demanding that Saraki and Dogara must step down if the APC retains the majority in the National Assembly by September 26 when the lawmakers end their annual recess.

We Are Tired of APC, Says Ahmed, Hints of Defection - THISDAY
Fri, 27 Jul 2018

The anger in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) continued to boil Thursday as Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, said members in the state were tired of the party, hinting that the time had come for them to move elsewhere.

The governor spoke at the party’s stakeholders’ forum in Ilorin, capital of the state, and said there was no more hope for redress in the APC ahead of the 2019 general election.

Ahmed’s complaint reechoed in Abuja with the senator representing Kaduna Central, Senator Shehu Sani, saying the internal revolt in the party was motivated by large scale iniquity and injustice that had bedevilled it for so long.

Sani spoke to journalists at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday night after a fire-fighting meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari who gathered APC senators for a fence-mending session.

PoliticsPDP Raises Alarm Over Plots To Impeach Fayose by LadyNaija(op): 12:15pm On Jul 26, 2018
The Peoples Democratic Party has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop its nefarious plot to impeach Ekiti State Governor, Chief Ayo Fayose or attract dire consequences.

PDP says the impeachment plot, which is being arranged in connivance with the Police, is a recipe for crisis in the peaceful state.

The PDP is aware that the plot is a desperate bid by the APC to rush into the Ekiti Government House to remove and tamper with documents and evidence confirming the rigging of the July 14 governorship election, ahead of the sitting of the election tribunal.

Having realized that there is no way their daylight robbery at the poll can stand in the court, the APC is now employing all desperate means to subvert the course of Justice.

This explains why a detachment of the Police can be hurriedly deployed to besiege the Ekiti State Assembly Complex last night without a formal request by the Speaker, the Clerk or the Sergeant-at-Arms, who is the chief security officer of the complex.

The PDP states that any resort to underhand measures to impeach Fayose, without the constitutionally required 2/3 of the members of the House, particularly at this time, when the lawmakers are currently on their annual recess, will surely be resisted by our members.

Accusing the APC of plotting crisis all over the nation and resorting to the use of harassment, intimidation and brute force against the people and our democratic institutions, PDP warns that these dispositions of APC and its Federal Government portend grave danger for our nation.

Now that the political and parliamentary establishment of the Ekiti House of Assembly has loudly declared that they do not require the services of the detachment of policemen, PDP charges the APC to immediately withdraw their armed agents from the premises of the House of Assembly.

Finally, the PDP urges the judiciary to be firm in standing by the truth on the Ekiti election and not be cowed or intimidated by the threats and pressure coming from the APC.

Nigerians know the truth regarding the rigging of the Ekiti guber election by the APC and are now looking up to the judiciary for justice in the matter.

Signed

Drama as 14 APC senators, 37 Reps defect to PDP, ADC - PUNCH
Wed, 25 Jul 2018

A gale of defection on Tuesday hit the National Assembly with 37 members of the House of Representatives and 14 senators leaving the All Progressives Congress.

But President Muhammadu Buhari while reacting to the defection from the APC in the National Assembly said it would not impact negatively on the party.

Buhari said this in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.

Shehu quoted the President as urging members of the APC not to despair over the development which he described as a “seasonal occurrence.”

He then wished the lawmakers who left the party well in their future endeavours.

The statement read, “President Buhari assured members of the APC of his total support and urged party faithful not to despair but to see the defections as a seasonal occurrence that happens on election eve.

“He expressed confidence that no harm or injury will be done to the party and its aspirations by the movements. President Buhari wished all the defected members the best in their future undertakings.”

Buhari also expressed his total commitment to the values of democracy, freedom of choice as well as total willingness to work with all members of the National Assembly, irrespective of their political party, for the benefit of the nation.

He noted that none of the defecting federal lawmakers had any specific grievances against him or his government.

Convulsions in APC - VANGUARD
Wed, 25 Jul 2018

An alleged plot to remove the two presiding officers of the Senate, yesterday, could not stop the defection of 14 senators from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on a day of high drama that was heralded by the police siege to the homes of the two presiding officers.

The defection set a scenario of convulsion that put two different political parties controlling the Presidency and the Senate. The similar defection of 37 members of the APC to the PDP in the House of Representatives was, however, not enough to swing control of the House towards the PDP.

APC Senate Leader, Senator Ahmed Lawan however insisted yesterday that his party still retains the majority in the Senate.

Palace coup in Senate as PDP topples APC - DAILY SUN
Wed, 25 Jul 2018
The high wired intrigues and acrimonious power play between the two dominant political parties took a dramatic turn, yesterday, as 35 lawmakers defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to give the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) majority in the Senate.
At plenary, 12 lawmakers in the fold of the ruling party announced their defection to the PDP while two cross-carpeted to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). With the development, PDP has 56, APC 48, ADC two and APGA one.The gale of defection also spread to the House of Representatives where APC lost 37 members: 32 to the PDP, four to the ADC and one to the United Progressive Party (UPP).

Following the notices of defection read by Speaker Yakubu Dogara at plenary, the APC now has 186 members, PDP 160, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) five; ADC, four while Accord Party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the United Progressive Party (UPP) have one each. The seat of the late former deputy House Leader, Buba Jibril is still vacant, while Orker-Jev is yet to announce his new political party. PDP Takes Over Senate as 14 Senators Defect from APC - THISDAY
Wed, 25 Jul 2018

It was a bad day for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) Tuesday as a gale of defection swept through the National Assembly with 14 of its leading senators defecting to the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The APC also lost weight in the House of Representatives, where 32 of its members crossed carpeted to the side of the PDP.

The ruling party also lost four members to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while one other resign without stating which party he will join.

The political realignment reconfigured the federal legislature as the PDP took control of the Senate with 57 senators to the APC’s 49, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has one senator. Two seats are vacant.

The Senate Majority Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, however, disputed this position Tuesday night, insisting that in spite of the defection, the APC still has 52 senators to PDP’s 50; APGA three; and two vacancies.

President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC attempted to downplay the gale of defections Tuesday, wishing the carpet crossers well in their future endeavours.

“I wish all of our party members who today defected, the very best in their future undertakings,” the president said in a statement by his Senior Media Assistant, Malam Shehu Garba, adding: “The APC has done its best to stop the defections, and I must commend the party leadership for working tirelessly to unite the party and position it for future victory.”

Does Oshiomhole reason or is it the Lara effect that is affecting his judgment? Three days ago he was begging r-APC members not to leave. Two days ago he said he was not too proud to beg intending defectors. Now today he calls them ‘mercenaries’ and says he is happy they left! Which one is it? How can you be happy that they left when you went to their individual houses to beg them? Even yesterday, Buhari met with Kwankwaso to beg him not to go. PoliticsOver 10 Million People On Cue For Registration Into Obasanjo's Adopted Party by LadyNaija(op): 5:36pm On Jul 23, 2018
The adopted party of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, African Democratic Party (ADC) has said its ongoing new membership drive is yielding fruitful results as over 10 million people are on cue for registration into various constituencies of the party. Chief Ralph Nwosu, the national chairman of ADC in an interview with Vanguard in Abuja said that it has successfully registered 1.2 million fee paying members in the last three months.

Chief Nwosu, who rated ADC as fastest growing political party in the country, said recent commissioned independent survey of the perception of the Nigerian public place the party among the five of the major parties currently in Nigeria.

According to the national chairman: “ADC is a vision driven grassroots political party with Role-Modelling Leadership paradigm. “We have recently become a platform of choice due to our abiding principles and values, an adoption of ADC by the President Obasanjo-led Coalition for Nigeria Movement CNM, Arise Nigeria, National Grassroots Initiatives NGI, and other people-oriented movements, and coalition of political parties. “The CNM, NGI, Arise Nigeria and others have a membership of 6.5Million persons. The ADC is not in the ridiculous and bizarre “Harvest-Bazaar” money politics and godfatherism. “We are members financed; every member pays N200 about 60cents for membership renewable every 4years, and monthly dues of 5cents. Within the last 3months, we have registered I.2 million fee paying members, and we have over 10 million persons on cue for registration in their various constituencies.

“As a political party that is mindful of and determined to make meaning and leverage on the diversity of our country, we have removed the dichotomies of North and South from our constitution. “Instead of the usual Deputy Chairman North, and Deputy Chairman South, ADC now has 6 Deputy Chairmen: Deputy Chairman Membership and Mobilization; Deputy Chairman Education, Doctrines, Ethics, and Values; Deputy Chairman Political Action; Deputy Chairman Government, Institution, and Civil Societies; Deputy Chairman Strategy, Innovation, and Change; and Deputy Chairman Inclusion and Mainstreaming.” Nwosu further noted that: “Our guiding Principles are clearly worded so that all members and joiners are clearly spirited. Our drive is good. Nigerians, young and old love the party and the ADC-spirit culture." We recently commissioned an independent survey of the perception of the Nigerian public of five of the major parties currently in Nigeria.

The APC, PDP, ADC, APGA, and SDP. The outcome put us as the number one party that most Nigerians will like to identify with, they say Nigerians want something new, refreshing, meaningful, deep, and sustainable. “From the poll we know that we still have a lot of work to do. We now know that if we remain focused and vision-driven, and continue with the mission as always we shall produce the next President of Nigeria. You will be invited for the inauguration. We thank you for the wonderful work you are doing in Nigeria and worldwide.”

Defection: Your intervention too late, R-APC tells Buhari - PUNCH
Mon, 23 Jul 2018

The Reformed-All Progressives Congress on Sunday said it was too late for President Muhammadu Buhari to start dangling juicy carrots before its members in order to stop their defection from the ruling APC.

The R-APC, which stated this in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kassim Afegbua, took a swipe at the President and the APC.

The APC faction stated that the Buhari government was not a promise keeper because it had not fulfilled what it promised Nigerians during the electioneering in 2014 and 2015.

In the last one week, Buhari and the APC had intensified efforts to prevent the defection of the R-APC members.

2019 polls under threat from National Assembly, presidency rift - THE GUARDIAN
Mon, 23 Jul 2018

The renewed face-off between President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly over who calls the shot on budget matters could jeopardise the conduct of next year’s general elections. Specifically, legislative approval of budget proposals for the conduct of next year’s election by the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) is uncertain.

A member of the Senate Appropriation Committee and Chairman of its Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, Rafiu Ibrahim (APC, Kwara South), queried the president’s motive.

The executive cannot, at this time, ask that money for key capital projects be converted for elections, he said. “That is not planning. Since we held the last poll, the next election time had been fixed. Since we did the last election, we already knew when we must do the next election, as the Electoral Act stipulates. We already knew that a new government would be inaugurated on May 29, 2019.”

APC, PDP in war of words over Saraki, Dogara, others - THE NATION
Mon, 23 Jul 2018

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got yesterday a reply to its threat to boycott next year’s elections.

You are being hunted by your past, All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole told the main opposition party.

The PDP fired back, saying APC was jittery over coalition between PDP and 38 others.

Senate President Bukola Saraki and House Speaker Yakubu Dogara and others are believed to be on their way to the PDP, but the APC is urging them to stay.

Also yesterday, Reformed APC chief Kawu Baraje said the group had decided to leave APC.

Oshiomhole said the PDP was being haunted by its past treatment of electoral contests as a do-or-die affair, adding that the APC will not be intimidated by any threat of the PDP or any other party as it was committed to the sustenance of democracy and the sanctity of one man, one vote.

PDP Meets over Demand for Name Change by Allies - THISDAY
Mon, 23 Jul 2018

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday pushed forward its agenda for retrieval of power from the All Progressives Congress (APC), holding a meeting of its National Caucus last night, preparatory to today’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, to consider a demand by its allies for a change of its name before ongoing realignment of political forces could be concluded.

The APC, however, responded with a flurry of discussions with its aggrieved members, massed in the reformed All Progressives Congress (rAPC). President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the main target of the PDP’s deft political moves, was to lead the series of the discussions yesterday with a meeting last night with Senate President Bukola Saraki and Speaker Yakubu Dogara of the House of Representatives at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

APC National Chairman, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, also reportedly met separately with Saraki and rAPC Chairman, Alhaji Buba Galadima, along with former governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, in Abuja. The outcome of the meetings was not known but was believed to be centred on how to pull the party back from the precipice it appeared headed.

Kidney disease ravages Borno, Yobe, Kano, Jigawa - DAILY TRUST
Mon, 23 Jul 2018

Rising cases of kidney disease in the northeast states of Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, as well as Jigawa and Kano states have resulted in many deaths.
The cause of the renal disease, which affects mostly young people, is being attributed mainly to indiscriminate use of painkillers and hypertension.
A resident of Maiduguri, Jibrin Martins, who spoke to Daily Trust, said he lost eight of his friends to renal failure in recent times.
“The situation is scary. Within the span of 15 months, eight of my friends died. They all died of kidney failure. They are in their early 30s. Their families are devastated,” Jibrin said.
He said the development had generated so much confusion.
A Consultant Nephrologist and Head of Renal Unit at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano, who is also a visiting consultant to Rasheed Shekoni Hospital, Dutse, Professor Aliyu Abdu, spoke on the disease prevalence in Hadejia zone.
He said the complaints from the members of the public about the disease informed their decision to carry out a small study on the case and that the finding turned out to be true.
Prof Abdu said based on their findings a funding was secured from National Institute of Health USA by the Kidney Centre in Bayero University for a larger study in collaboration with Nigerian Institute For Medical Research (NIFMR).

PoliticsOmokri’s Book On Leah Sharibu Blames Dapchi Girls’ Abduction On Sabotage by LadyNaija(op): 8:09am On Jul 23, 2018
Information contained in a new book, ‘Leah Sharibu: The Girl Boko Haram Left Behind,’ suggests the abduction of 110 girls from Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi in Yobe State by Boko Haram, the radical Islamic insurgents, on February 19, 2018, might have been due to sabotage by some members of the military high command.

According to the author of the book, Mr. Reno Omokri, a spokesperson to former President Goodluck Jonathan and THISDAY columnist, circumstances around the kidnap clearly showed that the incidence could not have happened without the connivance of the military, which had the mandate to protect the town.

“It is my belief, for instance, that it is impossible that the Dapchi Girls, including Leah Sharibu, could have been abducted if their town and school was guarded by the officers and men of the Nigerian Army stationed in Dapchi,” Omokri said in the book billed for release shortly and made available to THISDAY at the weekend, adding, “It is also impossible that those soldiers, who strangely withdrew from Dapchi a few hours to the kidnap, would have done so on their own volition without an order from above.”

He added, “The truth becomes clear that whoever ordered the withdrawal of the troops in Dapchi, only hours before Boko Haram invaded the town and abducted Leah and her colleagues, must have been aware of Boko Haram’s plans, especially as we will show that the Nigerian government received an intelligence tip a day before the abduction of the Dapchi girls of Boko Haram’s intentions.”

Although 104 of the Dapchi girls were released on March 21, 2018, Leah Sharibu was held back by Boko Haram for refusing to denounce her Christian faith.

He accused the President Muhammadu Buhari administration of slacking in its duty to rescue Sharibu, quoting a widely known journalist and Boko Haram source, Mr. Ahmad Salkida, who said that there was unwillingness on the part of the administration to secure the school girl’s release from Boko Haram.

“Nothing has ever seemed tricky to me like the case of Leah. I get any kind of updates, as my records have shown, but when it is the case of Leah they (Boko Haram leadership) try to avoid my queries,” he quoted Salkida as saying.

He was of the view that Sharibu was not made an international cause by those who might have been interested in her safety.

In his seven-chapter book, Omokri insisted that it was impossible that the Dapchi girls could not have been abducted if their town and school were guarded by the officers and men of the Nigerian Army stationed in Dapchi.

He wrote that it was also impossible that soldiers, who withdrew from Dapchi a few hours to the kidnap, would have done so on their own volition without an order from above.

He concluded that whoever ordered the withdrawal of the troops in Dapchi, only hours before Boko Haram invaded the town and abducted Leah and her colleagues, must have been aware of Boko Haram’s plans.

Accusing elements of the Nigerian government of collusion with the radical Islam terror group, Boko Haram in the Dapchi incident, Omokri raised some questions about the saga.

He queried, “What is the extent of the collusion between the current Nigerian government of President Buhari and Boko Haram? Who gave the fateful order to the military to withdraw from their stations in Dapchi hours before the girls were abducted? Why was Boko Haram allowed to stroll in and out of Dapchi on March 21, 2018, without any attempt by the Nigerian authorities to stop them? How is Boko Haram able to fly its planes and land them in Nigeria’s territorial airspace without the government knowing and stopping them. From where did Boko Haram get planes? How do they land these planes?

“On Monday, October 18, 2010, former President Goodluck Jonathan commissioned the Total Radar Coverage Nigerian Airspace (TRACON). By this project, Nigeria is fully covered by radar. Thus, how is it possible for Boko Haram to own or operate planes without the knowledge of the Nigerian government?”

Capturing the emotion of Leah’s father, a serving Inspector in the Nigeria Police and her mother a teacher, Omokri criticised Buhari for hailing the rescue of the 13 Thai youths who were trapped in a cave, but failing to do something about Leah who is held captive by Boko Haram for her refusal to denounce her Christian faith.

Omokri asserted that the Dapchi girls’ abduction was a false flag intelligence operation to justify the request by the Buhari-led Nigerian administration to borrow one billion dollars for national security.

According to him, such funds are disbursed as discretionary spending and not accounted for.

He accused the president of seeking the funds for the purpose ensuring his re-election.

PoliticsBuhari Will Lose 2019 Election – Galadima by LadyNaija(op): 6:53am On Jul 10, 2018
In his speech, the National Chairman of the R-APC, Alhaji Buba Galadima, said that the MoU would send shivers down the spine of the ruling party.

He said that since he led a splinter group out of the APC, the R-APC members had been receiving death threat messages and messages of solidarity from across the world.

Galadima said that President Buhari “is destined to lose the 2019 election and lose his deposit.”

The former ally to the President,  who claimed that he knew Buhari so well, said that if the President knew what awaited him, it would have been better for him not to go into electoral contest as a candidate in 2019.

He said, “Let us not forget that the man we will be facing is a military general. We are ready, prepared to take on this fight despite their intimidation and threats.

“I know him but if I were his adviser, I would tell him not to contest.”

He warned that those who signed the alliance might become rich overnight if they chose to betray the cause, alleging that the ruling party had set aside a huge sum of money to bribe them.

He also said that members of the coalition would be harassed and intimidated, warning that Buhari, being a retired general, would not go down without a serious fight.

S-East govs stop movement of cattle - VANGUARD
Mon, 09 Jul 2018
SOUTH East governors met in Enugu yesterday, and resolved to stop movement of cattle in the zone. The governors also requested to meet with security chiefs over fear of possible spillage of herdsmen killings into the South East zone.

This came on a day the Presidency pleaded with Nigerians and the international community to exercise restraint in making inflammatory remarks over farmers/herders clashes, saying President Muhammadu Buhari does not discriminate against any people or religion. Rising from the meeting which held at Government House, Enugu, the governors said they were afraid that the killings in Plateau, Taraba, Zamfara and other parts of the Middle Belt might spill into their domains. Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, David Umahi of Ebonyi State, who read the communique at the end of meeting, said: “South East Governors have noticed increased challenges in the movement of herdsmen from one state and region to another with resultant effect of massive destruction of farmland with attendant clashes with farmers.

R-APC: PDP summons Atiku, Makarfi, others - THE NATION
Mon, 09 Jul 2018

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman Uche Secondus has invited presidential aspirants, governors, senators and other leaders to a meeting today in Abuja. The meeting is coming amid plans by leaders of the Reformed-All Progressives Congress(R-APC) to defect to the PDP.

The presidential aspirants invited are: ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Governor Ahmed Makarfi; ex-Minister of Special Duties Tanimu Kabiru Turaki(SAN); ex-Governors Sule Lamido and Ibrahim Shekarau, as well as others.

The session will discuss terms for accepting R-APC leaders, such as Senate President Bukola Saraki, House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara and others into the party.

Top on the agenda is the report of the ex-Governor Liyel Imoke Contact and Mobilisation Committee, which has been negotiating with R-APC and about 30 “minor” parties.

Ahead of today’s meeting, tension is building up in the PDP over alleged plot by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose to “influence” defection terms in favour of Saraki, Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, who are interested in the presidential ticket.

Farmers-Herders Clashes: Politicians Using Criminals To Carry Out Killings, Presidency Insists - LEADERSHIP
Mon, 09 Jul 2018

The Presidency insisted yesterday that some unscrupulous politicians are the ones using criminals and bandits to perpetuate killings in the country. It appealed to Nigerians and members of the international community to refrain from spreading false stories and inflammatory statements about the recent killings in the country. Senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, who made the presidency’s position known reiterated President Muhammadu Buhari’s remark that there is evidence of involvement of some politicians using criminals to perpetuate the killings. Shehu said the Nigerian government is working closely with state governments and the Security Services, as well as international partners, in order to resolve the issue of killings. In a statement he issued yesterday, the presidential spokesman noted that the clashes between herders and farmers are historical, even as he said the causes of these confrontations are varied and complex. He stated: “Climate change, specifically the drying

PoliticsFFK: Welcome Home Dino, It Is Not Good Enough To Say That You Are Leaving Buhari by LadyNaija(op): 7:39am On Jul 09, 2018
A Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has fully welcome serving senator of Kogi state who recently move back to his former party PDP.

Recall Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi west senatorial district, in a video released via his Instagram page on Friday, July 6, announced and celebrated his imminent return to the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Femi Fani-Kayode wrote on his facebook page:

WELCOME HOME DINO

Yesterday I tweeted the following:

"It is not good enough to say that you are leaving Buhari simply because he came after you. You stood with him when he murdered, detained, insulted, framed up, disgraced, demonised, humiliated and lied about others for 3 years and you cheered him on. You failed to appreciate that those who ride on the back of a tiger always end up in its stomach. Now the tiger is chewing your balls you are wailing. You did not wail when it devoured others. Instead you supported it and enthroned a monster. Kindly ask God and the people to forgive you for your self-induced delusion and folly".

Even though I did not mention his name but was in fact referring to not just him but all those that are about to decamp from the APC to join the PDP, my dear aburo Senator Dino Melaye, responded to me by tweeting as follows:

"My brother FFK and I are both returnee to PDP. He only got healed of political blindness before me. Thank God we both can now see. Once we were blind and now we can see".

When his tweet was brought to my attention I chuckled. I must confess that few have the courage and zeal of Dino and I have always loved him for that.

Not many know that we have been friends for over 20 years and till today I remember vividly the first day that I met him and who introduced us.

I am overjoyed by the notable strides that he has made in politics over the last 15 years and I am pleased about his return to the ranks and fold of the righteous over the last few days.

I am equally pleased that many of his colleagues from the RAPC will soon be joining us and we must welcome them all with open arms.

Politics is a game of numbers and this can only be a good thing. We must all join hands to remove the tyrant and the monster that has held our nation to ransom and that seeks to devour us all.

I am however constrained to say a few things in response to my aburo's jocular tweet in order to set the record straight.

The truth is that unlike him I was never "blind" but I simply let down my guard, closed my eyes for a brief moment and allowed my fleeting anger to becloud my better judgement.

Thankfully I opened those eyes relatively quickly and retraced my steps. I saw the evil and immediately I fled from it.

Within a short period of time such was the power of the stench of the group of people that I had erroneously aligned myself with for a few months in 2013 that I was compelled to open my eyes and flee the scene.

Dino detected the same stench very early on but not only did he choose to hold his nose and stay in that filthy setting but he also opted to assist in putting it in power and enthroning it.

The difference between me and him is that I joined the then opposition party in 2013 and stayed there for only 9 months. I left long before it was recognised as a political party by INEC, long before it was named "APC" and long before Buhari became its presidential candidate.

Unlike Dino I recognised the evil in them and left them long before they came to power in 2015. Unlike Dino I raised the alarm about their genocidal tendencies, their fascistic disposition, their secret desire to field a Muslim/Muslim ticket and their jihadist agenda. Unlike Dino I fought them to a standstill in the 2015 presidential election by boldly speaking for the PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan.

To add to that I have opposed their evil ways and demonic agenda consistently without fear or favour for the last 3 years and my family and I have paid a heavy price for doing so.

For the last 3 years I have been one of the leading voices of the opposition in the country so I have paid my dues. It is time for Dino and co. to pay theirs. I acknowledge that Dino and some of the others have suffered in the last few months and shown immense courage by leaving the APC.

In many ways they are heroes but they still have to do a lot more and they must show some contrition for enthroning Buhari in 2015 and opposing Jonathan. The truth is that they put us in this mess and an apology for that would go a long way.

The biblical prodigal son showed and exhibited some level of contrition and repentance on returning to his fathers house and such a display of such contrition would help in this case.

Unlike Dino I told the world that we must stop the APC at all costs from getting power because from what I had seen during my short time with them they would kill people, lock them up, terrorise the nation and abuse that power if they ever got it.

I was proved right. Dino and co. saw the evil in the APC and instead of following my lead they stayed there, pitched their tent with them, fought for them, spoke for them, campaigned for them, ensured that they won power and openly supported the evil that they subjected Nigerians to for the last 3 years.

In those 3 years many of our people were murdered, demonised, locked up, humiliated, detained, subjected to trumped-up and politically-motivated criminal charges and brutal witchunts, criminalised, misreprsented, threatened, intimidated and demonised. Many were totally destroyed and may never recover.

Unlike Dino and those that supported Buhari, brought him to power and have clapped for him for the last 3 years, I do not have blood on my hands and neither can I be blamed for any of the atrocities that he has committed because I opposed him, stood up to him, resisted him and fought him every day for the last 3 years.

I cannot say the same for my brother Dino and co. who have only just seen the light because they stayed with the evil called Buhari and supported and applauded him for those 3 horrendous years. They turned their back to the light and chose to espouse the darkness.

They fought PDP and President Goodluck Jonathan for that entire period and refused to acknowledge our suffering and sacrifice or condemn Buhari for his evil and homicidal ways, his sectional and divisive politics, his monumental incompetence, his massive corruption and his religious bigotry.

Thankfully today they are saying the things that we said before the 2015 election and what we have been saying consistently for the last 3 years.

I welcome that but they must never compare themselves with someone like me. We were never in the same boat. I chose the hard and difficult path whilst they did not.

I saw the light and fought the evil of Buhari long before he came to power whilst they refused to do so. God gave me the grace, fortitude, courage, wisdom, strength and insight to do so and I have opposed Buhari and his party with all my heart and soul from 2014 up until today. I am very proud of that.

Unlike them for me it was not about political expedience, political pragmatism or about simply winning elections but about principle and ideaological purity.

I could not in good conscience stay in a political party with religious bigots, homicidal maniacs and ethnic supremacists.

I do not believe there can be fellowship between the forces of light and the forces of darkness. I do not believe that there can be any friendship or any union betwen the children of God and the children of Belial.

Let God judge between those of us that stayed with the evil and those of us that opposed it. Whatever the case I congratulate Dino for seeing the light, albeit 3 years late, and for returning to the fold and the land of the living. As they say, it is better late than never!

TravelPlanes For New National Carrier Arrive December by LadyNaija(op): 5:57am On Jul 09, 2018
The Federal Government has said the first batch of five aircraft for take-off of the new national carrier will arrive the country on December 19.
This came as the government received the ‘Outline Business Case Certificate of Compliance’ for the establishment of the proposed national carrier with a pledge to deliver to Nigerians the new airline on December 24, 2018.

Minister of State for Aviation, Mr. Hadi Sirika, who received the certificate from the Director General, Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), Mr. Chidi Izuwah, in Abuja expressed his satisfaction with the Transaction Advisers for carrying out their assignment with utmost diligence and timeliness.
Sirika also announced that the government had opted for the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model for the national airline, saying that that model remained the most viable mode of sourcing funds to kickstart the airline as well as ensuring its effective management.
It was leant that all parties to the proposed national carrier are to invest about $308.8 million, with $8.8 million slated as preliminary cost for the project.
According to Mr Sirika, Nigeria will receive the first set of five airplanes for the airliner on December 19, 2018. He expressed confidence that the five aircraft will start yielding profits three years after the commencement of operations. According to him, from an initial fleet of five aircraft, the national carrier is expected to grow its fleet size to 30 within the first five years of its existence.
“We intend to get a 30 aircraft market in five years. But we will begin with five aircraft on the day of lunch,” he said. “At Farnborough International Public Airshow coming July 18, 2018 in London, we will unveil the name, logo, colour scheme, the structure and the type of airplane about the national carrier,” he added.
Sirika dispelled fears of the national carrier sounding the death knell for existing private commercial airlines, saying “with a population of over 180 million people with so many un-serviced routes, Nigeria offers more than enough space for serious (private) airlines to operate profitably alongside the national carrier.”
The Minister commended the ICRC Director General and his team for ensuring that the national carrier project remained on track through the observation of all legal and regulatory frameworks.
Also speaking at the occasion, Director General of ICRC, Mr Izuwah, said the presentation of the Certificate of Compliance to the national carrier was an official green light to proceed with the procurement process. According to him, the certificate was granted on the condition that the Federal Government is committed to leveraging private sector capital and expertise towards the establishment of the national carrier through the provision of a ‘Viable Gap Funding’ for the airline project.

R-APC National Assembly members plot mass defection July 31 - PUNCH
Sun, 08 Jul 2018

Members of the All Progressives Congress in the Senate and House of Representatives may defect en mass to the Peoples Democratic Party shortly before July 31, SUNDAY PUNCH has gathered.

Investigations on Saturday showed that the Reformed All Progressives Congress split from the main APC, on Wednesday, was the first phase of the plot ahead of the mass defection.

It will be reminiscent of a similar mass defection by the new Peoples Democratic Party to the APC in the run-up to the 2015 polls in 2014.

Findings indicated that in spite of the belittling of the strength of the R-APC by the APC, many lawmakers were aggrieved and would leave the latter.

Rickety infrastructure, huge debt burden threaten power sector - GUARDIAN
Sun, 08 Jul 2018

Except prompt actions are taken, the country’s power sector may soon grind to a halt. No thanks to the over N1t debt owed power generating companies popularly known as GENCOs, gas suppliers and the plunging electricity generation, which dropped from 5, 222.3megawatts (mw) attained earlier this year, to 3, 689.39mw as at Tuesday, July 3, 2018.

In an exclusive interview with The Guardian, the Executive Secretary, Association of Power Generation Companies (APGC) Dr. Joy Ogaji, raised alarm that Nigeria’s power sector is grinding to a halt due to debts.

According to her, GENCOs are owed N1tr, out of which 70 per cent is for gas suppliers, while distribution companies (DISCOs) are owing too in the massive web of debts. Commercial banks are understood to have been told to stop giving loans to power sector players.

Out of the 3, 689.39mw generated by the GENCOs, 3, 632.15mw was sent out to the consumers on the same day.

Tam David-West Shocker: Nigerians suffering, unhappy, economy not doing well - DAILY SUN
Sun, 08 Jul 2018

A die-hard Buharist and former Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Prof Tam David-West, has disagreed with President Muhammadu Buhari over the latter’s support for the establishment of cattle ranches in some designated states in the country, saying that it was not proper for the president to do ranches in non-ranching areas.

He also pointed out that Buhari has allowed suffering to so much make Nigerians to be unhappy, saying that the president needs to do something fast to turn the trend or pay dearly for it at the polls.

David-West also took a swipe at prominent constitutional lawyer, Prof Ben Nwabueze, on his claim that the 1979 Constitution was not made by Nigerians.

So many things have been said about the 1979 Constitution and you were a member of the committee that drafted that constitution. Is it true that the constitution was drafted in secret?

Buhari: Saraki Went Through Tortuous Judicial Process, Vindicated at Last - THISDAY
Sun, 08 Jul 2018

President Muhammadu Buhari Saturday in Abuja reacted to Friday’s acquittal of Senate President Bukola Saraki from allegations of false asset declaration by the Supreme Court, saying Saraki persevered, went through tortuous judicial process and was vindicated in the end.
By this development, the president also observed that the country’s judicial system was working despite the many challenges it faces, warning that no one should be allowed to undermine or break it.

Buhari, in a statement by one of his spokesmen, Malam Garba Shehu, said he had witnessed situations, where people attempted to destroy the judiciary in their desperate bid to escape justice.

According to him, Saraki’s pursuit of his case from the lowest to the apex court should be a precedent for others to emulate, even as he recalled how he went through the same judicial process three times after he lost presidential elections.

He said: “I have seen many instances, where individuals and groups seek the destruction of the judicial institution in the foolish thinking of saving their skin, instead of going through the painstaking process of establishing their innocence.

Split in R-APC as Saraki moves to join presidential race
Sun, 08 Jul 2018

Senate President Bukola Saraki is warming up to join the race for the Presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in August, according to sources in his camp.

Hints about his presidential ambition emerged yesterday; just 24 hours after the Supreme Court cleared him of allegations of impropriety in his declaration of assets form by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).

The news immediately threw the camps of Governor Aminu Tambuwal and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, who are co-drivers of the R-APC with Saraki, into confusion.

Tambuwal and Kwankwaso are also interested in the PDP presidential ticket and sources said it was their primary reason for wanting to return to the party having found out that they could not wrestle the ticket from President Buhari in the APC.

Saraki, who is said to be under pressure from his supporters to vie for the ticket, has been consulting his associates, political strategists, and well-wishers in the last 24 hours.

If he consents to seek the ticket, the move is bound to alter the Reformed-All Progressives Congress(R-APC) permutations ahead of next year’s elections.
