No. Your order/transaction will be executed once market opens. I will advise you wait till market opens before making a buy order because there is no provision for cancelling an order (please confirm this yourself). A stock could be doing well pre-market, but suddenly falls once the market opens which migth be due to investors taking profits.

You are very correct, regretted the two occasions where I made a trade before the market opened, since then no matter how bad or good the pre market looks I wait 5 to 10 mins after market opens to make a decision

General advice is have your own entry plan and exist plan. Market right now is tricky and volatile because of the argument of weather to open up the economy or continue the lockdown and other external issues.

All my stock today ended in red today except one

Apple-- Red

Enphase Energy-- Red

Roku -- Red

Data dog -- Green

Overall was Green, thanks to Data dog with a plus 23 gain.

This is the advantage of having multiple stocks, as they say don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Abeg, what does it really mean when a stock is gaining or losing during the "after hours" period?
Do transactions really go on during such period?
How is it different from the "pre-market" period?

NOVAVAX has been surging after their earning conference this evening in the "after-hours" period, and I don't know if that will reflect on the stock when the market opens again tomorrow.

It's a cycle

We have the after market, pre market and Market

Each starts from where the other one stops at.

Example for your novavax, it ended at 25 dollars, the after market will start from 25 dollars, I see it's currently at 35 dollars, if it ends at the that, the pre market will start at 35 dollars. Let's assume it goes up to 40 dollars, the main stock market will start at 40 dollars

For you, as the Market open at 40 dollars, your gain will jump by 60%. Can go up or come down

Transactions go on during those period but have limited liquidity. The main market is where bulk of money is.

Just note that because a surge in the after market and pre market is no guarantee there will be a surge when the market opens..

If I say I know why, I will be lying to you bro.
Maybe there are encouraging signs in reopening markets but that in itself is mere hope.
It could be the Market Makers doing "a good job" to prevent a total collapse of the share price. If this is the case, today's gain will become a mirage in no distant time.

Another angle we should not forget is that the market has a mind of its own and does not care at times about fundamental analysis.

But on the back of this poor result, nothing in the numbers really warrants the gain unless a purely technical indication gives the green light.

I've been checking online for a plausible reason why the stock went up after hours despite their earnings results. No one could explain.

I read somewhere that some Investors like hope. For example some Investors prefer you tell them you had a bad last quarter but you are confident next quarter will be better than say you had a very good last quarter but due to covid-19, you next quarter might not be good.

For uber , those Investors simply see hope , ( CEO told them things are getting back to normal since April,)

This things don't makes sense but it is what it is.

The NSE has no trend or Patten. It's currently in a four days bullish run o, inside this pandemic yet NSE is getting positive upward trend, no one can explain what the reason is . I don't feel comfortable to buy any Nigeria stocks because it's very volatile right now.

2017 was Nigeria best stock market year Ever, it was so unbelievable. NSE recorded 42% year to year
Dangote returned a whopping 227% profit.
Anyway, things are not the same right now.

Due to covid-19 some companies immediately went under, the airlines industry crashed, oil industry crashed, The tech and retail industry managed to survive till now but all of them are warning the next quarter ( may June July) won't be easy as a result of expected fall in demand

People have lost jobs (30m in US), world economy is creeping towards recession, US GDP contraced by 4.6% . basically, people won't have money,
"Everywhere go dry". Business people won't see customers, if no customers, no sales , no profit

The hope is the this next quarter will see a gradual success against Corona virus and a gradual return of normal life , during this phase , do you expect business to move.?

With this in mind investors won't invest more money untill things get better, companies won't make much money and you the existing investor wont make profit.

For the stock market, unless the economy improve, it won't really go up high, it will just be incremental up and down, nothing big.

For example: Apple yesterday announced to shareholders that they can't tell what their revenue projections will be for next quarter

If things go well like we have a good approved vaccine or drug for covid 19, that could speed things up.

For now, so much uncertainty

Amazon's announcement, plus Trump threatening China and then most recently, Elon Musk stating Tesla stock price is too high thereby leading to a prompt 10% price depreciation.
With all of these happening at the same time, it tells a lot.
As negative as it appears, all I see is opportunity to cherry-pick great stocks when they a through crashing prices by their actions.

Yes , you can invest 10k Naira, just know that the return will be very small. If you make 10%, you will get 1000 naira profit, you just have to be patience to make that 10%.

You will have to download both apps, registered with them and see what they offer and you make your decision on which one you will prefer. I don't use any of them, so I can't tell you their differences.

As a novice, it's generally advisable to buy from the popular big companies that are stable, like apple , Amazon, Google ( Alphabet) etc. When you check the apps you will get more info.

Buying a stock is like buying gold, when the value of gold increase over time, your money will Increase, and vice versa

This just a high level summary, you will need to ask questions and read more on how the stock market operates and how to get the best out of it

Today might just be a RED day, the pre market currently is bad.

Investors don't like been told they won't make money and Also they hate uncertainty.
Despite Apple beating revenue projections for the last quarter, Investors are not happy because apple said they can't tell them what they will make in next quarter.

Amazon said they will spend their last quarter profit of 4bn dollars on fighting covid-19 Amazon is down by 6%. Still a good buy, people are staying home and making orders now.

It's an opportunity to buy some stocks cheap but just know that this coming months, May , June, July won't be a smooth ride.

Be vigilant so you don't lose all your gains. Better to sell with your gains and re buy at a cheaper rate.

That was an equivalent of N36,000 then in December 2019, now N42,000 equivalent.

Can one of our Boss here throw more light on Pre-market eg oas closes at $0.67 yesterday and today at the pre market it is already at $0.97 what are the implications?

Pre market is basically trading before the main market opens, I don't how they pick who is able to participate in pre market but advantage of premarket is that one is able to react faster to any news about a company, negative or positive.

Sometimes but never always, pre market gives indication of the market direction.

The implication as far oas is that when market opens oas Wil be worth 0.97 dollars, if you bought shares, your shares will rise in immediately as makert opens but doesn't mean it will stay that way.

Right now Oas is just about 0.67 dollars, it has significantly dropped , those who will benefit are those who withdrew very early today

If the pre market was below 0.67 , as makert open, your stock price will immediately drop.

If it's for long term meaning you won't think of selling till say December or more then yes but if you are looking for quick plus 10% profit then no.

They are currently 16% off from their highest point pre Corona virus. When the economy gets better after Corona virus, they will recoup that 16% and surge more

With apple there is a sense of security of your stock, even if it goes minus 10% today, it can go bounce back almost in the same week.

Honestly to make the best profit and having a rest of mind with us stock is to buy frontend us stocks like Google, apple, amazon, Facebook, booking, but Tesla just for short term cos its not stable like the others are.

You very correct, I don't plan selling my stock in Apple.
As for Tesla, had to to sell it today so that I can sleep well. at least, i made profit no issues. Tesla is good for traders that can buy and sell quickly.
