Even when integrity is compromised?
Absolutely!

As long as the other side is not being held accountable, why should he limit his options? The only problem is that he is not being professional about it.

Look, when the US went into Iraq, what they met was an unconventional army, and they needed to fight them according to the way the Iraqis came at them, and yes that included fighting inside sacred places like the mosques, it also included killing suspiciously looking innocent victims like women and children.  My point is that if your enemy does not obey the rules, you would be a fool to follow the rules.

No one wins by following the rules. Mark Zuckerberg, George bush of the Bush V. Gore fame a la the miracle of Florida, and Bill gates can explain better

i must say, reading it made me upset, there's brazen talk about redeploying officers simply because of their loyalty and about bribing delegates and offering their family members positions. . .

P.S. i'm sure atiku is doing the same thing but that doesn't make it right

Once again the performance of candidates in the November/December 2010 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is unimpressive.

Only 20.04 (62,295) per cent of the 310,077 candidates that sat for the examination made credits in five subjects including English and Mathematics.

Last year, 31.96 per cent reached the benchmark for admission into tertiary institutions; in 2008, it was 23.54 per cent.

The Council’s Head of the Nigerian National Office (HNO), Dr Iyi Uwadiae, at a briefing in Lagos yesterday described the results in recent years "as not too good".

But he explained that 20.04 per cent made the minimum requirement for admission at one sitting does not mean they are the only ones qualified to get into tertiary institutions as many of the other candidates likely have some credit level passes in relevant subjects from previous examinations they might have taken.

"Between 2008 and 2010 the results have been fluctuating within the same zone, which is not too good. However, that somebody made four credits does not mean he is not qualified to go into the higher institution.

"It is assumed that they must have written other exams and have their results, particularly as this examination is for private candidates. They try to lay emphasis on the results they want. It may not be correct to say they have failed," he said.

The results are coming two weeks early.

Giving a breakdown of the results, he said 51,876 (16.73 per cent) candidates will not see their results until the National Examinations Committee (NEC) of the Council deliberates on the cases of examination malpractices in March next year.

About 309,431 representing 95.21 per cent have their results fully processed; 15,567 (4.79 per cent) others have to wait for some time until the Council rectifies the technical errors they made during registration or in the process of writing the examination.

Speaking on the efforts of the examining body to improve performance, Uwadiae said the council organises seminars for teachers to learn how to improve their teaching methods. He added that the chief examiner’s report that analyses the mistakes candidates make in each examination is a veritable tool that could improve performance if utilised in preparing candidates for the examinations.

"We go outside our mandate as an examining body to sensitise teachers. WAEC syllabus is available. I cannot imagine teachers teaching without the examination syllabus side by side with the teaching syllabus. The chief examiner’s report and the examination syllabus are very important instruments for teachers," he said.

During the 1960s. The Igbo dominated every sphere in government. Even the military, there were plenty of Igbo officers. That is why I said, there was a time when the Igbo dominated government. But those days are long gone. The Hausa-Fulani have dominated Nigeria since the capitulation of Ndi Igbo.
Just because there are Ibo officers doesn't necessarily mean they dominated the military.
Dominated in what sense? number wise or rank wise?
Even in the 60s, the highest ranking officers were of Yoruba extraction, not Igbo, not Hausa!
In terms of sheer number, the Hausas have always dominated
The British, fearing southern agitation for secession and potential southern domination of the North post independence, practically handed the machineries of the military to the North. They trained them and encouraged them more than any other group to enlist in the military

As to your claim that they dominated every sphere of government, again no evidence

The problem I have with you is that you make unsubstantiated claims that are ridiculous and bother on the absurdity; yet, you are always eager to shut others up!

Now I know where we are disagreeing with on. The population figures. It is common knowledge that the population in Eastern Nigeria has not been fully counted. That is a fact. That is why when someone says that their population is larger, I only take that with a grain of salt, because know one really knows the population of the Igbo and other Eastern ethnic groups.

Lagos has a huge population, that is something that I agree with you on. But it will be foolish to say that the entire population is Yoruba. Remember that Lagos is a multi-ethnic city, where all groups reside in that city. I doubt, a nation between the Igbo and the Yoruba would be dominated by the Yoruba. Even in Nigeria, there hasn't been a time when the Yoruba have dominated government. The Igbo at one time, and the Hausa now have dominated government. Can you name a time in Nigerian history, where the Yoruba have dominated government?

As you know the SS does not stop at the river Niger. It is also West of the River Niger, so keep that in mind as well. No one really needs oil to survive. Many nations are even resource poor. Look at many of the European nations, and they are still doing better than Nigeria. Singapore is just a city-state, and boast a very high income based on being a transport hub. Not that many natural resources are found in that city.
When?

The only region that I have seen that could have a nation, is the only region that has tasted freedom and that is the Eastern region. No other region has shown that they can be self-sufficient. It can be said that the in-fighting that has plagued the Yoruba people throughout much of their history could prove disastrous for a nation of their own. Don't people remember the Western crisis?

Its their choice, We cant decide to have them in a country if they dont want to, I dont want some SS people calling my people leeches just in a bid to remain in the same country with them, I believe the SW and even the SE can do without SS oil and troubles.

In a Yoruba country, Yoruba language would almost be the second national language, I dont know how an Edo or Delta man would adapt to this.

Also a SS nation, where would the capital be? Also Yoruba language would be overwhelmingly the dominant language with about half the country speaking it.

What would be the difference between a Southern Nigeria country and the current Nigeria.

A Southern Nigeria country might be worse for other groups because Yorubas would be the new Hausas but with better intellectual abilities.

Because of the power the of the SW block votes during elections, It might be difficult for other groups to have a major influence. By and large we are back to the same problems bedeviling current Nigeria
I agree with everything you posited above!
However, I do think to some extent the SE need the oil in the SS.
The SE is the least endowed region in Nigeria
Other than palm kernel, what do they have?
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Needs To Split Urgently! by lagbaja20: 7:14am On Dec 26, 2010
Ochi_Agha:
dayokanu, I think Southern Nigeria should remain united for the minority sake. It is my belief that the minorities fear domination from either the Igbo or the Yoruba. However, these minority group are too small to have a functioning nation of their own.
That is why SS should split into how many groups they want and either decide to join one of the other two groups or stay alone. I really do not think the SW benefits anything from cooperating with the SE, I just dont think so. It would be a mistake for the SW to allow legions of resentful and disgruntled people in their midst. The SW can stand alone. The SE can stand alone as well. But for both to come together, that would be a mistake of unimaginable proportion. I think the minorities are more fearful of the North than they are of the Yorubas and the Igbos. Yes, the SE is the least endowed region and may want to dominate them, but to say they are fearful of the SW is just ludicrous. The SW is one of the most endowed region in Nigeria, not to talk of the huge human capital she possesses.

It is too early to talk about the arrangement after splitting, if the south can run a confederal system where each unit ss , se, sw control 80 % of their resource that will be fine . The split can help the minorities realize how their ibo phobia has put then in a wilderness for 40 year, the
yorubas despite their size and years of existence can not live alone that is why they foot drag on issues pertaining to breakup.
The ibos might find it difficult abandoning all their investments in the north and west for a small waste land with little oil and coal.
The niger deltan risk becoming the new middle east with mad rush for ammunitions to secure their oil lands.
The best bet is to find a more secure and rewarding way to live in nigeria.
Do you care to elaborate?
When Yorubas asked that we all go our separate ways, what did the rest of the country call them?
What was Zik's stance on SNC? And, what was his stance on a possible break-up of the country? BTW, Zik is Ibo!

@poster
Glad to see somebody thinking almost exactly the way I do. Life will be better and development will be faster for us all if we split up, we are too large to handle. Zoning to me is child's play, it is the direct synonym of tribalism. Divided into smaller 5 or 6 nations, resources and amenities can get to reach people. I pray they realize that before that zoning thing causes a big problem. Let us not be negative anyway because I detest bloodshed in the name of politics and the struggle for power.
What do you want?
