I'm laughing at Ochi_Agha and his wild delusion of dragging Igbo into a Yoruba confederation.
Sometimes I wonder where my brothers leave their brains.  undecided undecided

If Nigeria divides, no sane southern tribe will form a nation with Yoruba. They are better on their own.

As for Become-goat and his lunacy about Igbo poverty, he should dream on.
I know that no single tribe is richer than Igbo in Nigeria (and possibly Africa).  And it has nothing to do with Nigeria's conducive environment. It has everything to do with Igbo grit and resilience.  We are like Jews. You may hate us, but that doesn't stop us. When we go on holidays, you must go too.  grin cool cool

As for me, I am more interested in designing a country where things work, where a secondary school child can have an opportunity to design technological things. A country that exports technology not one that simply consumes.

Without serious structural changes, Nigeria CAN NEVER be such country.
What is stopping Alaigbo from doing that now?

Good riddance to all cowards.
The rest of us will struggle on, either to make the country a better place or split it ammicably.
Goodluck with that!

May be you should start by going back to Nigeria

Only then will anyone take you seriously!

i AM HAPPY TO WELCOME YOU TO THIS GREAT COUNTRY

With your US pali, the opportunities are endless. You are now forever freed from the shackles and ghost of Nigeria's past, including the unfortunate situation we found ourselves some 40 years ago.

Once again, on behalf of President Obama, the US congress, and Oodua in Diaspora, I welcome you.

Ochi_Agha:
I am perfectly fine with Igbo culture. We had a true democracy, in which the Igbo figured out a thousand years ago that we have no need for chiefs of kings. The fact that we were practicing democracy before the Athenians were practicing democracy is an example of our ingenuity. In addition, our belief that every man and woman are kings and queens in their own right shows how egalitarian the Igbo people

Did Oyo have a written language? I don't think so, not that it matters. Oyo was still great. We Igbos had a written language through Nsibidi. Not that many African ethnic groups besides the Ethiopians had their own indigenous written languages.

I respect the Oyo Empire, but I will not say it is superior to any other African civilization. Let us not forget the Nri Kingdom of Igboland was built on peace, not warfare.
You have a good sense of humor!Nsibidi's exact origins are unknown but it is traditionally said to have come from the Uguakima, Ebe or Uyanga sub-group of the Igbo people of which legend says that they were taught the script by Baboons grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

What kind of crackpot theory is that? More tribal chest beating.  undecided

Oyo is quite a young for a civilization, ompared to the civilizations found in Messopotomia such as Sumeria which is the oldest civilization in the world. Let us not forget Babylonia, Hittites, Assyria, Persia, the Indus Valley civilizations, Chinese civilization etc. Or how about some ancient African civilizations like Axum, Nubia and Kemet?
Speak for yourself
If you have nothing to say about your rag-tag, follow follow ethnic group, keep quiet and let the persians, the Nubians etc speak for themselves. Abi Alaigbo extend reach those area?

CIVILISATION STARTED FROM YORUBA KINGDOM

According to historical studies, the Oyo palace is estimated to be sitting on about 640 acres. We still have excavations of the old Oyo Empire, and centuries after, some of the walls of the old Oyo Empire, are still standing in its original form. That is a great testimony of the architectural ingenuity of the Yoruba race.

The old Yoruba Empire distinguished itself in the world; with three very distinctive and unique models. First, it evolved a wonderfully developed constitution, though unwritten. The average Yoruba man is governed by strong convention. Secondly, the Yorubas evolved a military system that allows them to develop weaponry. The Yorubas are the first to smith iron and thus, they built foundries from where they also produced agricultural implements to boost food production. Thirdly, the Yoruba race evolved a very practical method of administration, by adopting the cabinet system of governance. If you are a good student of the evolution of British Constitution, you'd know that the cabinet system came about in Britain only as a matter of temporal expedience; it was not by design. So, as far back as the 16th Century, the old Oyo Empire developed the cabinet system of government. And from the Prime Minister, to the Alaafin, and the various divisional heads, all tiers have their roles and responsibilities clearly spelt out and adhered to with separation of powers, and inputs for checks and balances.

One can therefore say that civilisation started from the Yoruba race! The Yorubas established a contact with the Portuguese as far back as the 17th century and the Alaafin had maintained an ambassador with the Court of Portugal, ever since.

Dez, my proud Biafran brother. So you have no problem with a Confederation? I think Odua has a lot to offer and so does Biafra. Africa needs to be interconnected. I have yet to see Igbos killing Yorubas just because they are Yoruba and vice versa.
Who wants to be in the  same geographical location with you?

Yes you do sound very lost and cultureless. A roaming spirit with no identity.
If you know how much I pity you, you burst into tears. Forget about Nigeria and recall how in your last post your nirvana is to suck white d.i.c.k. I saw that and said a prayer for you. To have no identity is a wretched place to be, but to be a fool is much worse.

Dude, pick your brain off the floor and use it. You claim that your family doesn't give a damn about Nigeria? Here we are crying tears of blood that the fools don't.
Who cares!

In the meantime, you are ecstatic that you see whites everyday?

Why don't you guys leave this thread to those who respect this man and wish him well? I don't have the disposition to engage in silly banter with you, so I will only respond to those who are interested in substantive exchange. I wouldn't like to see this thread degenerate into another tribal sin assembly. You've made your point: you don't think much of Mr. Ojukwu nor do you subscribe to naming a street after him in any other part of Nigeria other than the east.

Those of us who think highly of the man should not be disturbed when we come to this thread to learn about the man's health or to wish him well.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: there is no one in Nigerian history who has acted on his principled belief to the extent that Mr. Ojukwu did. If Ojukwu had a contemporary in the west at the time of the civil war, Nigeria would certainly wear a different motif than it does today
What about BokoHAram and Mend?

Not in Lagos, Not anywhere in the SW

He is a pedophile and an ingrate.

We might as well name streets after MEND and BOKOHARAM since they are all fighting for what the believe in.  .   .   funny people!

I don't understand the fuss, the northern presidential candidate Alassane Ouattara, represens the predominantly Muslim north, often poor immigrant workers from Mali and Burkina Faso working on coffee and cocoa plantations.

What we need is a system that is representative of the citizen, protects them, ensures their fundamental rights and rewards their creativity and labour. Nigeria fails every single one of the above; we need to either dismantle and rebuild our federalism or let each sub nation do the walkies.

A good starting point would be a debate that leads to a contract that concretises the definition of "Nigerian", state-citizen responsibilities and marshals a Nigerian ideology. Without this, we will continue to bumble along with drunken steps that lead only to backwardness, a meaningless geographic entity with an anarchic population; staggering from failure to greater failure.
I agree we all of the above; we need to phuccking walk our different ways. the problem is that your people will suffer the most!

Ochi_Agha:
If you call those small states "empires," I dey laugh o. They were only a few empires in Africa due to their sheer size. If you bring up Oyo, it was not even big. Compared to the Ghana Empire, Songhay Empire or Mali Empire. Even the Sokoto Caliphate was much larger and stronger.

We Igbos had democracies, because we did not see the need for dominating others. Our people were very peaceful in those times. And by all accounts the foreigners thought we were the most superior people due to our intellect.
Well, i thought the Whiteman thought Yorubas were smarter
