Faeb:

Stop it abeg!
You don't need us and we don't need you. Nobody needs anybody and everybody can survive on their own if need be, we need to be confident in our abilities to weather any storm.

By the way, what culture and history does the SW share with Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa and 90% of Delta state?

I'm not saying there can't be synergy, but there certainly isn't a "need."

Well for starters, the SS has no experience in nation building, like the SW and SE. IF GEJ performance is anything to go by, then as an autonomous nation you would be in for a rude shock. The north, without doubt, would overrun you and take over your resources, like Saddam Hussein did to Kuwait. Nation building is more complicated than bribing pastors with $50.000, you couldn't even do that successfully. Furthermore, the SS does not seem to have charismatic leaders they can rally behind, like the SW, SE, and the North.

I repeat the SS, especially people of the ND, cannot survive alone without the help of either the SE or the SW. The Igbos in the SS can go along with the SE and the rest could join the SW if they want. Anyhow, the SS cannot be trusted to stand alone!

. . . and who told you the SS wants the SW  No be from Western region Mid-west run comot?

That is too strong a word;IMO, very stupit analogy
The midwest was created to ensure a more equitable share of the national cake. Its like saying Ebonyi ran away from Enugu

ROSSIKE:

Slaveboy, so why was it not lower when they WERE in charge?? They looted your resources for 90 years and yet your people were still suffering malnutrition, had no roads, not one university and a 6% literacy rate, so what makes you imagine another 50 years of the same would have altered anything dramatically?

Ode, because when they were here technology wasn't advance as it is today.
You can only do as much as the technology of the day allowed.
Pitocin and the likes are relatively recent phenomenon. The use of magnesium sulphate for tocolyssis did not start until the late 80s, forcep use and other technology are relatively recent inventions courtesy of the white man. And, without them, we would still be in the age of giving birth to 10 children with only 10% prabability of survival. For starters, the 6% literacy has got nothing to do with the white man. Moreover, prior to the arrival of the whiteman, what was the literarcy rate? 0%? No? Where would we be if they had not come?  The western education you enjoy today is courtesy of the generosity of the whiteman. The first secondary school in Nigeria, CMS in Bariga was a missionary school. The best secondary schools in Nigeria are foreing owned or foreign established ( Kings college, Queen's college,  Christ school Ado-Ekiti, The American school and the Jewish secondary school in Abuja readily come to mind, not even the Almighty Suleja academy can compete  with this schools). A little background, the reason the north lacks behind the south in western education was because when the missionaries came to Nigeria, for some reasons, the SW embraced them enthusiastically more than other regions. The north, on the other hand, in part due to their culture, did not allow them free access like the south. The north was content with her legion of Koranic schools and could not be bothered with western education. Now the 6% literacy rate, if at all correct, did not take into consideration other forms of civilizations like Arabic education.

252 per thousand Infant mortality at independence versus 90 per thousand Infant mortality today is not  improvement?

IS that an African success? Did we come up with the technology or did we rely on the ingenuity of the white man as always?

Please tell me, what school did you attend?
What?

So why did Nigeria not do as well as South Africa in the 90 years the British ruled Nigeria?

When the British were here, we had one of the best economies in the world. And also, you cant expect the same success story everywhere. There are a lot of things involved. Suffice to say, the terrain is not the same.

Nigeria? The British built NOT ONE single university right up till 1960 when they left.  Zero infrastructure, Zero everything. Why? Unlike in SA, they never intended to stay, there were no large white communities, so they saw no need to develop the country they had seized.
Well, they did not deny us access to higher education not withstanding
Yes, they did not intend to stay, and why would they.
At that point we did not have the resources to run a university. That said, anywone yearning for higher education was allowed to go to the UK to further their education; Case in point, Zik, Awo, Soyinka and the rest. The SW started producing doctors and lawyers as early as the 1800s, coutesy of the generosity of the white man. They were intent on bringing civilization to us. And, once they realized we had enough manpower tu run a university, they built one. up till today, no university in Nigeria is capable of granting a PH.D in any of the serious disciplines. If the White man was still here, Universities like the UI and OAU would be granting Ph.Ds  of equal quality as their foreign counterparts.

So you see it's not just a case of ''the white man did this in SA so he would have done same in Nigeria''.

It's far more complex than that.

What percentage of the Nigerian population did the white man educate?
The white man educated as much Nigerians as are willing to be educated. Have you read Soyinka's autobiography: Ake?

It's not enough to set up one or two elite institutions for your native backers, while the rest of the nation is mired in ignorance and illiteracy.

There is something they call  the law of supply and demand. If there was no demand, why should there be supply. Before they came here, how many Nigerians were educated enough to teach in those Universities? Do you just want them to build empty universities for the sake of building universities? They are not as wasteful as you. They believe in efficiency, unlike the many white elephant projects that now litter the landscape

How would you like if we pulled the budget on public education, closed all the schools, colleges, and unis, and used the money to build one or two fancy institutes in Abuja?

What is your point?

Achebe wrote Things Fall Apart as a pimpled face student based in Nigeria, not abroad.

Who were his teachers? Your grand father? Or the graceful white man who saw his potential and helped nurture it?

You may call him accomplished, but he is accomplished because he wrote a book which proved to the world that the African had capacity, worth, and agency, the very values you are opposed to here. So please do not desecrate Achebe's name by mentioning him in the same breath as your slaveboy drivel.

Well, you and I would not have appreciated him if the White man had not told us that he was worth his salt; after all we did not know better.

Obiagu1:

Do you want to steal the Igbo in the SS too?

No

My point is that the SS does not need the Igbos, let them all go back to the SE if they want. I really dont care what they do with their life. If they want to stay fine
But a potential cooperation between southern Nigeria do need a huge population of disgruntled and resentful Igbo population. It is better they go their separate way. The SS do not want them and the SW can do without them. So let them go their way, and the rest of what was previously known as southern Nigeria can stay together and fashion out what may be the first black superpower.

Osama10:

We can divide it into 4, what do you guys think?

Easier said that done

There are more than 4 groups in the country

And, each group would like to be the master of her own destiny, that is why any attempt to hurriedly split would lead to chaos and bloodshed. There are so many things we need to Iron out. For starters, land issue vis a vis boundary is a sensitive issue that would need careful deliberation or else we would go our different ways, yet forever embroiled in conflict!

Justcash:

You said that I was being irrational, yet advocated for an SNC.
Who told you that none of the smaller groups would survive?
An SNC is a good idea, it will still lead to Nigeria splitting, which is why it is being avoided. It is what Nigeria needs, and what I am advocating for.

My point is in your use of the world Now
Breaking up in 2015 would spell doom for all involved

We will be unready to deal with the aftermath
A gradual approach is better; hence a need for SNC ASAP.

Yeah, SNC would eventually lead to a split, but the conditions and preparation would lead to a more favorable situation after the split

North and South divide is the best option. I've come to realize we can deal with the Yorubas, whatever to bring to the table  cool

I am not sure if I, or any other Yoruba, would be willing to deal with the Ibos,  but one thing though, Yorubas need the SS, just as how they need us. And I think any cooperation with the SS would be good for the Yoruba race, and vice-versa; after all, we have shared history and, to some extent, shared culture and interests

Politics / Re: Nigeria Needs To Split Urgently! by lagbaja20: 2:27am On Dec 26, 2010
Very irrational of the OP

If Nigeria splits now, none of the smaller groups would survive

First we need to convene a SNC

Lets decide on how we want to relate with each other and then afterwards a referendum to gauge our intent and seriousness at going our different ways

And, then after then we can begin to work on how to go our separate ways.

In the good old days, you would not have been able to talk to me like this. I would have dealt with you the same way Chris brown dealt with Rihanna grin. Anyways thanks to "European civilization" you can talk freely

She needs to stay in the romance section, marry a docile whiteman and live forever after in Florida

It is unfortunate that someone of her caliber would talk to me the way she did; egbin!

Anyway, Mukina out, SEFAGO, man mi, IN; good riddance to incompetent puzsy

Most of our ''daddies'' here lived under NIGERIAN rule. What you should say is 'ask your grandparents'.

Our grandparents were ILLITERATE and starving, after 90 years of British rule.

Do you know the infant mortality rate of Nigeria was 252 per thousand in 1959?

Today it is 91 per thousand.

That's called IMPROVEMENT under black rule.

You are the one who wants to WORSEN THAT by calling in WHITE MEN to help you kill MORE of your people in their MILLIONS (not hundreds like in Jos).

Ode
That is what I call "power of modern medicine" courtesy of the white man
If the white people were still in Nigeria, it would have been be lower
Infant mortality rate in the west is extremely lower, in the US, where I did my OBGYN clerkship, it was less than 1 per 1000 births
What we have is not improvement

With the whiteman, Nigeria would be doing better than SA
Why do you think SA is doing so well?

The white man built Yaba Tech and UI, the best institutions in Nigeria till date
The most accomplished Africans are the foreign trained Africans
Name any well accomplished Nigerian, you would realize they did most of their schooling outside the country; from Achebe to Soyinka to Gani to OBJ to name the person

I say bring back white people! YAY

strangerf,

You need to take it slow with how you talk to women, for real.

Any man that keeps on in life with the mentality that women are worthless is bound to find a worthless path in life. And I'm not just saying this because I'm a woman.

SEFAGO is a sexist eddiot, so I expected his gibberish. You, you need to calm down.

Are you high on Taba?
Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed today?
Time of the month?
Where did you get that from?

I have my own advice for you

Ileke-Idi TVT,

You need to take it slow with how you talk to Ezeuche and Omo_ngbati, for real.

Any woman that keeps on in life with the mentality that men are worthless is bound to find a worthless path in life. And I'm not just saying this because I'm a man.

Thanks!
