Not all ebay items attract $30 commission. Phones are a total of $20 including shipping. Items for less than $70 attract less. No way we can charge even $10 for a $1 item!
Shipping is $5 per pound.

Ebay has more items.
Craigslist has cheaper items. Our charges on Craigslist are a bit more as we need to drive to go get them.

One of the first time I bought a laptop on Craigslist was about 5 years ago. Seller was lady and I was like "its a girl now" she cant lie-so I didnt check the laptop and 1 hour later when I got home-found out she had tricked me-it was junk.
99% of sellers on Craigslist are good people who wont decieve you BUT they may not be aware of facts about their own items-so dont rely on the answers to questions like:
-Does it use a sim card
-Is it unlocked
-Is it quad core
-Is the battery life good

Then there are the 1% who ARE thieves. One of them sold an iphone to a thread member through us and we shipped to Naija. Phone was stolen and he is not happy as it is locked. There are no returns on Craigslist. On ebay -yes there are-but when its already in Naija-do you want to pay money to send it back to the USA?

Please help me flag this ad -seller is a liar and thief. Just click on where it says prohibited[?]

Bro-which heartache? Your items shipped just last week and due for arrival. I even shipped before you paid! None of your items have been delayed ever.

stechi: Guys, I guess its best we purchase the items with our money and ensure we have them in our custody before collecting money from clients because logistics for shipping items is not as easy as you think and bugging @lagtech on status of items being expected even after his clarification on how the shipment is handled would only keep your health status at risk (because of too much thinking and disturbance from your clients).

No ill-feelings and neither do I know @lagtech, but my experience over the years on online purchases have shown me that shipment of items most times does not work out the way the shipper/receiver expects from the shipment company.

Moreover,its better to communicate with the client by just showing him pictures of what to expect, telling him/her that the payment should be made available once the item is in your (sellers') hands.

@lagtech , I would like to suggest that your own items being sold should be made available in Nigeria so that once we make payment we pick up immediately while you face the logistics for other areas of the business (that's clients making payments to e-commerce site for specific items). Because when we see the items on your website, and interested in buying immediately,one gets surprised to hear that the items are still in the USA and when payment is made, delayed logistics leads to waiting by buyers who desperately needs those items immediately.

One of the best comments I have seen on this thread EVER. You have spoken well-your forefathers and your God must be proud of you.

I explain to everyone everytime even before the order. I have people who order and the next day-they are asking how far? Someone paid and 3 days later when I explained arrival was the next Friday (9 to 14 days) he said it was too long after paying. Even though I had told him the same thing before he paid.

If I had my way shipping would be 24 hours-I dont have that power right now. Soon -we may have.

Right from Page 1 of the thread -we explain that even though shipping is normally 10 to 14 days-it can elongate to the 3rd week and beyond.

An item that takes 3 weeks + is not delayed. Its late. It can happen and happens.

Over a month is delayed and when that happens we take responsibility and finds ways to compensate owners.

One of our customers here on this thread-recommended a shipper to us on Nairaland-a very good person-but even this guy warned me that even though Thursday is his pick up day-there can be delays. Last Thursday's items were not available 5 days later as of Monday morning. Our shipper 1 released goods from 3 weeks ago just on Friday. The ones that were supposed to land last Saturday the 27th-no word yet.

But the truth is that 80% of items arrive within 14 days. @Nostalgia21 -our very first customer has had items arrive in 8 days and has had items delayed for over 2 months. We have had people pick up items in 6 days.
Its repeat customers that give us confidence that even if we are doing some things wrong-there must be many things we are doing right to have over 80% of customers come back to buy again again

We trust our shippers -and are aware of the challenges they face as well.

Our thread is created primarily for importers. Importers who have been importing for years know that delays WILL ALWAYS HAPPEN. People who are used to buy retail cannot be patient waiting for 2, 3 weeks when they know they can walk into a store and buy things.

We dont expect everyone to be willing to wait. The items we list for sale on our website are priced low-very low to reflect possible delays. A laptop on our website for N25,000 will be sold for N35,000 if we sell direct Lagos and from October we will have such available. Pay today-get today.

I have been buying things on Ebay since 2002-and many times items seem to take forever to arrive-while others arrive in 2 days. @Humblesteves wristwatch from ebay arrived at ur US office after 1 month. It took over 3 weeks to get Chika's phone from Ebay.

With craigslist 2 charges:

1) Cost of petrol to the city of pick up. Some cities are as far as Lagos to Ilorin from where we are. Charges are $3 to $25. Check Page 1 of thread for cost to some cities.

2) Commission: $30 includes shipping IF its is phone as in your case.
