Craigslist is not like that. WIth ebay-i sit in my office-pay on the computer-and it is shipped to me. If any problem arises-ebay/paypal solves it. With craigslist-its tougher.
-Some sellers wont release their phone numbers and you have to track them by email.
-Some of them have jobs and their hours to meet is tight
-Sometimes even when they are ready-it is not convienient for me or the person picking up.

I will work something out with the seller and pick up.

Always best to email such 'sweet' links by email with subject URGENT DEAL. But another nairalander actually emailed (BetaTech) and I contacted the seller. Was number 3 on the list. Its sold now-but I am in touch with the seller now and told him to let me know when he has such good deals. He said he has 3 other laptops with no operating system installed. I have asked him to send me the model number-to know how good they are.

Your 4 Dell laptops work.
3 have hard drives: Two 80gbs and one 160gb. The one without the hard drive has no caddy.
Two have 2gb ram. One has 3gb ram. Last one has 1gb.
All batteries hold a charge including the new battery.
I installed Windows 7 on one of them as a test.

@Nnamdin-these are your Gateway Laptops-

1st one on the left has crack by corner and batter DOES NOT hold any charger. Has 1gb ram-no hard drive.
2nd one on the right has battery that holds a charge.
1 charger seems to have come with the laptops.

Craigslist is best done face to face. In some cases one can risk the shipping option if the seller has a verified paypal account-as Paypal can always get your refund.

The School Drive

The School Drive is a project through which we target schools all over Nigeria and get them laptops for cheap. Years ago-it was hard convincing school operators why students and schools needed laptops and computers; its easier now with almost anyone having access to the Internet.
The aim is not just to provide laptops to students and schools-but to also make the laptops useful even without Internet access . With the light on (NEPA) and internet access-the uses are obvious. The challenge is putting resources on the computers where there is no internet access so that the laptops or desktops dont just become decorations.

-Books, Dictionairies can be stored on them.
-Microsoft word and other publishing software for classwork, homework etc
-Scientific information like periodic table setc
-Lesson notes for teachers

Thanks to our Agent in Plateau State @mazadogoodman-who is in talks with schools in Jos for mass supplies. These are answers to some of the questions he asked:


2.) At what price should such laptops be advertised to interested parties with a view to entice and convince them as well as make profit, with all costs considered?


You should target selling 100 laptops to one school at a time and making 3k to 5k per laptop -leaving room for the school or principal to make some money too. Unless they are high end laptops like dual cores with webcams where you can make up to 30k per laptop.

3.) Besides affordable pricing, what else ought to be honestly emphasised as an attractive selling point?
The students will eventually buy-so why not now through your contact (principal, proprietor etc). You should also offer after sales service, support and even sales of printers and generators etc where possible.

4.) Where the supplier is constrained by inadequate funds or lack of funds, what is the plausible remedy? i.e.

*How does the supplier convince the client to make some deposit as commitment without any samples?

*How does the supplier convince YOU, the "source man", to release samples without money deposit or part payment?

a) Use networking to get funds if you dont have.
b) Give them the option of paying less if they deposit.
c) That may be worked out.


Laptop prices are seriously going down. Pentium 3s and 4s are are hardly being purchased by anyone these days. You can get these laptops for as low as $10 to $30. These can be offered easily to primary and secondary schools. With air cargo shipping they will land for about 10k to 12k. With sea shipping they can land for 4k to 8k.

OCTOBER CONSIGNMENT.
We have a consignment that will be shipped by sea at the end of October-that will clear by January. Each laptop will be available for 8k and will include charger and hard drive. The laptops will be mostly the following:

Dell Latitude C Series ( C600, C640, C800, etc)
IBM Thinkpad T Series
Others will be Sony, HP, Toshiba.
All Pentium 3s and 4s

Please note-your payment will give you a laptop from what is available. If you have a specific laptop type -that you want which we dont have -you will need to source it yourself and can then ship it with our consignment.

There are certain schools and students that will prefer and can pay for high end laptops. We have packages for this category. This October Consignment is for those with little cash available to spend; those who cant afford to spend 25k to 50k on a laptop.

9 Laptops are coming in from a trusted supplier Sunday evening. He has sold to many nairalanders and now always contacts me when he has laptops for sale. They are all newier laptops and ready to go. Chargers may not be included (Im not sure until seller arrives from Chicago Sunday evening) I dont have the exact specs-but all are dual cores or higher with at 160gb to 500gb hd, webcam, 2gb to 4gb ram.
