What Kanu stated here is 100% factual. Abia State has cultural affinity with Ibibios, Efiks, Opobo and Ejaghams right from the ancient writing systems to culture and traditions than with any other SS state! What link does states like Edo, Delta and Bayelsa have with Akwa Ibom and Cross River? Do such links if present supercede that it has with Abia State? Mwotam masquerade is celebrated all the way from Aba to these places since recorded history!

Lots of influential Ibibio/Efik people had links with Aba since precolonial times, and many still remain in the city. Rev Uma Ukpai is from Abia (Bende division) but the name sounds like a typical Ibibio/Efik name and he even dwells among them! There are similar cultural links between Ngwa (especially Abala Nkamiri axis) with the Ibibios. So, yes, Nnamdi Kanu is right in his assertions and I believe he often makes research before coming to the public with his claims. However, I care less with the politics and mischievous shenanigans dishonest Nigerians often bring up to cause animosity in their desperate attempts to alienate Igbos from their neighbors.

The final decision will still be for the Ibibio/Efik/Ejaghams to decide where they want to be. It is up to them to go with whoever they think would be in their best interest.
