Governors of Nigeria’s South-East states have said that they know nothing about the Army’s Operation Python Dance in the region. The military campaign, which was used to clampdown on the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra and eventually led to its proscription by the government, led to the deaths of many members of the group headed by Nnamdi Kanu. As a result of the incident, IPOB vowed to attack all top ranking government officials including South-East politicians suspected to have supported the military exercise that stifled their activities in the region. Speaking with journalist after a meeting of stakeholders from the South-East, Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, explained that he and his colleagues never invited the military to the region for Operation Python Dance. He said, “South-East governors never invited the Army nor were South-East governors informed of any of their operations on Python Dance until the operations started in the states. “South-East governors would like to write to Mr President to request for a meeting with him and all the security chiefs to douse tension in the region.” Recall that members of IPOB had attacked former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, in Nuremburg, Germany, on August 17 during an event to celebrate New Yam Festival. The organisation went further to say that it would continue to attack politicians from the region suspected to be against its activities. The threat by the group has since sent shivers down the spines of politicians from the region with many allegedly cancelling overseas trips for fear of being humiliated by IPOB members. http://saharareporters.com/2019/08/31/ipob-threat-count-us-out-operation-python-dance-say-south-east-governors |

The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum has expressed dismay over what they described as the insensitivity and impunity of the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees, Senator Walil Jubril, in his declaration of support for the controversial Ruga Settlement of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. DAILY POST had reported Jubril as urging Nigerians to embrace the establishment of the now-suspended RUGA Settlement, stressing that the proposed settlement policy for herdsmen would promote peace and security in the country. Speaking in his Nasarawa country home, he also explained that the programme would boost food security and improve on the health and standard of living of rural communities. Reacting, Yinka Odumakin, Prof. Chigozie Ogbu, Senator Bassey Henshaw and Dr Isuwa Dogo from the South West, South East, South South and Middle Belt respectively, in a joint statement, observed, “The ethnic domination programme seeks to create homelands for Fulani herdsmen all over Nigeria in spite of the terror non-Fulani communities have been subjected to even when these herders are nomads. “Southern and Middle Belt communities have rejected the internal colonialism agenda outrightly.” The statement explained that the PDP BoT chairman has confirmed the fears that this is an ethnic conquest policy that is at variance with nationhood. Jubril while declaring his support for the Ruga settlement said, “I and my ethnic group (Fulani) had embraced the programme. Ruga project includes provision of hospitals, schools, water supply and electricity, among other facilities, which will have direct bearing on the lives of herders. “Apart from that, it will also tackle the incessant farmers/herdsmen’ conflicts as well as boost food security in the country.” The Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum asserted: “We say clearly to Jubril that his appeal to our zones to accept the obnoxious policy is rejected with no thanks. “He should join his fellow ethnic supremacists to pursue Ruga in the states in the North that have accepted Ruga and spare us his sophistry and non-sequitor . “Our opposition to the policy remains unwavering and Ruga will only be implemented in our communities after a military conquest of the entire South and Middle Belt as we have told Femi Adesina that we will keep our lands and lives against Ruga policy. “We are not members of the PDP, though we adopted Atiku as presidential candidate in the last election based on his promise to restructure Nigeria, but we call on all PDP Governors in our zones to ignore their BOT Chair who has spoken as a champion of his ethnic group but wearing the badge of their party. We say NO to Ruga!” https://dailypost.ng/2019/08/14/ruga-settlement-rejected-no-thanks-southern-middle-belt-leaders-blast-pdp-bot-chairman/ |

nasoeb:I think you have eyes problem did you see anywhere i mentioned that Ika are igbo people i made it clear i don't care if they see themselves as Igbo or not. And as for Oshimili and Aniocha there's no dispute if they are igbo or not. because they don't have identity problem they are proudly igbo. |
Only Oshimili and Aniocha in Anioma don't have identity problem. Please op we have discussed this issue so many times here. Ika people are free to deny not to be igbo nobody cares stop making them feel so important. even my local government have population more than ika people. The only problem i have with them is that they have failed to stop naming their children igbo name. most of this people have been hiding under igbo name and be committing crimes all over the world once Nigeria see any crime related to igbo name nobody cares to know if the person is from Ndokwa, Ika or Ikwerre which is very unfair to Ndigbo |

LAGOS – FORMER Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Bode George, Wednesday, cautioned National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu against what he described as THE harassment of Igbo residents in Lagos. In a statement George frowned at the recent use of thugs and hired urchins and low-lives allegedly used to harass and unleash mayhem on the people of the South East in Lagos describing it “reprehensible, condemnable, sickening and very dangerous.” The statement reads: “This clearly ill-advised jungle justice on fellow Nigerians whose offense is basically the fact that they voted according to their conscience is capable of provoking a reprisal attack and a greater cataclysm that may graduate into a fury that no one would be able to control. “Since yesterday I have been talking to various stakeholders from the South East to be restrained and calm and not to let the unfortunate incident widen into another violent scenario that may consume the nation itself. “I am appealing to President Buhari to call Bola Tinubu to order lest his reckless penchant of mobilizing thugs against all perceived enemies does not ricochet into the tragedies of 1962 and 1963 which eventually triggered the Nigerian Civil war. “Lagos is a mini Nigeria. It is the most accommodating and the most friendly entity in the Nigerian space. We welcome everyone with vivid embrace and with sincerity of purpose. We are the Nigerian melting pot, encouraging traders and various merchants to bring their gods for sale. We do not discriminate. If we had discriminated against Tinubu himself, he could never have risen to the level of relevance which he has achieved today in our Lagos. “We need peace in Lagos. We do not need hired hands sponsored to disrupt business activities of fellow Nigerians.” Read more at: https://www.vanguardngr.com/2019/02/call-tinubu-to-order-bode-george-tells-buhari/ |
