The Police Public Enlightenment Campaign Forum is to partner with Kaduna State Government on training 5,758 youths on intelligence gathering and curbing crime in the state.


Chief Sheriff and National Coordinator of the forum, DSP Abdullahi Umar Ladan, stated this while briefing newsmen in Kaduna on Tuesday.

He explained that the collaboration is with Banpet Security and surveillance Services which will train 250 youths in all the 23 local government areas in the state.


According to him, the selected youths are also expected to be trained on community policing, intelligence gathering and electronic security technology in soft and hard wares.



DSP Ladan remarked that this was in view of the enormous security ch facing the state and by extension the country.

“We believe this aspect of security has been neglected in most of our communities and our resolve to rejig it,” he declared.

DSP Ladan further explained that the partnership is directly with the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Kaduna State.

According to the police officer, with the state government’s approval the training is expected to commence soon.

Chairman, Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi; his Lagos State counterpart, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and former Governor of Bauchi State, Adamu Mua’zu, have described the late father of the Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, as a man who lived an excellent and a sacrificial life.
They also submitted that Pa Emmanuel Abiodun used the teaching profession to produce champions for the country. The trio gave this position in their separate remarks when they paid condolence visit to Governor Abiodun on the demise of his father at the Iperu-Remo family house of the governor, yesterday.

Fayemi noted that the late Pa Abiodun played important part in education development in the Western Region and Ekiti State in particular, as a teacher at the Christ School, Ado-Ekiti, describing the deceased as a thorough-bred teaching professional who tutored people to become champions in their chosen fields.




Also speaking, Sanwo-Olu noted that the deceased was a role model and a disciplinarian, who used his profession to impact positively on the lives of so many people.

He said that though he is no more, it is imperative for those he left behind to appreciate God for what He used the deceased to achieve, declaring that “Pa Abiodun lived a good life and his memories will linger for a long time.”

On his part, Mua’zu described the late Abiodun as a man who did his best for the people, his environment and beyond. He added that he was a father of all and a good teacher to those who had the privilege of being his students.

Responding on behalf of the family, Governor Abiodun said his father was a great teacher who used the teaching profession to reshape the society by producing eminent personalities who are making positive impact in the country.

He expressed his gratitude to God for granting him the grace to survive his father, whom he noted, was a humble and dedicated family man.

The Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy says it will soon deploy the Five Generation network in Nigeria for increased connectivity.

The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, disclosed this in Abuja when he featured on FORUM, a special News Agency of Nigeria interview programme.

The minister said that the decision to deploy the 5G network followed an outcome of thorough investigations, research, and trial absolving it of posing a security or health threat.

According to him, the work on the national policy on 5G stands at 95 per cent done and will be presented to the Federal Executive Council in due course.

Pantami, who said that the primary concern of the government was to ensure the security and welfare of Nigerians in their utilisation of services in the telecommunications sector, blamed the delay in the deployment of the 5G network on conspiracy theories.

There were concerns that COVID-19 was associated with the deployment of the 5G communications network.

“Our government is a listening one; so we listen to constructive criticisms, respect it and appreciate it and at least we value it.




“We’d reached advanced stage of 5G, then, an issue came up that 5G was related to COVID-19; many people including the educated ones started circulating it without verification.

“Naturally, people are a bit scared and skeptical about technology.

“So we gave enough time to do more consultation, creating awareness in local languages so as to engage our citizens to address all the challenges.



“We set up a technical team that accommodated security, health, and environmental institutions, and the public sector so that we can be on the same page.

“I want to give you the assurance that the 5G communication network is in the pipeline.”

Pantami said that the ministry had started discussions with the Nigerian Communications Commission concerning spectrum for commercial purposes.

“From that spectrum, NCC will give it to mobile operators to start deployment; so, the policy is almost ready.




“I went to the National Assembly, I defended our presentation and they have accepted and they have also endorsed the deployment of 5G.

“They have also encouraged us to learn from other countries that have deployed 5G and we have already done that.

“The World Health Organisation has issued a statement that there is no relationship between 5G network and COVID-19 and that addresses the health issue.

“Similarly, the International Communications Union (ICU), which is an arm of the UN, also issued another statement debunking any implications from the 5G,” Pantami said.

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the reconstitution of the standing committee of the National Honours Award, which is to last for a period of four years.

Director of Parastatals, Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Dr. Stella Maduka, in a statement yesterday, urged the 11 members to uphold the confidence and trust reposed in them by Nigerians.

The Emir of Lafia, HRH Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad I (Rtd), will serve as the chairman, while the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Permanent Secretary, FMSDIGA and Director, Special Duties, will serve as members.

Other are Farida Waziri (North-West), Muhammed Ja’afaru, (North West), Sale Isa (North-East), Chief Inikio Sam-Sele Dede (South South), Prof. Lazarus Ekwueme, (South-East) Yemisi Shyllon (South-West), and Abdullahi Jibril Oyekan.

Maduka said: “The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has approved the reconstitution of the Standing Committee on National Honours Award for a period of four (4) years with effect from 5th August, 2021 with the following as Members:



“In a letter conveying the approval of Mr. President to Members of the Standing Committee, the Honourable Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Sen. George Akume, extended his hearty congratulations and best wishes to the Members.

“Accordingly, we wish you hearty congratulations as you carry out this National Assignment.”

Chairman, House Committee on Finance, James Faleke, made this known at the ongoing public hearing on the 2022/2024 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) on Thursday in Abuja.

“We are not you happy the way Nigeria is borrowing N5.62 trillion and we have some fund somewhere staying fallow without being used.

“For God sake, let us build this country together for the sake of all of us,’’ he said.

Faleke said that the major problem facing the country was revenue generation, adding that the House of Reps would be more interested in how much government agencies could save.

He said that if the House of Reps discovered that any of the government agencies’ capital projects were unnecessary, they would be removed in a bid to get revenue for the country.


The committee also directed the Nigeria Communication Commission to provide the turnover of amount realised from all network operators from 2018 to 2020.

Faleke said that this would enable the committee to look at their records and be able to determine if the revenue proposal for 2022 to 2024 would be good for the country.

Some of the agencies invited for the 2022 to 2024 MTEF and FSP public hearing are Nigeria Port Authority, Nigeria Communication Commission, Nigeria Copyright Commission, Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission.

Others are Nigeria Metrology Agency, Nigeria Postal Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Export Promotion Council, Nigeria Communication Satellite Ltd. among others.

Mr Emeka Iseogwu, the General Manager, Finance, who represented the Director-General of NPA, said that the agency was on course in terms of revenue generation.

He said that NPA was targeting N338 billion for revenue in 2022.

The Minister of Defence, retired Maj.-Gen. Bashir Magashi, has pledged to support the widows of the military officers who were involved in the 1992 C-130 plane crash in Lagos.
Magashi made the pledge when he granted audience to the representatives of the Widows led by their National Coordinator, Ogale Jude, on Wednesday in Abuja.

The Special Assistant to the Minister on Media and Publicity, Mohammad Abdulkadri, announced this in a statement on Wednesday.

He assured them of his commitment to address the gaps that led to the delay and discrepancies in settling the commitments to the widows.


The minister, however, tasked the group to furnish the ministry with the updated facts and figures about members living or dead.

He added that the raw data would trigger actionable efforts to meet their demands once and for all.

The group coordinator, Jude, raised the general concerns about the yet to be fulfilled promises by the tripartite bodies of the federal government, the home states of the deceased and the services.

Jude said promises in areas of building houses, purchase of cars and trainings of children of the families of the officers who paid the supreme price in line of duty were yet to be fulfilled.

The group coordinator, who said that some of their members were no longer alive, said that they died as a result of lack of funds to cater for their medical bills.
