A lot of factors may cause the delay in a project.

In my own experience, sometimes the issue may be from the client brief.

In some instances the client may want something and the developer is thinking something else.

It also lies in the experience of the developer.

And the very common one is issue with 3rd party integrations. I once tried to integrate a 3rd party mobile payment sdk and it took me more than 3 days. Ordinarily it would not take me more than a few hours but the documentation for the SDK was very brief and the sdk itself was buggy.

Am gonna be frank with you on this one.
Nigerian Devs are motivated by money I agree. We don't really care much about your "big idea".

We build for you so you can get on with your business. It's on to the next project for us.
Don't try to make us partners and all that co-founder crap. It's such an old line. Doesn't work.

To protect yourself, you could ask for a wire frame or a prototype of your idea, but honestly not all who want software projects know what they are doing.

Chaps come up here and ask you "how much does it cost to build this and that app/project?" This questions are very naive. I know that 90 percent are just jokers. You cannot really estimate the total cost of a software project. You don't have to agree with my opinion on this.

Its better these sets of people stick to making regular websites which costs less than 50k.

So Nigerian devs are not the problem really, we have our faults. Project/ Idea owners need to have a real understanding of what they really want.

Cost of most web/app development projects aren't fixed as they varies largely due to required features, complexities , expertise required, etc.

For a Mobile app (excluding the hosted services that promises owning an app without any coding) , it either can be Web-View (often cheaper) or native (often more expensive).

Don't rely solely on costs as a determining factor in choosing a developer as you might end up jeopardizing your project.

But just an insight, an instant messaging (IOS for that matter) app would cost anywhere from 300k. Android can be cheaper anyways.
Such apps comes with a back-end for management and administration.

Anywhere from 80,000 naira and above depending on if you want a web-view or not.

Please steer clear of those who would want to give you a hoSted app. They are slow, unreliable and very expensive in the long run.
