liveLongNprospa: So the increase from 45 to 100k isn't enough to get pissed about? Is this a joke? Even 70k is an additional 25k increase especially in these times and you think it's not worth getting pissed about? Abi na na another economy you dey function inside? Are you expecting the price to remain the same? The school is tuition free. The uniform and textbooks will also increase in the market with the current market realities, should the govt be paying the difference? |

Lmaooo wetin be this? Nigerians ehn is for the sensationalisation of the news. The new bill is for new students and considering the current economic realities, I dont know what you expect the govt to do except maybe you want the govt to start subsidizing their fees again after being tuition free. |

afrodoc2: 100%.
The quality of pupils the primary schools are churning out to the secondary schools is poor and the quality of students the secondary schools are sending to university is even worse. It is like trying to build a skyscraper on sand.
The university education subsidies should be removed but only after alternative sources of funding like loans, scholarships, grants are made available.
The focus should be on having a broad of quality primary and secondary schools and empowering the universities to provide quality fee-based education Yes. Infact I believe the FG should increase its number of FGC schools. Properly fund and run the unity schools and take hands off completely from tertiary education. Anybody that wants to go to the University should do so through loans, grants and scholarship like you said. The FG can also introduce sport scholarships into Unity schools like the USA does. They can model it the way sport scholarships work. This means University will have sports teams like football and basketball. This will mean investing in our local football leagues and basketball leagues also. |

When the student loan scheme is out and people still avoid it and insist on free tertiary education , then we can say such students are not serious and not ready to go to university . Not now when nothing is in place Putting the cart before the horse seems to be our specialty. |

About $2.1 billion was left by Goodluck Jonathan’s administration
Lol,I expect one Ruben Diaz to defend this now,He miraculous shows up here when ECA is discussed, when GEJ slander is going on to add more fuel or 8years of Buhari's APC is critiqued in comparison to GEJ... Jonathan met excess crude account at $20bn and in just 5yrs squandered it to $2.1bn even though he presided during the period of our highest surplus income from crude oil sales. Jonathan should go and sit down one place. |

BlueRayDick: This is what I typed by urself na (See attached screenshot )
See where this discussion started was that the government has been subsidizing tertiary education before now and i don’t believe they should just yank it off without providing an alternative like interest free loan if the subsidy must go.
The government is yet to put anything like that in place aside from just reading it out to us in paper, yet government schools are already hiking fees . The education bank they proposed has not been established as we speak , how students can access the loan has not been critically discussed , the terms of the loan nobody knows about it . Why talking off the subsidy on tertiary education in a rush? The school fees should remain the same till the student loan Scheme start running and students has access to it. It's just common sense. |

Emaprince: Omo, but this unification dey bite hard for students abroad. I was reading an article about this and many students who left their school fees in Naira can't even afford to pay their tuition fee cos they have to look for double the initial amount they had in account.
However, the unification still isn't exactly going as it should. On the I$E window, it closed at $742 on tuesday, but aboki was still selling at over $800 as at yesterday. How does that support the unification when the actual price on the streets is still different from the official price? My brother, its expected. I'm sure we had a discussion about this last year Nov or Dec on this thread. The fx market is still volatile, it will take some time for it to stabilize. There was a day that the price in the black market was lower than the I & E window. As more liquidity enters into the fx market through the I & E window, the price will stabilize. |

Segedinho: My hard feeling is based on the fact that he believe we don't earn in dollars and so have no biz with cost of goods even in the face of dollar rise
1.9tr is a lot of money in figures but has less purchasing power in reality due to naira's value as well as the effect of fuel hike in today's Nigeria market
1.9 would actually have thesame rating with billions of yesteryears when naira vs dollar was decent n fuel subsidised..........
So what is there to hold d blokos of the govt for when there was no excuse for Jonathan n bubu
Telling Nigerians to exclude the FG from d hardship just because he gave a less valued 1.9tr to the states is nothing less than being CORN-y Whatever it is you are arguing, you are the only one that knows because everyone knows dollars affect the prices of goods especially as we are an import dependent country. The question I'm asking you is 1.9tr is useless in comparison to what? What figures are you looking at that's making you call 1.9tr useless? Anyone who did economics in secondary school will know that inflation affects the time value of money. 1 naira in 2012 can never be the same as 1 naira in 2023, likewise $1 in 2012 is not the same value as $1 in 2023. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by larride(m): 2:33am On Jul 20, 2023 |
Segedinho: Simple and straightforward..
Yah can't be defending naira vs dollars when our existence as a nation is dependent on importation..
How could you not fault dollar rise for the uselessness of naira purchasing power is beyond me...
Our agaba-economist is using S/K who depend less on importation to naira.......
They are jubilating over 1 9tr useless Nigeria naira and want us to hold the gov "blokos" because their wassap admins said so.... What exactly is your own argument exactly because I don't understand. If you divide the 1.9tr with the current exchange rate, you will still see an increase in the revenue for this month. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by larride(m): 2:31am On Jul 20, 2023 |
Most people importing before the unification of the exchange rate source their $$ from the black market, most of them were not getting it at the then official rate of 460/$. That's why once the price moves in the parallel market, the price of things move. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by larride(m): 2:26am On Jul 20, 2023 |
iamoyindamola: Because you are here to experience it doesn't mean those who supported it won't backtrack Larride didn't support it initially, but he came to agreement and now he's gone back to his initial stand You guys should consider us that are suffering it, seun must have felt it too for him to open up My stance has always been that fuel subsidy shouldn't have been removed when he did. Nothing is going to change that stance. Let's just hope they use their head to mitigate this disaster. However, I do support the unification of the exchange rates, anybody that needs dollars should pay the true value for it. Makes no sense for the govt to keep using scarce fx to prop up the value of the naira. |
