While we are still on that, the National Assembly are in the process of creating even more new agencies. |

The thing come be like say na una wey move early 2000's, dem Ibime's really move well. I dont think theres any cause of alarm. Nigerians are just the loudest on SM. The number of those going to school in the UK to japa might not even be up to 20k. I might be wrong though because I dont have any official data to that effect. Using Canada as an example, last year those that successfully migrated to canada was around 9k+ |

Anyone who doesn't meet up fire them just like MTN or Zenith Bank will do Lol. The same way Assu is on strike now majorly because they want to dictate the terms of their engagement to their employees, they want autonomy and still want the FG to fund it. ASSU annual salary is around 246bn and they want the FG to double the salary for them taking their salary to about 490bn annually. That's half a trillion naira every year for ASUU alone. Let's even talk of recurrent expenditure of the Presidency with salaries and others benefits. For last 2021, their personnel cost was 1.7bn while ASUU gulps 249bn. Let's scrap salaries and wages for the Presidency (including aides and all other appointees), what we will save is 1.7bn The same way NDDC staff are currently protesting because of personnel audit. The same way NUEE shut down the national grid because they don't want to write promotional exams. They practically plunge the whole nation into darkness because they dont want to write exam before promotion. In last year budget alone, recurrent expenditure (Salaries, wages, pension and gratuities) to MDAs alone is 3.7 trillion out of a 13 trillion budget. The Nigeria Army personnel cost alone is over 400bn annually. |

2) I don’t know and wasn’t addressing the particulars of this current strike action. I was only reacting to your generalisation that essential workers should not go on strike. It should depend on the situation not a blanket ban. I understand. |

afrodoc2: It depends on the reason for the strike. You can’t make a blanket statement that essential workers should never go on strike when government treats them like trash sometimes.
You can’t deny them that right that other workers have to go on strike and then still maltreat them just because they are essential workers. If they are so essential then treat accordingly. Being an essential worker should not be a punishment. The trade disputes acts stipulates that essential workers must utilize every resolution mechanisms which includes the National Industrial Court before embarking on any strike. Oasis has posted their reason for going on strike here, you can easily deduce the reason why they are on strike. If I was the President, every single one of those guys that shut down the national grid will be cooling off in dss custody right now. |

A lot of postponement of meetings and promises to review grievances. Lots of sending third parties to cajole, threaten or bribe union leaders. Incredibly skilled time wasting techniques. And not just a few minutes like in football both a few months to a few years. You are right but then essential workers should not be going on strike or even attempt to tamper with critical national assets. |

In fact the bulk of the government is made up of the civil service. Those who will not go to work and make those who need their service to suffer, those that will sabotage procedures put into place for things to run smoothly so they can make quick bucks, those who will wake up one morning and decide who shut down a critical national assets because they dont want to write promotional exams. BlueRayDick: You may not be far from the truth, but successive governments too have not helped matters. Some reckless and unnecessary government spendings too give these people impetus to make such demands on the government.
Someone was saying a senior lecturer earns ₦220k while Someone like Bashir Ahmed the twitter guy gets paid ₦800k plus. Stuff like this make people agitate and make demands on government even when the goverment says it can't afford to pay higher. I think cost of governance is unnecessarily too high in this part of the world. So these people will just blackmail the government into shifting ground or paint the government bad in the eyes of the people I agree that our cost of governance is too high because of the kind of representative government we are running. Salaries and allowance of public servants (elected or appointee) needs to be reduced drastically but if you check our recurrent expenditures, MDA salaries is what make the bulk of those expenditures. Theres no way you are going to reduce cost of governance without merging/dissolving a lot of agencies and we know the cry that will follow from it. The Oronsaye report is there on how we can cut cost of governance but who will retrench workers and the public will go against him/her for being heartless? While we are talking of cost of governance, the National Assembly are in the process of creating new agencies and departments. Also political appointee salaries are always tenured and non pensionable. |

BlueRayDick: I know a family friend who exited NITEL due to the advent of GSM as u posited, I don't know how much he got paid but I know his severance package was enough for him to build hospital from the one full plot of land left in his compound. His wife was a chief matron in one of the big general hospitals in Lagos and his first son was almost through with his MBBS that time ; they only employed two doctors who were running shifts pending when his son finished his training as a doctor and took control of the place. Today baba is enjoying his retirement.
My problem is ; is there no other way any union of government employees can get the government's attention apart from strike?
I took a borrowed course in Industrial relations & personnel management in school and u see professors talking about so many ways employees can express their grievances to their employers, why are none of those media yẹ idling results aside from strike in our own society? What is wrong with us? Most times strike is used as a blackmailing tool to force the hand of govt to their demand because the unions know that govt will automatically take the blame whatever happens. |

Roland17: You mean the same results from 388 polling booths that an agent who testified acknowledged to have manipulated to favor Uzodinma considering they were in his strong hold? You do realize Uzodinma did not deny this fact during cross examination?
You mean the same results that did not take into account the votes of the other top contenders before calculating the final numbers? The number of accredited voters in the 388 polling unit was 252,452, guess the number of votes calculated for APC and PDP? 252, 452!!! What does that tell you? Does that mean only 2 parties gathered all 252, 452 votes in the 388 excluded polling units?
Riddle me… After manipulating the numbers, do you know the number of votes PDP was given out of the 252,452 votes from a whopping 388 polling units?
How come the votes excluded in his stronghold because of “violence” affect only his numbers? Why do you think Uzodinma filed an objection against the review of Supreme Court’s judgement after Justice Nweze brought to light some of the discrepancies and haste in the judgement?
Let’s be clear, the Supreme Court said it lacked the jurisdiction to review the case not because the call for a review lacked merit or credibility. Let’s also be clear that the SC did not set aside the ruling of the high court which dismissed Uzodinma’s suit for a lack of merit.
This is politics and politics won, let’s leave it at that because there was no legitimacy and you can’t force legitimacy as evident in Imo state. Finally and more importantly, this is a leadership issue than a party issue for me. I will make the same argument for APC if the case/ situation is reversed. . This is largely not correct. The Supreme Court do not pander to emotions and only go by facts presented to them. Hope Uzodinma produced duplicate original of the inec results from those 388 polling units while calling 28 polling unit agents as witnesses and police command attached to those PU. The PDP on their part called 1 witness and inec did not call any witnesses to lend credence to the fact that made them exclude those results. Inec did not disagree that election held but they were unable to defend their reason for excluding those polling units. And it's not correct that the Supreme Court didn't set aside the judgement of the high court. They did set aside the judgement and says the appeal has merit. Also APC didn't get 252,452 out of 252,452, that's another misinformation. APC got 213k votes from the 252k votes. It's also important to note that it was a unanimous decision by the supreme court. You can read this report by ICRI https://www.icirnigeria.org/imo-election-noteworthy-points-from-supreme-courts-full-judgment/ |
