hopefulLandlord: The biggest problem with charging him for murder is that he would go Scott free IF he's not found guilty and you can't charge him for that crime again due to Double Jeopardy law. basically if I steal your 300K and you planned to use it to pay for the medical operation of a family member who then died due to the fund being stolen by me and you charge me with murder I'd be found not guilty. here comes the interesting part, your charging me with murder and I'm not found guilty would mean you can't then turn around and charge me of theft or many other charges again because it's the same incident. its a little more complicated than that but that simplifies it
So if they charge the police with 3rd degree murder and he is found not guilty he would walk and they can't turn around and charge him for manslaughter for that same incident due to Double Jeopardy law
BlueRayDick: This is what I was saying that day. The power sector problem is multifaceted. Imagine we have Distribution companies that don't want federal government to audit them.
That was why I was saying though the FG might mean well, but Nigeria being Nigeria majority of those plans Ajuri was reeling out that day will probably not be achieved as due date.
See it happening already
It’s actually funny.
It’s actually the first time the FG wants to take in determining whether they will revoke their licenses or not.
The Discos have dragged the FG to court to stop them from conducting a forensic audit of their operations. Apparently the FG has 40% stake in those Discos.
FIRS definitely has their head in their asses. Instead of them to look for creative ways to bring those in the informal sector into the tax net, they are looking for the easy way out. There are lots of unremitted tax that they should be actively looking to get back in the coffers and not this rubbish.
airmark: Imagine the mumu evidence, an opinion from one man, which had nothing to do with financial success, used as a reason for OTHER TRIBES hating on Igbos.
Not all Igbos are zombies. I served and married from there. Just ignore those ones walking around with that wack orientation.
I served there and I met some really wonderful people there. I’ve had some really good Igbo friend also.
I’m just always surprise when I start seeing different kind of thing online about how people hates them. It’s annoying.
donjazet: Are you tone deaf or what I really don't want this discourse to digress to tribal issues. You can hear a prominent leader giving reasons for his suspicion and hatred towards his fellow tribe and you are still asking me rubbish questions! I normally regard you as a smart political analyst so better go and brush up on your political history.
Lastly, I don't hate anybody, I only used that point as a correlation to my major point.
For someone that claim to be a critical thinker, I’m sorry but your thinking process still need more enlightenment or you just pick whatever you want to pick to suit whatever agenda you want to gend.
Go back and listen to that video you posted again and then come back to explain how that translate to “Other fellow Nigerians hated Igbos”.
Let me give you a little clue, at that period Nigeria was operating a Regional system of Government. We had Ahamdu Bello - Awolowo - Okpara. Go figure.
donjazet: For instance, in the early 50s and 60s. Other fellow Nigerians hated the igbos because of their success in commerce and finance. Other tribal leaders heavily suspected and this would also eventually lead to war and their killing too but today. Such tribal hatred is limited to just pockets of individuals because such hatred with time can be healed. That is exactly same with the jews.
Ibime: That Adesina guy look like just another in a long line of well packaged intellectuals who reveal their true Naija personalities eventually. Once a CEO's conduct becomes the subject of Ethics Committee investigation and your largest shareholders are hinting they believe very serious allegations against you, it is time to resign.
Oasis007: This is too deep. I hope he has Evidence to backup his Allegations?! Hope he's not just ranting to gain Attention, perhaps popularity?!
Lai should have just sued him for defamation of character or libel and you will see how fast he will recant that poem.
Now he has given the man unnecessary attention with that arrest.
Criticize if you must, but be reasonable about it and not knowingly or “unknowingly” spread falsehood in the name of criticism and when action is taken, you start shouting freedom of speech. Freedom of speech do not give you the right or malign or defame someone.
airmark: Larride, insecurity will always make me to score you guys F.
What's the essence of infrastructures when people who should enjoy them, are killed?
It’s tiring.
They need to unbundle the Nigeria Police force. Make policing closer to the people. The way the Police is set up like this, we will keep having crisis after crisis.
No matter the fears about community police, we still have to go that route.
Sam Amadi, former chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), says the privatisation of the power sector was designed to fail.
In a series of tweets, Amadi said the privatisation process could not produce the desired results because the power assets were sold to investors who lacked the financial and technical capacity.
The sector was privatised after the unbundling of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in November 2013, as private investors took over distribution and generation firms “to ensure adequate, regular and stable supply of electricity to the consumer at a reasonable cost”.
“The power sector was designed to fail. We failed to corporatise and commercialize before privatizing; we privatize senselessly without paying attention to context and corporate governance and regulatory regime; we sold to investors who lacked capacity,” he said.
We had conducted three tariff hike before December 2015. Did any of these hikes resulting in any significant improvement in revenue or service quality? No. Why because the problem of the sector is not mainly tariff.”
Amadi argued that the challenges in the sector go beyond tariff increase, as such move would force manufacturers off the grid.
“Cost reflective is important. but excessive tariff hike is problematic because it cannot be collected and in a country with poor supply the propensity to pay is low,” he said.
When NERC conducted “Fit and Proper’ test on all the preferred bidders, only one (or none) has the requisite financial and technical competence to effectively manage the network. I took the report to the VEEPEE to argue that none of these firms are fit. VEEPEE was alarmed and set up a committee with BPE, MOP and NERC.
“We later discovered that BPE amended the TOR to reduce the threshold or financial and technical capabilities. The World Bank doubted that we could sell the discos. We surprised the World Bank and we rejoiced but we did not know we sold to ‘straw-men’.
The meeting called against me by Minister and DG BPE that I was against privatization because at the villa I advised the DG BPE that so much faith in haste privatization is not justified by theory and practice, I hate to say I have been proved right.”
eph12: The fact is that buhari government went into an agreement with a company that's not registered as a debt recovery company, neither any records of debt recovery by that company. Buhari government agreed to pay 5% which is equivalent to over 2b dollars. This happened, yes?
Okay Buhari asked that the contract be revoked but his instruction wasn't carried out for 6 months. Tell me who was sacked for this gross insubordination? Malami is still out there defending the deal o. You see why I can't talk about the past government when this is happening right now
Lol. Anything not to hold PDP and his goons responsible for their failed phcn privatization.
The fact of the matter is that Malami engaged Trobell to recover debt from IOCs based on the PS arrangement on behalf of the FG. Buhari ordered termination of the contract when he learnt that the FG will be paying Trobell a 5% commission for their job and ordered that the DPR and FIRS should do the job.
Did FG pay Trobell a dime? NO. Was the contract terminated by Buhari? Yes
But no, let’s use that as a basis not to talk about the sham privitalization done by GEJ as confirmed by the ex EC of NERC.
And I’m the party man.
Biko defend PDP with your chest, no one will beat you here.
eph12: This trobell company in question is not registered as a debt recovery company. It was reported that there's no history of debt recovery by trobell before they were contracted to recover over 50b dollars. You see the relationship?
No. They are not comparable. The issue raised was the 5% commission Malami agreed to pay the company and that’s the reason Buhari ordered for the termination of the contract.
1. The contract was signed by Malami as the Minister of Justice and Trobell International Limited. The contract came as a result of a Supreme Court consent judgement to go after those unremitted product sharing contract revenue.
2. When Buhari heard that the Malami entered a contract with Trobell to recover debt from IOC, he ordered him to terminate the contract and ask why the Department of Petroluem Service and FIRS can’t work on the debt recovery themselves. He even questioned how they arrive at the 5% commission to be paid.
Whether they are registered as a debt recovery company or not, I don’t know and I have read nothing of such.
Now back to the power issue, I wish I know how to search thread on Twitter, I will have sent you the link to the series of thread Sam Amadi, The Former Executive Chairman of NERC wrote power the privitalization of the those discos and gencos and how it will cost the FG billions of dollars to revoke their license.
Why do you think the Discos have been rejecting power sent to them, failed to issue meters to customers, non compliance to EPSRA and the likes. Do you know how many times this FG has threatened to revoke their licenses? You know why they haven’t done it till date? Because it will cost Billions of dollars to do so.
That’s the kind of power sector this admin inherited. A failed privitilization.
Now relate this with the electricity deal where they sold our discos to those who have no prerequisite knowledge of the industry and revoking their license will cost the government billions in dollars.
BlueRayDick: I watched journalists hangout on TVC earlier this evening and they discussed this power project. Honestly, whatever promise that guy is making in the video posted won't be achieved.
Those guys on journalist hangout talked about how the problem of transmission lines as old as 40 years without adequate capacity to even transmit the paltry 5,000 Megawatts the Gencos can generate. They talked about Nigeria relying solely on hydro thermal generating plants instead of different sources. They talked about Siemens not being the most suitable foreign partner, rather a company like General Electric with proven track record. They talked about a whole lot of things.
There are new transmission lines to be built, our power generating capacity to be increased etc before Nigerian power problem can be solved. I doubt this present government will be the one to solve it. If they are serious they can lay the foundation sha
eph12: What about the company that was contracted by this administration to recover stolen money or debts? Was it free for all laugh on Twitter the day it was reported that they are suing FG for revoking their contract too? Lol
Sorry o eph, do you actually understand that post you quoted?
Which company did this administration contracted to recover stolen debts? Let’s know the company name and when the FG revokes their contract?
Hold him accountable to the Timelines he reeled out, or he's simply an Ogoni Version of Lai Muhammad.
Cutting off middlemen in all this project is the game changer.
Nigeria x Germany = Siemens deals Nigeria x USA = Military hardware Nigeria x Russia = Ajaokuta steel revitalization Nigeria x China = Infrastructure Nigeria x Morocco = Fertilizers revitalization.
No more middlemen shenanigans.
Itakpe - Warri railline reconstruction to take commercial train has been completed and waiting for commissioning. Funny enough, the project will be named after Goodluck Jonathan.
It’s even that most people don’t realize most of the agriculture powerhouse are in the North. From sorghum to beans to onion, rice, yam and the likes. Even cows.
izzou: The power sector in Nigeria is messed up. Buhari just promised something that wasn't feasible
Do you know how many MoU have been signed even before 2015? I personally think one of the reasons Fashola was given that ministry was to see how some of all these agreements can be tackled and disengaged
Even if a government wants to start from the scratch, there are still agreements made that it's difficult to breach
Sam Amadi who was the Former Executive chairman of NERC said it on Twitter that those GEJ administration sold those gencos and discos didn’t have the required expertise.
It was a free for all laugh on Twitter that day.
The FG cannot even revoke their license for non performance or else they will pay billions in litigation.
Any Comment on the Clip?! We should believe in everything he said, or just take it as a Pinch of Salt?!
That’s Ajuri, Senior special Assistant to the President on new media.
I hear the President has directed Fin Min to release the 15% counterpart funding for the Siemens power deal. The more the generation and distribution infrastructure are improved upon, the more power will improve.
Asked why the officers have not reported for interrogation, the source added: “The state government has been referring to the March 23, 2007 ruling by Justice Ibrahim Nyaure Buba who granted all declarative and injunctive reliefs sought by the State Government.
“Rivers State claimed that the court order was explicit that the EFCC cannot probe the accounts of Rivers State Government and its officials. The state has remained adamant in its decision not to release the three suspects. It also claimed that it has filed a suit in court against the EFCC over the ongoing investigation.
Rogues everywhere in this nation. The judiciary is not left out.
