ojoawo: I believe we have not reached the highest state in Nollywood. The government has done a lot, though there's more to be done. Much of what's to be done is the people that buy these CD's ... If we all stop buying pirated cds and leave the government to stop the production, we'll definitely move forward. You don't tell a consumer what and what he should buy and shouldn't buy with his/her money, its the responsibility of the government to make sure that those pirated copies are non existent, if the government can't do that, then it has failed in its duty to the industry. |
Nigerian youth are not lazy, we are hardworking, look at the street hawkers, those boys and guys that runs around in hold-up selling gala and bottle water and tell me that Nigeria youth are lazy. We just need the government to do more than they are doing, lots of graduate that didn't want to engage in crime had to settle for menial job just to survive, even those that are working are being sacked and pushed into the labour market because of cost of running a business or they are folding up. Insecurity is scaring investors away. The government needs to do far more than they are currently doing. Thank You!!! |
ojoawo: Are you implying the government is aiding piracy? So who's responsibility is it to make sure that such things that curb? Nollywood is the 3rd largest movie industry in terms of movie production in the whole world yet the South Africa Movie Industry gross more money than Nollywood, if Piracy is to curb and more cinema springs up, don't you think Nollywood could even move to greater heights? |
PetroDolla2: Lagos state budget is on par with Ghana budget? what is Lagos state's budget? the last time I checked, Lagos state budget for 2013 was about $3 billion. Ghana's budget for 2013 was $16 billion. provide evidence if you have different figures.I'm sorry my good Ghanian friend, I meant to say that the Lagos State economy is on par with that of Ghana, do forgive me.taiwoliu: piracy came to being because people wanted more money than they invested. Its not because government didnt do anything, this is not the government's faultIts the government fault is they can't curb piracy. Whose responsibility is it to curb piracy, or you expect the producer to put laws into their owns and start arresting pirates? |
alutacontinua: @larride, you'll agree with me that there are menial jobs that shift people away from the realm of the unemployed to gainfully employed that dose factors you mentioned don't affect.Good observation ma, But are you saying everyone should go into tailoring? One thing we all know for certain is that the Nigerian Youth isn't lazy, I have seen graduate results to okada and keke napep riders just to make ends with, I know of a b.sc holder in my area who's source of daily bread is by being a bus conductor, during this ASUU strike, most of my friends turns their attention to acquire technical skills with that being said, all these are the indirect sector of the country and most times it doesn't elevate poverty, rather it just survives it. You want a tailor to pay his/her TAX? Since the government can't provide anything for him/her, they feel they don't owe the government anything in return. |
Justice needs to be done to this my observation!
Sir Mazi, The government might be trying but we are not feeling it at all, If you read my opening argument again, you will see where I state it that epileptic power supply is one of main reason drawing us back, the power privitalisation is still in progress and when its fully done, we can still holding those disco companies accountable, even this issue of privitalisation will create jobs once its fully actualized, that's why I said the government are the one responsible for the unemployment, if the government does its part and we have good road networks, good power supply, good communication system, effective laws and regulations then we can begin to move forward. The government might be trying but we are not feeling its impact. |
ojoawo: The environment isn't enabling and the music industry is worth over #20bn a year. That would be quite a irony don't you think? Both the music industry and Nollywood are the end product of hardworking citizens especially the Youth who took to music and acting to survive, meanwhile Nollywood is the third largest movie industry in terms of production, it doesn't even comes close to South Africa in terms of movie grossing every year. How many Cinema/Theater do we have in Nigeria? With the over 160million citizens, we only have 2 - 3 cinema all over the country while South Africa with over 50million citizens has over 10cinemas. |
ojoawo: Nigeria has the best economy in Africa. So I am a bit confused when you ask attracting more investors, when there is already the most on african soil.If we have the best economy in Africa then how come you and your partner still said the money isn't enough to accomplish all their obligation? You do agree with me then that's there's money to fund our institution, yet they fail to do so until academic calendar had to disrupted due to Assu strike, right? |
ojoawo: Did you know that almost none of this ratings was conducted on physical assessment of the universities? Are you saying that those rating are not done on physical assessment of the university I'm not even talking about other continent right now, here in Africa, what position does our best university occupies on the rating? I still stand my ground that our best university, (OAU) is not among the best top 10 university in Africa, that means there are others university in Africa that beats us hands down, for example, University of Cape Town. Lagos State budget alone is on par with Ghana budget yet unemployment is still higher than in Nigeria than Ghana. So who's kidding who? |
ojoawo: My point here is that how do you expect "the Government" to spend when they don't have the funds to do so?Are you saying we don't have money to spend? Who's fault is it to generate funds? Who's responsibility is it to enforce laws and policy to generate IGR, who's responsibility is it to enact strict laws so as to increase TAX incurable to the government purse? Who's responsibility is to guide our oil pipes and wells? Who's responsibility is it to attract investors to generate more funds? The answer is THE GOVERNMENT |
taiwoliu: true that security agents must seek intelligence, but from who? It is noone else but the citizens who live in these areas.I don't have to be out of the country yet to compare, how many of our university is rated among the best university in africa, even our best university, (OAU) is not rated among the best 10 so who are we deceiving? |
ojoawo: I am really worried if this is the question you're asking. The first step in progress is stopping to put the blame on someone else. And besides the government format we use in Nigeria is the Democracy. So what's the responsible of the government if its our duty to create an enabling government for ourselves, we can as well govern ourselves with having any government. |
taiwoliu: @larride and sapientia1: it is the duty of the government to create schools, but not responsible for how well you prepare yourself. Lecturers only give you basics, its up to you to differentiate yourself out of your pairs by going the exta mile because you and probably other thousands are taught the same thing.I beg to disagree, one of the oath of office when swearing our leaders into government house, is to protect life's and property, this year alone, the FG spends more than 900 Billion alone on security and yet insecurity is still high. The duties of securities operatives is to gather intelligence and curbs any criminal activities. How many research center are there, how do our university compare in terms of equipment and conducive learning environment and whose's responsibility are all these anomalies? |
