Damex333: you've got in there. We can call this group of sixteen grin .
There's nothing like group of sixteen grin there's a reason why its called round of sixteen and not group of sixteen, we have just 4 groups not 16 groups.

Fynestboi: we can still get what we are looking for just the way the group is... Like i once post it would A1 vs A3, A2vs A4.. Knock out, you lose you are out... Thank you.
I'm not against you doing it knock-out but you will have to do it the normal way, in knock-out there's no group, I should be able to play anyone among the other contender and not just confined to just one person from a group. This draw is flawed from the on-set, you don't do knock-out in group stage. If you wanna do knock-out, remove the group and pair each other as you deem fit maybe by a draw or so. There's no knock-out in group stage. As simple as that. Cheers.
Education › Re: Nairaland Interschool Debate. :::Planning Thread by larride(m): 4:25pm On Dec 14, 2013
What's this ish I'm hearing about there's no group stage after elimination, what happened to qualifiers? Let's take the first debate as the qualifiers to get those who were seeded and those who were not whereby we arrive by this grouping stuff. If we are not going to tackle each other in the group then the group should be abolished and should be term knock-out stage instead of group. A new draw will have to be done for that to be effective. You don't play one match in a group and expect to qualify. Its either we abide with grouping or knock-out stage. Peace.

snoopy: Why don't we have an overview showing all groups, their respective teams and the fixed matches? Having to be checking back and forth whose A1, D3, B2 etc can be a bit draining sad
Seconded!!!

Damex333: as much as i would love it. I would like to give out the conditions include: d duration of d debate will extend(might be not be conviniences 4 d debaters and judges) skul will be resuming soon, so time of debates will be adjusted.
I am indifference to it
Both the coordinators, judges and debater can definitely make this work if we want too, that school is resuming back now shouldn't be an excuse, the debate would come up on weekends on you know, not necessarily during the week. Anyway, its just my opinion and whatever the coordinators choose, we will definitely works towards that.

Rexsul: Taaaaa...i dont like dat idea ooo....u knw its gonna b xam tinzz afta ds strike...abeg no time oo..
It won't be fair to just win/lose and qualify or be eliminated, the reason why we are grouped is for us to tackle each other and the best two to qualify, if that idea isn't going to work, then it shouldn't be in group since its going to be a single debate. Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Mhyke: i dont really get the message.pls elucidate
i didn't get wat he wuz trying to pass on
I mean everyone in each group will face each other and the top two with highest accumulated point after the three matches will qualify as group winners and runners up.

Fynestboi: no its A1 VS A3, A2 VS A4....
Why not let us face each other and the top two in the group qualify as group winners and runners-up. That's really more logical since you guys have already grouped us. I want a re-match with Abu Zaria angry

First and foremost, I want to thank God for this second opportunity given to us to finally settle some scores with our dear brother/sister from ABU Zaria, I want to thank the chief coordinator, coordinators and all other esteemed audience for this re-match. I assure you that this battle will be epic.

Mhyke: those two goes hand in hand
which developed country dosnt take it's peoples right into consideration?
infact that's 1 of the qualities of a developed country
And yet things were better during the military regime compared to now. Political assassination still happens till date so that's not even an argument. Under the military regime, there's a limited freedom of speech, now in the civilian regime where we should be having full freedom of speech, you still have to watch what you see lest you get arrested. I ask you, why hasn't the civilian rule carried on from where the military guys stopped rather we are lagging behind,

maclatunji: I just was not convinced with your reasons to allow autocratic rule in place of democracy.

By the way, Mhyke would have received the highest score from me except that he kept on writing abbreviations and I had to penalise that.

ABU really got to the heart of the matter with their ASUU example and punctured UNIOSUN's "rule of law" under military government argument by letting us know that the military do not work with the constitution.
Of course, we all know that the military don't work with the constitution so that shouldn't be a criteria to judge them both. I gave example of Gaddafi who is a maximum ruler and yet achieved more than any civilian rule we have ever had in Nigeria. Its on record that things were better economically during the military regime than now the civilian regime, the only thing that works against military regime then was human rights issue but we are talking of development here and not human right issues. Overall I respect your judgment.

Nice one Mhyke. I really enjoyed the debate over the course of time and would love us to pursue this at a later time. You good brova. Keep it up. I hope we get to qualify though.
Education › Re: Nairaland Inter-school Debate:Winner:::: ABU Zaria by larride(m): 5:05pm On Dec 13, 2013
maclatunji: You guys lost this debate because you focused more on trying to prove that democracy has problems rather than convincing us that we are better-off without it. Team ABU were able to convince me to agree that although democracy has problems, we can make greater progress with it than without it.
I beg to disagree, I gave instance and prove that though autocratic has its own problems we were better off it which even Mhyke himself slightly agreed too. I'm not against the judgment because you guys gave it as you deem fit. As simple as that. Cheers.

Abu Mikey:

UNIOSUN garnered a total of 65 points, while ABU Zaria came out with 668.5 points. smiley

Nice work from the judges but i got a reservation, how come Resxul who only send in his argument and wasn't around for the debate gathered that much point when he's around to answer our counters to his argument. Its all good though. cool

maclatunji: What is the best indicator of a country's standard of living?
A standard of living is best indicated by a country poverty rate, inflation rate, quality and availability of employment.

maclatunji: Larride, what do you consider as the most important index of development in any country?
The most important index of development is a country standard of living and the poverty line since development of any country has to reflected on the lives of the populace.

The military hasn't been in power for over 14yrs, you should say that to the civilian government.

Mhyke: alryt,nothing has been done to change that yet bt does it mean we need the military to come back nd clean up their mess?
nd remember it's easier to destroy dan repair
Good!!! So in your own words after 14yrs of civilian rule, nothing has been done to upgrade or set up new refineries, that means CIVILIAN RULE HAS FAILED US in that stage. Yes we need the military to come help us upgrade our refineries and set up new ones since our civilian government can't do it. You can now see that democracy has been under-developing us?
Education › Re: Nairaland Inter-school Debate:Winner:::: ABU Zaria by larride(m): 2:41pm On Dec 13, 2013
Mhyke: For the first question,we shouldnt shift the aftermath of a military regime to the civilian. we should judge them by their actions not by that of past governments.
Secondly,if a military government were to come into power, how can we guarantee that it would be lead by 'Gadafi'?.NOT all military rulers would behave like him.
The bolded. I'm not holding the civilian regime accountable for what happened during the military era but i'm asking you why THE CIVILIAN GOVERNMENT HASN'T BEEN ABLE TO SET UP OR UPGRADE ANY OF OUR REFINERIES?
Education › Re: Nairaland Inter-school Debate:Winner:::: ABU Zaria by larride(m): 2:38pm On Dec 13, 2013
Mhyke: They were ordered to stop them to keep the orderliness.Nd the increase is just for a period of time.We should crucify the government before that time expires.nd besides,there are prices to pay for development...
Then we can also argue for the military that they are ordered to keep the orderliness, right? This also render your argument about violence null and void. Since the military are also preserving law and order
