Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Share Your First Job Experience by Lasisieniola77(m): 7:13am On Jun 25, 2022
I have done a lot oo
My first job experience was working as a cashier in a laundry house that was immediately after secondary school, they were paying me 8k that money was very big in my eyes. Later i go a teaching job in a primary school that was i did until i entered the university. During ASUU strike i went to work in Alaba market as a sales rep the salary was 20k huge in my eyes, that was i did till i graduated from the university.
Currently, doing my NYSC in one company as a social media manager and i am like it because of the experience i will get there . All the experience i have gathered over the years have really shaped my business outlook. I really find it difficult working for one business because i always think that i can be a boss of my own. I have all the necessary skills needed.
Mind i have done potatoes business and i am an online vendor.
In everything you lay your hands on, do it deligently and gain experience. Don't stay on one job for 10 years, if you don't try something different , you may never know what you enjoy doing.

Bro! Visit Upwork and search Google Ads before you continue reading my answer your question.
Those that are advising you otherwise don't have any knowledge about the job description in the second company. NYSC is not a shame design for graduate to make money, it design to carve out a career path for yourself.
Currently taking a course on content creation, Google Ads and other stuffs. If they're not going to pay you in the second company, pay them for you to stay and learn.

okay, the new development is that in mh present ppa, my Company hr called me that she felt the pay doesn't is not good that the company wants to increase my pay and also i should tell her how i am finding the job.
Anywhere, i told her that i got a better offer and there is a career path in the offer too. Immediately, she called the overall manager and she later came to me that they are going to change my job to social media manager. I said it's okay since i won't be on the laptop doing nothing.
Lasisieniola77:
Hello Nairaland,

i am a corp member recently redeployed to lagos so i got an offer to serve in a firm, so after i started the job, i noticed that i don't like the job description and there is no career progression in the job but the job has flexibility.

So i got another place in which they are into advertisement and marketing. In this new place there is a lot to learn and mind you the cost of transportation is the same to the first place and the salary is quite similar.

I don't know if i should change or i should still maintain where my current ppa. So in my ppa, the job description is to search for content and send to people who then post it on the website while the second job description is to monitor the social media of brands like how their advert is doing maybe their traffic on their social media due to the paid ads.

So i really don't know.

Thank you. The thing is that i will just sit one place and be searching for content
ZIAZI:

Guy, which one will be comfortable for you? That's what you should think of first.

I changed my PPA because I almost died from the stress on top common 10k. I had to go back to my LGI and begged for a change of PPA.

MY ADVICE IS FOR YOU TO STAY FAR AWAY FROM A PLACE THAT YOUD BE STRESSED.

No let anybody overwork you just because you're a corper.

mcdokwe:
Imlo, NYSC is too short a time to be jumping from one place to the other in the name of 'career progression' unless of course there are possibilities of retention after service.

Just like you didn't see much in your current PPA until you got in, you just may leap of the second you get grounded and find something not so desirable.

Thank you. I am currently in a dilemma of whether to change my ppa or to continue because the first place i got i don't think i can grow there while the second place has some transferable skills so i don't know
laivwire:

A mistake majority of young graduates do is to follow a fake passion dictated by their degree or first job they pick up post nysc. (Yes, all those jobs you did pre-nysc are irrelevant in my books.) when in actual fact they are to use that job role to discover themselves; their strengths, weaknesses and available opportunities they can key into.

Your job description is more important than the job title as that is what dictates the skills you learn, where you suck and where you excel. These are the transferrable skills you can hone to develop in any industry you find yourself.

We all hit roadblocks in life like Job terminations and all that but these periods are necessary as they give a hard reset that makes you reassess your career tracjectory and convince yourself of how tough your fighting spirit is. It's pretty normal and necessary.

Anyone can make money to survive but it's more important we find peace and success in whatever we find doing with our hands and brains. You've worked in different roles and industries and you will know which tasks you truly enjoyed and the ones you don't want to do again. Be true to yourself in making that choice.

Lastly, work on developing yourself in your chosen path to the best wherever you are. It doesn't matter if it's a one man business or a multinational, the salary will never meet your demands except you get so good at what you do that you can make your demands and they'll be heeded asap.

Goodluck
