Agriculture / Addressing The Challenges Of Cocoa Production In Nigeria by Laststylebender: 4:43am On Sep 06, 2023
Addressing the challenges of cocoa production in Nigeria, By Olasunkanmi Owoyemi

On a superficial level, a student who finished fourth place in a class of over 50 students has not performed poorly. However, when considering that the student who finished first place amassed over 2,000,000 points, while the student who finished fourth had only 300,000 points, does that change your assessment of the student’s performance? It should.

Nigeria may be the fourth largest producer of cocoa globally, only trailing behind Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Indonesia, but its output is still comparatively low. Ivory Coast produces 2,200,000 tonnes of cocoa beans annually, while Nigeria’s total annual output is about 340,163 tonnes.

Before the discovery of crude oil, agriculture was the mainstay of Nigeria’s economy, contributing substantially to the country’s GDP and export earnings. However, Nigeria shifted its focus to crude oil, which led to a decline in its agricultural output. Despite this decline, cocoa remains the country’s principal non-oil foreign exchange earner. The declining price of crude oil continues to provide momentum for conversations about economic diversification into sectors such as agriculture. If any segment of the agricultural industry has shown a potential to improve the country’s economy and contribute to employment generation, it is the cocoa industry. In the right position, the industry will generate more jobs for farmers and other players involved in the production value chain.

The industry, however, continues to grapple with limiting challenges, such as poor infrastructure, inadequate research and development, the lack of funding for farming startups, dearth of mechanised farming techniques, poor education of farmers, aging farmers and the lack of protection of local industries, all of which hamper its potential. To address the challenges, some of the strategies to prioritise include:

Investing in Infrastructure

The absence of quality infrastructure in Nigeria has significant detrimental effects on the country’s cocoa value chain. Poor road networks and inadequate transportation facilities greatly contribute to difficulties in transporting cocoa beans. These challenges lead to increased transportation costs that invariably affect the profit margins of farmers.

The infrastructure issue is not limited to transportation facilities alone, it also extends to poor telecommunication networks, the lack of clean drinking water, inadequate health care facilities and deficient power supply. Beyond the direct effects of this impoverished state of infrastructure on the cocoa value chain, the cumulative effects also constitute “push factors” that discourage the Nigerian youth from considering the cocoa industry as their source of livelihoods. Rather, youths are eager to migrate to urban areas, even if it would imply taking up menial and unproductive jobs that contribute little to the country’s GDP.

To address these challenges, there is need for collaboration between the government and private sector for investments in infrastructure development. Plus, rural cocoa-producing areas should receive higher priority during the execution of infrastructural development projects.

Improving Research and Development

Inadequate research and development (R&grin) is one other challenge limiting cocoa production in Nigeria. The research institutions in Nigeria are either underfunded or outdated, and this has led to a significant gap in localised knowledge and technology to improve outputs, both in quantity and quality.

To address this challenge, the government should partner with international organisations to set up new research institutes that are adequately funded and equipped with modern technologies. This collaboration would also contribute to increasing expertise in cocoa research. Additionally, the government can provide funding and other incentives for private researchers and farmers to encourage more R&grin in the sector.

Improving the Quality of Farmers’ Education

An industry can only be as prosperous as its people. Therefore, improving the quality of farmers’ education is crucial to improving the results from the Nigerian cocoa industry. Farmers need continuous access to best practices, innovative farming methods, and solutions to emerging problems like climate change, pests, and diseases.

Sadly, several farmers lack formal education which limits their capability to adopt new farming practices such as regenerative farming, and mitigate emerging problems. Similarly, due to their lack of proper literacy, the farmers are susceptible to engaging in inefficient resource management practices such as wrong fertilizer application and suboptimal farming practices. All these shortcomings ultimately have negative impacts on the quality of their cocoa outputs.

Kogi AD

To address these issues, there is the need for the establishment of training centers for farmers to learn sustainable resource management practices such as soil and water conservation, among others. Also, well-equipped agricultural extension workers should be mobilised to work closely with the farmers.

Furthermore, existing organisations working with farmers with limited literacy skills should ensure that information is presented to them in ways they can easily understand. Using visual aids, such as illustrations or videos, can help to simplify complex concepts and make them more assimilable by these farmers. The government can liaise with the cooperatives and associations of these farmers to disseminate knowledge and promote good agricultural practices.

Making funding accessible

The success of cocoa farming depends on access to funding, which enables farmers to purchase necessary inputs such as fertilisers, pesticides, and mechanized farming equipment needed to maintain their farms and improve yields. Despite the availability of various funding projects in Nigeria such as NIRSAL’s Schemes and Anchor Borrowers Programme, farmers still face challenges in accessing funding. Many farmers are unaware of the funding opportunities, and even those who are aware may not have the necessary documentation or collateral to access the loans. Additionally, the application process can be time-consuming and complicated, further deterring farmers from applying for funding.

The implication of these funding challenges is that many farmers take recourse to informal financing options which have worse terms and may not be sufficient for large scale production. To address the issue of lack of funding, there needs to be greater awareness and education among farmers about the available funding schemes. The government should collaborate with agricultural extension workers to ensure that farmers are informed about the funding opportunities and the application process. The application process should also be simplified for these farmers.

Another funding issue is the high-interest rates charged by banks and other financial institutions. This makes it challenging for farmers, especially small-scale farmers, to access funding as they may not be able to afford the high-interest rates. In addressing this challenge, the government should liaise with financial institutions to provide concessional loans to farmers. These loans could have lower interest rates and more favourable repayment terms, making them more accessible to small-scale cocoa farmers.

Protecting Local Industry

Unhealthy competition is a prevalent problem within the Nigerian cocoa industry. Foreign traders, with better funding and technology, compete against local players for market share. Expectedly, local players struggle to maintain profitability when competing against foreign players that benefit from loans with annual interest rates ranging between 2.5 per cent to 4 per cent. percent. Conversely, the indigenous players have to bear a hefty 25 per cent interest rate per annum on loans accessible to them. This stark disparity in interest rate adversely affects the income and livelihoods of thousands of small-scale farmers and traders who rely on these local players to fund their farming operations.

In addition, the foreign players are primarily concerned with buying cocoa beans from farmers. They show negligible interest in helping the small-scale farmers improve their operations. On the other hand, the indigenous players are willing to take up these responsibilities, but constraints such as the interest rates on loans limit their capacity to engage in such sustainability endeavours. Unfortunately, the effects of the unhealthy competition eventually force several local players out of the industry.

To address the challenge of unhealthy competition, the Nigerian government must enact policies that protect local players in the cocoa value chain. These policies may include regulations on foreign players operations and tariff measures to protect local players. By introducing these policies, the existing indigenous players can expand their operations while also reducing the entry barriers for new entrants.

Increasing Youth Participation in Cocoa Production

Poverty prevalence among ageing smallholder cocoa farmers in Nigeria is a discouraging factor for upcoming generations. As a result, many youths do not have an interest in farming or consider it as a viable income source.

Yet, the younger generation’s participation is crucial for the industry’s sustainability. That’s because the current population of cocoa farmers is ageing, and the youth are more inclined to innovation which would definitely improve the entire cocoa value chain in Nigeria. However, as earlier mentioned, the poor state of infrastructure in the rural cocoa-producing communities coupled with widespread poverty among the farmers continue to discourage the younger generation.

In addition, smallholder farmers often encounter numerous setbacks when scaling up their businesses and increasing their profit margin. Faced with these challenges, many youths are compelled to consider other career paths that do not involve direct engagement in cocoa production or distribution.

Addressing these problems would require implementing a comprehensive strategy which would include improving the state of infrastructure in the rural cocoa-producing areas and the economic conditions of smallholder farmers. The government should create avenues for increasing the farmers’ productivity and income by providing them with relevant financial and technical support and resources. This strategy would go a long way in improving the appeal of cocoa farming to the younger generations while also alleviating the burden of unemployment in the country.

In conclusion, the challenges of cocoa production in Nigeria may be numerous, but there are also numerous available strategies to address them. The success of these strategies requires inputs from all stakeholders, especially the government because its policies, actions and inactions have the largest impacts on the entire cocoa value chain in the country. Mitigating these challenges will go a long way to improve Nigeria’s performance on the global cocoa production scale, not just in position but also in the size of its annual outputs.

Politics / Ondo Stakeholders Unite To Attract Communal Support For Economic Growth by Laststylebender: 10:00pm On Sep 05, 2023
In a concerted effort to bolster the economic development of the Ondo Kingdom, stakeholders are rallying indigenes from around the world to contribute to the region's prosperity.

The inaugural Ondo Development and Economic Summit, organized in collaboration with the Ondo State government, was a resounding success. This summit, aptly named 'Ondo Development and Economy Summit,' was a joint endeavor aimed at complementing the economic strides of the Akeredolu administration in the Ondo Kingdom. It brought together economic and financial experts to chart a course for sustainable economic growth in the region.

Building upon the triumph of the maiden summit and the implementation of its recommendations, the Ekinvest Eki Industrial Hub was established to fulfill the summit's long-term objectives.

Dr. Femi Akinkuebi, a key stakeholder, has called upon the privileged elite of the Ondo community worldwide to collaborate with governments at all levels. This partnership aims to drive development that benefits everyone, attract more investment, and stimulate economic activities in the town.

The Eki Industrial Hub, a product of the community's economic summit, is designed to create a business-friendly environment for both local and international investors. Notably, one of its standout features is uninterrupted power supply, ensuring that industries within the hub can operate efficiently without disruptions. This reliability allows industries to focus on their operations and boost productivity.

The establishment of the Ekinvest Eki Industrial Hub also aims to foster collaboration with the state government in facilitating the development of essential infrastructure such as roads, electricity, and other critical incentives required to catalyze industrialization.

One of the Eki Industrial Hub's most vital attributes is its vast expanse of 250 acres of land, accompanied by its consistent power supply. This aspect guarantees that industries within the hub can operate without interruptions, mitigating potential losses stemming from power outages. This uninterrupted power supply empowers industries to concentrate on their operations, subsequently enhancing productivity.

Bimbo Oladapo, Chairman of Ekinvest Company Limited, echoed the sentiment that the development of the kingdom should not solely rely on the state government. He encouraged the sons and daughters of the kingdom to return home and invest in the community, emphasizing that the prosperity of the kingdom secures the future for generations to come.

Hon. Joseph Akinlaja shared a similar viewpoint, highlighting how the economic prosperity of the kingdom contributes significantly to safeguarding its future; while Dr. Nelson Osungbemiro, a distinguished and influential member of Ekinvest, emphasized the potential of Ondo community's unique assets in attracting employers and investments. He stressed that leveraging these assets is a paramount strategy for stimulating the local economy and generating communal wealth.

The Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Victor Ademefun Kiladejo, Jilo III, also lent his voice to the call for concerted efforts in driving more projects to sustain the ongoing progress in the kingdom. He emphasized that community development transcends government programs and should engage all stakeholders, including neighbors, businesses, and non-profit organizations, in taking pride and ownership of the community.

Politics / Africa Needs Home Grown Solution For Accelerated Development- Oyedele by Laststylebender: 3:43pm On Aug 20, 2022
Ifeoluwa Oyedele, the Executive Director(Networks) Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has advised African nations to fashion out home-grown solutions to their current socio-economic and political challenges.

He noted that foreign theories and strategies had failed to solve the challenges because they didn't address the issues from the grassroots.

Oyedele gave the advise yesterday while delivering a keynote address at the

2022 International Voice Achievers Award holding at the Sir Dawda Kairaba

Jawara International Conference Centre, Banjul, The Gambia.

Speaking on the theme of the award: “Building a Developed, Valued, and Respected Africa Now: A Clarion Call for

a Collective Participation by Africans for African-Led Solution,” Oyedele observed that the only way African nations could wriggle out of their challenges which they have been facing since independence is to design a domesticated strategies and solutions to the problems.

He said: "The point here is that Africa has the capacity to overcome its social, political and economic problem, and beyond the capacity to improve upon their lackluster condition, African countries can also achieve the seemingly elusive development with right strategies that take into consideration the peculiar nature of the continent and its diverse populace.

"To occupy her rightful position in the comity of nations and earn the respect of others Africa requires a home-grown solution to her many crises that have plagued many parts of the continent since independence."

Commending the organisers, Oyedele disclosed that "One of the primary aims of bringing the conference to Banjul this year is to beam the spotlight on The Gambia with a view to harnessing its huge potentials and that of the entire African Continent.

"The organisers are interested in celebrating African common heritage and exploring ways to advance the good of Africa which has been a major thematic focus of social science scholarship and concept of development since the end World War II."

The engineer noted that "Society does not progress on a mere accumulation of capital as the situation of African economies has shown; rather, it must be deployed as a tool linked with an advanced technology to raise the standard of living of the populace."

He noted that skewed allocation of role to colonies in the global division of labour by colonial master has been part of reasons "Sub-Saharan African countries have found it difficult to fix the anomalies built into the global economic structure handed down to them at independence, and the difficulty is similar to what one encounters in an attempt at building an impressive super-structure on a crooked foundation."

Oyedele, however, added that unless there is re-orientation of the masses and their active involvement in nation building as well as embracing patriotism, population control, transparency and drastic reduction in institutional and systemic corruption, lasting development would be impossible.

Politics / Ife Oyedele: African Man Of The Year Who Keeps Ascending To New Heights by Laststylebender: 4:16pm On Aug 18, 2022
Engr Ifeoluwa Oyedele may not need a new laurel to solidify his status as one of Africa's best professionals and leaders of the past decade, but adding another prestigious one wouldn't hurt.

From his primary school days when he started going home with laurels, Oyedele, who sits on the board of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) as the Executive Director (Networks), has never left anyone in doubt of his brilliance, finesse and strength of character as one of Africa's shining star.

Unsurprisingly, he's being celebrated as African Man of the Year 2022 in the faraway Gambia at the 12th edition of The Voice Africa Magazine Awards.

The award, conferred on Oyedele by The Voice Africa Magazine in the Netherlands, recognises Africans who have distinguished themselves in service to their country and continent.

Other recipients include President Adama Barrow of The Gambia, the First Lady of Sierra Leone, Fatima Bio, among many other diplomats, and political, traditional and business leaders across Africa.

Oyedele is not only receiving the prestigious award, but he was also chosen to present the keynote address at the award ceremony that will be held in The Gambia from August 18, 2022, with a focus on "Reinventing Africa's Future through Participation".

His latest continental award has also received a presidential nod from President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Buhari, in a statement by Femi Adesina, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, commends Oyedele's dedication to the development of the country through his profession, electrical engineering, and participation in democratic processes, which includes playing an active role in the merger of the APC, and achievements of the party.

For those who have been following Oyedele's trajectory, his global exploits didn't come as a surprise.

From the early days of his professional career with DAFEC Consultants, Ibadan where he acquired experience in the design, supervision and monitoring of electrical engineering projects especially rural electrification, to his stint in the Oyo State Ministry of Works & Transport and then the Office of the Oyo Governor as a pioneer staff of the Rural Electrification Unit (later known as the Directorate of Rural Development), which marked the beginning of his remarkable career in the Power Sector, Oyedele's professional career has been on a rollercoaster.

When he later transitioned into the private sector and joined other like minds to set up a private engineering company, Matcom Limited (MCL), in 1992, his fine blend of public and private sector experience has stood out in all his endeavours.

A Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and a Registered Chartered Engineer, he is equally a Fellow of the Risk Management Society of Nigeria. Oyedele has also earned the Fellowship of the Nigerian Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers (FNIEEE) as well as the Nigerian Institute of Power Engineers (FNIPE).

Since his appointment, first as Executive Director (Engineering and Technical Services) of Niger Delta Power Holding Company and later as Executive Director, Networks, a position he presently occupies, Oyedele has demonstrated a high level of dexterity and brilliance that has made his life like a book for the younger generation striving for excellence to study.

From the private to public sector and political office, Oyedele's personality as a stickler for orderliness and excellence and as an incorruptible professional has remained without blemish.

As Oyedele continues to distinguish himself as a quintessential engineer, an exemplary leader, and an altruistic philanthropist, the world is waiting to see more of his ascension to greater heights beyond the shore of Africa. We will not be surprised when t starts happening.

We celebrate the achievements of the Okitipupa-born engineer conquering the world, one step at a time!

As against the narrative which is been circulated online that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has secured a order to prosecute the Ondo State Speaker, Hon. Bamidele Oleyelogun, there's no such development like that.

The information been circulated online is nothing but distorted information which is been used to deceive the public and also malign the good image of the speaker.

What transpired in court today was that EFCC was only granted leave to file a fresh information based on the preliminary Objection filed by the defence Counsel, because the earlier information filed was done without the leave of court in line with the Practice Directory of Ondo state.

A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2022 election in Ekiti State, Kayode Ojo, has asked a Federal High Court in Abuja to declare that he is the rightful candidate of the party in the election.

Biodun Oyebanji was declared the winner of the June 18 governorship election after defeating his major opponent and candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Segun Oni.

He had since received the Certificate of Return as the governor-elect of Ekiti State.

Mr Oyebanji was elected candidate of the party in the January 27 primaries in Ado Ekiti ahead of Mr Ojo, who came second during the exercise.

Mr Ojo is, however, in court to challenge the result of the primaries, saying he was the duly elected candidate of the party.

In a suit number FHC/ABJ/C5/15/2022, and filed by his Counsel, Olaniyan Bolanle, Mr Ojo challenged what he termed “gross irregularities” during the APC gubernatorial primary election of the party.

Joined in the suit are APC, Ekiti, Biodun Oyebanji, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and all the chairmen of the local governments’ election committee/returning officers, who are known supporters of the second defendants, but were constituted to conduct the primary.

In his prayers, Mr Ojo questioned the decision of the party to conduct the primary election with the use of political appointees of the state executive as electoral committee/ returning officers. He said it constituted an irregularity and fundamental non-compliance with the party guidelines regulating the conduct of the said party primaries, the Electoral Act.
He equally prayed the court to set aside the party gubernatorial primary conducted on January 27 on the grounds of the constitutional infraction and flagrant infringement on guidelines and the 1999 constitution and ordering the conduct of a fresh primary by the party.

Another prayer by the plaintiff is the cancellation of the votes irregularly and fraudulently recorded for Mr Oyebanji during the primary on the ground that the governor-elect had run foul of the provisions of the APC constitution and the guidelines regulating the conduct of the party primaries.

He urged the court to declare him (Kayode Ojo) as the winner of the primary being the candidate with the next highest declared votes.

The plaintiff also sought an order of injunction restraining the INEC from recognising Mr Oyebanji as the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the 2022 Ekiti State gubernatorial election and restraining him or any other persons or authorities or government as the candidate for the APC for the Ekiti State gubernatorial election conducted in June 2022.

The case, was, however, transferred to a federal high court in Ado-Ekiti before Justice Babs Kuewunmi.

While being led in evidence by the lead counsel, Alex Izinyon, on Friday, the plaintiff along with one other witness gave their testimony and was cross-examined by the defence.

Although he had closed his case, the proceedings suffered a hitch as the defence failed to open its case due to lack of preparation.

The defence counsel, Kareem Akingbolu, in the circumstance applied for an extension of time for him to file his defence.

Mr Izinyon told the court that he was opposed to the application by the defence for an extension.

He argued that since the order of the court to publish the writ of summons was carried out on March 21, the defence ought to have filed their reply within 30 days which lapsed on April 21.

Mr Izinyon asked for a leave of the court to reply formally to the application made by the defence for an extension of time.

The case was then adjourned till July 25 for the continuation of the trial.

by Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo

While some men attain greatness, others are born with it. The speaker of the 9th Nigerian House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila is one which is naturally etched for greatness.

His existence is one which has continued to tell the amazing story of a man who is a blessing to humanity in many ways. Born about six decades ago, he epitomizes a star of high intellect and a repository of knowledge.

He is just like a fine wine who gets better with age. As a shrewd Lawmaker, a quinte politician and as a patriotic nation builder, we have all continued to thrive under his able leadership.

The numbers of the bills which has been passed under your able leadership at the Green Chamber are ones which has continued to transform Nigeria for the better.

Your dedication to nation building as well as the entrenchment of democratic principles which goes as far back to 1999 is worthy of commendation.

The recent emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress which you greatly fought for will continue to place you on the good side of our nation's history.

He is an exceptional achiever whose legacies will forever remain evergreen. I am truly proud of him.

I'm not in doubt that there's still more so much you have to offer our dear nation and the younger generation behind you.

I celebrate an amazing mentor, leader and the indefatigable speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Femi Gbajabiamila.

Politics / Tinubu's Unsung Dependable Allies by Laststylebender: 9:33am On Jun 21, 2022
Talk about one political leader in Nigeria who has huge followership, it would be impossible to ignore the name Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Talk of one grassroots leader who has produced very vibrant players on the political scene over the last 20 years or so and Tinubu’s name will again pop up.

However it's also impossible to mention his name without making reference to certain individuals who have over the decades made themselves life long allies and acquaintance of BAT.

Prominent among them is Cardinal Odunmbaku who is popularly known as Baba Eto.

A good and loyal ally to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, one of those who can be trusted any time, any where to do the bidding of Tinubu. In a society where political betrayal is fast becoming a norm, Baba Eto has not only honored his calling as a man of God but also as a dependable ally.

Most importantly, Cardinal Odunmbaku enjoys an extremely cordial relationship with the national leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the Jargaban of Borgu, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. The robust relationship of Cardinal Odunmbaku with the former governor of Lagos State has clearly helped in promoting and projecting Baba Eto to a place of prominence in Lagos politics.

As a matter of fact, the relationship between Cardinal Odunmbaku and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been confirmed to have pre-dated the emergence of the latter as Lagos State governor in 1999. In the run-up to the election, Odunmbaku was appointed the state chairman of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Campaign Organisation (BATCO) which has metamorphosed into what is today known as the “The Mandate Group.” Interestingly, Baba Eto still remains the chairman of the  group till today.

He has been actively involved in the mobilization of support groups for BAT, it would be recalled that he was a major driving force used by President Muhammadu Buhari when he was looking for the political support of the Jagaban of Borgu which would eventually led to the birth of the APC

Jagaban himself would go on to describe him as a true and loyal friend who has defined his name as true progressive and who has cemented his place in the pages of history as a good elder stateman

Politics / Accolades As Akinfolarin Commissions Primary Schools by Laststylebender: 8:27am On Jun 18, 2022
The bedrock of service for a true born and bred individual especially among the Yoruba cosmology is one which is built on honor.

The joy and ultimate satisfaction for individuals within this setting is that they may be found honorable and worthy to be called true sons and daughters of the soil.

Hence they tailor their actions and service to the path of wisdom and honor, one which they hold on to irrespective of the situation.

When Hon. Mayowa Akinfolarin lost his bid to pursue his reelection ambition in the party's just concluded primaries, many had thought that Akinfolarin would have neglected the needs and interest of the people, choosing to pursue his own personal interest.

Instead he has chosen to embrace the path of honor, making that bold decision to honor his mandate till the end.

Recently the Federal Lawmaker recently commissioned primary schools in Oke-Igbo and Otu Costain Communities.

The lawmaker representing Ile-Oluji Oke-Igbo/Odigbo Federal Constituency commissioned the 12 blocks of classrooms with 20(W/C) toilet facility and furniture materials at St. Andrews Anglican Primary School Oke-Igbo and Army Children Primary School, Otu Costain, Odigbo LGA.

Akinfolarin during his speech reiterated his commitment to driving growth and development to the federal constituency irrespective of the situation or condition.

According to him, he explained that he has a standing pact with the people, one which he would honor till the very last moment.

This singular act by Akinfolarin is one which speaks the tale of man worthy to be praised and commended. He has shown despite the odds that his focus and priority is for the people.

With men like him holding the fort in our various public offices, our reality would be better than what it is
Politics / 3 Years Anniversary: The Sterling Achievements Of A Tunji-ojo by Laststylebender: 8:16am On Jun 18, 2022
The primary objectives of elected public officers is to provide to the electorates the much needed dividends of democracy as they promised when seeking the mandate of the people.

Rep. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo came with just one purpose when he sought the mandate of the people, as a man considered a greenhorn when it comes to politics, all he had to give the people was a promissory note, one given with confidence and all sincerity that he would put the interest of the people first.

The people in their wisdom accepted him, gave him the mandate and three years later, we are witnessing a beautiful story of good representation and adequate leadership.

To the utmost surprise of many, he has heralded achievements which are best described as unprecedented performance and records among his people.

The illustrious son of the Oke-Agbe Akoko is rewritting history by giving the people a new lease of life, one which is filled with boundless opportunities for social wealth creation.

Representing the Akoko North East/North West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Tunji-Ojo chairs the House Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

As a dynamic, youthful and extremely creative entrepreneur and development expert, he became the Chief Executive Officer of an indigenous ICT onsulting company at 24.

His emergence as the people’s choice more than three years ago was a demonstration of the people’s love for the lawmaker.

For a Federal Constituency which has nothing to show for its democratic gains, Rep Tunji-Ojo came with a blue print, one which is fueled by his passion to make a difference for himself and his community at large

Going by the normative understanding of what a well brought up and nurtured individual, who, in every sense, can be referred to as Omoluabi, Rep. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo comes with qualities which endears many to him.

Under his continual representation, Rep Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, positively transformed the Federal Constituency for good, doing the unprecedented for the overall growth and development of the people

Tunji-Ojo has written his name on the sand of time as an achiever who laid a solid foundation of excellence through the rebuilding mission of the current administration.

At the Green Chamber, he recorded his first major win as Chairman of first-time lawmakers. He mobilised other first-timers and was on the frontline leading the campaign drive for the election of Rt. Hon Femi Gbajabiamila as Speaker of the House of Representatives.

As Chairman House Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), BTO chaired the Committee that unearthed the can of worms and corruption that has bedeviled the NDDC and crippled development in the Niger Delta region in about two decades.

Domestically at his constituency, tangible achievements abound. He has made grants and financial assistance available to market traders in Akoko North East/North West Federal Constituency.

There have also been more positive trends. Before 2019, all major roads in Akokoland, which are major routes for travelers going to Abuja, were in a deplorable state. The state of the roads almost halted economic activities in the area, it became difficult for farmers to transport their produces to the markets in Ondo state and other parts of the country, leading to wastage.

To put an end to wastage and make economic activities thrive, BTO facilitated the construction of Owatumise road to Ugbe Akoko, Oyinmo road in Ikare Akoko, Akunnu-Ajowa road, Federal Technical road, Ikare, completion of Uku/Akungba road to Civil Defence office, Inland Road At Ikare – Ugbe Akoko, Okeagbe Akoko Road, Odeiyare Road Ikare, Ase Akoko Road, Irun Akoko Road, and other ongoing road projects like the Agbo-Okela Road to Oscars road, Afin Akok, Ogbagi Akoko Road To Irun Akoko, Ogbagi Akoko Main Town Road, among many others.

He vowed to create an environment for education to thrive in Akoko North East/North West. In doing this, he has donated educational materials to all public secondary schools in his constituency and facilitated the construction of modern classrooms in public schools to make learning conducive. BTO is also recently gave scholarship to the fatherless undergraduate from Ajowa, and he has been committed to the payment of indigent students’ school fees. For those yet to be admitted into any institution of learning, the quintessential lawmaker has so far obtained and distributed more than 1000 JAMB forms and enrolled hundreds of students in computer training.

Without leaving anyone behind, about 6000 youth had been empowered with skills to become their own boss while a new skill acquisition center has been approved for Ogbagi Akoko.

BTO donated 500KV transformer to NTA Ilepa Ikare-Akoko as part of efforts to boost information and communication for the local constituents.

When COVID-19 pandemic hit Nigeria in 2020 and led to a lockdown, BTO donated food items to all communities in his constituency.

There have also been broadly positive contributions to healthcare.

Tunji-Ojo donated 14 ambulances to all the health centers in his constituency for quick response to any health challenges. Beyond the ambulances, public hospitals in his constituency were also equipped with multimillion naira modern health equipment courtesy of BTO.

In his response to the spate of insecurity that has made Akoko highways a hotbed for bandits and kidnappers, BTO donated patrol vehicles to security operates to aid their prompt response to emergency and distress calls.

In all of these, the place of traditional institutions has not been neglected. BTO acknowledges the roles of traditional institutions in the development journey of any community and to appreciate their roles, he donated two 18-seater buses to the council of traditional rulers in each of the local government areas in his constituency.

Akoko is his home, and it is not surprising to see some of his legislative footprints in other parts of Akoko outside his constituency.

Through his legislative influence, BTO facilitated the rehabilitation of some roads in Akungba, the community hosting the Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA) in Akoko South East/South West Federal Constituency.

While we have an endless list of the sterling achievements of Rep. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the people of Akoko North/East North West will no doubt take the greatest pleasure of having made the right choice three years ago, a choice they have made known that they would be willing to make again come 2023.

His victory at the Primary Election of the All Progressives Congress election is a pointer to what to come. The primary election result saw him clinching the election with a perfect votes, as he gained the total votes of all the delegates while his opponent got none.

This victory makes it obvious and clearer that the people knows what they want and they are united with their collective decision to consolidate on their democratic wins by ensuring the continuity of the BTO led representation

Politics / Kuku Wins Again At Court Of Appeal, Abuja. by Laststylebender: 5:52am On Jun 15, 2022
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja today 14/6/2022 upheld a judgement of the FCT high court delivered in 2017 awarding 10M naira damages against an Abuja based newspaper, Abuja Inquirer and its publisher for a defamatory and libelous publication against Dr Kingsley Kuku , former Special Adviser to former president Goodluck Jonathan who was also the Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty programme.

In a judgement delivered on Tuesday 14th June, 2022, the appellate court dismissed the appeal filed by the newspaper seeking to upturn the decision of the FCT High Court which awarded 10. Million naira for it's defamatory publication in August 2015 wherein they published that Hon Kingsley Kuku fled Nigeria after being declared wanted by the EFCC.

Reacting to the judgment at the premises of the Court, Counsel to Dr Kingsley Kuku, Solomon TUNYAN hailed the Appellate Court decision and stated that the judgment will serve as a lesson to those who have chosen the path of making libelous publication against innocent people just to tarnish their hard earned reputation. He maintained that Hon Kingsley Kuku is a man who brought so much peace and stability to the Niger Delta of this country thereby bringing peace to the region. Apart from upholding the judgment the Court of Appeal equally dismissed the appeal as lacking in merit and awarded fifty thousand naira cost against the appellant.

MHR Ilaje Edo 2023: Why Myson Adeyemi Nejo is the right candidate

Recent realities in Nigeria have driven home the need for members of the electorate to ensure that they put the right pegs in the right holes. Our decades of having a democratic system has offered us little in terms of democratic gains and dividends and if there's any moment to change this narrative, the time is now.

For the people of Ilaje Edo Federal Constituency, time and opportunity have smiled on them, right in thsir midst stands a candidate who has what it takes to lead a formidable representation that will breed for them a new lease of life.

One who has the undisputed commitment and drive to harness their commonwealth for a better reality. While they have had little to show for their democratic experience, they have a man who has presented himself a worthy candidate to hold the mandate of the people at the House of Representatives come 2023.

Myson Adeyemi Nejo Esq, born into the family of Akinneyin, a notable Royal Family from Ode Mahin in Ilaje Local Government area of Ondo State, Nigeria. A true son of the soil who over the years has remained true to his roots, always identifying with them, contributing his quota to development of the community.

An erudite lawyer by profession, one which he has used on numerous occasions to fight for social justice in the nation. It would be recalled that himself alongside other state Politicians were solidly behind Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.SAN during the time of his trials and Court hearings at the Election tribunal and Supreme Court, Abuja.

Asides this, he holds a rich history of community service and advocate of humanitarian service.

Myson, has supported and birth several projects for the betterment of his constituency and nation. In 2016, he dragged the Ondo State Government and OSOPADEC to court over Non-Compliance with the Freedom of Information Act(FOIA)2011.

A case filed against OSOPADEC was for refusing to grant information on capital projects in Ilaje and Ese Odo which has been the corner stone of this blessed Federal Constitucency problems and he won the case.

A lover of justice, Myson stormed Court of Appeal Abuja, on November 1, 2016 where Jimoh and Jegede matter was heard. He stoop up and appeared before the court as Amicus Curea.

In 2019, Myson alongside with two other lawyers dragged Ondo State School Authorities to court over the incresment in school fee.He also pushed before the house for establishment of Tertiary Trust Fund for indigent Students of Ondo state.

While the aforementioned are but a few of his sterling profile as a true progressives, he seeks the support of the people as he aspires to represent the Constituency at the House of Representatives under the platform of the ADC.

If there's anything which he has meatballs over the years, it is his passion to drive growth and development for his people and he believes that much can be done if given the opportunity to represent the people at the House of Representatives come 2023.

It's high time we give our support and vote to a candidate who we have rest assured will deliver, he has a good track record and a name which speaks credibility and suitability.

He comes with a valid blueprint which can help change the narrative for the better for his people, all he needs is the collective will and support of the people even as he presents himself a worthy man to represent them.

History will always be kind to us when we make the right decisions, Myson Adeyemi Nejo holds all it takes to take Ilaje Edo Constituency to the next level.

Hon. Isaacs Kekemeke: The Man who rode on the right side of history

The stage is set, the battle has been won, and the victory song for supporters and faithfuls of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is loud and clear .

If there's anything which the emergence of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2023 presidential election tells us, it tells the tale of a man who took his destiny into his hands, raising a formidable structure who helped him defied the odds to his becoming.

The victory might be his, one which is very deserving, nonetheless, history will always be kind of certain individuals who stayed and fought till the victory was achieved.

When others made themselves foxes in the vineyard, when others played played the crafty old tortoise, they stood behind Asiwaju Bola Ahmed silently working for a victory which the whole south west and the nation at large would later take great pleasure in.

Hon. Isaacs Kekemeke, National Vice -Chairman South West of the All Progressives Congress has created for himself a politician who is dependable and worthy to be relied upon.

While we appreciate many great figures who were very instrumental to ensuring the victory of the Jagaban of Borgu, we must not ignore his contributions and noble sacrifices. Barely half a year into office as the Vice -Chairman South West of the APC, he has brilliantly justified his importance to the party and the southwest region.

While it's understood that politics comes with so many tricks and flicks, the former ACN chairman in Ondo State rose to the occasion to build a brick wall, a huge support system for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Even when certain individuals would want to take the activities of the party solely for themselves, he lead others to do the needful, ensuring that the Yorubas are not left out or outplayed in the Party.

His allegiance to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is unquestionable, his support is undoubtable and we owe it to people like him who made it possible for the South West to be able to successfully present a candidate for the presidency.

We are rest assured that providence will always smile on men like them for when history were to be made, they were found on the right side

Politics / Bola Tinubu And Mischief Makers by Laststylebender: 10:49am On Jun 06, 2022
For the Nigerian populace, the 2023 general elections is all about getting a candidate who fits their requirements to lead the nation, fixing and managing its numerous challenges, uniting its federating units.

However for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, popularly known as the Jagaban of Borgu, his aspiration to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari is one which has no doubt come with its various challenges and complications.

For a truth, we must acknowledge the fact that the aspiration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is one which no doubt has generated a nation wide support across the 36 states of the federation.

His credibility for the position of the presidency is one which has never been questioned, his legacies and achievements over the years is one which has defined his trajectory into the nation's political setting is one which has ranked him as one of the nation's foremost political icon.

They say it is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf that the Jagaban of Borgu, who has campaigned in more states than all the presidential aspirants in the APC is the man to beat. However, it's obvious that certain figures have continued to deliberately place certain obstacles on his way.

However as they would always say, uneasy is the path way that leads to success, Tinubu might be known and wildly respected for his political dexterity, sagacity and wits, one which popularly cemented his name and person as one of the most established and brilliant political icon of the modern day Nigeria, but then his aspiration has been met with so many turbulence.

The unending political orchestration of his political opponents is one which has continued to drive many narratives against him, many of which do not represent what his aspiration stands for or what his dream for a better Nigeria means.

Ordinarily, the political aspiration of politicians should be that of them and the electorate, however for Tinubu,it one which has placed him at loggerheads with certain individuals who feel that his aspiration or a presidency led by him would spell doom for him.

As a true gentleman that he is, he has continued to serve the Interest of the party and that of Nigerians, raising men of substance and value in the process. However we must also acknowledge the fact that he is also human hence a natural feature for him to raise his eyes brows when pushed to the wall.

The unwholesome orchestration of political marabout has seen them making an attempt to poison the minds of Nigerians against Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Recent days has seen them use the utterances of Tinubu against him. The most recent is his statement in Abeokuta which has continued to generate various reactions from members of the public

These mischiefs all coming out to paint a picture of a man who is entitled and thinks that the presidency is his birth right.

Those who accuse the Jagaban of having a sense of entitlement, forget that he wasn’t talking to the country. He was addressing his party men (and women), reminding them of how much he has sacrificed for the party. He reminded them that but for his sacrifice, Buhari wouldn’t have achieved his ambition

As a human being, it is natural for Tinubu to expect the Presidency not to be antagonistic to his ambition, even if they would not support him
Thrice Buhari tried to be Nigeria’s President. Thrice he failed until Tinubu went to him and the rest, as they say, is history.

But the mischief makers would conveniently forget the man’s role in the attainment and sustenance of democracy in Nigeria.

The mischief makers forget the roles which he has played for the sustenance of the Nation's democratic processes and system

He formed the Acton Congress; he formed the Action Congress of Nigeria, to democratise the political party space and ensure the plurality of opinions in the country.

To demonstrate his selflessness, he gave the presidential ticket of the parties to northerners: first Atiku Abubakar and later, Nuhu Ribadu.

Thanks to the Jagaban, he retrieved through the courts the stolen mandates of Governors Segun Mimiko in Ondo State; Kayode Fayemi in Ekiti State; Adams Oshiomhole in Edo State and Rauf Aregbesola in Osun State.

He achieved this by flying into the country, one Adrian Forty, probably the world’s best forensic evidence expert. Of course, at his expense.

So, if the man says he has paid his dues and insists he deserves the presidential ticket of the party he helped form, is that asking for too much?

The mischief makers would always continue to their job, but then, whoever will eat the honey in a rock does not worry about the edge of the axe.

Tinubu has not proven his mettle in the nation's politics by running away, he understands what needs to be done and he has made his resolutions known never to step down until the job is done.
