An aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress for Abia Central Senatorial District for the 2023 elections, Hon. Kelvin Ugboajah, is dead.

The Ugboajah was a former Executive Chairman of Ikwuano Local Government Area of the state and also ran for the House of Representatives seat for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency seat on the platform of the APC during the 2019 general election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission in Abia State.

Until his sudden demise, he also doubled as a member of the Board of Council, Obafemi Awolowo Federal Teaching Hospital, Osun State in South West Nigeria.

Meanwhile, reacting to the death, the Action Democratic Party House of Representatives candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency of Abia State for the 2023 general election, Chief Paul Meregini, expressed sadness.

In a condolence message issued to newsmen on Tuesday in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, Chief Meregini, recalled his political relationship with the deceased.

He described Ugboaja as a patriot, genuine political leader and committed democrat who, during his era as Chairman of Ikwuano LGA, demonstrated uncommon leadership that undoubtedly fostered great number of economic and infrastructural amenities, which visibly brought development to most length and breadth of the local council area.

The APC says the opposition party went to the make-believe industry to fetch a deputy.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos has reacted to the nomination of popular actress, Funke Akindele as the running mate to Dr. Abdulaziz Olajide Adediran aka Jandor, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos.

In a statement on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, the party’s spokesperson, Seye Oladejo said the choice of Akindele as a deputy governorship candidate “underscores the unseriousness of Lagos state PDP.”

Oladejo said the opposition party did not only present a former APC member as its governorship candidate but also “went to the make-believe industry to fetch a deputy.”

He said, “This amounts to trivializing the importance of the forthcoming gubernatorial elections by giving political neophytes who have absolutely nothing to bring to the table their electoral tickets.

“It also shows lack of depth in the party as regards quality members to put forward for elections if they could give a member who crossed-carpeted a few days before their primaries the governorship ticket and now went to the make-believe industry to fetch a deputy.

“The reason for voters’ apathy is, undoubtedly, due to lack of credible alternatives by the moribund opposition party.

“I was amused to read that the deputy governorship candidate said she was suspending her acting career for the elections whose result is highly predictable. I guess she’s suspending a lot more because she has been in the news of recent for all the wrong reasons.

“Lagosians will certainly not allow governance to be turned to a needless experiment or a sitcom. Governance is serious business not a circus”.

He, however, congratulated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat in advance of the 2023 governorship election.

The Presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Friday gave reasons why he picked Dr. Yusuf Baba-Ahmed as his running mate for the 2023 presidency.

Obi, at a news conference in Abuja, with the theme “Journey to Nigeria’s Rebirth Begins Today,” said he chose Baba-Ahmed because he is eminently qualified.

“I have the honour to present to you somebody I can call a friend, a younger brother and God willing the next vice president of Nigeria in the name of Sen. Yusuf Baba-Ahmed .

“He has been described as one of the brightest, youngest personalities in Nigeria who has distinguished himself in all areas.

“He brings to this mission a great wealth of experience from the background on the private sector to public sector and a global knowledge that will help in a journey of turning around this country.

“Today, our country is facing so many challenges which I don’t want to mention because we are just here to introduce our Vice Presidential candidate.

“I will not be doing a great service to the country if I don’t mention some of them , we are today the poverty capital of the world.

“We are today, hugely indebted; people are hungry and angry and all these are the cumulation of bad leadership,” Obi said.


Obi added that the party would bring all Nigerians into a big tent where everybody would be involved in ending the primitive politics of ethnicity, religion and all sorts of things.

He said that the party would have a team of people who would join in building the Nigeria they desired and hope in the country .

“The two of us with the same background will be able to start this process. Now that we have completed the cycle of nominations, we will soon in the next few days or more, be able to come out with policies and manifestos that would be anchored on the 17 SDG positions.

“This is because we must rescue this country, ensure that this country is secured; this country is united and this country is productive.”

Obi said the party would transform the vast lands in the north to oil, adding that land was the equivalent asset and it would be engaged agriculturally.

He said the country would be transformed and it would be productive again, leveraging on the knowledge of the two candidates from the private sector.

“It is not just going to be two of us, it is not our election but your election. Those who tell you about structures, tell them your children, your family; you are the structures. They cannot continue to scare us with those words.

“We will take back our country and even convert them into the structures, their structures will be our structures, they will follow us,” he said.
