Exactly. And that is why the problem persist.

According to them, if the fulanis are killed, they should simply bury their dead and continue from there?

And when they go for reprisal, it becomes a serious issue. Just scroll up and see the comments above.
Am surprised at this. sad Who started the killing spree? Was it not the Fulanis? huh Because they claimed their cows had been stolen? And the security agencies looked the other way? Didn't the Fulani killing spree continue for years, until the indigenes of the Middle belt now decided that attack is the best form of defence? So the Middle belt communities that have been simply burying their dead for years, crying painfully and looking for salvation which never came from the security agencies, before deciding to arm themselves, are now the evil ones? shocked

I see two lies that extinguishes any attempt to take this write up seriously. One is that 300 fulani communities were wiped out on the Mambilla Plateau in taraba. With the sparse population on the Mambilla and plenty other tribes on the Plateau, how fulani alone have 300 communities is highly likely untrue.

The second is the 2 million cows story. That one needs no debunking. The figure has debunked itself
Don't mind the dullards. sad They think that those they are talking to, did not go to school. What is the population of Fulanis in the whole of Taraba, that they would have 300 community settlements? Don't those settlements have names? Yeye people! angry

2 million cows these guys can lie. The that would be 10% of the total cattle population. Why are you guys in Taraba when open grazing was banned their anyway. The police should solve the rustling and murders that happened obviously.

Herdsmen are most neglected on what sense. The anti open grazing law is to primate ranching. Go to the 34 other states where it's legal or start a ranch. You don't have fundamental right to herd cattle.

The militias popes up after the killing. People will protect themselves. The government failed to and this organization didn't speak up when herdsmen were on murder spree.
Don't mind them! angry How can Fulani herdsmen lose 1,000 people in Taraba, and the main towns in that state would not be razed to the ground? Fulani?? shocked They do not forget an insult, or any bad deed done against them! And where did the 2 million cows that were stolen, disappear to? huh Into thin air? Thanks for refreshing our memories with these.
You just made my day.

Back then NTA was very watchable not necessarily because of the content but by virtue of the packaging. The presenters were top notch.
How we lost all that quality is saddening.

I remember looking forward to watching John Momoh on the Saturday News at9.

Sigh.

Thank you all the same. I really do appreciate this trip down memory lane.
Yes, o! shocked The first time I heard Frank Olize speaking on NTA, I thought he was singing! cheesy Funmi Odubekun was a glamour girl. Unlike now, when continuity announcers and news presenters especially on private TV stations are something else. They cannot decide what accent to adopt, and they find it so easy to murder Nigerian names. For some of them, their accent starts out as a British one, which changes halfway to an American one, and then ends up as a mangled mix of both. angry

This is an unsubstantiated statement. Nobody knows the genesis of the herdsmen-farmer clashes in the country as it is not something that started yesterday. Fulani's are also routinely killed and their cattle rustled by middle belt criminal gangs, this also is not a recent occurrence
Guy, do you live in the Middle Belt? huh The Fulanis were the first to start the killings, because their cattle got rustled. It started years ago. They value their cows more than human lives. When the initial set of killings launched by the Fulani herdsmen were reported, nothing was done by the security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book. They got emboldened and continued their killing spree. When the indigenes of the Middle Belt saw that security agencies were powerless to enforce law and order, the indigenes decided to start defending their communities against the intruders, and armed themselves to do so. The Fulani forgot that the freedom to swing their arms, ends where the nose of their host tribe, begins! angry

As a Fulani herdsman, if your cows are rustled, is that an excuse to set whole communities on fire, and kill women and innocent children into the bargain? Each time, such communities have been razed to the ground in the Middle Belt, how many of the herdsmen have been arrested in conjunction with such crimes? huh Their impunity bred the crises you see today.

Does she know the kind of message she is sending to other young women of the Christian faith, who may be caught in a similar situation?

She does not even know the risk she is running. If the Muslim militants see her, they can easily abduct her thinking she is one of them, or they might ask her to recite the Quran. If she fails that test, what happens?

A better option would have been to hide somewhere safe until tensions died down, before making her escape.

First of all, the girl was in a private university, which means her parents were financially comfortable. Private university fees no be beans. cheesy

Secondly, they both had access to phones, so they could communicate. Yet, he undertook an 8-hour journey every weekend to see her. Why? shocked Did she ask him to do so? No? So, you can see where lie number 1 starts from. undecided
Too much close marking or forced attention, can make a woman feel stifled.

Thirdly, he was buying provisions for the girl and her siblings. Did she ask him to do so? Why didn't he cut his coat according to his cloth? It is obvious he wanted to pretend and show he was a high-flier. What a pity. sad

Fourthly, he spent 50% of his salary on her and drank garri. Another big fat lie. First, there is nowhere it is written, that the girl asked him to spend 50% of his income on her. The girl's parents could afford to send her to a private uni. So does he think they could not afford to give her pocket money? Then why on earth was he spending 50% of his salary on her?? shocked

After spending half of his pay on her, he was now drinking garri. Who asked him to make such a sacrifice? Certainly not the girl.

Fifth, the girl's parents had enough money to send her abroad, which means one thing. This guy didn't belong in their class, but he was spending all his money and trying to pose as if he did. And that is where his pain lies. He spent his time, money and energy trying to prove to the girl and her folks that he belonged in their class, or he was rich enough to take care of the girl. That is where he lost it.

If he was my younger brother, I would flog him
. Don't try to keep up appearances, or imitate the Jones's. Just give only what you can afford to give, as a man. Give an amount that will not hurt you financially or emotionally. Period. That way, you can walk away with no hard feelings if things do not work out. undecided

Look how bad he felt, because he borrowed 650k to throw a graduation party for her - something she did not even beg him to do! Only small immature boys do such things. Real men who work hard for their money, do not spend cash they cannot afford on frivolities. sad

The girl fell out of love with him, because he was obviously trying so hard to be what he wasn't, and she eventually saw through his act. Not only that, her trip abroad exposed her to different people and a different lifestyle, so her perspective of their relationship changed. sad

If in fact this story took place, the guy should be thankful to God, that she decided to opt out, and let him know her decision to discontinue the relationship. Some girls would start dating someone else on the side, without even first breaking up with you.

There must have been signs, which he refused to see. Next time, he would be more careful, and know what to do, if actually such a thing ever happens, again.
PoliticsRe: Are Hausa And Fulani The Same People? by laudate: 3:13am On Jan 14, 2018
cheikh:
@pechhamboi
The Fulani in Nigeria are powerful and assertive because they conquered the peaceful agrarian indigenes(Hausa) speaking people. Nowadays there is not much difference between the two inherently different ethnic groups.

Islam is a religion they share and have in common, since the conquest and pacification of the North, by the Fulani led jihad of Uthman Dan Fodio. The Hausa are generally peaceful and tolerant, hence it was relatively easy for the minority Fulani to over throw their leaders, and install Fulani leadership or Chiefs in place of indigenous Hausa leadership.

Polygamy is prevalent in pre-conquest Africa, but Islam in the sahel region also gave it added legitimacy everywhere, in consonant with traditional African customs, in Hausa land. The Fulani being typically monogamous, is because of their traditional life style- pastorial/nomadism. It is also cheaper and mobile for them to be monogamous, not because they are more disciplined or not.

Fulani are vengeful and unforgiving, because they can afford to be so, amongst very tolerant, peaceful and laid back agrarian neighbours. They are not actually very aggressive nor domineering in other places in West Africa, as they are in Northern Nigeria.

I think that the overall peaceful nature of other Nigerians have been construed as laziness or cowardice by the Fula, and it raises the mystic of the so called brave fulani in the Nigerian sphere, quite unlike other places where they are looked down on, or even discriminated against.

I blame the middle-belt farmers for being unreasonably tolerant and fearful in their own land/farmlands being trespassed and destroyed by roaming fulani herdsmen. Physically, they are slim built or willowy and vary in complexion depending on which country they come from.

The Hausa language is also spoken by the Fulani and majority indigenes. It is only natural that it is so, the fulani are the minority ethnic group.

The Fulani are from somewhere else north west, and West of Nigeria - Guinea, Niger, Mali and other places in West Africa. You can actually discern their origin/ethnicity from some of their names quite distinct from the Hausa.

The eating or food habits of the Fulani depending on where they come from, are quite distinct from typical indigenous Hausa eating habits/taste. The Fulani are predominantly business/trading people(nomads) whereas the Hausa are also traders and Farmers(sedentary).

Their mode of dressing and embroidery, jewellery etc are quite different from the Hausa. There are more differences between the two groups.

Inter-marriages have gone a long way in neutralising some very distinct differences between them culturally and physically, hence the constant annoying "Hausa/Fulani" terminology by other Nigerians, to group them together as if they are one and the same, but for Islam(religion) for the majority of them.

There are Christians amongst the two groups especially amongst the indigenous Hausa. There are animists/ traditional religion amongst them too.

The two are grouped together because since the Fulani war their histories have been largely intertwined within Nigeria, they are two different tribes but they have co-existed between each other through religion, generations of intermarriage and language..nowadays is very hard to differentiate them apart,if not impossible, that's why u often see hausa/fulani..thats one thing I'm yet to figure out myself, whether in hausa or fulani
Their languages are very different! angry Someone gave a graphic description of the Fulani on NL a few years back. Here it is:

Fulaman198:
Tooroobe are native to Senegal, what are you saying. They are named after Fouta Tooro which comprises both Senegal and Mauritania.

We Fulani in Nigeria have numerous clans more than 20. Like the Kesu'en, Mbororo'en, Etc etc. The Toroobe (like Baaba Maal) are numerous and mainly today exist in Fouta Tooro as fishermen.

We are West African, we are not Ethiopians nor Syrians (that's even more ridiculous). We lived and inhabited North West Africa and have been in the West African region for a minimum of 10,000 years.

Yes, Jennifer Iwenjiora is now known as Jammila Atiku-Abubakar. Abike Dabiri was a correspondent on Newsline, then she took over from Frank Olize as anchor of the show.
Thanks, bro.' You are a goldmine of valuable information. Someone should actually do a documentary on NTA and its broadcasters, for posterity. Too many of them have left the system, and no one knows where they are anymore.

That was a list of newscasters on the network news. I was composing a list of correspondents and people who anchored other news shows.

People like Lola Ogunbambi, Maudlyn Park (Newsline before Chris Anyanwu took over the show), Mathews Otalike, Sele Eradiri, Jennifer Iwenjiora, Godfrey Odu, etc.

(Have you seen my list of continuity announcers on Channel 5?)
No, I haven't seen your list. Please post the link to your list here, or tag me when it is completed. cheesy Even Abike Dabiri was on NTA too, wasn't she?? And Jennifer Iwenjiora was said to have married former VP Atiku Abubakar?

In 1989 Cyril Stober got married to Winifred Efunsheke Merriman-Johnson. She was a duty continuity announcer on NTA 2 Channel 5. I remember how Patrick Oke and Yinka Craig teased Cyril Stober about her.

Yinka Craig and Patrick Oke presented Newsline in 1989 and they often introduced Cyril Stober as "Cyril, Your Reach Out, Stober" (NTA 2 Channel 5's nickname was "Your Reach Out Station" ).

Efunsheke Merriman- Johnson now lives in London.
Are they now divorced? Is that why he is marrying Elizabeth Banu? huh

you are absolutely right, infact one of the problems of Nigeria is majority of Nigerians don't read the constitution . Nigerians always thought legislature duties is to build bridges, schools, road and provide them with water. Instead of making laws
You obviously have not read the constitution either. sad As a legislator, her duty is to demand accountability from those who are expected to construct that bridge or that road. If money has been voted for its construction, then she should ask the authorities why the money voted for the bridge, has not been spent constructing the bridge or the road. shocked

If money has not been voted for the bridge or road construction, then it is her duty to bring the poor state of that route to the notice of the relevant govt authorities, and push them to make provisions or appropriations in the budget, to cover the cost of building that bridge. It doesnt stop there. She also needs to press further to ensure it is completed, after the funds for construction are released. As a legislator, she is the voice of her constituents, or her people! sad

She was not elected to go to Abuja and build a house for herself, but to go there and bring the plight of her people to public attention. Her job is to pass bills that would benefit the citizens of this country. undecided

There are too many abandoned projects everywhere, which shows that legislators (just like the relevant govt authorities), have abdicated their role, in acting as checks and balances, upon the executive. They need to investigate such projects, debate it, and ensure that the executive does the right thing in getting them completed.

9 brutally honest, gripping quotes from Benue people to Police IG Idris / ByStaff Writer / Published on January 13, 2018

On the instructions of President Buhari, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris was in Benue State to maintain peace and order after the brutal killings of about 80 people from Benue state including two mobile policemen.

As part of his activities, Idris held a stakeholder meeting with the government and other stakeholders in Makurdi, the state capital.

The stakeholders spoke freely, but the sense of anguish, rage and pain was palpable. We bring you some of the 9 most striking quotes from the event.

Chief Edward Ujege, president of Mdzough U Tiv
“Mr IGP sir, until you explain what you meant by “Communal clashes” we are not going to trust you. And these questions have occupied our hearts since your arrival to the state. Do you have a heart to fight these people? Are you not compromised already?

Help us convey these words to the president, while insurgency erupted in the east the president ordered for a special military unit called Operation Python Dance. We also demand for a special military operation in Benue. I may be speaking rubbish but it’s because the person who seems to be our shield has abandoned us.

We want you to tell us what you mean by the attacks on Benue are communal clash. Do you have the liver to arrest the leadership of Miyetti Allah? We have made allegations and told you where this attackers are housed. Do you have the liver to investigate? In Rivers, Abia and other states, we have Python dance, can we have a dance here?“

Rev. Father Solomon Mfa
“First I want to appreciate the president for sending you to Benue. I have been a priest in the most affected local government for 13 years, I have also been severally attacked myself.

The president has made several intelligent appointments but who are those heading the security agencies? (The Fulanis). When Yusuf Buhari, son to our president had an accident, our president was devastated, here in Benue our ‘Yusufs’ have been slaughtered.”

“I am not talking 2019, we have to be alive to be there. Mr IG, Beg Mr President, he is the president of every Nigerian, not just the president of the Fulanis.”

Kwaghnum Terrence
“IGP, your presence in Benue is an insult to our sensibilities. Your DIG operations told us on Television that the terrain is complex to you, are you now coming to clear the terrain?

We have this crisis because you refused to adhere to the global terrorism index, which rates Fulani herdsmen as the 4th deadliest terror group in the world. We need the military presence here in Benue State because this is a genocide.

The president was in Zamfara when the herdsmen attacked the state, he constituted a military taskforce to protect the north west. We are not in a communal war with anybody like u said unless we are fighting with your village. We in Benue need ranching as the only way forward. And the herdsmen must be declared a terrorist organisation, and the leadership of Miyetti Allah must be arrested.

If the elders can not tell you the truth, the youths will tell you the truth. What we need in Benue is the presence of he army.
The government is refusing to tag this people as a terrorist group, the Fulani herdsmen are the fourth most deadly group in the world, your presence here is an insult from Mr President.

I also want you to know that Audu Ogbe at 74, is not representing us but his family.“

Prof James Ayatse, Tor Tiv
“I want to welcome you to our state. On the controversy about your stop over at Nasarawa, I want to believe that your stop over was to commune with the Tiv people over there. It is not about the law, It is about an agenda. There was no law when we were attacked in the past”

“We are promising to cooperate with you, we will however wait to see your modus operandi. It’s not difficult to detect a genuine project. Be informed that in our silence we also have a God that can rise up and defend us.”

Prof Daniel Saror
“I have been to those affected areas, these people are not looking for grass to feed their cattle, their mandate is to kill and take over. If they were looking for grass they won’t carry arms with Islamic inscriptions on them.

Sir don’t let us be fooled into thinking that you are here to protect us, the federal government should also join us in creating ranches all over Nigeria. Colonies and grazing reserves won’t work.

Creation of grazing reserve is an evil plan. How do we sleep with people carrying sophisticated arms? Ranching is the only way out for us. Sir, the president sent you to Benue and you couldn’t drive straight, you had to stop over at Nasarawa state? Why? We have lost confidence in your ability to protect us.“

Chief Mrs. Apedzan
“Fulanis are more than IPOB, they are more than Boko Haram. The Federal government sent operation crocodile in the east to flush out Biafra agitators, please send us at least operation lizard sir.”

Justice Utsaha
“Just yesterday, my village was attacked, my house was burnt down. Permit me to speak on the word integrity.

When you were to be appointed, so many senior ranking officers were sacked on the belief that you have integrity, do we believe on this, or we should say all that glitters is not gold? We voted overwhelmingly for Mr President, is he saying all that glitters is not gold?

Is it an offence that we have refused to hit back?

Tell Mr President that his integrity is in question. Inform Mr President that by 2019 we are going to vote against him overwhelmingly.“

Chief Adanyi "I want to start by asking this question, is the Governor of Nasarawa state a friend or a foe? Nasarawa state has become a camping ground for our enemies, Commissioner of Police Nasarawa state, what have you been doing?

IGP sir, are you here to ridicule us, if not you must arrest all the culprits before you leave.

Even yesterday, the leader of Miyetti Allah said on the television that our anti grazing law in Benue is impracticable.

Now that you are here, go to these affected areas and see things for yourself.

Last year when Agatu was affected and the Fulanis ran to Nasarawa state, the Benue state assembly member from Agatu reported to your office, (then you were Commissioner from Nasarawa state.) You said until you received information from the headquarters, today you are in the headquarters. IGP, in clear terms, you are not doing enough."

Josephine Habba
“Sir, if the Nigerian Police can not protect us, we will exercise our constitutional right by defending ourselves. Tell Mr President that since he can not come to Benue to sympathize with us, he should forget the idea of coming here for campaigns by 2019”

Governor Samuel Ortom
“You have confirmed that you saw my letters, warning of the threats from herdsmen, but said you have not seen those of the speaker.

I advice you, overhaul your secretariat.”

Fulani Herdsmen: 3 Religious Leaders That Have Condemned Recent Benue Killings

Nigerians have repeatedly accused the Buhari government of poor handling of attacks by herdsmen across the country.

But with the recent Benue State massacre, it appears the criticisms are rising to a disturbing climax as three prominent religious leaders have lend their voice against the herders perpetuating the crimes.

They are:

1. Rev. Dr. Felix Omobude

The National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, on Sunday, expressed concern at the lacklustre approach of security agencies in bringing persons behind the crises to book.

2. Pastor Enoch Adeboye

General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), also condemned the killings.

Represented by his aide, Pastor Johnson Odesola, during a church service at RCCG headquarters, Ebute-Metta, Lagos, the cleric said he was puzzled by “the silence of the government as regards various attacks by Fulani herdsmen.”

3. Pastor Tunde Bakare

The Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly had earlier in the service said that all those putting up deliberate sinful silence (DSS) about the killings in Benue would pay for it.

His words: “We cannot keep quiet while hardened murderers and criminals fill our land with the crimes of blood. That would be DSS… deliberate sinful silence, and i think secret service is guilty of that.”

“The brutal murder going on in Benue state and other parts of Nigeria is very attrocious and wicked. There will be consequences of this dastard murder. Every one involved in one way or the other, either overtly or covertly, shall pay for it” http://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/fulani-herdsmen-3-religious-leaders-that-have-condemned-recent-benue-killings.280229/
Christian leaders have condemned the Fulani killer herdsmen. Even Pastor Paul Enenche of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Abuja and Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Ministries/ Winner's Chapel, have condemned the attacks in the strongest terms, and urged God to avenge the blood of those that were killed.

This is just a makeshift pako over a gutter, and not a bridge. Even by my house on Johnson Omorinre, Lekki there are two of these kind of "bridges" that cross over the huge gutter at Durosimmi Etti.
Abeg, stop it! cheesy Why are you referring to the interior parts of Lekki Phase 1 like this? At least, Omorinre Johnson and other parts of that area have tarred roads, don't they? grin

I just hope so. Thanks bro. What can I do. In all these my parents are not aware. It's just my elder siblings. There are saying they will resolve the issue (which is sending the girl away) without the knowledge of our parents. I am afraid of letting my mother aware because I don't want her to think too much. She over take things serious. The only person that will understand is my dad but they don't have regard for him. My immediate elder sister is also on my side. This issue is really eating me deep. Imagine them that the pregnancy won't work. That even if she birth 10 kids for me she won't be welcome.
Why do they hate her so much? Has she offended them before? Did they catch her with another man? Has she had children outside wedlock before?

Please don't get worked up by their negative words. Just tell your father about it, so that at least he has a good knowledge of what is going on. Try to get your dad on your side.

Then you and your elder sister as well as your pastor and any elderly family friends, can go and beg the parents of the girl, and promise to take care of her. After that go to the registry, and move in with your wife.

Just work hard to take care of her and the baby, and do not ask your family for a penny. Pray to God for mercy and favour, and ask Him to uplift you. You will see how God will resolve the situation to favour you.
