seborrhic: Simple something. Provide security for both anti and pro toll gate opening protesters, don't allow them interract or if they do only at shouting distances, and it's a win win for government, protesters and sponsored anti protesters. But no. It's not however, unexpected.A government that allows crowds to gather for a so called NIN registration in the midst of a second wave of covid 19,is not expected to do any better. Gbam!! You have said it all. Some of those cursing the protesters that showed up today at Lekki Toll Gate were busy hailing Black Lives Matter Movement in US,a few months back. Total hypocrites!! |

uuzba: Ehen, and you get the power from where? --- Average cars use Lead Acid 12 Volt batteries. The battery turns the kick starter (a small electric motor) to start the engine and then does nothing. The alternator provides the rest of the electrical power for any electronics in the car and the sparkplugs. The petrol engine does all the work. - Any Electric vehicle, having no petrol engine, have just the battery and a big electric motor. Lead Acid battery will be too big and too heavy. So they use same type that is used in your phone, Lithiuim-ion. Lithium ion is lighter and smaller and can discharge to the electric motor longer.
But it is extremely expensive. And you still have to charge it IN YOUR HOUSE, with NEPA and Generator, for 8 hours, because there is no electric charging filling stations in this country.
You didn't make the car, you didn't make the battery, you didn't make the charging station. You just imported another expensive gadget into the country.
So what have you gained? God bless you for educating the clueless, my brother. When you break it down like this, and try to get them to understand that the infrastructure in our city is unsuitable for things like this, the cretins start to make noise. Some even insult you. I pray that God enlightens their minds..... The first thing is to fix our infrastructure first, before bringing in all these stuff. I know people who brought in hybrid cars about 5 years ago. Many of them were later abandoned, after the large electric batteries developed problems, and needed to be replaced. Each of those specialised batteries, cost almost one million naira back then. Today, whenever people talk about EV, I just laugh. When we still have areas that cannot boast of 8 hours of light each day? There is even a greater environmental problem caused by mining for uranium and lithium, that has started rearing its' ugly head. But EV makers are suppressing the stories, because they don't want controversy. Also, those sites are in Africa so who cares?? |

seanet02: Please don't speak with much confidence you seem to have half knowledge about. What Lagos state bought back was the LCC. LCC was initially owned by Lagos. The reason for buying back the place is to ensure Lagos owns the LCC after the end of the loan repayment. And do not say nobody knows how much has been collected; more than two human rights lawyers have written to Lagos to the ministry of finance on the issue and were replied on its status. There is nothing to hide about; even Lagos state house of assembly once did same. I have not posted in nairaland for long, I only replied you because you are a very reasonable and respectable person. There is no anomaly anywhere Don't bring reasonable and respectable into it, of you want to be sarcastic and condescending. No need. Just address the main issue. Lagos State bought back the concession in 2013. So they own the Toll Gate now. Yes or No?? The same Lagos State reconstructed Oshodi, built a flyover at Agege, upgraded the old Lagos-Abeokuta highway all through and did NOT put a Toll Gate at any of those places. Why?? Didn't they need to recoup the money spent there? But in Lekki, they added one lane to either side of the Lekki-Epe expressway built by Jakande and decided to add a Toll Gate. A Toll Gate that had put billions in their pocket and that of their landlord in Bourdillon. And instead of letting the panel complete it's work, the same Lagos State and its evil agency called LCC, is fighting to reopen a Toll Gate it should have abolished long ago. Mtcheew! |

OneTemplate: You're the sad one and a cretin. Why don't you show your parents did not waste money on your education by starting a different thread to address your concerns over accountability?
The point I make which you should address, if you have adult sense and know how to comment pertinently on the issue at hand, is that the vote went against those who do not want Lekki tollgate handed over to LCC. Even Segalink voted to return the tollgate to LCC.
Those in the losing camp should respect that vote and stop creating all irrelevant side issues, as you do here, to justify their lawless nature. They can and should go to court to challenge the decision.
This is why one cannot ever determine what an argument is originally about between two people in Nigeria. By the time a crowd join they would have turned the original single argument into about 50 side issues. It is a problem with Nigerians and an obsession of each to push their own angle and agenda rather than stick to the specific problem under discussion. When people like you lack objective valid points to support their argument, you resort to insults! Typical. Empty barrels who make noise like you litter the online space. So because others who voted to open the Toll Gate were more than those who voted against it, you now think they were right? What drives their motives? Did you bother to check? So many of you people keep voting for illogicality over sense. So it is not surprising to see this. People voted Trump. They also voted PMB. We can all see the results of their vote. So because Segalink voted in favour of opening the Toll Gate, you feel he was right? The same Sega that has done everything to scuttle teh #EndSARS movement? Chai! May God give you enlightenment even if He doesn't give you wisdom. |

OneTemplate: Guy, grow up and start showing maturity. One of the qualities of an adult is the ability to make decisions that is in the interest of what is best for all.
A representative panel was constituted over the Lekki tollgate saga to include youths representatives. The decision to handover the tollgate to LCC was put to the vote.
Those who wanted the tollgate handed over to LCC won 5 to 4. As an adult you must learn to abide by democratic decisions which is the will of the majority even if you dont agree with choices made. You can't chose which decisions to accept or reject merely to suit your sentimental and immature approach to life.
Also, proper adults understand it is important to separate issues so we can see things clearly. Justice for victims has nothing to do with whether the tollgate is opened or remains shut.
It is about establishing culpability , if any, and bringing wrongdoers to book. I am sorry to say but you Nigerian youths are very disappointing. You can't think critically , you dont appear to have the intellectual 'robustness' your peers worldwide do and you can never see all sides of the coin let alone have the ability to be fair to all. LCC (Lagos concession company) shot no one.
The tollgate was legally and contractually conceded to them under a BOT deal. Some of us live in adult worlds where we understand we must respect contracts and legal obligations and not be emotional about every single thing.
Anyone not happy about the transparent votes that handed the tollgate to LCC , when names of those who voted and how they voted was announced publicly, should go to court as the article advised. Only lawless anarchists will be protesting at the tollgate when other Avenues exist to seek redress for whatever decisions they are unhappy with. The same concession of Lekki-Epe Toll Gate and expressway, that Lagos State Government bought back in 2013 and paid off all the bills associated with it?? Or is it the Lekki-Ikoyi toll bridge that was constructed entirely with tax payers money?? You people sabi defend rubbbish, shá. Not one penny has even been accounted for, by Lagos State Government, when it comes to daily collections at that Toll Gate. Nobody knows how much is collected. Nobody knows how much is expended. It is a bottomless pit of funds that LASG turns over regularly for the personal use of a few politicians. And yet, you are supporting this anomaly? Chai!! How sad. |

plaindealer: We know the toll gate is part of the LASG's IGR base just like the Lekki Ikoyi bridge, they generate billions every year and you must know that the next road, bridge, hospital or any state government program or social services you enjoy if you are a Lagosian is funded with funds from state infrastructures like the toll gate.
That toll gate is where many Lagosians go to work everyway, it feeds a lot of Lagosians, many Lagosians pay school fees, put food on the table and pay rent with paychecks from that toll gate.
PCHN was a federal issue with nothing to do with LASG in anyway, find a better and logical analogy. Nfora: Thank you Segalink.
Stupidity is when you think depriving other innocent people and family their source of livelihood, will bring justice to the victims of brutality. Nah!! Stuvpidity is when you use the military to deprive people of their lives, and health by instructing soldiers to shoot them, while they are unarmed and sitting down.... Stuvpidity is when your governor lies about it, goes on CNN to pretend, and then turns round to see up a panel that fails to give justice, to the victims of that shooting. May everything that happened to those protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate that night, happen to you too. |

The problems (traffic and others) you highlighted above are not enough reasons why tolling shouldn't return The wheel of governance must be run Salaries must be paid Roads must be maintained Development must be sustained
You should be talking about how the problem of traffic can be resolved See, there are too many issues that have NOT been resolved. That Toll Gate cannot be opened now. Who gave the order for the soldiers to fire that night? Nobody knows. What was paid to the family of those who were killed at the Toll Gate? Nothing. What compensation was given to those who were shot and treated at hospitals? Zero. Which battalion was sanctioned for unleashing bullets, on poor unarmed Nigerians at that Toll Gate? None! Justice has NOT been served, sir. Yet these government guys and LCC are scrambling to open that Toll Gate? What is the brand name of their hypocrisy? May they suffer the same fate, that befell those innocent protesters, at the Toll Gate that dark October night on 20-10-2020!

Most people clamoring for it's outright scrap are not lagosians and they should focus on thier respective states No well meaning Lagosians supports the return of that Toll Gate. None! The Toll Gate is a harbinger of traffic! Since it has been empty, there has been free flow of traffic on the road. Ask anyone familiar with that route. Secondly, till today nobody knows who gave that order to fire upon defenceless unarmed youth at that Toll Gate, who were only demonstrating for the right to live, and NOT be ginned down by SARS. Thirdly, all those injured by bullets and even those killed, have they been paid compensation or given any apology by this government??. Till today, some people are still looking for the relations, friends and we'll wishes that were at that Toll Gate who have been .issuing since that night. Were they part of the bodies taken away by the military? Instead of sorting all that out, they are jumping up to reopen the Toll Gate. The blood of those who died and whose blood was shed at that Toll Gate is on the heads of LCC,LASG and those advocating for it's reopening! |
