I don't care what people will say of my suggestion, I will give it anyway.

If all you said is true and you have not wedded yet, then CALL OFF the wedding asap or at least delay it until you can get her to understand the place of your family in your life.

Women tire me o. She expects you to now hate and avoid people you have known all your life for someone that is just coming into your life now? Pls I beg you, don't marry her no matter how far you have gone before now or how much you have spent. Otherwise you will regret it and you will cry a lot. If your family were bad, it will be a different ball game.

I am telling you from experience. My wife, for no just cause has vowed never to relate with my siblings and my mum. She hates them, she deleted their numbers from her phone. She said she will never pick their calls if she knows they are the ones calling. And if she picks her call & it is any of my family members, she will cut the call. And she specifically added that my mum is included. She vowed she will never allow any of them into our house. Now if you are in my position, what will do - especially as she is the extremely stubborn type? The situation causes me terrible pain.

Meanwhile I cherish all her siblings and her Mum.

Bros I am begging you don't marry her or at least delay the church wedding until she gets some sense. If you must marry her, get a written and video commitment from her that she will love and respect all members of your family the same way she loves and respects her family as long as your family don't do her any serious harm (in any case you won't allow your family hurt your wife). If she refuses to make the commitment or she does so halfheartedly, call of the wedding. I am just trying to spare a brother a lifetime of pain. Believe me you don't want the pain and confusion which among other things will affect your work/job/business or whatever you do. I don talk my own
What will I do? shocked Report her antics to her family and ask them to advise her to change. Watch her over a period of a few months, to check if she has adjusted her behaviour. If there is no improvement, bros' abeg I will divorce her, sharp-sharp! Life is too short to be miserable. sad

By the way how old is she, and what exactly did your family do to her? huh In what way did they offend her? Abeg, delete her from your marital status if she does not adjust her attitude. My old teacher used to say: "Oyinbo man wey do pencil, na im create eraser, too...!"

1949 GENEVA CONVENTIONS ARTICLE 3, "YOUR STATUS CHANGES ONCE YOU START WEARING AN ARMY UNIFORM, FOR YOU BECOME AN ENEMY COMBATANT:". A RECOGNIZED ARMY (THE NIGERIAN ARMY, IN THIS CASE) CAN USE FORCE TO NEUTRALIZE YOU AND YOUR FELLOW MILITANTS.
Oga, that is NOT what Article 3 of the 1949 Geneva Convention says. undecided It is Article 51 sub-section 3 of Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions relating to the Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflicts (Protocol I), 8 June 1977 that says; "3. Civilians shall enjoy the protection afforded by this Section, unless and for such time as they take a direct part in hostilities." Article 13(3) of Additional Protocol II, also confirms this. A civilian loses the right to protection, once he engages in hostilities against the armed forces in a conflict. Rule 6 of International Humanitarian Law also reinforces this aspect.

Any woman who truly loves a man, would care about the same issues he cares for. A wise woman tries to build acceptance and understanding for herself among her in-laws, not tear down their relationship, by creating problems that do not need to exist. sad She already harbours so much resentment against her in-laws in her heart. I read the scenario the OP painted in the later post. From what he wrote, all I can adduce from that is the wife has some sort of inferiority complex.

A little of what transpired between us two days ago. In one of the people we want to use for our wedding, the person she recommended charge a huge amount of money which I can not pay, then I contacted my sisters to look for other person's we can use lo and behold they found people with a big difference in price variations so I decide to settle with the ones my sister recommended hence they will render same quality of services. Immediately I told her the latest, she started grumbling and saying that my sisters are controlling me that they can't come to her own family and decides what happens, I was shocked to hear that again after I caution her some months back for using this same language. My brethren 400k and 280k are they same thing? This is just a tip of her yelling about my sisters. My sisters don't know about this oh now, as am writing now my elder sister called me now and was telling me to make sure that I give My wife money to select a good wedding gown . They even told me last time that I should make sure I buy car for her before she born her first child to lessen the stress of her carrying a child in Keke or bike or Taxi. What do we call this?

Thanks brother. From your questions, no encounter at all between her and my family members she just hate to hear me talking with them on phone. Good morning wonderful nairalanders.

I Am having a very delicate family issues now. I am an only son of my family and 5 sisters all married, since I brought my wife to be to them they all love her with passion and they keep telling me to take good care of the girl, they keep warning me not to treat her bad.

My sister love my Wife with passion including my aged mother but my wife to be in return hates them openly to me.

She doesn't like me mention them before her or discuss any thing with them. But she adores her family so much. We have finished traditional marriage remaining church wedding which is next two weeks from today.

During our preparations my family has noticed her long mute with them in issues of our wedding arrangement, they ask me but I told them that my wife is a shy type that doesn't talk too much but I was lying.

N/B they have not done anything evil to her and they will not think about it because they all fear me but my confusion Now is why my wife hates them? One of my sister lives in the same city with my wife but she hardly visits her.

My fellow comrades please what do I do? I can't hate my sisters because they and their husbands train me in the university . I came from a poor home but seeing the love I have for education all My sisters and their husbands swear that I must attend university . My God's grace I am working in one of the best organization in the country now am comfortable. Do I chase my family away now because of a woman I am getting married to? Help am confused.

Thanks in anticipation

Kindly show me a video or evidence that the said group attacked the military before the said convention would take effect.

Do you know why the American government initially denied selling arms to Nigeria, because of bad history of the Nigerian army mistreating innocent civilians?

The front page contains a thread were Nigerian army forced the same group inside a dirty water, please from the analysis of the video those group were inside a bus travelling, so how come they were treated that way. In your reasoning, they attacked the soldiers on the road.

Op, I don't think your wife hates your family. No, it hasn't gotten there yet.

I have a boyfriend whose family, especially mother has to vet most of his decisions and I can tell you its not very pleasant especially as I'm a very private human being.

So I believe its the same thing here. Now, I'm not saying anyone is wrong here. You are married now, so you shouldn't expect your wife to react the same way you/your family would in any circumstance. She is a person with different opinions too. You've lived as bachelor since but that has got to change. For example, that issue about wedding plans, you should have told her about the two prices and given her reasons why 'you' want to go for the one you want. Only a mad woman will refuse to accept your choice. But no! You made the decision without consulting her. Even I would be angry!
What are you telling her? That her opinion doesn't matter? Well, I guess it wasn't intentional.
But like I said, act like a married man now.

And I also feel your sisters should give your and Mrs a break for a while. I know they love you and in their eyes you're still their 'lil' brother. Try to show them that's changed now respectably.

It would also be nice to discuss this with your wife.....
Good luck in your marriage!
Madam, you did not read through the entire thread before coming to this conclusion. sad Please endeavour to do so. undecided

All the things you said are thrash

1. First learn what the word army means

ar·my
ˈärmē/Submit
noun
an organized military force equipped for fighting on land.
"the two armies were in position"

Are those men armed?

2. learn what secessionist means

se·ces·sion·ist
səˈseSH(ə)nəst/Submit
noun
1.
a person who favors formal withdrawal from membership of a federation or body, especially a political state.
"an ardent secessionist"
adjective
1.
favoring formal withdrawal from membership of a federation or body, especially a political state.
"the leader of a secessionist movement"

Its not a crime what they are doing.

3. You were so fast to call USA, let me ask you do you know that California and Texas wants an independent country, how many times have you seen the US government sending troops to those areas.

What the Nigerian government is doing is 19th centuary barbaric thinking which will backfire against them.
Did you even take time out to read and understand what he wrote up there? huh From his findings, any civilian that fights against the army or attacks it, is treated as a combatant and punished as one! Civilians lose their right to protection once they engage the army, in a fight. Please read up the Geneva Conventions and the International Law of Armed Conflict including the additional protocols. If you throw stones, bottles or harmful objects at the army, it can be interpreted as an attack. undecided
Politics › Re: See Why The United Nations Will Not Interfere in this IPOB issue by laudate:
NASTYNASOSO:
You can't send police officers to quench a quasi-military camp, which is maintained by Nnamdi Kanu, who has aggressively vowed to tear apart a sovereign nation, Nigeria. Kanu made a serious mistake by parading a ragtag army; especially when you have a former General as the president, that was disrespectful.

I lived in Nigeria for more than two decades, Nigerian soldiers don't like to be disrespected; in fact, from working with soldiers in the United States (Michigan National Guard, Joint Forces Headquarters), I can tell you that, generally, soldiers don't like to be disrespected.

If someone, a civilian for that matter, maintains and parades militants (wearing a military uniform), he should not expect the government to roll in with police officers and patrol vans; he should reasonably expect army tanks.

Pursuant to the 1949 Geneva Conventions Article 3, your status changes once you start wearing an army uniform, for you have become an enemy combatant: A recognized army (the Nigerian Army, in this case) can use force to neutralize you and your fellow militants.
Let’s gaze into history here: When the 1791 "Whiskey Rebellion" happened in the United States, spearheaded by some civilians, President George Washington did not send in police officers, he brought in military tanks to quench the rebellion.

In the United States, when violence escalates, a governor, pursuant to Title 32 of the United States Code, can summon the army and their tanks to the street (didn’t you watch CNN at the height of the “Black Lives Matter movement;” didn’t you see numerous armoured personnel carrier (APC) on the street)?

Let's stop pretentiously invoking the violation of the rule of law, especially if you don't understand the rule of law and the rule of engagement. A military incursion, or rolling of tanks, into a street, in order to clear the illusion of outlaws, like Nnamdi and his cohorts, is not a violation of the rule of law, but an enforcement of the rule of law.

If Kanu is scared of a small deployment of soldiers, will he chicken out when battalions are deployed? To his supporters, we told you this: secession is not won on Facebook. Continue arguing about the violation of the rule. Listen, when hostility begins, the rule of law is suspended or amended. I hope we won't get there. Start listening.
Thanks for your post. sad Even though I agree with most of the points you raised, I however disagree with your interpretation of Article 3 of the 1949 Geneva Convention. Article 3 merely compels both sides in an armed conflict (which is not an international one) to observe basic humanitarian laws. It talks about how both parties to a conflict, should ensure that non-combatants (and even ex-combatants) are treated in a humane manner. undecided Some scholars have however argued that Article 3 has a lot of limitations:

In fact, the common article 3 does not deny state’s right to take action against armed rebellion. In the view of Tom Farer, the following acts may be interpreted, as not amounting to violation of article 3:

(i) Although torture is prohibited, nothing in article 3 prevents the rebellions being hung for treason.
(ii) Civilians who inhabit areas where insurgents are active, are also subject to forms of detention normally garbed in euphemistic vestments, such as “relocation centers” or “fortified hamlets”, with respect to which article 3 contains no specific safeguards.

(iii) Civilians may also be compelled by the rebellions to serve in effect as slave labourers, and subjected to the process of conflict.

(iv) There is no reference in the Convention prohibiting the requisition / destruction of food and other essential goods, with a view to prevent them from falling into the hands of other party. http://www.commonlii.org/in/journals/ISILYBIHRL/2001/11.html
I believe Rule 6 of International humanitarian law in conjunction with Article 51(3) of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions of 1949, (i.e. Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflicts (Protocol I), 8 June 1977) is more in consonance with the thoughts you wanted to express. Rule 6 states that 'Civilians are protected against attack, unless and for such time as they take a direct part in hostilities.' There are some other rules and protocols that also address this aspect.

Pursuant to Article 13(3) of Additional Protocol II, civilians are immune from direct attack “unless and for such time as they take a direct part in hostilities”. In addition, this rule is set forth in other instruments pertaining also to non-international armed conflicts.

The rule that civilians are not protected against attack when they take a direct part in hostilities, is included in many military manuals which are applicable in (or have been applied in) non-international armed conflicts.

In the case concerning the events at La Tablada in Argentina, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights held that civilians who directly take part in fighting, whether singly or as members of a group, thereby become legitimate military targets but only for such time as they actively participate in combat. https://ihl-databases.icrc.org/customary-ihl/eng/docs/v1_rul_rule6

Maybe it is because the Nigeria army knows this that they went on a rampage in Baga when some of their men were killed. In retribution for the killing, the army simply leveled the town, shooting indiscriminately, burning and pillaging. At the end of the killing orgy, scores of innocent men, women and children lay dead and over 2,000 homes destroyed. In Baga, as in Nasarawa, not even the usually worthless government commission of inquiry, was constituted to at least pretend a level of concern. In both cases, parties took the laws into their hands, knowing that that would be the end of the matter. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/jul/09/nigeria-forgives-police-killers
Even in the case of Ombatse, the leaders of the militia in that area ended up being killed by the army.

Troops deployed to contain the violent communal clashes in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have killed the leader of the Ombatse militia group, who allegedly led the attack that claimed over 30 lives in some communities in the area, a police source told The PUNCH on Monday.

The body of the militant leader whose name could not be ascertained as at the time of this report, and three other assailants were said to have been deposited at an undisclosed hospital in Lafia, the state capital.

The deceased was said to have been killed when he went to demand for the release of his men that were detained by the police.

Three Ombatse militants who were on the same mission with the slain leader were said to have been apprehended by the police and detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia.

Scores of warring Eggon and Alago youths were also arrested by the police and detained at the state command headquarters. http://www.nigerianmonitor.com/nigerian-army-kill-ombatse-leader-arrest-others-in-nasarawa/
And with respect to Ikorodu, the Army launched a strike against those living within such areas, backed up by aerial forces. It was called Operation Awase.

PALPABLE tension has gripped residents of Agbede Imuti and Igbo Olomu communities in Lagos and Ibafo and Arepo in Ogun states as the military on Thursday evening launched a air raid on the militant ‘ s camps . The military plane has continued to hover around the communities, creating serious fear among the residents following fears that the militants might invade their communities.

The raid reportedly started around 6 O ‘ clock and is still ongoing as at the time of filing this report.

A resident of Igbo Oklomu, who spoke with Tribune Online, stated that many residents have started relocating from the communities for the fear of being attacked by the militants.

The resident, who simply identified himself as Sile said that the residents were apprehensive of the militants’ invasion of their homes in their bid to escape from the military onslaught.

The acting image maker in charge of the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, denied being aware of the raid.

Meanwhile, the group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa has told Tribune Online, on Thursday that there was an Operation Awase going on in Ikorodu-Arapo with other security operatives now.

He said that the Air Force was involved in the air operation, while the other security operatives involved in land operation.

According to him, “this is to check pipeline vandalisation, militant activities and kidnapping in those areas. http://www.tribuneonlineng.com/military-launches-air-raid-militants-camp-ikorodu-arepo-ibafo/

I don't know if anybody has said this to you cos i couldn't read all the comments.

I want you to write this down today that you ll regret with tears if you marry that lady.

I am talking from personal experience

Marriage is a lifetime journey

The biggest red flag for any man is what God has shown you. God loves you so much that this girl is showing all this madness now before you signed your miserable future with her.

Let me tell you what is going on, she loves her family to death and ll do everything to get rid of your family so as to pave way for her family to take over your life completely.

I was in the same shit but guess what, it was painful and difficult for me to let go cos i love her so much but i thought about my future and used that as my internal fighting force against the overwhelming feelings i have for her. Today, i am thanking God.

Let me tell you a secret, the first thing to watch out for, if you want to know if a lady genuinely and truly love you is to watch her behaviour towards your family. Trust me, the first thing you'll notice in a woman that loves a man genuinely, is how they ll be striving to be liked by your family. A woman ll go to any length to get close to your family so as to win you over completely.

And finally, she has seen your weakness, the love you have for her.

Don't do this cos you ll regret it sooner or later.

Even if you talk to her now, she ll pretend to have accepted them so as to avoid the cancellation of your wedding but as soon as she moves in and give birth, you are finished with your family.
Gbam!! You talk am well! cheesy

Dude, getting your wife to like your family, especially your mother is like getting a shark and a lion to cohabit. It's just not possible. All women hate their (mother) in laws.
Look on the bright side, at least your wife is not a pretender.
That is not true. undecided Not all wives hate their mother-in-laws. I have seen many relationships, where both parties get along real well....

Damn! People are so fast to say stop the wedding. Have you heard her own side of the story?
@amliftedhigher; your wife doesnt hate your family! You are the only male and they dote on you too much for her liking! Probably they convince you easily and have better influence on you than your wife! She dislikes that you are spineless in some issues and are easily tossed around because you are their boy.
Before you call her to order about this issue, sit and think well about little ways you are being controlled. Adjust! Probably your wife even controls you easily and she sees other controllers (your sisters) as threats!
Maybe, she is someone that prefers to stay on her lane without interference! She is probably forseeing third party influence in the nearest future and that is her own way of handling it.
What do you mean??! shocked Didn't you read his subsequent post about how she gets angry anytime he is on the phone with his family, and how she threw tantrums, because his sister got him a vendor that was charging 280k as against the 400k she wanted to spend? huh She ended up bad mouthing the sisters directly to him, and calling them "controlling!" angry Any woman who is in love with a man, would care about the same things he cares for! If she feels he is spineless, then why did she agree to marry him? Why not wait for a macho man with a backbone of steel? shocked And you are here telling him to 'adjust.' undecided Adjust to what? Her rude & disrespectful behaviour?? Or her irrational tantrums that will eventually succeed in driving a wedge between him and his family?

I also want to digress on that assumption of over involvement from the guys sisters..lest be factual...some girls naturally hate to see thier in laws around their husband and i have said before that if you start dating a girl and the first question she ask you is.."is your mum still alive"..wear your running shoes and stay away...she has told you she may not like your mum forgetting that she too will be a mum soon...with that said...

if it was her family that brought another wedding planner with the 280k bill rather than hers will she fume up? nope...common marriage is never a one man thing...families are involved ..this is Nigeria even the whites they still have mother in laws around them cos i live with them here...how do you want to build a healthy marriage relationship when you want to show resentment to your in laws without no just reason..but you love yours and want yours to be involved..is she creating a family at all ... some ladies have come into a family where there are issues between her husband and sisters and the wife will work with love to reconcile both cos she believes she belongs to the family...

Now is this the type of wive that will allow her husbands mom to come live with them for a couple of months to access good medical care in the city where they live? this will prefer the husband not to come close to his mother and allow her die...

now let me leave you with this...i cant sacrifice my mothers love and care for another lady i found who did not have a bearing and contribution to the what i am now be it rich or poor...a wife can abandon you at any point in your life but your mom will never...at age 65yrs and you are suddenly bed ridden..you will see your mom of 85yrs still cleaning you up..running from pillar to post seeking for the best help to save your life..your mother at that age will go to the extent of providing her back to lift you out of the bed even when Doctors are telling her she cant carry you..you will hear her say..he is my son i can carry him...that is the bond and compassion ...most wives would be busy pressing their iphone to even realise you need help..

sit your wife to be down and talk to her let her know you cant alienate your family members just to please her...she is but one person against 6 people ...when the chips are down your family is key...your wife can leave the marriage tomorrow as its the norm this days without blinking an eye but your family may never abandon you.
Wow!! What a great post! shocked May God Almighty continue to increase the wisdom He has deposited in your life! cool

Your wife doesn't hate your family.. On the contrary, she's in awe of them. The relationship you have with your family is splendid and she's scared the relationship she has with you might never get to the level of the one you have with your family.

You guys need to talk. You just need to allay her fears. You have to make her understand that you'll always respect and cherish your family for all their sacrifices. But she's your wife and she's number 1.
Please, do not listen to anybody telling you to call off the marriage.

Goodluck and may God bless your home
She is not in awe of them, she hates/despises them! shocked She is the possessive type, who wants everything to go her own way. Did you read the OP's subsequent post about how she flared up, and said that his sister was "controlling him" simply because his sister got him the services of a different vendor who charged him 280k as against the 400k his wife wanted to spend? huh

amliftedhigher:
A woman who truly loves a man, would at least make some effort to show some affection to his family by getting closer to them. undecided A woman who loves a man, would be concerned about the things that matter to such a man! My cousin's wife used to sit down with his mum, because she wanted to hear about all the pranks my cousin got up to, when he was younger! They would both laugh as my aunt recounted the stories, and today both women have formed a strong bond! cheesy

The OP's wife has not made any attempt to build any kind of relationship with her in-laws, instead she even expresses anger, whenever the guy gets close to his family. shocked And from his report, his family has not done anything to the wife, to justify her ill will towards them. This woman will alienate him from his family - just watch. undecided And she would end up putting him under her thumb in order to have him at her beck & call. He should just have a showdown/confrontation with her about the issue, and clear the air once and for all. A broken engagement is far better and easier to manage, than a broken marriage. sad

Nnamdi kanu should thank God that Buhari is the president of Nigeria now and not Obasanjo. What Chief Raph nwazurike of MASSOB(MOVEMENT FOR THE ACTUALIZATION OF SOVEREIGN STATE OF BIAFRA) did that made him to be kept in prison for 2 years by obasanjo government was not up to half of what Nnamdi kanu is doing now. He was charged for treason. His bail trial ran for two years. It was Yardua government that released him from prison after two years. He was also arrested for same offence by Nigeria police in 2011 before Jonathan ordered his release. Since then, the man has been conducting himself peacefully without any anti-government gathering or protest. Is it legal for kanu to be recruiting and training people as Biafra security service?? Is it legal for Nnamdi kanu to be threatening Nigeria?? The same Nigeria charged chief obafemi Awolowo for treason. He was even sentenced to jail. Yorubas did not retaliate. The country is greater than an individual. How can somebody just wake up and say their will be no election within a country?? If Nnamdi kanu was preaching one Nigeria during Jonathan, what has changed between then and now that is more that pdp loss of 2015 presidential election? It will be a miscalculation or a suicidal mission for Nnamdi kanu to think he can defeat Nigeria with his supporters.
