Cant you read? The ex Nigerian soldiers/ Biafran soldiers were pardoned and paid their gratuity and pension in 2012. The entitlements were there, Ojumwu went and collected his own. If Effiong didnt go to collect his own, it means he wasnt interested.

But it all goes to show that this thread is a big lie as we now know that Effiong and others were pardoned and their entitlements made available which is what they claim never happend.
You are the one who cannot read! sad Start from all the posts that were made on this thread. Ojukwu collected his properties, pardon and benefits, but never fought for the entitlements of those who were with him in Biafra, so they could get the same thing! shocked Now, if several years later, the fed govt decided to be magnanimous by paying the pension benefits of those people, how can you give the credit for this to Ojukwu? He did nothing to make it happen! undecided That is the point! Effiong died in 2003, before the fed govt started paying those pension benefits in 2011. This is what was written in the report you were referring to:

Military Pensions Board, MPB, has said the late elder statesman, Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu alongside other pardoned soldiers that fought on the side of the defunct Biafra during the Nigeria Civil war, have been paid their pensions and arrears totaling N1.5billion by the Federal Government.

Throwing more light on the payment of pension benefits to ex-Biafra soldiers who were pardoned by the federal government, Admiral Mshelia said Ojukwu and others whose pardon were backdated to year 2000, started receiving pensions money since August last year and that N1.5billion released for the payment had been exhausted. He explained that those alleged to have been left out of the payment, did not qualify for going by federal government criteria backdating the pardon to year 2000. According to him “if you were dead by 1999 for instance, you or your next of kin (NOK) is not entitled to the benefit unless government shifts back the date.”

In fact, there is another different record that says it was the late Gen. Effiong who led delegations to the federal govt, to ask that the benefits accruing to the ex-Biafra servicemen should be paid!

Again, beyond his roles in Biafra’s surrender and efforts to set the records right, Gen. Effiong spent a great deal of effort trying to secure the military benefits and entitlements of the former Nigerian soldiers of eastern origin who fought on the Biafran side. He led delegations and rallies to the Federal Government in Abuja to attract attention to the need to settle these soldiers even though the Obasanjo/Danjuma establishment was not moved. Obviously, like many others after the war, it would have been easier for Gen. Effiong to go behind and try to use whatever connections he had in the army to secure only his own benefits. But true to his form, he thought it a mark of betrayal and insensitivity to fight only for his own benefits while the rest of the affected eastern officers were left in the rain. So he decided instead to take up the cause of all the affected soldiers.

Also, because Gen. Effiong is not a noisemaker, not many Nigerians know that he was the brain behind Gen. Ojukwu’s return from asylum in Ivory Coast. It was Gen. Effiong who pressured Shehu Shagari to grant pardon to Ojukwu. Initially, President Shagari told Gen. Effiong that he would first grant pardon to Gowon and see how Nigerians would react, and that if the reaction of Nigerians were not negative, then he would grant pardon to Ojukwu.

Fortunately Gowon’s pardon went well and Gen Effiong resumed pressure on Shagari to pardon Gen. Ojukwu. When finally Shagari yielded to Effiong’s request, Effiong personally traveled to Ivory Coast to communicate the good news to Gen. Ojukwu, but insisted that both kept it secret until its consummation. Yet when Ojukwu returned and it was time for celebrations, airport ceremonies and fanfare, Gen. Effiong stayed away from the limelight to let Ojukwu have his day. What more can Effiong do for the Igbos in particular, and Nigeria in general, by bringing a final closure to the civil war epitomized by Ojukwu’s return? http://nigeriaworld.com/articles/2004/jan/191.html

I don't have time for idiots. If you are coherent you'd know that the OP did not say that Ojukwu abandoned Gen. Effiong. He said that Igbos did. And you sought to reinforced the lie with the following poo.

Seen it now?

Now, as I said earlier, I have no time for idiots.
And I do not have time for lunatics. sad Yes, I stated clearly that 'everyone who was not Igbo that fought for Biafra was either humiliated, abandoned or executed on flimsy charges. How sad!' Abi, na lie? Now, in what way does that translate into demonising the entire Igbo race? And where is the lie in those comments? Please point it out. It is so clear, that you are reading my comments through your hate-filled lens, which is why you can ascribe such crap to my words. undecided

I stand by each and every word I have posted on this thread. Others have even said worse things than I have stated on this thread, but you did not jump up and down, to start ranting and raving at them. Instead, you turned your hateful eyes in my direction, by claiming I reinforced someone else's comment. I really don't care about what you think. You are the incoherent one here who keeps "shifting the goal post".

Both you and the PAID APC GOON blamed "IGBO" for Effiong's fate. And when your igbo hating lie got debunked, you quickly posted this crap to shifted the blame to Ojukwu.

So why demonize entire Igbo ethnic group in your first post since you think Ojukwu was to blame?

And finally, contrary to your mischief, Gen. Effiong died without any iota of regret about Biafra. Thus, you and that old but heartless PAID APC GOON should verify from Dr. Effiong Jr. before showcasing your Igbo-loathing mania to the world.
Ehn, everyone knows that the affliction worrying you, is what is making you incoherent. sad Where exactly in my first or last post did I blame or demonize the entire Igbo race? What was the lie inside any of my comments? Go back and read what I wrote with an open mind if you can, and stop projecting your hate-filled tendencies into my remarks. sad Maybe you are the one paying goons to support your myopic position on social media, who knows? That is probably why you can easily make reference to such things.

And my question still stands: When Ojukwu was busy getting his own pardon from the federal govt, did he make a case to the same govt that the ranks and entitlements of those who fought alongside him in Biafra, should be restored? If you do not like that question, please hug the nearest transformer with wet hands or jump into the nearest lagoon, with your hate-filled soul! You will not be missed! undecided

Michaelmercy:
The vice president of the defunct Republic of Biafra, Late General Phillip Effiong, may have died with regrets - This indication was given by his kinsman, Elder Enefiok Ekefre.... A chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom state, Elder Enefiok Ekefre, has alleged that the Igbos abandoned Late General Philip Effiong who he said died a Biafran rebel. Ekefre made the comment in an interview with Vanguard, even as he chided the Igbos for abandoning the Late Effiong. He lamented that Effiong, the vice president of the defunct Republic of Biafra who died in 2003, was not given the amnesty accorded to Late Ojukwu by the federal government. General Effiong was the vice president of the defunct Biafra Republic.

His words: “The Igbo are expecting support forgetting that they all looked the other way and allowed General Effiong who made the historic declaration that ended the bloody civil war to live and die a Biafra rebel, while Ojukwu died a Nigerian Army General. “General Philip Effiong, an Ibiono Ibom man, was the vice president to Ojukwu. Mr. M. U. Akpan, the Secretary to the Government of Biafra (SGB) was also from Ibiono. General Effiong signed the instrument of surrender, but when the Igbo were talking of payment of gratuity and pension, they only presented General Ojukwu and refused to mention General Effiong.

“He lived and died a Biafran military officer, but Ojukwu’s rank was restored with salaries and gratuity paid from 1966. Today, the Igbo are complaining of marginalization and oppression, forgetting that justice and injustice should not be selective.” .......

get updates they are full members now
Oga, please provide the source and links for your assertion, so we can check it and verify! undecided The last update I got was this piece from ECOWAS website.

In a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Morocco issued from 24 February 2017, His Majesty King Mohamed VI informed Her Excellency Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of Liberia and Chairperson of the Economic Community of the West African States (ECOWAS), the will of the Kingdom to join the Regional Economic Community as a full member (*1). This request comes further Morocco's re-adhesion to the African Union in January 2017. This is proof that Morocco intends to benefit from all the advantages associated with its dual observer status of ECOWAS and the largest investor in Africa. This testifies the particularity of Africa as a strategic global issue and to the importance of the continent in the priorities of Morocco's foreign policy.

However, this request raises the question as to whether a State located in northern Africa can join an organization in the western region. To answer this question, the present study proposes to analyze Morocco's application for membership in the light of the texts in force in ECOWAS (I). Whatever conclusions may emerge from this analysis, it should be clear that only the Authority of Heads of State and Government can decide on the accession of new members (II).

I. The application of Morocco for accession in the light of the texts in force in ECOWAS

According to the Royal Communiqué, Morocco's request complies with the provisions of the founding Treaty of ECOWAS and fully complies with its membership criteria. This assertion stems from an interpretation of Article 2.2 of the revised ECOWAS Treaty which is not sufficiently explicit on these accession criteria. It is through a joint reading of this provision with others that it can be seen that these criteria relate to membership in the West African region (A) and commitment to respect for the goals, objectives and of the fundamental principles of the Community (B).

A. Membership in the West African region

The request of Morocco must satisfy a geographical criterion, that of membership in the West African region. « “Region” means the «geographical zone known as West Africa as defined by Resolution CM / RES.464 (XXVI) of the OAU Council of Ministers » (*2). This Resolution, on which the Abuja Treaty (*3) is based, divides Africa into five Regional Economic Communities (RECs): West Africa (sixteen Member States), East Africa (thirteen Southern Africa (ten Member States) Central Africa (nine Member States), North Africa (five Member States) (*4). The RECs covering these regions signed the Protocol of Relations between the African Economic Community (ECA) and the RECs on 25 February 1998. http://wai-iao.ecowas.int/index.php/en/news-2017/281-the-accession-of-the-kingdom-of-morocco-to-the-economic-community-of-west-african-states

I agree with you that people will feel different about this kind of issue, but what we are talking about here I think is the action of the policeman against the customer, if it was in line with management policy or not. And I think its about a customer who was taking shots or video of the food on display, certainly someone would ask why? and if the customer simply said he likes the presentation, I would let it pass from my own judgement.
Well, if someone is making a video for his music, documentary, etc maybe he should choose the environment and ask for permission. What of a news coverage at an event? some people would mind and others may not. But it doesn't change the fact that there is some level of liberty for persons who want to take pictures to do so.
I had a bad experience my self several years back, when I visited a slaughter market and was amazed to see how the cows were slaughtered. Then there were no phone cameras but I had my digital camera and I was taking a few pictures when some men came to me and asked why I was taking pictures, they said I wanted to kidnap someone. They made all kinds of allegations and eventually paraded me before their chairman. Though with the presence of a few learned sellers and buyers, they resolved I delete the images which I did and left the market embarrassed and in dismay.
I am sorry you had such a bad experience at the slaughter market. undecided But it is in order to avoid such things, that I always advocate that people should ask for permission before taking any shots or making a recording, at any public place.

Nobody is condoning what the policeman did. sad But the chap making the recording at Mega Chicken had been asked to delete the images, which he refused to do. And by his own admission, he protested or argued with the policeman. Now, we all know that Nigerian policemen especially MoPol ones, are not always reasonable people. So why argue with a man who was probably armed? shocked This was what probably caused the situation to escalate, and he was manhandled. If he had deleted the photos promptly like he was asked to, then maybe things would most likely not have gotten out of control. undecided Just saying.

A news coverage at an event is totally different. undecided Most people attending such an event, are usually aware that the organisers would have arranged for journalists, to cover the event. The cameras, microphones and even vehicles of the media station, usually carry their logo or insignia, which are very visible at such events. So those in the venue know beforehand, that there is a news station on the premises. And if a journalist is carrying out a recording in your vicinity, and you object, they usually leave or ask you politely, if you could kindly relocate from that section to somewhere else. I have actually asked a journalist before very nicely, to stop recording in an area where I stood, and the gentleman obliged. He took the guest somewhere else and conducted his interview in peace. sad
