laliga01: That singular act sabotaged their efforts. If not for region sentiment, banjo's troop would have penetrated the west boosting their advantage in war front. These are part of spoils of war. What dirty advantage? Banjo's army was ill-equipped, to take on that expedition to the West. They would have been annihilated by the federal air-forces, once they got to the outskirts of Lagos! At that time, he was reported to have had only 7000 (ill-equipped) troops, while the Nigerian army at the end of the war numbered around 250,000. Banjo knew this, so that was why he sought an easy passage to Lagos by meeting with a few key Yoruba people, who he felt could have expedited this request to gain entry into the West, - a request which was firmly denied. |

attackgat: I think its hypocritical for people to say that Banjo believed the unity of Nigeria yet, the same Banjo became a brigadier in the Biafran Army and commanded a Biafran Army division.
What is someone who believes in ONE NIGERIA doing in the Biafran Army?
Banjo, Ifeajuna, Mr Abam and Mr Alale all plotted to topple Ojukwu and they were arrested before they could perfect their plan, were tried and executed.
The details of their arrest and excerpts of their trial can be found in "No place to hide: Crises and conflicts inside Biafra"
Banjo was secretly recorded as he plotted to overthrow Ojukwu and paid the price all failed coup plotters pay Where is the recording which shows that Banjo planned to topple Ojukwu?? Did you listen to it, at any point in time? Upload it here. |

GeneralTee: #VictorBanjo: The Children Speak
by Deji Yesufu
Today, September 1, 2017, the scheduled media project to shed light on the person and life of Brigadier Victor Adebukunola Banjo begins.
To kick start the project, the first son of the late Nigerian army officer, Dele Victor-Banjo, shall be speaking through an article. I have decided to serialize that article in three parts and shall begin publishing today.
Following his, Banjo's first child, Funto Banjo Oyeleye, will have the floor with her own article. She will be shedding light on happenings in their home that morning of January 17th, 1966. Since she is the oldest, she alone has the best recollection of the day their father was arrested.
Olayinka Banjo Omigbodun, Banjo's third child, will be speaking through an article on her father also. After her, we hope to have something from Adeyemi Banjo, the Banjo family youngest child. He was six months old when their father was arrested.
There will be videos made on their father. And some of the articles here will be published in national dailies. There will also be radio and newspaper interviews.
The month of September, 2017, is a solemn month for the Banjo family. They would rather have spent this month in quiet solitude. But journalists like us have gotten them out to speak.
I therefore request that comments made on these threads with hash-tag Victor Banjo be made with due respect to them and their late father.
Following their own media project, I'll begin to publish my book on their father: The Story of Victor Banjo. The book will be available on Amazon.com and Okadabooks.com. Watch out for it.
Thank you. I cannot wait to read this book! Adichie's book 'Half of a Yellow Sun,' which was a fictional story set during the war period, was made into a movie. I pray this book on Banjo, gets made into a film that will be watched by all and sundry. We need to have as many different perspectives on the war, as possible. |

In Nigeria alone, 26 million people have been affected, including host communities where refuge has been sought and given. With voluntary returns to date, the current number of recorded internally displaced persons (IDPs) stands at 1.9 million, only a fraction of the total number affected by the humanitarian crisis. Clearly, it would be a mistake to talk of this as an IDP or refugee crisis alone. Relief efforts are currently, understandably, focusing on those in greatest need, but the impact of the insurgency and the ensuing humanitarian crisis is much more widely felt.
Meeting their needs as set out in the 2017 Humanitarian Response Plan for Nigeria will cost $1.054 billion, and currently, less than 10 percent of the plan has been funded, thus highlighting the need for rigorous resource mobilization, in order to meet targets. We anticipate that this pledging conference, will go some way to closing the funding gap.
We are optimistic that this conference, apart from helping closing the funding gap, will also provide a platform to forge the enduring friendships and partnerships required to navigate the challenging months and years ahead." http://www.newsweek.com/oslo-conference-nigeria-humanitarian-crisis-boko-haram-560284 https://storage.googleapis.com/wzukusers/user-16932178/images/56264fd3e8efbulfi1un/Yodi-with-school-chd-red_1450.jpg https://www.kdnuggets.com/images/nigeria-rebuilding-borno-stats.jpghttps://www.kdnuggets.com/images/nigeria-donations-borno-4-years.jpghttps://static1.squarespace.com/static/569d806f1c1210c8103a1f2f/57c1e3af6a4963efc2bea907/57c1e3b2d482e921b76739e8/1472324533326/4.jpg?format=1000w"From what I know, feeding IDPs isn’t handled exclusively by the Borno State Government. The UN OCHA is involved with the Borno Government in coordinating the five sectors. The sector of food security which deals with feeding has the NEMA, SEMA, the ICRC, the WFP, the Norwegian Refugee Council, security agencies and recently, the Dangote Foundation involved.
The ICRC, Norwegian Refugee Council and Dangote Foundation reach IDPs themselves, sourcing and distributing food independently, with the state government only coordinating what they do. The probability of default is estimated, based on details provided by the applicant and non-traditional data gathered from the device, such as mobile manufacturer to variables extracted from social networks, created using SMS and calls. QuickCheck was set up by Ilemobola Martins-Kuye, an astute entrepreneur and graduate of Babcock University, in Ogun State. She worked with Addax Petroleum as well as a few SME companies, before deciding to set up her own firm. https://media.licdn.com/mpr/mpr/shrinknp_200_200/AAEAAQAAAAAAAAUIAAAAJDM1NzIxZDkwLWE5NjItNDAzNC1iMjg3LTM4YTViOTBhZjc1Ng.jpgQuickCheck is a modern app-based lending platform, that uses technology to deliver financial services to individuals and small businesses. With QuickCheck prospective customers are one step away, from accessing financial credit. The company is a microfinance fintech that uses a mobile app on Android phones, to help people borrow small amounts of money. Thousands of people have been helped to receive funding, through their platform. https://disrupt-africa.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/QuickCheck.png“Our ultimate goal is to be a digital bank in the customer’s pocket where they can get very cheap loans, save, take advantage of the power of group buying, and perform basic banking needs,” Bola Martins-Kuye, the startup’s Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). “Our idea is to reach the previously financially underserved through a micro-lending system, and build financial profiles for them, hence ensuring financial inclusion. There are over 54 million financially underserved in Nigeria. This is a large market which traditional banks can’t solve due to bureaucracy, lengthy process and huge demands for collateral and low returns for the work required.” http://disrupt-africa.com/2017/08/nigerias-quickcheck-uses-machine-learning-to-offer-loans/ QuickCheck is backed by Seedstars World, a venture capital firm, which over the last 11 months has invested US$311,000 in debt and US$100,000 in equity into the company to help it develop its algorithms. Since then, it has had over 40,000 users and 93,000 applications. QuickCheck's major competitors, Martins-Kuye said, are microfinance banks. https://cdn1.vc4a.com/media/2017/06/QuickChecek-900x322.jpgBeing a data-driven company, we constantly perform analysis both on the loan data and user experience, to figure out what’s our best move. We found the market to be highly receptive to the idea of a mobile bank, in addition to easy credit access, and that’s where we are headed,” said Martins-Kuye. QuickCheck lends between US$15 and US$100 at an interest rate of one per cent daily for a maximum of 30 days. So far, the company has generated over US$100,000 in revenues, but Martins-Kuye said it still has a long way to go. “We have over 10,000 good customers who always pay on-time, with over 60 per cent of them being returning customers,” Martins-Kuye said. http://tanoebusiness.com/nigerias-quickcheck-uses-machine-learning-to-offer-loans/

attackgat: You are ignorant. Britain left the EU last year in a referendum, but at the moment, Britain is still a full member of the EU fir another 18 months as they discuss the terms of disengagement.
If there is a referendum in Igbo land and Igbos vote to be independent, Nigeria has no power to sieze or ask Igbos to return to Igbo land the next day.
The Nigerian constitution states that the 3 ways a person can be a Nigerian citizen
1) If they are born in Nigeria
2) If either parents is a Nigerian
3)Naturalization.
What no1 means is that since most Igbos were born in Igbo land, they will still hold Nigerian citizenship until the day Igbo land is declared independent of Nigeria and no longer a Nigerian territory.
Another thing no 1 means is that Igbos like me who were born outside Igbo land but elsewhere in Nigeria can hold Nigerian citizenship forever (unless citizenship by birth is removed from the constitution)
The combination of no1 and no2 means that most Igbos will hold Nigerian citizenship until the day Biafra is declared independent while others such as me can hold Nigerian citizenship indefinitely.
But anyone thinking that a referendum result granting Igbos independence automatically means that Igbos can be kicked out of Nigeria and their properties siezed should forget the idea since it would be unconstitutional. Lubbish!! Wake up from your dreamland, biko. Are you going to dictate to Nigeria what kind of immigration or citizenship laws they should apply or uphold in relation to Biafrans? Are you aware that nations can change their laws on nationality, at any point in time to suit a specific purpose? Did any Nigerian president or minister expressly promise you and your people, that after they leave Nigeria they would still be entitled to hold Nigerian citizenship or passports? Do you realise that the current laws on citizenship or nationality can be ammended at any time to exclude those whose parents hail from the region that makes up Biafra, and their old passports can be revoked or withdrawn? Think about it! The same sense used to decree that every Igbo man should be given 20 pounds after the war, can still be applied when it comes to issues on nationality within Nigeria!! |

bakynes: You tried but do you know it's a two party agreement, bilateral relationship between two nations, even the UN cannot force Nigeria to sign bilateral agreements with Biafra.
It is a completely different scenario when two nations separate from each other in not a peaceful manner.
Nigeria controls ECOWAS so don't expect ECOWAS to be on your side. Remember the blockage from Cameroon during the Civil War.
The Land use act solely rest the land on the hands of the state. The Land use act for Foreigners is different from Citizens. Why do you think Lagos state enforces all residents to pay the Land use charge if not will have you evicted from the house you built with your money.
Getting Biafra is like Denouncing the Nigerian citizenship so therefore all rights accused to Citizens is hereby withdrawn.
Even Britain leaving the EU has made EU to now introduce trade tarrifs on the UK,one that used to be free trade zone. Now they have to pay heavily to get products and goods into Britain. Ooh! Na dis kind thing I no dey like!! Why are you breaking down the facts, and explaining it to people who have closed their minds to common sense and sound reasoning? Abeg, don't let them have second thoughts about leaving, o! They must go and live in their new republic by force, by fire! It is only then, that they would realise that khaki no be leather! |

attackgat: Well I dont k ow what planet you live on but people do not lose their investments foe not being citizens of a country. Igbos will not lose any of their properties, assets or investments because they are protected by international law.
If countries could sieze properties just based on citizenship then it means that Ethiopia can sieze Dangote's cement plant in Ethiopia because Dangote is not Ethiopian?
It means that Britain can sieze Abuja house where Buhari just came back from because it is owned by Nigeria?
If Jim Ovia or Elumelu dont want Biafra, they should campaign for a "no" vote when referendum comes but they must accept however the will of the majority, that is democracy.
As for saying that Igbos wont be able to live with themselves is just mere speculation. Please cite the exact clause in international law, that prevents Igbo from losing their properties....and tell us who would enforce it, as well as how it would be done. Nobody is interested in your properties. Just excavate them, uproot their foundation and carry everything with you into Biafra, when you are leaving. That is all. The moment you Igbos eventually get your wish and a referendum is conducted and it goes in your favour, Nigeria will be ordered to sever ties with the SE.
Now, immediately this is achieved, Igbos would become illegal Nationals in Nigeria and will be forced to flee their places of residence to Biafra. In a violence prone place like the North, do you HONESTLY BELIEVE they will have the time to sell their properties before fleeing?? Be very honest because all I can see is Xenophobia being the result in the end.

So let's assume a section of this country pulls out, so that automatically bars them from owning properties in what remains of Nigeria? So what remains of Nigeria would drive all foreigners? Sanchez01: Sad reality. The strife among them is so huge that classes abound among Igbos far more than any other ethnic group in Nigeria. Interestingly, these classes are quite petty and spiteful to the point that stereotypes have been fashioned and integrated as class systems.
Among them are;
1. The Wawa, primarily the people of Enugu and Ebonyi.
2. The drug Lords and mules cum ritualists, the Anambrarians, according to Enugu folks. He is also the supremacist.
3. The serfs, unfortunate, inferior Igbos who are not allowed to mingle with TRUE BORN Igbos. They are called Osu (Nwadiala).
4. The core tribalist who wouldn't let other Igbos Lord over them no matter what. A divide from Imo state.
5. The cannibals other Igbos dread to choose from. Call them the Ngwa people from Abia state. A part of Ebonyi isn't left out here.
The Biafra dream would sure be an interesting one to witness, heaven knows.

So why do you keep repeating the same question? I may not be Yoruba, but I can easily spot the reason for the thread a mile off. It was created to set the records straight. Okay, let me say this slowly and I hope you will get it this time - the thread was created to show that the people of the Southwest (and their kin in the NC) are accomplished achievers in every sector of the economy, who have contributed meaningfully to all spheres of life within this country, and beyond. They can hold their own anywhere, and have excelled in many parts of the world. Got it? Another thread can be opened by your good self, to discuss any other issue which you feel holds more importance, than this one. Please feel free to do so... |

rman: At least 5 are on this thread alone.
In my opinion, I do not want too many Nigerians on Quora...call me selfish.
I cringe when I realise the quality of posts on nairaland comapared to contents 8yrs ago. I leanrt a lot on nairaland then. Now, I am even reluctant to share a view or knowledge I know is correct because of insults here and there.
Gbawe Harakiri Sisikill Ajanlekoko Beaf Sagamite
are a few posters I could remeber that always make intelligent contributions
Now all we have is tribalistic folks and kids that insults. You are soo-oo-oo right!! NL was different years ago. I remember learning a lot from exchanges with Terracotta, K0be, dayokanu etc. Yes, we had some disagreements, but it was done with a good measure of civility. Now, that has all gone to the dogs. Initially, when those insulting kids came on board, I tried to stay above the fray. But then I realised that they were mistaking my silence for weakness, and my calmness for stupidity. So I dished it right back to them. Abi, na who be mumu? It is so sad that things have gone down the drain on NL. But thank goodness for Quora. It is still where I take refuge when I want to read sane, meaningful contributions. |
