bigfrancis21: In honesty, some of these so-called 'migration' stories are half-truths and were cooked up only as recently. We Africans love to cook up stories and live by superstitions. Only DNA testing will determine correctly where whom actually migrated from.
Almost every village wants to make up some story how they migrated from some glorious place in the past, and then put it up on the internet and the falsity starts spreading from there. Hmmn... I beg to differ. The truth is that everyone migrated from somewhere. Either because they were fleeing from marauders, or in a bid to escape conquest, or simply because of trading links, agricultural activities, nomadic wanderings or just to enhance business prospects. A large number of scholars, anthropologists and historians, have actually found evidence to support some of the migration patterns, that were mentioned in the oral history of many African communities. The Ossomala community in Anambra, is a good example of an Igbo community with strong Igala influence. I used to wonder why this was the case, but now I understand better. In the past, many of these findings were published in books and hardcover form. But some are now being published online. As long as there is concrete evidence to support a migration theory, am ready to accept it. Afterall, human beings did not just grow from the ground did they? |

adusim: Gbam!! Yet Anambra people always claim to be the origin of Igbos, however, as this thread clearly shows they (Ndi Anambra) are of mixed ancestry comprising Igala, Benin and Igbo. Imo State - as aptly described - is the Heartland of Igbos - 100%! In Anambra, it appears to be true that they have mixed ancestry. The inhabitants of Ogbaru towns such as the Akilis and Aboh migrated from Benin Empire. Those of Oko, Odekpe and Ossomala were descendants of Igala people from Nupe and Jukun empires of Northern Nigeria.
Most inhabitants of many other Ogbaru towns like Amiyi, Umuzu, Umuodu, Atani, Umunankwo, Ogwu-Aniocha originated from Igbo hinterland. Some also had a mix of people from the ancient Benin Kingdom.
It is noteworthy, that some of the towns that whose inhabitants were predominantly from Benin or the Igbo heartland also have some families that have Igala ancestry or bloodline in them—Ohita, Obeagwe Umueze Igala, and Atani. Oko,The towns of Odekpe and Ossomala continue to uniquely maintain their Igala cultural lineage in comparison with other towns. http://ogbaru.org/about-us/ |

Elslim: The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has attained an all-time maximum energy transmission per day of 101,088 megawatt hours (MWH) on the national grid.
It added that the new record of 101,088MWH was in line with its grid expansion plan and that being able to comfortably wheel the maximum energy ever moved along the nation’s transmission line indicates the networks growing capability to evacuate even more energy in the system.
This Day http://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/nigeria-hits-record-high-of-daily-electricity-transmission-101-088-mwh.115621/ Which grid expansion plan?? I thought the same TCN once said that total installed capacity was less than 10,000 MW. So where did this story of 101,088MWH come from?? Is it generating capacity from the GENCOs that they are talking about, or what has been distributed? Their figures do not add up, oh! How can you transmit more than what you generated? Capacity, Generation and Demand _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
As of December 2013, the total installed or nameplate capacity (maximum capacity) of the power plants was 6,953 MW. Available capacity was 4,598 MW. Actual average generation was 3,800 MW (2013 Year In Review, Presidential Task Force on Power, Pg. 16).
As of December 2014, the total installed capacity of the power plants was 7,445 MW. Available capacity was 4,949 MW (2014 Year In Review, Presidential Task Force on Power, Pg. 53). Actual average generation was less than 3,900 MW.
The Presidential Task Force on Power's peak demand forecast is 12,800 MW (April 2015). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_power_stations_in_Nigeria So how can total capacity suddenly jump to 101,088MWH in August 2015?? How??! |

nanizle: It is definitely their job, it is their property.
Abi they want customers to "play with" the meters? Help me ask dem, oh! They have just used this situation to provide their staff with opportunities to be fraudulent. One NEPA/PHCN/DISCO staff came to my neighbourhood recently, claiming his mission was to investigate those with bad or faulty pre-paid meters. When he discovered that the guy who lives opposite me, had a faulty pre-paid metre, he asked for =N=30,000 (thirty thousand naira) to fix the guy's meter, or else he would disconnect his electricity supply. My neighbour brought out copies of the letters he wrote to the DISCO complaining about his faulty meter and requesting for their help in fixing it. He also brought out copies of recharge cards he has been buying every month to load online using his meter number, as well as some bank tellers which he has used to make payment into the DISCO's account, to cover a fixed sum based on his approximate use of energy, which he had computed in the past. Bros, this DISCO engineer/technician no gree oh. He disconnected my friend. And only reconnected him, after the guy coughed out the =N=30k. The interesting thing, is that the meter has not been fixed till date. And there is no receipt for the =N=30k. He went back to complain to the DISCO. They just dismissed him, and asked him to buy another 3-phase meter at =N=60,000 each. Imagine! |

Politics › Re: Nerc Ruling: Now That 'power' Has Returned To The People By Saka Olawale by laudate: 1:02pm On Aug 24, 2015 |
wagzie01: Nigerians over the years have been battled with power supply. Additionally, while many of us have enjoyed limited electricity in our homes, we have still been hurled random bills on a monthly basis due to the practice of Bulk Billing. This practice, which was endorsed by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), worked by placing fixed charges and energy charges on power supply to consumers, despite the poor power supply. However, on Monday, August 17th, this practice finally came to an end…
Ever since the inauguration of the 8th National Assembly on June 9, 2015, the 8th Senate under the leadership of Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki has taken its oversight duties seriously. The Senators, on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, directed NERC to immediately abolish fixed charges on electricity consumption and bulk metering of communities.
Initially, in a press conference held a week after the Senate query, NERC, under the leadership of its Chairman, Dr. Sam Amadi, attempted to defy the directive of the Upper Legislative body. However, in a swift turnaround, the commission released a statement on Monday, 17th August, 2015, stating that customers who do not receive power will henceforth be exempted from paying fixed charges. Additionally, the commission agreed with the Senate’s position on the need to eliminate the practice of bulk billing, and replace this practice with individual metering and billing.
Reacting to the development, the Senate President on Friday, August 21st, expressed his delight, stating that he was glad that NERC finally agreed with the position of the Senate. The Senate President, further urged Nigerians to see the NERC development as a clear departure from business as usual, and reminded them that the Chamber will continue to “represent the best interest of Nigerians, regardless of whose ox is gored.” This is Nigeria. Politicians should stop their grandstanding. The DISCOs will still collect their fixed charges in one way or the other from consumers, either by increasing the cost per kilowatt or through some other means. Or why have they refused to install pre-paid meters on demand, for everyone that has requested for it? They use all sorts of delaying tactics to prevent people from getting the meters in a timely manner, after payment has been made. They have also refused to patronise local manufacturers for these meters. They want to import the foreign ones that are so exorbitant in price. God dey! Another thing they have refused to do, is to fix pre-paid meters that are already faulty. The DISCOs have washed their hands off this task. Anytime you meet them to resolve this particular problem, they will tell you to buy a new meter, which they will never install in time. Dia ris God, oh! wagzie01: In line with this, another aspect that the 8th Senate has to pay critical attention to is the exorbitant charges by Multichoice Nigeria Limited – a South African owned pay-media service.
MultiChoice, owners of DStv and GOtv, earlier this year announced a 20% price hike for all their satellite television bouquets in Nigeria. This policy, which took effect from April 1, 2015, sees the DStv Premium Service rise to N13,980 from N11,650, a N2,330 increase; while the DStv Family bouquet rises from N3,000 to N3,600, a N600 increase. Other increases include the fact that DStv Compact Plus subscribers will now pay N9,420 instead of N7,850; while DStv Compact users will pay N6,000 per month, up from N5,000.
The questions that Nigerians need to ask is: why is it that Nigerians are being forced to pay more for the exact same services that were rendered in the past, when our African counterparts get to enjoy the same services at outrageously cheaper prices?
Now that the cat has been let out of the bag with the NERC bulk billing decision, Nigerians who were passionate about this issue of Multichoice ripping Nigerians off, must now speak out in one voice against this policy. Media Content on the DSTV platform is paid for, in USD. Satellite frequency charges are also paid in USD. Your CBN devalued the naira. What do you expect to happen to the vakue of goods and services that are sourced in USD? They will become more expensive, of course. |

If it were that simple/easy to prosecute folks - folks like John McCain, Louis Farrakhan, and the gazillion of religious hate preachers running around would be in jail right now. ICC is a political body controlled by the West to prosecute folks who don't agree with their ideology and special interests - they don't have time for an inconsequential ethnic group over there.
The king has nothing to worry about. Hmmmn... I wonder o. See, there were about 20 Ezes in attendance when the Oba made his comment about the lagoon.
