Bros, it actually goes both ways. Dr Emeka Anayaoku, the former Commonwealth Secretary-General and the Ichie Adazie of Obosi, married a Yoruba woman Olubunmi, a royal princess from Abeokuta and they have been together for over 45 years; kiss

Prof Vincent Chukwuemeka Ike, the Eze Ikelionwu IX of the great Aro town Ndikelionwu in Anambra State is married to a Yoruba woman too. Her name is Adebimpe Olurinsola Abimbolu, and she is also an accomplished Professor of Library Science. They have been married for over 50 years. smiley

Dr Akanu Ibiam, former Governor of Eastern Region, Nigeria from December 1960 until January 1966 also had a Yoruba wife, named Lady Olayinka, from the great Sasegbon family of Lagos state. In April 1974, Dr. Ibiam lost his dear wife. She died at the age of 68. Out of respect for her, he refused to marry any other woman. She was given a state burial. Dr Akanu Ibiam the late Ezeogo and Isiala 1 of Unwana and Osuji of Uburu, was given the title of "... Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George by Her Majesty the Queen"; cool

Dr Vincent Ifeanyi Maduka the pioneer Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority, (NTA) also married a Yoruba woman. His wife is Engr. Joanna Maduka (nee Olutunbi) from Ilesha in Osun State. she was an undergraduate of University of Ife (Ibadan campus) when they met. They got married in 1967 and are still together till date.

There are several other successful Igbo leaders who were (and still are) married to the Yoruba women, and they are among the most successful Nigerians in history. undecided undecided

Er... people should actually resolve these issues directly, with the writer of the article.

Ozodi Thomas Osuji is from Imo State, Nigeria. He obtained his PhD from UCLA. He taught at a couple of Universities and decided to go back to school and study psychology. Thereafter, he worked in the mental health field and was the Executive Director of two mental health agencies. He subsequently left the mental health environment with the goal of being less influenced by others perspectives, so as to be able to think for himself and synthesize Western, Asian and African perspectives on phenomena.

Dr Osuji's goal is to provide us with a unique perspective, one that is not strictly Western or African but a synthesis of both. Dr Osuji teaches, writes and consults on leadership, management, politics, psychology and religions. Dr Osuji is married and has three children; he lives at Anchorage, Alaska, USA.

I also had to learn their igala dialect there which is 80% a far cry from what we speak and understand especially for a Lagos born and bred like me. Er... one of the commandments in the Bible, in the old Testament which is the basis of the Torah used by Jews is this: "Thou shalt not lie."

Please save your stories for those who are gullible enough to believe them.

Here is the history of the Awori people. They did not migrate from Togo or Benin. sad

Wikipedia: The Awori are a tribe of the Yoruba people speaking a distinct dialect of the Yoruba language.

Traditionally, Awori are found in Ogun State and Lagos State, Nigeria. The Awori people migrated from Ile Ife and occupy present day Lagos state, with a considerable section of the Awori clan occupying areas within Ogun State as a direct fall out of the creation of Ogun State in 1976.

Towns including Isheri, Ota, Igbesa, Ilobi, Tigbo are all Awori settlements within today's Ogun State in Nigeria. The settlement of the Awori clan preceded the establishment of Abeokuta as an Egba kingdom in 1832, as Isheri, the foremost Awori town within present day Ogun State was settled in the 15th century. The Awori are direct descendants of Olofin, one of the sons of Oduduwa - the father of the yoruba nation. As such, in accordance with Yoruba custom, they brought their crown along with them from Ile Ife. Osolo, one of the sons of Prince Olofin, settled at the Osi quarters as his father and his brother journeyed further south from the place where the plate sank at Idumota.

Mark Amaza (Right of Reply) I am writing this article mainly for the benefit of Southern Nigerians who have never been to the North, and mostly have a warped and inaccurate view of the North. I have been driven to write this out of my many personal experiences, and those of friends and family, as has been shared with me. This is mainly an educative piece about what Northern Nigeria is in reality; a complete, holistic picture of this region.

To make this piece a simple read and easy-to-follow, I am going to write it around five common perceptions about the North and debunk them:

Religious Perception: The general belief held by most Southerners about the North is that the region is not just mainly Muslim, but wholly Muslim. Whenever I meet someone from the South and introduce myself, I am correctly placed as a Christian. But once I am asked my state and I say Borno State, the next question becomes, ‘Are you a Muslim?’ This is despite my name being a very common Biblical name, Mark, which is the second Gospel. Matter of fact, I have been asked that question while attending a church programme, with a Bible conspicuously held in my hands. You could imagine my surprise at that question. .
This article was first written in ThisDay Newspapers. I wish you had cited the source. undecided http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/re-introducing-northern-nigeria-not-as-you-know-it/176756/

I also wish you had also inserted adequate spacing and punctuation marks in your article. By the time I got to the end of the article, I had eye-strain. There is a reason why tools like smilies, colours and fonts were included on NL.

Kindly use them to make your article easier to read. wink

Having said that, I am so thankful for this article for dispelling a few of the myths that have been held for so long about the North, by our Southern brothers. Each time I try to explain, that there are different strides of progress in various areas of the core North, and the almajiri problem, does not typify everyone in the North, a lot of them ignore me. It is amazing what prejudice can do to the minds of men. cry

While I thank God for the improvement that education has brought to the life of your family and so many others, there is still a need to do far more in the North, to ensure that more children of the talakawas can enjoy the benefits of education, graduate with good degrees and use the knowledge they have acquired to improve themselves, their people, their communities and their state. sad

The late Sardauna had a vision for education, that encompassed the whole of the North. Unfortunately, he was cut short before he could actualise most of it. It is sad that none of his lieutenants have been able to replicate and implement that dream. angry

Msquare220:
But this is not due to our inability to comprehend what we are being taught, but rather due to the incompetence of leadership in the region to give education its premium importance as a form of human development. We, like every other human being on the face of this earth, can excel when given the opportunity. Talent and intellect abounds everywhere. Opportunity, however, does not.
