Phillip Effiong was in my book, a true soldier and a brave man. He stood their to complete the surrender and officially end the war while other people took flight and ran away. He was also a very quiet and humble man. He did not show off or make a lot of noise unlike some others, even years after the war had ended, he remained relatively quiet. Effiong was a true hero.
Ironsi trusted the wrong people and listened to the wrong people and that was what cost him his life. Adekunle Fajuyi was also a brave man and a true soldier. He chose to follow Ironsi (who was his guest and visitor to wherever his captors took him) instead of just staying back under house arrest in the Governor's House in Ibadan. And he (Fajuyi) paid for it with his dear life when Danjuma and his fellow coup plotters (Northern and Middle Belt officers) summarily executed both of them on the outskirts of a dirt road in Ibadan. Gbam! You talk am well. The true hero of that war was Lt. General Philip Effiong, the Akangkang Ibiono Ibom. He put a stop to further carnage, and saved the lives of countless others. Gen. Effiong’s life is significant for a number of reasons, which include but are not limited to:
1). his wise and masterful handling of Biafra’s surrender.
2). his efforts in ensuring the return of Ojukwu from exile.
3). his efforts at securing the rights and privileges of former members of the Nigerian army of eastern origin.
4). his efforts to preserve the facts of the civil war from intentional and dubious adulteration and revisionism.
5). the hostile and unfriendly attitude of Nigeria’s federal government towards him, including denial of his military entitlements.
6). his determination and conviction that his civil war role was for the good of the country and therefore refusal to be intimidated by the subsequent post-war federal governments. his post-war relationship with the Igbo https://nigeriaworld.com/articles/2004/jan/161.html |

greenprince: So you choose mediocrity as a benchmark over excellence.
Poverty is indeed a brain damaging curse. You need to realise that as a citizen of a wealthy country like Nigeria, you're entitled to a much better life than you're getting now. There are countries where lawmakers use public transport. Let that sink into your head In what way has mediocrity been chosen over excellence? Are you equating Obaseki with mediocrity? Why do people like you have such a pedestrian mentality? If a person does what he is expected to do, what is wrong with commending him? When footballers who have been paid huge sums to play for their clubs, end up scoring a goal, don't you applaud them? Or do you ignore them and say "Oh, they are expected to score goals anyway?" When a singer gives a performance on stage, don't you applaud him or her? Or do you remain indifferent by saying, after all he or she is expected to sing? See, even in the business world, hard working employees who meet their deliverables are commended and appreciated. Lack of appreciation kills motivation, and lack of motivation hinders performance. |

chimauga: MY ORDEAL AT SOEKARNO-HATTA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT JAKARTA, INDONESIA
There is this derisive impression about Nigerian passport holders in most of the International Airports in different parts of the world, especially in Indonesia. The Immigration officers molest, exploit and forcibly take huge amount of bribes from Nigerians and threaten deportation if one refuses to give in. This happens even when one has not committed any offence. They show no respect to one’s Status so far you are carrying Nigerian passport.
On the 17th June 2019, I was once again greeted with harassment by Indonesian Immigration officers. The ugly incidence spurred me to take up a fight against their intimidation of Nigerians. I know that what they are doing is a corrupt practice and we are their major victims. No matter how our country is, we do not deserve such discriminatory extortion.
So, on that day, I arrived Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Jakarta, Indonesia, in an Emirates Airline from Dubai (EK0356). On disembarking from the Aircraft, I was walking to the queue when an immigration officer halted me. He asked for my passport. As he saw a Nigerian passport, he took me to their office and handed my passport over to his colleague. I greeted the officer sitting down in the office. He ignored me. Three times I greeted so he could say what the problem was but he remained silent and kept deaf ears. So I stood waiting for him to break his silence. I was standing, waiting for what I do not know, for 30 minutes before he muttered any word. Finally, he asked of my hotel reservation, return ticket and my Visa receipt, which I presented all to him.
The next question was, "do you want to go into the country?"
I said "yes".
He replied, "Calculate the fare of a one-way ticket from Jakarta to Abuja and give it to me to permit you entry".
I pretended as if I didn't understand what he was saying. The next thing he did was to google the cost of a one-way ticket with his mobile phone and showed it to me that it was $1,200usd (N432,000). I kept silent, trying to make a sense out of his embarrassing demand. But he didn’t stop there. He threatened to deport me by making copies of my travel documents.
At this point, I remembered my sad experience on the 9th October 2018 on this same Airport for refusing to bribe an Immigration officer with $200usd which nearly lead to my deportation. On that fateful day, they had already handed me over to the security and airline staff, reconfirmed my return ticket, checked in my luggage for eventual deportation. Had it not been I was able to place a call to my visa sponsor who intervened immediately by calling the airport Immigration boss and pleaded on my behalf, I would have been deported for no reason and would have lost huge sum and time. To the glory of God, the deportation was reversed. Meanwhile, this is a country I have been traveling to for 12 years without any infraction of their laws in whatever way. I never overstayed my visit, never broke any law, never even accused of any offense. My only offense was carrying Nigerian passport.
With that bad experience, which I was not ready to have a repeat of, I decided to be soft to this one demanding I should bribe him with $1,200usd. He later came down to $500 (N180,000) after a prolonged pleading. I immediately gave him the money but copied his name and saved it in my phone.
On the 21st June 2019, I prepared petitions which I addressed to the following parastatals: 1. Kedutaan Besar Republik Federsi Nigeria (Ambassador, Embassy of Federal Republic of Nigeria) 2. Direktorat Jendral Imigrasi (Comptroller of Immigration) 3. Direktorat Saber Pungli (Anti-Financial Fraud) 4. Pengaddan Dugaan Pidana Korups (Anti-Corruption).
First, I visited the Nigerian Embassy, met with the Ambassador and handed over my petition to him. He summoned an emergency meeting with all the Embassy's senior staff. He appeared very impressive. He commended my courage and promised to follow it up.
I stepped out of the Embassy and moved to Indonesian Immigration headquarters. On my arrival at the Immigration, it was difficult to gain access to meet with the overall Boss, the Jendral (comptroller), but when I claimed to be a Nigerian diplomat, they let me in. They ran security checks on me, gave me a form to fill my purpose of visit. I filled "High Rate of Bribery and Corruption Scandal Going on at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta". This form must have caught the attention of the Immigration boss as he didn't hesitate to request for me.
I gave him my petition. He read but couldn't believe that such was going on in their Airport. I provided the name of the Staff, which I copied into my phone. He typed the name in an application in his Laptop and it displayed the photo image of the Immigration officer. I confirmed the picture was that of the man who collected bribe of $500usd from me. He thanked me for coming up with such information, which he said no one had ever brought to his desk. He made a promise that he would investigate the report and invite me for an update within 48 hours.
In less than 24 hours of my report, I was invited by the Immigration boss. Upon my arrival to his office, I was given a VIP treat. The Jendral, that is the Immigration boss, started with an apology on behalf of the entire Immigration and Indonesian government. He went further to tell me that the officer who extorted money from me accepted he did it, and implicated four other senior “intelligent” officers who were involved in the indecent act. He narrated that the five senior officers had been dismissed immediately, that their dismissal letter would be given to them at the end of our meeting.
A sealed envelope was handed over to me. Inside the envelope were an apology letter and a sum of $1,600usd. The Jendral did not know that the money enclosed in the envelope was above the amount they collected from me. He was so amazed when I told him the money was in excess of my money. He decided to confirm it himself and discovered that the corrupt officers at the Airport enclosed all the money they forcibly collected from Nigerians on board the Emirates Airline that conveyed me to Jakarta that day.
That was how I salvaged other Nigerians who arrived the Airport from that moment onwards. I was told Nigerian passport holders are now being attended to with full respect at the point of entry. The era of $500 to $1,000 bribe for nothing has been defeated.
Funny enough, the Nigerian Ambassador to Indonesia, who I first reported this case to, did absolutely nothing about it. He once told the Consular General, Emabassy of Nigeria, Indonesia, to inform me that they were still trying to get an appointment with the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Indonesia. Two months gone and they are still booking appointments. If I had waited for them, my money would have gone and our citizens visiting Indonesia for businesses would still be suffering intimidation and extortion. This is why nobody cared to report this crime to our Embassy because they all know that the report will be swept under the carpet.
In the photos are the petitions (with different addresses), Immigration form (Purpose of visit) and Immigration Letter of refund. Wow!! This is what is meant by fighting corruption. Bros,' you get liver, o! Chai. And the Indonesians have a functional and efficient govt structure. At least, there is still a huge measure of discipline, and low tolerance for scams in that country, which was why they were able to respond and resolve the situation, promptly. Well done! Nigerian govt officials, should take lessons from you on how to fight corruption. |

If we draw a parallel it means it's okay to abuse dem oyedepo and adeboye that distort the gospel but it is not okay to curse our enemies. The pharisees were elders of religion and these are the only set of people christ was not happy with Did Jesus pray for the Pharisees? Are you saying "Woe unto you" is a prayer? And Jesus commanded the disciples to love other fellow disciples, not murderers and killer herdsmen. Jesus forgave his killers because He knew they were fulfilling prophecy. Are the murderous killer herdsmen and kidnappers fulfilling biblical prophecy? He only asked the disciples to "pray" for those who despitefully use them and persecute them. He never said they should love their persecutors. See a prayer can also take the form of a curse. See, there is nothing wrong in releasing a prayer of curses against the unteprentant enemies... |

Jesus preach message of peace throughout his three years of his ministration, Five times altogether that Jesus ask his disciple to love one another: John 13:34 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. John 13:35 "By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." John 15:12 "This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. John 15:17 "These things I command you, that you love one another. You rush to quote the fig tree as if it a human, why not quote the greatest commandment: Matthew 22:36-40 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” You neighbor can be a Fulani herdsmen, Muslim, terrorist, Christian e t c Oga, you are free to continue loving killer herdsmen and kidnappers. The day they kidnap a member of your family, you will change your tune. Even Apostle Paul, cursed Simon the sorcerer who wanted to buy the gift of the Holy Spirit with money, in Acts 8v 20. He said clearly: "“May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money!" (NIV translation). The commandment to love in John 13 v 34 - 35, as well as John 15 was given to the disciples. Those disciples were to love one another (i.e. fellow disciples like themselves, who also followed and served Christ, just like they did). Did Jesus ask them to love killers and murderous herdsmen who had snuffed the life, out of their loved ones and other innocent souls? Kindly stop quoting the Bible out of context, please. If Jesus could curse the fig tree for certain reasons, and the Pharisees, why are you here trying to preach a fake love for murderers?? |

I worked under such circumstances for five years until i could take it no more. As a matter of fact,my letter of resignation was stained with a few tears as i typed and submitted it.
These are my tips and lessons i learnt from the experience:
1. shes unlikely to change her attitude but you must be responsible for your action and indeed attitude, make sure you constantly exude positivity and a cheerful disposition. 2. Be extremely professional, keep your domestic ish away from the office as best as you can. Do not get familiar with her or any of your other colleagues, no need for pleasntries beyond formal greetings and thats that. The less she and other colleagues know about you, the less ammunition anyone has against you. 3. Do your best to meet and exceed targets and key perfomance areas and indicators! Be seen to be stretching your back. If a report is due on Monday, ensure its ready for submission by Friday afternoon even if you dont hand it in. You may even send it in on sunday so it looks like you are busting your ass for the organisation even in your spare time. 4. Pray, pray, pray and pray some more. For new and better external opportunities and so that you dont fall into any traps/pits
5. In further reference to no 2 please make sure you're not getting to work late or calling in sick or using company time to attend to domestic matters often!
6. Dont join office cliques, gang ups against her or join in general office gossip. Its never a good idea.
7. always be proactive - anticipate stuff and remain ahead. Little things count.
8. Dress as sharply as you can, even with second hand wears ensure you always look your best! Itll help in boosting your confidence and no one will be quick to talk down at you when your appearance is generally on point Every single piece of advice in babythug's post is spot on! Especially no 3, 6 & 7. May the wisdom God deposited in your life, never run dry. Ok, Let me just add one more piece of advice: 9. Make friends with your boss's Oga, ( as well as other Ogas in the office) and try to impress that Oga with your hardwork, problem solving skills and smartness/ intelligence. Don't get familiar with them though, I beg you. Just remain on polite, friendly, respectful and professional terms with the Ogas. That way, if she tries bad-mouthing you to senior management and others, they will not believe you and may even come to your defence. Finally OP Bokunrawo, don't forget advice no. 2 from babythug's post. Never ever let your guard down around your boss. Keep her at arm's length. That way, she cannot get to know your weaknesses and use them against you. |

Jones4190: go and dust your bible wherever it is and explain the following verse for me. Luke 23:24 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”
Proverbs 16:7 When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. Romans 12:20-21 Our Scriptures tell us that if you see your enemy hungry, go buy that person lunch, or if he’s thirsty, get him a drink. Your generosity will surprise him with goodness. Don’t let evil get the best of you; get the best of evil by doing good. 1 Peter 3:9 Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t snap back at those who say unkind things about you. Instead, pray for God’s help for them, for we are to be kind to others, and God will bless us for it.
Mark 11:25 NIV, “ And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”

alBHAGDADI: This is one lie which will burn you later when you get the job and you are asked to bring your credentials. Part of the documents they will request for is the employment letter given to you by previous company, and it usually contains information like terms and conditions which includes salary. They do this to verify if you are actually who you say you are.
If you told the HR you earn N100,000 at your previous work place whereas your employment letter show N60,000, they will deny you the job because you are dubious. No company will want to employ a shady employee. It's such that forge document to dupe the company.
Your approach is dubious and fraudulent. HRs are smart.
But the approach in the OP is perfect because it tells the HR that the job seeker is smart and knows his worth. If the pay they are offering is good, it should be left to the job seeker to accept it, reject it or even request for more.
You see, if the job seeker successfully keeps his previous pay private and he gets the new job, the HR will be marveled when he discovers that he actually earned way lesser than they offered him. This the HR will find out from his credentials which must contain his employment letter from previous company. That alone will tell the HR that they employed a smart person for the job who will wriggle himself out of a tight angle to get his desire. No sir, not all HR managers will ask for the employment letter issued to you by your former company. Maybe a HR manager in an SME might make that blunder, but most structured companies will not do so. They would rather write to your former company to request for information, on you. Another thing is that the breakdown of your emoluments might be included on a separate sheet, as an attachment to your letter. So if the appointment letter which does not have your total salary stated on it is submitted, how would they know what you earn? Some candidates should just tell just tell the interviewers that such information falls under the clauses of the non-disclosure agreement they signed with their former employer, and the NDA is still in force. But you would be happy with a salary that is in the range of X amount, per month. |

Angelfrost: After all this your write up, you concluded by encouraging job applicants to lie barefacedly... The Op's approach is way better for godly people, and those with integrity. Thank you. Ehn? I did not see any lies in options 1, 2 and 3 that he outlined. So in which one exactly did you spot a lie?? |

prigoz: Though am not a doctor but for the fact that I work in teaching hospital and clinical services unit for that matter, I cover most meeting fine by Chairman MAC, it is a lie from pit of hell. Why we usually have CS is when the baby is bridge, heart rate not abnormal, mother's cervix not favourable, two previous CS and so on, please I advice you register at good hospital which has experts to avoid story that touch the heart because it is better to have mother and baby doing well than to scramble to save the mother. Help me tell them, o!! Can you see how they are misleading people? |
