Either yoruba, Hausa or Igbo, we now have a common Goal; we youths are now more united than ever before. We are all in this together! Even the Hausa youths are protesting! So we have passed that stage of petty tribal wars
Do not reply them and Act as though they do not exist. Then watch them disappear into oblivion. Thanks God bless you I noticed their evil scheme's through most of their comments. Anytime there seems to be little unity , discord & hatred is planted mostly btw Igbos & yorubas. While the fulanis & Hausas become saints instantly. We need to search our conscience.lf yorubas & Igbos can resist disunity, Nigeria will be a better place. |

Education › Re: Untapped Areas For Medical Laboratory Scientist, Beyond The Bench by laurelbae(f): 4:03pm On Oct 06, 2020 |
Rexojie: Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) professionals, often called medical laboratory scientist, are vital healthcare detectives, uncovering and providing laboratory information from samples analyses that assist physicians in patient diagnosis and treatment, as well as in disease monitoring or prevention (maintenance of health) and production of vaccines in disease outbreak.
It is sad and disheartening to realize that in a multi faceted profession like MLS, the major direction our lecturers opened our eyes to see is either working as a bench Medical Laboratory Scientists or Lecturing as a Medical Laboratory Science lecturer.
It is terrible to admit that virtually every student of MLS back then was so eager to induct, grab internship opportunity in one big hospital, serve in another well paying hospital as bench scientist as full time scientist running either Electrolyte, Urea and Creatinine, full blood count, mp, MCS and other basic test and also settle down fully as a bench scientist running the same boring routine test for over 35 years of practice till we retired and leave the service. What a very archaic thought in this 21st century!
Well, it’s not our fault but either the fault of Council that has restricted our curriculum to those limited knowledge or our lecturers that could not go extra miles to prove life as a medical Laboratory scientist is worth more than being a bench scientist or a lecturer.
Furthermore, it seems as a Medical Laboratory Scientist we are only cut out for a life of a mediocre, managing and trying to be comfortable which ought not to be. But thanks to exposure I have met Scientists who lives beyond average life and are well to do.
A lot has dawned on me since we left school, I realized every courses we offered from year 3-5 is a resourceful and wealth generating career path on it own. I’m talking about courses like
1. Instrumentation: I have meant scientist who specializes in Laboratory equipment Installation, consultancy, repairs and importation. They have never worked on bench for one day but they are worth millions of Naira and they are independent owning their own company
2. Bioethics: there are scientists working with ethical board units of universities, medical research institutions, Government agencies of ethics. I have seen MLS as consultants on ethics and they are making good pay from it, going in and out of the country.
3. Molecular biology: I have met scientists working in advance molecular lab settings designing primers, using high grade Sequencing machines. I have met Consultants MLS in setting up Molecular Laboratory who are making good money setting up molecular laboratories for government and private agencies
4. Research: I have seen MLS whose focus is medical research related to laboratory, we have so many in this category. They earn National and international grants and are recognized in field of research globally making impact and doing well.
5. Pharmacology/ toxicology: There are also a handful of MLS engaging in Drug testing and clinical trials laboratory with the national and international renowned companies
6. Quality Management and Assurance: A handful of Mls are also making waves in this aspect, and are consultants in quality assurance and assessment, even training other professions on Quality management
7. Medical Laboratory Representatives: The laboratory and diagnostic service is a multi business venture and there are lots of MLS engaged in the area of brand(s) representative, customer service and laboratory service provider.
Other fields includes: Data analysts, public health laboratory specialists, Bioinformatics and many others
Give me a course we offered from year 3-5 and I will tell of opportunities hidden in that courses untapped as there entrepreneurial/professional opportunities in these courses.
However we cannot continue to blame our educational system for our misfortune, but rather we have to realize ourselves and channel our energy than just seeking to work on the laboratory bench alone. Just like the saying it is understandable if your were born poor but it is your decision to stay poor or become wealthy relating it to what we have here, it is reasonable that our lecturers didn’t show us other ways to succeed in MLS other than the laboratory but it is our own decision to make if we would find our way around this or remain retarded like they made us.
That’s why I’m charging us to see beyond working on the bench. Let’s arise and do exploits!
Things we can do to change the narratives:
1. Self Development: The truth is we cannot do anything if we don’t intend to develop ourselves beyond the knowledge we obtained in school
Go for training in any area that interest us in MLS, this training we might even have to pay for, some we will be paid just token and others we will not be paid. But all these are just sacrifices to be made for the greater goal e.g Data Analysis to become Data Analysts, laboratory Instrumentation to become a Laboratory instrument specialist especially in currently trending automation, molecular biology to become a molecular scientist, quality management to become a quality officer and manager
2. Image redefinition: After developing yourself, we need to know how to sell ourselves, how to make people realize our worth and ability starts from rearranging your CV and credentials, earn more certificates to boost CV
In conclusion, to live beyond Mediocrity, it is important as Medical Laboratory Scientist to think and act beyond the bench now.
While we want to be on the bench for experience and as a template for better days ahead, we should remember to focus on the big picture and make that move to tapped the fresh vine.

baybiemee: Hello mothers, join me in giving thanks to almighty God. The struggle of 4 years is now over. I have been ttc but no results. I realized that I always ovulated on CD 12 and not on CD 14 as I made myself to believe. So I had been missing it all these years. So this year I decided to get the OPK and leave nothing to chance. I started taking pregnacare conception, I also visited a gyne and he placed me on folic acid, DHEA and letrozole, I did TVS and I was sure I was ovulating, he gave me dates to BD but unfortunately my DH couldn't travel down. I continued taking the DHEA and on CD2 of my next cycle, I started another round of letrozole whilst still taking the folic acid daily, I was also taking vitamin C 1000mg and zinc 100mg daily. I was eating cucumber every other night before bedtime, I stopped taking cold water too, just drank room temperature water and wore slippers indoors. I did BSF and BD on CD11, on CD 12 at about 1pm I got my peak on the OPK, I BD that day and the next day too. The I started my TWW, every sign i felt I prayed for it to be implantation lol. By 10 DPO I did a HPT and I saw a very very faint line, I thought I was imagining it. I kept testing every two days and the line kept getting darker. I got my BFP, the Lord that has started this will see me through it to the end. Baby dust to you all. God will definitely do it for you, just believe it. Congratulations |

MummyHalo: It was mid year thanksgiving in church today. I'm grateful for life and all the little blessings. Most of all, I'm thankful to God I finally got a BFP! Yes, God did it!!! I pray that this same blessing shall go round each and everyone of us here. Amen.
WIDD: I was diagnosed with High prolactin earlier this year. Before then I had done my own independent hormonal assay twice that gave conflicting results(please while TTC, use good hospital/labs. Preferably, see a good gynaecologist). The doctor placed me on parlodel to help reduce my prolactin levels. On my own, I started taking vit E 1000iu and vitamin B6 100mg per day. I took them throughout my cycle the first month as I was more interested in reducing the hormone. I also did ewedu therapy in addition to these. At the end of the first month I tested again and the level had reduced drastically. The doctor just reduced the dosage of the parlodel to maintain the level( I took this reduced dosage till I was confirmed pregnant). I also continued vit E CD 1 till ovulation and vit B6 from after ovulation to about CD 25 as I read here.
One month after reducing the hormones, I did not get pregnant. I didn't know if I was ovulating. The doctor was meant to place me on clomid but he was stalling as he didn't believe the hormones would reduce under one month. He wanted me to test again. The next cycle, I decided to try okra water to help stimulate ovulation. I soaked okra in water overnight and drank the water the next morning. I did this from CD 3 till cd8. I also got okra leaves with which I prepared okra soup and I was eating this everyday till CD 14. I still continued my folic acid and vitamins. I tracked my follicles that cycle and found out I ovulated. Another thing I did was to have sex every other day immediately after my period.
Above all, we prayed. On children's day, I bought "children's day gift" for my child. I told DH to do same and we prayed over the items.
Truly, it was God that showed up for us. He orchestrated everything in His own time. I pray that He shows up for everyone of us and bless us as our hearts desire. Amen Congratulations ma'am |

Sugargul: Fellow favored women,
I have been a silent follower of this thread. No need saying that every single comment has helped me in my trying to conceive journey. I love how you all are so supportive of one another. I am here to share the issues I had and steps I took. I believe this may be useful for someone as some of your comments were useful for me.
I had my traditional wedding in Dec 2018 and white wedding in March 2019. I was diagnosed with PCOS shortly after as we were trying to conceive with no result since traditional wedding. I just couldn’t wrap my head around it. I had been pregnant in the past and had an abortion because “we weren’t ready” then. My menstrual cycle was like a clock. Super regular! In my mind, it was either the doctor did not know what he was saying or there was an error in the result. I did HSG, turned out fine, Trans vaginal scan etc After a blood test, The doctor said I wasn’t ovulating on my own due to high prolactin (33ng). I was like which one is prolactin again? I don’t produce breast milk so what could be the issue? Doctor prescribed Bromergon and Clomid which I used religiously. I would check my progesterone on day 21 and it would say I ovulated but nothing happened.
My husband was so supportive but I could tell he wanted a child too. He had baby envy when his friends announced their wives pregnancies. His side was clear. He had no issues.
After using bromergon for a while, I went to check prolactin again only to find out it had increased to 39ng. I was frustrated. Doctor changed to Dostinex and also prescribed metformin which I started taking everyday. Still no result.
I consulted a popular pastor on my difficulty in getting pregnant and he told me I had a spiritual husband and I needed deliverance. Hmmm I didn’t make it back for the deliverance somehow.
To cut the very long story short
Me and hubby started praying together every morning (we never used to do this). We would hold hands and pray after devotion. We stopped unnecessary arguments. I felt at peace in my spirit. I had taken Clomid 6 cycles back to back and decided I won’t anymore.
Also, I noticed I don’t get egg white cervical mucus which was a sign of ovulation.
Anyway, last month I read about a particular herbal bitter called Ruzu. I really cannot say if it played a role but it’s just one of the things I tried last cycle. I bought it and took 2capful morning and night from the beginning of my period. I also got Predicte OPKs to track my ovulation. We baby danced on the day of LH surge and after. We would do just one round per baby dance lol so we don’t screw up the spermatozoa inside already
Also, I got fresh raw egg. Inserted the egg white into veejayjay before we baby danced. I read that it can mimick the natural egg white and allow the sperm swim faster. I didn’t tell husband man about this as he might have disapproved it. Anyway, we continued baby dancing after ovulation just in case.
Finally!!!! 2 days ago I missed my period!!!!
I took a PT strip and tested and saw a faint line. Did another and saw clearer lines. AF still hasn’t come. I did another this morning and the lines are more vivid. I have not seen two lines in years!!!!! I am sooooooooo happy. The prayers worked. I can’t explain it. No visit to gynea and Jesus did it!!!!
I have no symptoms yet asides my missed period as I am still early on. My breasts fill heavy and that’s all. It’s really hard to believe. God has taken away my shame. Corona perhaps paved way for this. A blessing in disguise. God is merciful!!!
I pray that the Lord who has done this for me will do yours this month!! I also keyed into many testimonies such as this.
Keep the faith. He always comes through. Congratulations dear. You shall deliver safely Amen. |

[quote author=RillJ post=90008459]The experience is indescribable!
I got to the hospital after some of my siblings had visited and left bu my son was reported to have slept all through. The moment I stepped into the room, my little boy welcomed me in a special way. My wife suddenly screamed that I should look at him. Behold, my little angle had creased his forehead, leaving wrinkles across his angelic face for about 10 seconds.
Meanwhile, my wife used to get angry at me that I always like to crease my forehead which made me look old, according to her.
I can never forget that experience of seeing my first child. I felt special and huge gratitude to God that day and continue to remain grateful ever since.
To every man and woman out there praying for a child, may the God that never fails, whose mercies is new every morning, give you your testimonies in Jesus name. AMEN
