I've only attended one interview so far and I did excellently well bit the HD guy brought his own person for the same position. He makes it clear after the interview & I already knew he won't neglect his candidate for me. I was fortunate to be called back for another position sha
U mean he told you that he has his own candidate? Naija don reach this level?

Of course you must do all what you are expected to do (eg make a good grade in school to compete well in the labour market, apply for vacancies, etc). There is definitely higher powers beyond our mere human effort. Thanks for respecting my unshakable belief!

The most important lesson is that what is yours is definitely yours, no matter how long it will take. The jobs missed had not been destined to be yours. My unshakable belief.
Don't really believe in destiny.
I believe that you reap what you sow, you get out of life what you put into it.
Anyway, its your opinion and I respect it!
Jobs/VacanciesMistakes And Lessons You've Learned As A Job-seeker by LaurelP(op): 8:39pm On May 26, 2015
Let's talk about the mistakes we've intentionally and unintentionally made as job seekers.
Be it in our resumes/CV, in our preparation for tests and interviews, during the tests/interviews proper, etc.
Anything you think you did that you later came to regret or that scuttled your chances of landing a job faster and easier, let's talk and learn from them.

Let me start...
1. My first mistake is the fact that I didn't start applying for jobs from school. I never made any tangible effort to network or apply any job, even though I was hearing tales about unemployment.

2. My service was my 2nd mistake. I failed to put in enough effort in preparing myself for the challenge ahead. Although I later got a job, it took me an unnecessarily long time to do so.

3. I also fumble in some interviews (for very nice jobs) due to ill-preparation.

In all these, I've learned that:
You must do whatever you can NOW! Don't postpone anything.
No knowledge, connection or experience is a waste. One day, it will become useful to you. If not for good, you learn from it.

Now share yours...

Which of the interview questions are you most afraid of?
Is it

Tell us about yourself

What are your strengths and weaknesses

Why should we hire you

What are your salary expectations

Where do you see yourself in 5 years

Why did you leave your former workplace

Some of these questions can be nerve wracking.
Which of them do you fear most?

Mine is What are your weaknesses

In answer to your question, none is better coz I won't be glad to see my child who must have acquired degree(s) struggling through the challenges of life by hawking sachet water and gala. What lesson is he gonna send to his younger ones when he engages in stuffs like this?

I think there are better ways to come out of this unemployment mess and not the hawking of sachet water and gala. I mean, that's not the way a graduate should think even when he intends going into sachet water business. He shouldn't do it like the way a primary school leaver would do it, rather in a unique way that would expose his ingenuity.
Like I said, I used dat as an illustration. It was u who attached "hawking" to it, I never used the word hawking in my post. And of all the examples I gave, you only saw the purewater and gala part!

What I'm saying in essence is dat generally, graduates can do well for themselves by starting small and with the knowledge they acquired in school, make something out of nothing.
Thanks
BusinessRe: Excuses Graduates Give For Not Starting Their Own Business by LaurelP(op): 10:11pm On May 17, 2015
GenerousLord:
In as much as I appreciate the fact that you rightly pointed out that some graduates have some ego issues that preclude them from making a huge step that will transmogrify their lives for good, I would also want to join my voice with other voices who of course do not agree entirely with your post.

OP, I'm just gonna ask you two questions, and please respond like a honest man.

Q1) If you were a father, would you risk the pain of sponsoring your child's education (BSc or up to Master's degree level) knowing fully well that as soon as he graduates from the university and acquires those degrees he will drop them (the degree certificates) eventually, and go after the hawking of pure water and gala like you put it?

Q2) Do you see such an act (refering to my first question) as counter-productive, unplanned and foolish? Or to you such an act is productive, well planned and wise?

And just so you know, everyone is not designed to be an entrepreneur.
1: I gave that as an illustration.
I won't be happy that my child failed to secure a job. But I would be more sad if he fails to also find something to do with the knowledge dat he acquired from school.
Now I ask you, which is better; to sit at home and complain abt everytin u can complain abt on an empty stomach or to hawk the pure water and gala?

2: I've answered your question
