stillwater:I agree with much of what you wrote but then you go into some real generalizations that have me wondering is your knowledge about African Americans from T.V. ? |
eldee:I agree with you about what you said about Nas. Nas is what I would call a "Thug Conscious" artist.and has always be one to educate though his music. I think that his effort to address the word "Nigger" is no different than the books that have been written to address the same issue. He is just using Hip Hop to convey his message and should be given the same respect as those others that tried to address it. I personally don't use the word because I see no positives out of it or get any from it. I see it as accepting negativity that the European placed on Africans. However, I think it is great that it is coming into the forefront as an issue and being discuss, so people can put their opinions out there. |
toshmann:I don't think it will last for as long as humanity. It will last until an new way of classifying people is created. Just like RACE as we know it today was created not that long ago to classify people for the sole purpose of perpetuating a system of advantage. |
lai-lai:I couldn't agree more. The system of advantage called Racism is alive and well. |
Souljagirl:Well said. |
frgy_:I don't think we are at this time helping ourselves a great deal. I think people are thinking more in terms of me nowadays. I feel that these types of situations happened in the past as well. It seems like we have to hit rock bottom before we come together and make great strides. We have to be positive and just make sure that we are about that positive change. |
skyone:I agree and to answer your question are "Black" people united. I put "Black" in quotes because it is a meaningless term from the Creation of Race but for this conversation I will continue using it. I think that they are not so united today because we have lost our way. Now, lets look back 50 years and the state of "Black" people around the world. What did the world look like? Well in the States "Black" people were not free, the continent was under colonization for the most part still, etc. Lets look back 100 years and picture still is the same and "Black" people in Brazil were just ending their enslavement no more than a 2 decades before. If you look at what I stated I think you will see that in the past 50 years we have made big strides around the world. With that said, we are now trying to find our way and figure out how to make that next step. I think people need to understand that change doesn't happen overnight and takes a long time to happen. There were ups and downs over the period of enslavement and colonization period but finally we became united and won our freedom all over the world. This will happen again to push us to the next phase. I think that it is also beyond just thinking of "Black" is beautiful in terms of just appearance. I see it in more the terms of "Do people think that anything "Black" is great?" in the sense of institutions etc. When I say institutions I mean educational, business, political, etc. I think that is what will play into development. I wonder, if one doesn't think that the institutions that we create are great will they work in unity to make them grow? @poster Now looking at Is "Black" Beautiful issue. I really don't think this is just an African American issue but one all around the world. The Creation of Race (junk science) by Europeans affected African people around the world. However, I agree that people don't think that their African features are beautiful and that "Black" is Beautiful is just lip service. |
frgy_:I agree but I think people think that "black" people should be at some level right now. People have to realize that "Black" people haven't been free for that long of a period of time and from the situation that we existed no more than 100 years ago around the world. We have made leaps and bounds. Change doesn't occur overnight it takes time and hard work. There are going to be ups and downs but you have to maintain that progress is going up. I think "Black" people have done that. |
frgy_:I think you already know the answer to that question. There is nothing wrong with the melanin in our skin. I think some "black" people have issues with them but to attribute it to melanin is no different then this whole concept of "Race". In which, the whole idea was that our "black" skin was the mark of inferiority. We need to understand that "Race" doesn't exist and get past this. |
This one is easy, "NO" There is no need to go after a married woman, unless the person is just in it for "physical reasons" LOL! Nothing good on a serious note comes out of that type of situation 9 times out of 10. |
britgirlee:LOL! I like the new saying! Thank you for the compliment! ![]() btw you have a beautiful smile. ![]() |
meta4:Just be patient and wait and see. It is way too early to start to get worried. ![]() |
britgirlee:Interesting topic! I have noticed that people only act brave on the internet because they are anonymous. ![]() |
9ja_Lady:I don't think that Hip Hop is on life support. I just think this era of Hip Hop is on life support. This era has lasted a lot longer than any other. The reason is that it is being pushed by the people that sit on the boards of Song BMG, EMI, Universal, and Warner. I enjoy Gospel Hip Hop, but I wouldn't put it in a different category. It is the same music genre. You are just speaking on different topics. I know people that are artist that are Christians, They will still say they are Hip Hop Artist. Hip Hop is not one type, That is what is messed up now. |
jerrymania:I agree that they should learn how to use metaphors and similes. Some of their lyrics make no sense at all. Like this: Thats That Salad Dressin Im On My Thousand Island Wildin, Stylin, I Be I Get So Much Money Its My I.D Dont Try Me What are you saying!! LOL!! As far as their accent, I think that is fine if that is how they talk where they are from. I enjoy hearing everyones accent. I would hate for people to all sound the same. That is boring. |
I would have to say we need to get back to the best era of hip hop from around 1988 - 1994 That era had so many classic albums and they were all different kinds of hip hop. The problem with hip hop is that it is all the same. Boggie Down Productions (KRS-ONE) - By any Means Necessary - Social Conscious Hip Hop Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back - Political Hip Hop NAS Illmatic - Thug Conscious Hip hop (first album crowned one of the greatest lyricist.) NWA Striaght Outta Compton - Gansta Hip Hop Tribe Called Quest Low End Theory. - Jazz/Conscious Hip Hop, that is just a small list and if you had an all time album list , those would be on it, Whether it is that new song by Playaz Circle w/ Lil Wayne called Duffle Bag Boy or 50 Cent song called I GET MONEY, from North/ South/ East/ West, it is basically the same thing, and nothing really different. Now we do have Lupe, Kanye, Common, Talib, but it is far a few between, You also had the Stop the Violence Movement, Artist actually tried to use there status to help the community, now most just want to just make money, You could see that with the Jena 6 issue, there was not many that open their mouth to say a thing, Only people like Mos, Bun B, Ice Cube, etc, I have to say I do love that Soujah Boy Dance!! LOL!! ![]() |
