Rabiu Ibrahim Reveals Real Reason Why He Didn’t Play Against Charleroi

https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/image-74.jpg

Nigerian midfielder Rabiu Ibrahim who missed Gent’s first game of 2017 against Charleroi has revealed to Owngoalnigeria.com the reasons behind his absence.

Rabiu earned rare reviews from the coach of Gent for his performances during their winter camp in Marbella, Spain. Where he dazzled in the three friendly games they played.

Coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck went as far as saying the Nigerian will be like a new summer when the league resumes, but Rabiu wasn’t listed in the match day squad against Charleroi.

”I’m currently nursing an achilles tendon injury I suffered in training few days to our game against Charleroi, that is why I didn’t make the squad for the game”, Rabiu Ibrahim told Owngoalnigeria.com.
So far he has made only three league appearances for the team he joined in the summer from Slovakian side AS Trencin.

TOP FIVE TEAMS IN AFRICA.

I was discussing with a friend a while ago and he said this AFCON is boring - A view I countered anyway but that is not what this write up is all about.

He further said this AFCON has also pointed out that Africa does not deserve the additional slots being award for the future expanded world cup, which I also countered. I told him that African Power houses are almost at par. That the additional countries from Africa would not in anyway diminish the standard because of the parity I earlier mentioned.

I gave him a simple test by listing the top 10 African footballing nations presently. And that irrespective of FIFA ranking, based on his understanding of the game in Africa, he should chose the best 5 footballing nations based on current form.

I tell you, after picking his first 2 he became confused and started analyzing who the other 3 should be.

See the list of top 10 African teams I gave him in no particular order:

Nigeria
Ghana
Cameroun
Ivory Coast
Senegal
Algeria
Egypt
Tunisia
Morocco
DR Congo

I want to throw it open to the house, forget about FIFA ranking. Using your knowledge of African football and knowing the capabilities of these individual nations can u list the best 5 teams presently in Africa? If you don't agree with my top 10 you can also list yours.

cc: All parliamentarians here.
I love my country to be honest but I would not put us in the top 5 yet even top ten for now. Your list is good except Nigeria for Mali. My reason is simple, if we were top 5, we would have been in the nation's cup. Also if the list was about future prospects in terms of players we have then we would be number one. For now let's keep building and watch how good we can become. I pity those countries that are making fun of us now, time has a way of sorting things out

There is great potential for him to contend with Furmino because I think he will score more goals. If he continues to score he can find himself the main man.

There is less pressure on Klopp to win the EPL, as a result he will have more patience and loyalty to Kelechi.

Comparatively Guardiola is having a baptism of fire and under far greater pressure, it's an expectation that he should win the EPL. I don't know how well he can deal with failure or a failing team. This means Guardiola does not have the luxury of time, which means he will inevitably be impatient. Players will be dropped if they can not produce to the standard required without sentiment.

For Kelechi going to Liverpool would be a far better proposition the style of play and philosophy is very similar.
My brother, I quite agree, at least this is another good coach but when sturridge becomes fit and firmino is also on song, iheanacho might not see shirt o. Origi sef dey o

and what I am saying is that Bojan declined despite training under Pep without adequate game time and trust. Busquets on the other hand developed with game time and not that training ground policy of yours. Remember that at the beginning of the season Iheanacho was good whenever he came on because he was trying to impress, now his confidence is low. Sane is still in that bracket, he is trying to impress believing that Pep will reward him, if Pep doesn't the same thing will happen
And did his moving to Roma, Milan or stoke improve Boyan? We need to weigh both options properly

Not to support the goodjoe, or all those in support of iheanacho leaving for loan. My question is what exactly do we want for iheanacho? Is it for him to become one of the world best or play regularly or both. And how can we achieve this? I support him going on loan so he can get more playing time but my fear is this, I don't want him to fizzle out. This is one of the few prospects we have in Nigeria and with the fact that he is even in Man City makes me happy. Not playing is not helping, but I don't want him to just go on loan to any team just to play. That might improve his confidence but he might not grow to become the player we always dreamed of. So what do we want for him? People do say Mou destroyed Mikel's career but I doubt if he would have won half of what he had if he by chance went to a lesser club. Time has a way of fixing things anyways

Super Eagles Star Etebo Set For Another Scan On Injured Knee In 15 Days Time

Oghenekaro Etebo will undergo another scan on his injured knee in 15 days time according to reports gathered by Owngoalnigeria.com editorial staff.

Etebo underwent a scan but the extent of the damage to his left knee which caused him to be substituted against Vitoria Guimaraes was not determined.

The 21 year old was asked to rest the knee for 15 days before another round of scans, which will determine when he will return back to training for Portuguese side CD Feirense.

CD Feirense will also be without the services of central defender Paulo Monteiro aside the Nigerian for this weekend game against Estoril.

Watford Coach Walter Mazzari Provides Update On Reports Of Ighalo’s £17m Move To West Brom – At The Moments He Will Travel With The Team

https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/image-21.jpg

Watford boss Walter Mazzarri insists striker Odion Ighalo will be on the team bus on Friday as the Hornets travel to Bournemouth.

The 27 year-old was linked with a move to West Brom on Thursday in what Is understood to be a fee of around £20 million.

under Quique Sanchez Flores last season but has struggled to recapture his best form in Mazzarri’s side this term.

He has only scored twice this season in all competitions – after notching 17 last term – while the Hornets have struggled for consistency in both their starting line-up and their general Premier League form.

The Nigerian international joined the Hornets on a free transfer from Udinese in 2014 and has scored 39 goals in over 98 appearances. Twenty of those goals helped power Watford to promotion from the Championship to the top-flight in his first season and in 2015 he was English football’s leading scorer with 30 goals.

He signed a new deal with the club last summer having been a £37.5 million target from Chinese outfit Shanghai SIPG with the Baggies also trying to sign him in a player-plus-cash exchange involving Saido Berahino only for that deal to fall through.

The Hornets also turned down a £35million deadline day bid last January from Manchester United – the club Ighalo supported as a boy.

But there is a growing sense at Vicarage Road that a fresh start would suit all parties. Watford’s ruling Pozzo dynasty have also based their business model on scouring the globe for rough diamonds and sel

However on Thursday night Mazzarri played down talk of an immediate deal claiming that Ighalo would travel to the South Coast with the team as they prepare to face Bournemouth in the Premier League this Saturday.

He said ” At the moment he will travel with the team. When we have a game like this against Bournemouth I don’t want the transfer market to distract my players. They have to be focused on the colour of the Watford shirt.”

Little Known Nigerian Forward Samuel Kalu
Steals The Headline in Belgium After Debut
Performance For Gent

https://owngoalnigeria.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/image-93.jpg

Gent of Belgium appears to have unearthed a
diamond in the rough in little known Nigerian
forward Samuel Kalu.

Kalu was signed by the Belgian side from AS
Trencin of Slovakia at the start of the January
transfer window, and after two weeks of training
with his new teammates, he was handed his
debut yesterday.

The 18 year old was simply unstoppable using his combination of power, pace and dribble to leave his markers in their wake as Gent defeat Sporting Charleroi 1-0 in their first competitive game of 2017.

Played as a winger, he started on the right but
cuts in occasionally to play through the middle,
before switching to the left wing in the second
half after the substitution of fellow Nigerian Moses Simon.

He lasted the entire duration of the game, and
expectedly his performance in the game where
he set up the man who scored the only goal of
the game, earned him a spot in the Belgian
dallies.

Yes Ikeme is playing for championship club with over 15 years experience which is valuable to Eagles.Nobody is waiting for a keeper that w face Brazil or Germany,Enyeama as Enyimba NO 1 has proved us wrong by having a great match against England at 2002 W/C.

Alampasu is young and talented but playing for div 3 w not do him a favour in d super eagles selection,he need to raise his bar to be considered for such huge tasks. If he was ready Rohr w not went for Akpeyi when Ikeme was injured before Algeria match.

On Eagles players not having 90 mins in their various club sides, well i don't know how u arrived at that point coz d present Eagles players are having nice outings with their various clubs and is a plus having players in Man city,Arsenal,Chelsea just to mention a few.
Not making a case for Alampasu, just that how many African goalkeepers are playing in Europe and how many are first team keepers, in due time, time has a way of sorting everyone out anyways

This is not exactly accurate..

Iwobi, Balogun, Ekong, Ikeme, Onazi,Etebo, Moses, Omeruo... 8 of the starting 11 in our last game are regulars at their clubs..

As regards talented keepers, Ikeme, Nwokolor, Alampasu, Francis Uzoho, Emmanuel Daniel.. Some of these keepers are far from being ready but they can understudy Ikeme for the next 5 years.

We have amazing talents abound.. Watching Gent's match at the moment with Samuel Kalu, Ekong and Moses starting..

Honestly your philosophy on camping is over exaggerated,d efficiency of camping is always for academy or under age like U 17 or U 20 but senior team, camping is just to fix grey areas, for instance Eagles Right full back position or DM where w now have Ndidi and Onazi competing coz it w hard for Rohr to decide on whom to pick.

The senior team like national team is not a place where u throw everything open for grab,a good coach must have his first eleven to his chest, though one or two player might pull surprise by breaking into d team e.g.Etebo against Algeria.

No matter what happened before Cameroon match,i can tell u that 90% of those who prosecuted Algeria match w make d team.So camping sometimes in d senior team doesn't give rooms like under age camping where u are looking for d best.

On goalkeeping aspect,if i may ask u do u think Ikeme convinced Olishe during camping?NO.Olishe already see Ikeme as his No 1 choice irrespective of Enyeama performance in camp.Guardiola came in and said Bravo is d No1 over Hart,Mourinho rate Coutious over Chec, this decision is personal not camp decision.

It was on this thread i said it took Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer to 2002 W/C who was my university coach just 15 mins to rate Enyeama than Ejide,so sometimes camping does it in d senior team when u are having issues.

Alampasu is a young talented keeper coming up with a great prospect and wit time he w reach their but for now Super Eagles number 1 is not for a keeper keeping in Portuguese div 3,is an insult to our national team.
It is this kind of situation that lead to the gap the okochas and kanus left behind. We don't believe in giving youths the chance to prove themselves, if not for the vision of the coach people like iheanach and iwobi will not be ripe enough, the talented no 1s will fade out. We need to continuously invite young ones and try them. Remember that the real ages of these players is questionable. So we are bound to create another gap after these ones age

Not true. We had very credible back-ups for Enyeama: Austine Ejide and Dele Ayenugba. The only problem was that all three were of almost of same age. So they aged away from the national team almost together.

Forget about Enyeama. He is gone for good. Rohr in addition to raising a back-up for Ikeme is also developing young goal keepers. At least he has invited Emmanuel Daniel and Dele Alampasu. He also has his eyes on Nwokolo. This is ok by me.
Ejide and Dele were no where near Enyeama's level and still alampasu and co have not been up to par. My fear is that there seem to be no one addressing the issue

My brother, I understand ur view on this issue. We thank God that we have some1 like Ikeme who quickly filled the gap Enyeama created.
I don't doubt whether Afelokai might be better than Ezenwa and Akpeyi. But, also I dnt think Akpeyi and Ezenwa are not that bad backs-ups for Ikeme.
I am sure our goal keeper trainers know Afelokai very well and if they deem it fit to invite him they should go ahead.

But has it come to ur notice that African countries are curently generally lacking in the goal keeping department.I remember the days when Cameroun would boast of Antwan Bell and Thomas Nkono, Nigeria was boasting of Peter Rufai, Ghana was boasting of Edward Ansah, Zambia had Edward David Chabala. Ivory Coast had Allain Gouamene, Egypt had one fine goalie back then...Mohammed something, (The one that baosted to Yekini that he would not score against him at Tunia '94), forgotten his name. Well, gone are the days. undecided

Rufai, during his era was Nigeria's best goalie ever but was not adjudged Africa's best but Enyeama during his era was by far Africa's best goalie. That tells the story.
Problem is that when Enyeama was reigning we had no back up, and I am happy someone has enlightened this topic, hope we can get young keepers who can be ikeme's understudy so we can keep recycling good keepers

NFF Rejects Caf’s Request To Host 2017 U-17 Nations Cup

THE Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) may have turned down a request from the Confederation of African Football, CAF to bail it out and host the 2017 edition of the African U-17 Championship. CAF had last week stripped Madagascar of the right to host the championship even as it had not made any concrete arrangement for another host. A reliable source at the NFF informed Sports Vanguard in Abuja that on Monday the
federation received a letter from the continental body requesting it to bail it out by staging the competition scheduled to take place later in the year.
According to our source who did not want to be mentioned, the NFF who has been battling a nagging financial crunch did not waste time in declining the offer. “Yes we have received a letter from CAF but there is nothing we can do to help them because we know the prevailing situation in the country. The nation is presently in recession and it will be foolish on our part to begin to request the government to venture into
such. In fact that would have presented us in a very bad light before Nigerians.”The executive committee of CAF had met last Thursday in Libreville, Gabon and announced the withdrawal of the hosting right from Madagascar; a development many analysts believe is a way of getting back at the president of the Malagasy Football Federation, Ahmad Ahmad who is the only candidate that will contest the presidency of CAF with the age long incumbent, Issa Haytou. Hayatou a Cameroonian had been in charge of CAF since 1998 and despite a change of its bylaws last September to limit the tenure of its officers, CAF tactically left a window for him run again and if he expectedly wins, will be in
office till 2021.

Not only you o, I did mention it earlier, the games I have watched so far lacks tactics and coordination. Build up play is so poor that I get uninterested after a short while. maybe the tournament is at an early stage and might get better with time. Just maybe

I tut dis thread is about super eagles....y so much emphasis on the tactics of man city,Chelsea, arsenal, bayern Munich and the likes of late?....I know it keeps the thread alive bt let's not derail from its original intent!
Simple, Nigeria is not in the nation's cup and is not playing any friendlies, also you would have noticed they really focus on individual Nigerian players in their various clubs so I think we are in line. Otherwise the forum will be practically empty

That is why I said with 12points we are almost guaranteed at least to be among the best three 2nd placed teams. For the last edition of qualifiers the best three 2nd placed teams all finished with 11pts.

Also I am not underrating any team. Nigeria has learnt this the bitter way. But I tell you that if we take all those games in our group serious we will take 12points from Libya and Seychelles combined.

Talking about a possible withdrawal it is very possible. And there is no way Nigeria will not take the game against South Africa seriously. My conclusion is we are highly expected to top that group.
I hope we do, It is only the matches of Nigeria that can ruin my appetite. I really hope we continue on this path, also match bonuses and all are paid in due time so moral will be high. Sad we keep missing international friendlies who should help us get more players in shape. Hopefully we shall get there but that world cup is key for me o
