enyojo: I got this list from Planespotters.net, a civil aviation database with 200000+ photos and information on 30000+ aircrafts. And what you will find after the cut is a comprehensive list of all aircrafts used in Nigeria and their ages. There's actually a 40+ year old plane flying in Nigeria. Wow! See it after the cut...

Here is the same info - the african virtual school shows it http://www.africanvirtualschool.com/average-age-of-nigerian-aircraft/ .

One of the best ways to improve your essay is to write essays and hopefully get feedback on how you could do better. www.essaypractice.co.uk is a free site created by the same team behind the African Virtual School. If you are preparing for their English exams, register for free and submit your essay for review. If you are registering from here, please send me a private message with then user name you used to register. This is to stop spammers.

PS: You will all agree with me that the standard of English on this forum is sometimes atrocious.
EducationRe: Jamb Rules Out Extension Of Utme Forms Sale by LearnBook: 10:48am On Feb 16, 2012
May I also point out two projects I am involved with: The African Virtual School is an online Maths/English revision site for Jamb (http://www,africanvirtualschool.com ). For Maths, we have a book on Amazon (just search for the African Virtual School Maths Book).

Also, to help with English, we have a completely free site called Essay Practice (www.essaypractice.co.uk ). Submit your essays and receive feedback from the community.

To your success.
EducationAre You A Tutor? by LearnBook(op): 12:08am On Nov 28, 2011
If the answer is yes, then register for free at the African Virtual School Tutor Portal http://www.africanvirtualschool.com/tutors/register_tutor.php. This free portal allows students looking for a tutor to search and find you. It is beta at the moment so if you find something not working, please comment here.

Thanks and have a blessed Sunday.
PoliticsRe: We Need Newspapers Like 234next In Nigeria. Too Much Is At Stake. by LearnBook: 2:46pm On Nov 09, 2011
I think the problem with 234Next was that they created a traditional news organisation, without taking into consideration that newspapers all over the world are finding it tough.  They could have focused on just an online presence to start with.  This would have saved money on printing and distribution.

Unfortunately, they really seem to be out of money even for their online operations as the front page is full of recycled international news; something almost all readers in Nigeria and abroad can also get from CNN, The Times and the likes.

WebmastersRe: The Untimely Demise Of Kalahari In Kenya And Nigeria by LearnBook: 4:34pm On Oct 25, 2011
The other problem is the cost of distribution. A $10 dollar book on Amazon will be shipped to you mostly for free and will cost $10. A N 1500 will have a shipping cost of sometimes N1500. This gives a total price of N3000 (almost double). Also the margins on books/cds can be quite small. And I agree with the credit card problem. So for e-commerce to work, there should be

1. An easy way to pay
2. Low distribution cost

It is no wonder that they are sticking to dealfish (no inventory costs)

Ok, I'll start smiley - Students do not read or write enough. The standard of English in the media is generally poor. What do you think?
BusinessRe: For-Profit Library (Media Rental) Business Strategy Essay Contest by LearnBook: 10:12am On Oct 04, 2011
Here are my thoughts:

I would focus on Print on Demand (POD). So the chains will print the books on the spot as distributing books is hard in Nigeria. For my sins, this is what my fledging start up the African Virtual School has been battling with for some time now - Our books are available on Amazon. Here is an example of one, Olabisi's Party and other stories http://www.amazon.com/Olabisis-Party-Other-Stories-African/dp/0955759676/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1317719338&sr=8-2 and here is an example of another, a maths book for JSS pupils http://www.amazon.com/African-Virtual-School-Maths-Book/dp/0955759633/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317719338&sr=8-1.

A second idea might be to have a Kindle Lending Club, may be cheaper in the long run than physical books.

@Salesauto - you pay for the exams.  Could be up to $100.
EducationRe: What Do You Think About University Of People The First Free Online University by LearnBook: 9:17am On May 25, 2010
I think it's a good attempt. Will give students in Nigeria and elsewhere the chance to have a good education at low cost.

One way to look at it would be, Would your child be at a disadvantage compared to the children who do homework?
EducationRe: All the Maths Lords In This Forum pleeaase I Need Ur Help On This Question!!!! by LearnBook: 5:18pm On Jun 18, 2009
Let x = b2,

So we have x + 1/x = 2 [ subtract 2 from both sides]

Multiply both sides by x, this will give x2 + 1 = 2x because x * 1/ x = 1

so we now have x2 - 2x + 1 = 0 [ subtract 2x from both sides]

This equation has a well known answer: (x-1)(x-1) = 0 [ check your algebra book]

So x = 1, which means b2 = 1, or b = 1

Check: 1 + 2 + 1/1 = 4

Wow. This thread has really moved on. This is a simple one we did for early secondary school (Sierra Leonean names and currency used)

Adama, Jeneba and Isatu share Le 12,000 in the ratio 1:2:3. How much money did Jeneba get?

We decided to use visual answers, here on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MTF66l_b_c

Enjoy.

EducationAfrican Virtual School - Feedback Wanted by LearnBook(op): 9:44am On Jun 08, 2009
Dear,

I would like your thoughts on this project.  We created a distance learning school (www.africanvirtualschool.com) with the aim of offering qualifications in Maths, English and ICT.     The target are adults and students who for one reason or another did not complete their schooling.   It would allow them to get basic qualifications for work.  Would you enrol in such a school?  Are we missing something?

Thanks

As a gift for your feedback, I am including a sample from "Worked Examples in Probability" for WAEC, NECO, JAMB exam preparation.
EducationRe: Nigerians And Spelling Errors! It Keeps Getting Worse! by LearnBook: 2:09pm On Aug 30, 2008
Just a quick note:

85% of students doing their Waec, Neco or Jamb exams fail English and Maths.  It does not surprise me that so many of them struggle with the language.
PropertiesRe: Why Pay House Rent In Advance? by LearnBook: 2:55pm On Jun 10, 2008
Me thinks that the real reason is the lack of enforceability (is there such a word?) of laws. It should be possible to pay monthly but equally possible to quickly eject someone who is in arrears and claim the backlog against his future earnings. Our biggest problem in this regard is the ability to properly identify citizens and also being able to measure their credit worthiness.

seun - PAYG Rent is a good idea if and only if tenants can be quickly evicted if they default. Just like the phone companies just stop you from making calls.
EducationFeedback Wanted - Examprayerwall.com by LearnBook(op): 2:49pm On Jun 10, 2008
In our church, we have an exam prayer wall where students and other exam takers can post prayer requests in relation to exams. We had an idea to create a virtual exam prayer wall so that other people could take advantage of this too. My questions:

1) Do you think this is a good idea and why?
2) If you think it is, would you post an exam prayer request to such a site?
3) Have I missed something?

Thanks

Maybe local developers should focus more on subscription based web hosted software. Will keep people on the straight and narrow.
