The Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to allow the rule of law prevail in the matter involving the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on the eve of his 75th birthday anniversary, the clergy said it is wrong for anyone to undermine the Constitution of Nigeria which is the basis of the Nigerian nation.
Onaiyekan while reacting to the suspension saga said: “One thing is certain, the action taken if you approve it or not has created a lot of bad blood, created a lot of dust in our political atmosphere.
“What I am trying to say is that something has happened that should not have happened at all. Let nobody tell me that the rule for removing a chief justice of the federation is not clear,” he said.

Onaiyekan said that the situation is giving the impression that Nigeria does not have a clear law, adding that this is not good for the country.
“If it is so unclear with the judiciary, what will happen to the legislature? Since the executive has the ownership of power including military power they obviously have an edge over the other two arms of government, but the entire system cannot stand unless the three are standing well.
“My hope is that with the amount of ingenuity Nigerians have and all these great legal luminaries in no time within the next week or so, we will arrive at some conclusion which will enable the country to move forward on this matter.
“But I think we should decide what our law says and we should hold everybody accountable to obey the law. Even President Muhammadu Buhari must follow the law,” he said.

PDP candidate pledges to revive state
Standard-Bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ) in Kaduna State , Isa Ashiru, yesterday blamed Governor Nasir El - Rufai for poor governance and backwardness of the state .
Ashiru, who promised to return the state to the path of development and unity , spoke at a campaign rally in Zonkwa and Kachia, in Zango Kataf Local Government Area .A former governor of the state , Ahmed Makarfi, assured party supporters that Ashiru would return the state to peace , unity and development, if elected.
Also speaking at the rally , a former Aviation Minister and Kaduna State PDP Chairman , Felix Hassan Hyat , lamented that El - Rufai has plunged the state into hunger and kidnapping. He said : “I feel sorry for Kaduna State now that hunger, killings , large scale job losses and absence of development has been the trade mark of the APC under El -Rufai .
“When you vote for Ashiru, the PDP will take Kaduna State from its present backwardness and tyranny of power , to the days when the PDP constructed roads , built schools , hospitals , and provided rural areas with electricity and many more .”
Makarfi, a former Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the PDP , explained: “ When we came to power in 1999 , we found out then that Col . Hameed Ali , now Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service ( NCS) , had sacked workers in large numbers , but we returned most of them .

There's no other city nigeria that have developed rapidly as owerri in the last seven years since okorocha came to power. Absolutely none.

Sure, a lot of people don't like okorocha for one reason or the other, but the man came in and started building stuff. I personally don't like him for other reasons too, like not awarding contracts to reputable contractors who will do really very good job. But I like the guy for his free education system (the first in the SE) and more importantly, his urban renewal projects in owerri. There MUST be urban renewal projects in nigeria because, from day one, we practically built everything the wrong way. The urban renewal projects in owerri is far from being perfect, but it's better than nothing. Let's at least give credit to okorocha for thinking about this novel idea.

In the US, the one single barometer that is used to judge the rebirth of cities are urban renewal projects. I witnessed it first hand in Washington DC. By the late eighties, the city was dead, after an exodus of white people to the rapidly developing suburbs that started in the 60's. When this happened, the black population of the city shot up to 75% The city started coming back to life when this trend of moving to the suburbs by it's wealthy white residents were reversed in the late 90%'s. Today, with the city population being about 50% white and 50% black, the urban renewal which has continued unabated is a wonder to behold. Vast dilapidated areas of the city, especially around capitol hill with it's new baseball and soccer stadium are now full of mixed used developments.

Anybody living in DC in the eighties and today can hardly believe the turnaround. DC is back to being a world class city once again.

FIVE persons, including a first year student of the Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, Edo state, Collins Ojierakhi, have been allegedly killed by herdsmen in Ugboha, Esan South East Local and Odiguete Ovia North East Local Government Areas of Edo state.
Apart from the death, about twelve persons are currently hospitalized at the Benin Central Hospital and other private hospitals as a result of the attack by the herdsmen.

The incident at Ugboha occurred Friday night at about 7:30pm when the deceased Collins and his friends were on their way back to village from Uromi. Father of the deceased, Mr Festus Ojierakhi, narrated that ¨I am just confused. I was actually in the house resting at about 8pm and I started asking about my son who was not there. I was told he went to Uromi with his friends on a motorcycle. ¨It was around 9pm that the mother of my son´s friend started shouting, crying that herdsmen have killed her son. I rushed out of the house and I asked about my own son. I was told he died too with his friend. ¨We immediately detailed boys and ran to the place. When we got there we were told that the police had come to take the corpse to Ubiaja mortuary. I was told that my son and two others, including the friend died. They said the other person that died is an Igbo person. ¨The information we heard was that as my son was driving home with his Okada, the herdsmen and their cattle blocked the road and they waited for them to leave the road. Immediately they passed, some of their people in the bush opened fire on my son and his friends and they died at the spot. ¨I have been to the Area Commander’s office and they said they are investigating the matter. I don´t know what to do. This is a young boy that just entered university¨ he lamented. At Odiguete community in Ovia North East, it was learnt that the herdsmen invaded the community yesterday, shooting sporadically and in the process killed two persons. Vanguard learnt that the community and the herdsmen have been having running battle in the area for sometime now. However, some of the wounded persons were brought to the Benin Central hospital yesterday while the two dead persons were said to have been deposited at an undisclosed mortuary. When contacted, the Edo State Police Commissioner, Johnson Kokumo could not answer his phone, but one of his aids later picked and said the CP was in a meeting. Several calls made later to the CP was unanswered. The Public Relations officer of the Command, Mr Chidi Nwabuzor, who was also contacted said he was attending an event therefore cannot comment.
