PoliticsRivers Pensioners Beg Governor Wike Over Unpaid Benefits by LeeMason(op): 11:22am On Sep 30, 2020
Barely three weeks after the organised labour and the Rivers Government reached an agreement, which led to the suspension of a planned labour strike, pensioners again hit the streets, demanding unpaid emoluments.

The pensioners, who resumed their plea to the state government, said despite reaching an agreement to set up a tripartite committee to address their plights, nothing had been done yet.

Speaking on behalf of the senior citizens, the Secretary to the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Rivers State branch, Joseph Agbo, said the pensioners had yet to know their fate concerning the unpaid benefits.

He said, “When we had a meeting, it was agreed that the issue of pension, including gratuity, non-payment of death benefits; all were included, but until this moment, we don’t know our fate. The committee the government said it will set up; up till now, they have not done it, nothing has been done. "We have written to the Secretary to the State Government, requesting an audience so that we can explain our problems because if you are not a pensioner, you would not know much about the problems we face.“But up till now, our letter is just there, they don’t care. The government has no regard for their fathers; that is why they have no regard for pensioners in this state.”

PoliticsPetition For The UK And EU To Place Travel Ban On Mallam El Rufai Break Record by LeeMason(op): 3:56pm On Sep 16, 2020
Petition For EU/UK To Place a Travel Ban on El-Rufai Breaks All Time Record!

The petition initiated by former Presidential spokesman, Reno Omokri, for the UK/EU to follow the American lead and place a travel ban on the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has broken the previous record of highest signatures raised in a day for a political petition in Nigeria, set by the petition for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to probe former Lagos Governor, Bola Tinubu, for money laundering over bullion vans that entered into his premises on the eve of the February 23, 2019 Presidential elections.

That petitioned gathered 10,000 votes in 24 hours. However, the El-Rufai petition had gathered almost 11,000 votes (10,234) in less than 24 hours.

At 4PM on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, former Presidential spokesman and bestselling author, Reno Omokri, initiated a petition calling on the United Kingdom and the European Union to follow the US lead. The petition received over 5000 signatures by 4AM on Wednesday, September 16, 2020, a mere 12 hours after it was started, making it the fastest Nigerian political petition to hit that number.

Currently 10,234 have signed the petition and it is still under 24 hours old.

In the petition, Mr Omokri says:

Nasir El-Rufai is a threat to the peace and security of Nigeria for many reasons chief of which are that:

On December 3, 2016, he admitted that he paid killer herdsmen who killed Nigerian citizens, because they were of the same ethnicity as him. Since that admission, there has been an intense escalation of the killings of mostly Christians in Kaduna, and on August 25, 2020, suspected herdsmen abducted seven schoolchildren and their teacher from Prince Academy, in Kaduna. They have not been seen or heard of since then.

On September 8, 2014, Nasit El-Rufai falsely accused former President Jonathan and then President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor of founding and funding Boko Haram to the tune of N50 billion.
On January 27, 2013, he insulted the Lord Jesus Christ on Twitter.

On February 6, 2019, he threatened foreign observers, including observers from the EU and UK with death, warning that they would return in “body bags”, should they intervene in Nigeria.

On July 15, 2012, Nasir El-Rufai said, and I quote “We will write this for all to read. Anyone, soldier or not that kills the Fulani takes a loan repayable one day no matter how long it takes.” This threat has been carried out in Southern Kaduna were there is an ongoing genocide of Christians under El-Rufai’s watch.

On August 23, 2019, he charged the Anglican Bishop of Zaria province of Kaduna, Abiodun Ogunyemi, for defamation.

Nasir El-Rufai circulated an email circulated an email referring to Southern Nigerian women as whores.

On April 13, 2020, proving that the Apple does not fall far from the tree, his son, Bello El-Rufai threatened to gang rape the mother of a Southern Christian woman, proving that the idea that Southern women are “whores” is well established in the El-Rufai household.

On April 24, 2019, another of his sons, Bashir El-Rufai, described the pogrom against Igbos as “sweet”.

It is for this reason that Nigerian citizens call on the government of the United Kingdom and the European Union Presidency to follow the lead of the United States and place a visa ban on Nasir El-Rufai, who is scheming to become Nigeria’s President, to prevent a Rwandan style genocide in Nigeria.

It will be recalled that the United States Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, announced a travel ban on several unnamed Nigerian politicians, for their part in the perpetrating electoral violence in the Kogi and Bayelsa election.

Speaking on Monday September 14, 2019, Mr Pompeo had said:

“Today, the Secretary of State is imposing additional visa restrictions on individuals for their actions surrounding the November 2019 Kogi and Bayelsa State elections and in the run-up to the September and October 2020 Edo and Ondo State elections.”

It is widely believed that Nasir El-Rufai was one of such individuals.

BusinessCourt Orders Access Bank To Pay N5m To Customer; Declares PND Order Illegal by LeeMason(op): 8:41am On Sep 08, 2020
A Lagos high court has ordered Access Bank to pay the sum of N5 million to its customers, Blaid Construction Limited and Blaid Properties, for breach of bank-customer relationship.

The court also declared that a post-no-debit alert action by the bank and continued denial of the customers’ rights to access and operate their accounts since 2015 were unlawful, illegal and void except within the periods between July and September, 2016.

In a judgement dated August 13, Justice I.O Harrison of the Lagos high court noted that the judgement was delivered outside of the 90-day period prescribed by the 1999 constitution due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

She added, however, that the court is well aware of the facts of the case and submission of the counsels.

Details of the judgement, obtained by PREMIUM TIMES, showed that the suit was instituted against the defendant, Access Bank, in May 2017.

The claimants’ statement of claim include a declaration that the post no debit alert and continued denial of the claimants’ right to access or operate their bank accounts is illegal and unlawful; an order directing the defendant to immediately remove and take down the post no debit alert placed on the account; N500 million damages for breach of bank-customer relationship; and costs of the actions.

The court said the defendant filed its defence submission in June 2016 while the claimants filed a series of documents, including cheques, solicitors’ letters, among others.

Details showed that the defendant opened its case on October 22, 2019, by calling its sole witness, Olugbenga Kutemi, the zonal head business banking division of the bank. He adopted his statement on oath dated June 11th, 2019 and tendered two documents out of the six documents mentioned.

The court said that the post-no-debit alert placed on the claimants’ accounts was removed by the bank in December 2017.

PoliticsBayelsa APC Members Petition Mala Buni In Protest Against Timipre Sylva by LeeMason(op): 11:18am On Sep 03, 2020
AGGRIEVED APC MEMBERS PETITION CHAIRMAN CARETAKER COMMITTEE IN PROTEST AGAINST CHIEF SYLVA
...AS CRISIS ROCKS PARTY OVER BAYELSA SENATORIAL BYE ELECTIONS

The Bayelsa State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress has erupted in crisis barely two months month to the two senatorial bye elections scheduled scheduled for October 31, 2020.

Some aggrieved leaders of the APC from Bayelsa Central and Bayelsa West Senatorial Districts have forwarded a petition to the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the party against the conduct of the state’s party leader, Chief Timipre Syva.

The leaders who belong to the APC Constitutional and Due Process Vanguard òf the State chapter include Hon Godwin Sidi, Hon Dressman, Frank Oputu,(Bayelsa Central), Hon Peter Ozobo, Ebide Brown and Moses Hitler from Bayelsa West.

The aggrieved APC members who wrote the APC Caretaker Committee Chairman through their lawyer, Mr. Rueben Egwaba and Co, accused that the leader of the party, Chief Timipre Sylva and his supporters of a plot to impose candidates on the party without consultations.

The group, in the letter, called on the Caretaker Committee Chairman to stop Sylva and a few others from imposing candidates of their choice on the party to avert what they described an impending disaster against the party in the bye elections.

They alleged that Sylva who is neither from Bayelsa Central nor West where the senatorial bye elections are scheduled to take place is working to impose candidates who recently defected to the APC from the PDP and have not even spent the requisite number of days to qualify them for nomination for elective positions.

They alleged that Sylva Style of leadership especially his decision to work with a few members of the State Executive Committee and select only his cronies from his senatorial district for the few slots of federal appointments was responsible for his difference with Senator Heineken Lokpobiri and others which have factionalized the party in the state.

They stressed further that while the lingering disagreements have not been resolved, Sylva who is not from the two senatorial districts is working to impose candidates of his choice on the party without consulting leaders and stakeholders from the affected area.

The aggrieved APC members warned that the tendency to impose those who recently defected to the party when the party’s aborted victory in the gubernatorial election was already in sight to the exclusion of committed loyalists who had served the party with dedication would be counter productive.

They said further that the candidates being promoted by Chief Sylva and his group were unpopular and would weaken the party’s chances at the poll.

The group also urged the Caretaker Committee Chairman to take urgent steps to intervene in the plot by Sylva to impose a former Deputy Governor of State, Chief Peremobowei Ebebi, from Ekeremor local Government Area as the Party’s candidate for Bayelsa West in violation of an existing agreement on zoning in the district irrespective of party affiliation.

According to them, violation of the long standing agreement between Ekeremor and Sagbama to share the senatorial slot and the House òf Representative seat, would not be in the interest of the APC.

They stressed that fielding a candidate from Ekeremor as the party’s candidate for the Senatorial election when an Ekeremor man, Hon Fred Agbedi, occupies the House òf Reps seat would put the party in a difficult situation.

They said that the Bayelsa Central Senatorial has the same complaints about sidelining critical and long standing members in favor of defectors from the PDP.

The group which threatened legal action against the planned willful imposition of candidates, alleged that “the Sylva loyalists are bent on pushing this provocation through fraudulent primaries where figure will just be collated and allocated to people.”

The MPR is the benchmark interest rate of the CBN and it is presently 12.5 per cent. This implies bank customers will now get 1.25 per cent as a minimum interest rate on their savings deposit.

directive to banks signed by Bello Hassan, Director of Banking Supervision, CBN.

“All deposit money banks are hereby informed that effective September 1, 2020, interest on local currency savings deposit shall be negotiated subject to a minimum of 10percent of Monetary Policy Rate (MPR)”, the CBN said.
