Last Saturday, 6 February, the police disrupted a gay wedding between the two men in Abuja. The wedding between Abdul Lawal (right) who is supposed to be the husband and Umar Tahir (left) the wife, was supposed to hold at King’s Land Hotel in Abuja. Acting on a tip off, the police laid siege at the venue of the wedding.

Guests had already started arriving the venue of the wedding which was well decorated. The bride and groom who are both from Kaduna State were immediately arrested when they arrived at the venue and taken to the Gwagwa Police Station where they were detained.

Witnesses present at the scene said that during the raid, Abubakar Tahir and Mohammed Sani who are both the sponsors of the wedding were arrested by the police. The owner of the hotel was also arrested.

The 90-year-old woman, Hajia Fadimatu Mai Talle Tara, who donated N1million of her life’s savings to Buhari Presidential Campaign Organisation last year is dead. She died this morning at her home.
She was a popular food vendor in Koko, Koko/Besse Local Government Area of Kebbi State. She was a widow and is survived by 15 children and 15 grandchildren.

A 30-year-old woman, Suraya Chantell Pillay from Oakbridge was savagely mauled to death by a pack of six pit bull terriers near a local drug den off Rucklen Place in South Africa in the early hours of Saturday, 6 February. The vicious dogs took off big chunks of flesh from her neck, chest and arms and deep lacerations to the bone on her legs.

Sister of late Chantell, Angel Pillay spoke to The Phoenix, she said Chantell was a good person, and despite the fact that she was a drug habit, she would work by doing odd jobs to support it. “She was a very generous and kind person”

The deceased had allegedly been an addict for at least seven years and was known to visit the area where her body was found. According to members of her family, she stopped going there for a few months and only recently returned and they are not sure why.

Pillay would leave the house in the morning and always returned at night by 9pm and rarely at midnight, but never after. The family is at a loss to understand why she would have stayed out after the curfew that she had kept in recent months.

According to South Africa Police Service (SAPS), a witness called the police after they heard a woman scream and they managed to chase the dogs away. Phoenix communication office said:

The witnesses claim that they had to chase the dogs away by throwing stones at them before they could leave the victim. The dogs are currently unidentified and no witnesses have come forward to identify the dogs or the owner.

A witness who claimed to have been present at the scene alleges that the victim was completely naked, except for a brown cloth covering her private area. This fact is extremely significant to her sister who says that Suraya left the house that morning wearing blue jeans and a long sleeved black top- which has not been located.

”We hope that people who know who is responsible will come forward and name the pet owner responsible for this. My sister did not deserve to die this way.” Ms Pillay said.

No arrests or charges have been made.

Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) have scheduled Friday, February 12 for the candle night to honour the late Nollywood comedian, Peter Onwuzurike Onyehidelam popularly known as Dede One Day. This is in preparation for the burial of late comedian-turned-actor in Owerri, Imo State.

The candle night which would be hosted by the Imo State chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria is programmed to hold at Freedom Square in Owerri

The Chairman of AGN, Mr Conac Umez said he regrets the unexpected death of the actor who was friendly with Guild and further described him as one actor whose role may not be replaced by another within a long period of time.

Conac assured the family of the late actor that the Guild will be there to proffer necessary support to offer the late comedian a befitting burial.

Dede One Day, who became popular for his ‘Laugh With Me’ work, passed on after battling with high blood pressure in the early morning of December 14, 2015, after performing at an event in Aba.

Dede who anchored a program for the Abia state’s Peoples Democratic Party Secretary, Mr. Charles Esonu in Aba later left there for Ugwunagbo for another event he was contracted to anchor, but he couldn’t conclude it. He was rushed from the event to hospital over blood pressure related issue and later died.

He would be buried on Saturday, February 13 in his country home, Umuduruori Umuarusilam Umuagwuru Mbieri, Imo state, Dede One Day is survived by wife, children and family.
