If Nigeria were Japan, I guess we would have had an everlasting excuse to never develop. We would have blamed the atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima as a reason for our underdevelopment. And believe me, people would justify and understand our plight. Do you know what the atomic bomb did to that place? Read about it. For years, not even grass could grow there. Millions died. But not Japan. They rose from the ashes to become one of the strongest economy, and most industrialized country in the world.

Germany should have had a valid excuse too!! For years after WWII, they were Balkanized and occupied by both America and Russia. They were set back in development by decades. But not Germany, they rose from the ashes of the war to become the strongest economy in Europe!

What about China? Go read what Japan did to China during WWII. Chinese were so loathed by Japanese who overran and occupied China that Japanese, asides using Chinese women as prostitutes, actually ate Chinese people. Chinese meat was a staple on Japanese dinner table and they ate the meat with relish. Yet China rose from the ashes to become a world economy.

What really has been our excuse in Nigeria? Slavery? Slavery of which century?

Biafra? Of which year? We are exhuming an ancient fossilized grudge to further set us back again? In this dispensation, three Igbo people have been elected into the House of Representatives to represent constituencies in Lagos. In Lagos, outside igboland!! And Igbos are a marginalized minority?

What is wrong with Nigeria huh huh

How this one con concern Wizkid?

dignity33:
I read people comments about disappearing of Nnamdi Kanu and I discovered that Nigerians are totally enslaved by this Buhari regime.

People tend to believe the useless cover up made by Army that Nnamdi Kanu is hiding or that he might have cross to Cameroon and i laughed . I earlier wrote that Nnamdi Kanu and parents was either killed or in Government custody but they refuse to believe me, let me give some reason while Nnamdi Kanu is not hiding.

If you can recall the first time soldiers came near his house were two people was killed Nnamdi Kanu came out the following day address the press outside his house which means he was in the House during the time they came.

Nnamdi kanu can never hide because he made it know that he is ready to lose his life for Biafra, this is the man who leave everything for Biafra talk of good life he is enjoying in London, from a noble family even after bail condition he still defiled all and continue the struggle and not even the intimidation by army during the Ebonyi state rally that stop him but keep on and on attending other rallies accross the Biafra land.

Have you ask yourself why are the issue of biafra now is giving the Government sleepless night after invading Nnamdi Kanu house? Because they murdered Nnamdi Kanu that is why after the operation IPOB was quickly proscribed in South East and tagged terrorist Organization by Nigeria Government within a week, now looking for international backing should in case the issue of Nnamdi Kanu killing come up so they can called him terrorist.

Have you ask yourself why was Buhari sent some northern Governors to Eastern region for peace and thereafter VP and IG of police to Abia to meet with Governor? The reason is that Ikpazue was angry that Nnamdi Kanu was killed by army so all those peace visit was to Console him and promised him more Government package, visiting other state was to make it not look suspicious, has Buhari ever sent people for peace before in the past the answer Is no why was it that all this was happening after Kanu home was invaded by soldier.

No time has his brother mention that Kanu hiding position will not be disclosed did you watch him in any video is Government cover up story to make it look as if Kanu are hiding, if Kanu is hiding his brother can never said such. Kanu brother have accused Government of kidnapping Kanu and his parent that he has no knowledge of their way about since after there house was invadad by army.

IPOB or his lawyers can not wrote to World leaders and UN to asked Nigeria Government to release Nnamdi Kanu if Kanu is hiding let us use our brain propaganda may be a weapon of war but there are limit.

So if Government who are holding Kanu and parent will denial that, it means that Kanu has being murdered by army and probable buried somewhere which I don't wish.

PoliticsThe Origin Of 'mammy Markets' In Nigerian Army Barracks by Legolast(op): 2:34pm On Sep 26, 2017
The Origin of 'Mammy Markets' in Nigerian Army Barracks

What is now known as"Mammy Market" in all barracks nationwide, came to be as a result of the industry of Mrs Anthony Ochefu. Thanks to an Idoma local brew called "enyi". Now, nobody remembers to recognise this history maker and accord the honour due to her.

In 1959, Mammy Ode, a young girl from Jericho-Ugboju in the present Otukpo local government area of Benue state was married to Anthony Aboki Ochefu, a young non-commissioned military officer who had just been posted to Enugu from Abeokuta.

They were quartered at the Army Barracks, Abakpa, Enugu. To beat idleness and perhaps earn some money to support her young family, Mrs Mammy Ochefu established a business of selling soft drinks. She also prepared gruel, which is popularly called 'Umu or enyi' in Idoma, or kunu in Hausa, for sale to the soldiers in the barrack to help quench their thirst and energise them.

She soon became popular with selling "umu" as soldiers trooped to her house to buy the local brew made from guinea corn. Some of her customers were officers, who always send their batmen to buy the gruel for them, Monday through Friday and even during the weekend when they are not working.

Somehow, one of the non-commissioned officers, the RSM, did not flow with the enthusiasm, which Mammy’s gruel generated among other military men in the barracks. He complained that the stuff was attracting flies into the barracks and ordered Mrs Mammy Ochefu to stop its production and sale.

Though disappointed at the order of the RSM, she stopped the production and sale of "umu" in the barrack. For weeks, Mrs Mammy Ochefu agonized over the fate of her business, just as officers and men of the Nigerian Army who enjoyed her brew because of its freshness and nutritional value lamented over the situation.

From several quarters, pressure mounted on the RSM for a reversal of the order. After a while, he succumbed to and directed that a section of the barrack be reserved for Mrs. Mammy Ochefu to produce and sell her "umu".

Her joy knew no bound few days after a section of the barracks was allocated to her for the purpose of selling the Idoma local brew within the barrack. She built a small stall for her business and soon, her business began to boom. Most of her customers booked far in advance for the quantity of "umu" they want to buy. Before noon, she would have finished selling the available "umu" for the day.

Soon, other women in the barracks became inspired by her industrious nature and tapped into her industry and started selling other items like burukutu, pito, palm wine, kain-kain and other alcoholic beverages in addition to pepper soup and other delights for the relaxation of the rant and file in the evenings when they close from work and they are permitted to drink alcoholic beverages.

It was not long before that portion of the barracks became known as mammy market. It also became a policy to establish markets inside or near military barracks in the country, initially for the exclusive use of officers and men of the rank and file.

Today, no visit to Abuja, the Federal Capital City, is complete without a taste of fresh fish in one of the mammy markets, especially the one attached to Abacha Barrack. Similar markets attached to paramilitary barracks are also called mammy markets.

After General Yakubu Gowon was overthrown in a military putsch, Anthony Aboki Ochefu, then a Colonel, was posted to East Central state as military governor. So Mrs Mammy Ochefu and her husband returned to Enugu as the first family. As first lady, Mammy Ochefu visits the site where mammy market started about sixteen years earlier.

It must also be stressed too that in retirement, Colonel Anthony Aboki Ochefu and his wife incorporated a company called Mammy Markets, which was into haulage and trading.

Mrs Mammy Ochefu is alive and lives at Otukpo as one of the prized legends of our time.

Major General Kaleosho (rtd) has written on the origin of the name mammy markets in Nigerian Army Barracks

PoliticsThe Almajiri System In The Southern Part Of Nig by Legolast(op): 6:25am On Sep 21, 2017
THE ALMAJIRI SYSTEM IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF NIGERIA

I am very lucky to have the opportunity of being fathered by a man whose passion for culture and identity is undisputable but fathoming. An Almajiri, a Kanuri man originally from Borno has never cease or escape his responsibilities as a father. His love for equality in ensuring quality education of his children is what he has always advocate. Mr. Muhammad Abacha Tahir Jere is indeed an indomitable father.

While I was growing up in the south,(because I stood the chance to be brought up there) I initially was not priviledged to attend the normal islamiyyah schools for my basic education. It was my mother's prefered choice which our father failed to grant, until later he got us enrolled into a nearby Mallam Mustapha islamiyya for evening classes. My father is an ardent supporter of the Almajiri system(as it was). He's a product of the system who had memorized the Qur'an before he left the school in the early 70s for other businesses of life.

The Almajiri system has it root dating back to about two millenia, worldwide. Nevertheless, in Nigeria, the system had survived a considerable number of centuries. It is still, a system that lived until the present days. It is erroneously mistaken to be a system that trends only in the northern part of Nigeria. However, Almajiri system has thrived for long in the south as well. It survives from the centuries of invasion of the northerners, muslims in particular, especially the Hausa-Fulanis and the Kanuris. Until the 21st century, when the need to reform the system emerged, the the Almajiri schools has been dominant over the nowadays Islamiyyahs(as reformed). ''This might be a digress''.

As a muslim ward, who was growing to become a responsible figure in the future, my parents realized and worked on the need to send me to school in other acquire the basic knowledge of my religion, which will serve as one of my yardstick later in life. I got enrolled into an almajiri school at a very young age. I was not wearing a meagre clothing, i was not putrid, I was still under the cares of my mother. I was a babbling child whose parent want him to babble with the famous ''Alif, Ambaki, wau, zal.....et. Cetra et. Cetra.

I knew I come from a responsible family. I come from a polygamous family of A father, two wives and an existing 14 children. Me being the eightht of them. Interestingly, we both had the almajiri experience which has cut across gender dichotomy. With the exceptions of two ladies who are being nurtured in the north from their starts.

Like most of the Almajiris in the north, the young, poor me also come from a humble background. I could say during my growing period and my subsequent siblings, my father was witnessing a serious detriment on his own personal economy which has an authentic and automatic volatile effect on the family in its entirety. Meanwhile as a responsible father, he remain in continuous struggles to reach his family ends meet.

During all the good times and the hard times, none of his almajiri children had pick a bowl to beg on the streets. I was between the age of two and three while I had started my own almajiri school. I began to use slate at the age between 6-7( my second session in an Anglican primary school, St. Peter), but never a begging bowl. That has been the norms.

It is noteworthy to add that; most people who inhabits the north, especially the sardine part of them, who had never been to the south might not know whether the Almajiri system exists therein. It is indeed ironic. The system is all over but different. Similarly, it is possible a quiet number of the southerners, Who lived there too do not know whether the system exists there as well. Albeit, its being their place because the northerners are unlike the other tribes who settle dispersedly everywhere they are found fits in. The Hausa particularly had always live as a community and sometimes in isolation. They always pretend to be living in the north without foregoing their cultures( if not now that I have longed been away from the south.).

Unlike my father and some of my siblings, I really did not memorize the Qur'an just like it is usual to most of the present days Almajiris here in the north. But, I have memorized up to a ten juz' and a number of hadith (zsince the almajiri system is mainly this). The qawa'idi and fiqh and seerah and full tajweed are mostly learn in the evening session of islamiyya.

An almajiri will always be a fawning servant of his Mallam. Severally, So many weird thing were learn and even practiced at home. We share sweeping, everything's arranged in roster, we washed Mallams wife plates, even though i have never washed mallams cap talk more of his big babbar riga and turban, I have uncountably fetched water, numerously, I have trades mallam's wife Sweets and beverages within the assembly( tsangaya), we have fetched sand from a far distance river to fill the pot holes and the eroded parts of tsangaya, we worked tremendously, like bricklayers when Mallam was renovating an old house he had bought closer to the tsangaya. Severally, we wrote verses on slates( allon sha). We have severally ate Mallam's left over and overnight food. I have watched for several times as my Almajiris counterpart had hunted for mice in the tsangaya. We have received lashes for coming late and many corporal punishment for not passing the reading test....et.Cetera et. Cetera

However, the interesting part of the system is that; It is not in the responsibility of the Mallam or the Ulemas to host for the almajiris accomodation and feeding, primarily. Instead, the tsangaya was given out as a free accommodation to other people who came as labourers from the north and are homeless in the night. The tsangaya is ordinarily an educational institution, for learning and character, not a family institution. I could remember, an ''almajiri child'' has no right to cease or absent self from school(where western education is acquired), it is punishable by the tsangaya authority or ulemas( if seen/caght or reported). Begging by any almajiri student is strictly prohibited and also punishable immensely by law.
The school is not sponsored, owned and managed or ran by any government but by the working class ulema,(who can establish islamiyyahs but yet retain ther tsangaya system) and also the weekly tithes of a 'then', a fixed amount of #20 parents are mandated to pay to the treasury of the tsangaya through the treasurer or financial secretary every blessed and Faithful Wednessday( for people like myself who do not mostly attend during the weekdays because of school are allowed to extend payment until weekend). Even though a more than the fixed amount is welcomed and duely appreciated.

Within the short period of time i have lived, I have transverse all the states in the southwest of Nigeria, I have never came across an almajiri student who has not know his father's house talk more of roaming the streets. Albeit, Almajiris are found and seen, not only the northerners but including the southerners, but are rarely roaming the street.

There are regulations by the communities and sometimes their different governments from states down to local governments on the issues of humanitarian crisis, including the need to curb the menace of Almajiris roaming the streets. Evry parts of the states I am priviledge to visit in the south, I saw an avenue. It is an avenue which serve as an assembly of the the extremely less priviledge and the physically challenged, generally refered to as almajiris called ''GADA'' (Bridge). In most cases, the northerners had always outnumbered the southerners. Nobody harasses them, unless they tresspass.

The case of the system of Almajiri is debilitating in the north, hence pathetic. However, those who have been in or to the north and the even the south could spot the differences. However, this could be a digress, perhaps a fresh discourse on its own.

I still belive the Almajiri original system is good while the menace can be mitigated.

The Ibos want Biafra
The North wants Ibo's exit
The Yorubas want Ibo's exit
The Ibos are saying "we have investments in your areas and cannot leave them"
And the fight is being cooked.

Amongst all these, the President is in London
Governors are sharing bailout funds
Workers salaries are not paid
Government officials have their children schooling abroad
Ministers and senators are looting

The poor Hausa man is riding Okada
The poor Ibo man is riding Okada
The poor Yoruba man is riding Okada

The poor Hausa man sleeps under the bridge as Alamajiri
The poor Yoruba man sleeps under the bridge as Alaye
The poor Ibo man sleeps under the bridge as agbero

It is pertinent to note that the poor from all ethnic groups in Nigeria have everything in common and so is the rich.

Do not allow the agitation of an Ibo man who lives in UK or USA for Biafra cause the killing of the Ibo man in Adamawa. The rich hate us that much.
Do not allow the Alhaji whose children are living abroad to persuade you to go and start killing on the street of Kaduna.

The problem in the country is not the agitation of any ethnic group but the unity of the elite and the disunity of the masses.

How many times have you taken your agitation to question your local government Chairmen?

Why have you not asked your Governors through agitation how they spent bailout fund?

Why have you not agitated against that government official whose mansions you go to beg for help?

Sad to note;
All the Governors love themselves
All the past Presidents love themselves
All the senators love themselves
All the top government officials love themselves
All the looters love themselves

Why can't you and I love ourselves?
Why cant we combine efforts and fight them?
Why do we fight ourselves?
Why do we allow them the freedom we don't have?

[/b] Remember; a good Nigeria is better than a good Arewa, Oduduwa or Biafra.

PoliticsIpob: Love Adds No Pain ...but Hate..? by Legolast(op): 7:31am On Sep 17, 2017
IPOB: LOVE ADDS NO PAIN
...but hate..?

In a country of 370 ethnic groups, when a "freedom fighter's'" job/role is to brainwash/incite his ethnic group to HATE the remaining 369 others; the outcome will always be one thing: alienation! Naturally, the other 369 will return the gesture. The hater feels the pain.

Thankfully, pleasant things happen during unfortunate circumstances. And that's why I once again salute all those who did not fight back in spite of the mocks and taunts. Our humanity is greater than all the hate folks can muster.

To everyone who helped deescalate the growing but unnecessary tension, I'm proud. It is the enablers of the hatred of Nnamdi and his wicked IPOB that did/does not see the danger in their ways. They goaded him. They goaded them. Even up on till now, they still do. But Nigerians have left IPOB, Nnamdi and the enablers behind. Nigerians prefer progress to bitterness. It's a lesson...

To all those writing empty letters to UN, EU, AU, etc, continue. You will soon get tired too. The world is not wired through your eyes. The world knows what's going on. Just pray that the declaration of IPOB as a terror gang by the military is not taken seriously by government. Pray the AG or NSA does not go further. Otherwise all of you who live abroad but stoke fire at home will not only end up in jail but you will be sent back home koboless. You know, soon as FG follows the rules, it becomes an international matter... Be properly guided.

Problem is you all pretend not to know the dangers IPOB represents. You think it's about rights to this and that. Fine. But we know better now. Let's keep the peace. Hold your governors to account if not satisfied. Don't let them fool you by telling you Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba people collected all the money and control everything. They are lying. They are lying o!

It's about politics dressed in borrowed robes. They call it agitation for freedom, whereas nobody is in bondage. Because if you are in bondage, you won't even talk or claim any rights.
