When you have election integrity, then you can campaign against Adeleke.

I agree that election integrity should be the focus. Elections must be free and fair, and vote buying or manipulation should be condemned regardless of who is involved.

But look at what is happening here. Sowore criticised Adeleke, and immediately people started attacking him as though criticising an opposition politician automatically makes him an APC supporter. Yet when Sowore criticises Tinubu or APC, many of the same people praise him as a fearless activist speaking truth to power.

Even in his response to Davido, Sowore did not suddenly start praising APC. He criticised Adeleke and, in the same breath, criticised Tinubu, APC and the entire political class. So where exactly is the APC agent argument coming from?

This is precisely the selective politics I am talking about. If vote buying, corruption, incompetence or bad governance is wrong, it should remain wrong regardless of the political logo.

You can demand election integrity and still criticise Adeleke. You can criticise APC and still criticise Adeleke. You don't have to choose one side and defend everything they do.

The real test of political principles is whether you can maintain the same standard when the person involved is the politician you support.

The fact that I do not reside in Osun state should not permit me to make such unguided statement as Sowore’s, or not show interest in events in the state. Osun state is part of the entire nation. All eyes are on the state as it stands.

If the people of Osun state are at ease and happy with their governor, dancing or having something in the brain becomes irrelevant.

Look at the Abia state governor as our example. All other candidates know that their efforts would become futile, as far as that seat is for the next five years. The citizens do not need to be offered bribes. The governor delivers. If Adeleke delivers, he’s educational level should become irrelevant to the citizens. If he provides their social needs and ensures security, what’s Sowore’s problem?

Regarding changing parties and support of candidates. It is the practice in our country, where tribalism, ethnicity and religious inclinations have become a big issue. Politicians brought it upon themselves and the citizens. Developed democracies talk about left leaning, right leaning, social democrats, far right, centrists, etc. Sadly we do not have such. We have stomach infrastructure politics, borrowing from Ayo Fayose.

Is it right to seat on the fence and watch some wrong individuals get into positions of power? No. As citizens, we must rise up, face them and ensure that only politicians who can make our nation and societies better get into positions. So your brain should move with them everytime they move, ensuring that they only do what makes living better for all. If they find that you understand their deceit, they certainly will either give up or ensure to do what they promised during campaigns and were voted to do.

You are actually proving my point. I never said people outside Osun should not have an opinion about Osun. I said you should know what you are talking about before jumping online to attack people simply because of partisan politics.

If you disagree with Sowore's statement about Adeleke, argue the substance of what he said. Tell us why the statement is wrong. Don't turn it into he is against our governor, or he is supporting APC so he must be wrong.

And this is where the double standard comes in. If the same statement had been made about an APC governor by Sowore or by someone from the opposing side, would you and those defending Adeleke today be condemning it with the same energy? Or would you be laughing and saying, He has said the truth?

A governor's performance is a separate argument. If Adeleke is doing well, show us what he has achieved and defend his record. If someone makes an unfair personal statement about him, you can condemn the statement without turning the governor into someone who cannot be criticised.

That is the difference between supporting a politician and worshipping a political side.

There is a difference between saying a particular party is bad and deciding that you will never vote for any candidate from that party, regardless of the state or the individual contest, and someone who does not look at the party first but judges each candidate on their own merit.

If you like play politics of hatred, but that does not mean everybody has to think that way. You cannot compare my political reasoning with yours because we are clearly looking at politics from different perspectives.

In 2023, I voted for Tinubu under APC. In 2026, I did not vote for APC in my state governorship election. Yet in 2027, I can still vote for Tinubu under APC if I believe he remains the better choice.

That is the difference between playing politics of hatred that no matter the candidate, so as long its APC then its automatically hatred for you and playing politics of choice.

I don't owe any political party my permanent loyalty. How are you different from political thugs?. My loyalty is to the candidate I believe deserves my vote at that particular time. If the candidate is good, I vote for him. If I don't believe in the candidate, I don't vote for him, regardless of the party logo beside his name.

I was working with an elevator company as an Elevator Technician when I came to Nigeria. A few months later, I received a message on LinkedIn from a man who wanted to establish an elevator company. He told me he needed me to help build the company and serve as the Lead Elevator Engineer. I agreed to the offer, resigned from my previous employment, and joined his company.
A few weeks after I resumed, I noticed that the man began involving me in some of his other businesses, including his paper business and other activities unrelated to elevator engineering. I did not initially complain, but this began affecting my career and the work I was employed to do.

I also observed how he treated some of his other employees. On several occasions, I witnessed him verbally harassing and physically mistreating staff, including slapping them.

Regarding my own employment, the man has little or no technical knowledge of elevator engineering. Whenever I made professional recommendations or raised concerns about technical decisions, he often rejected them. However, when the consequences of those decisions occurred, he would blame me heavily and make me feel as though I was incompetent or did not know what I was doing.

The major incident occurred on a Friday. After completing our normal schedule for the day, I planned to repair the company's generator because I knew we had a very demanding schedule on Monday and I wanted to ensure that the generator was functioning properly beforehand.

The man repeatedly ordered me to return to the office. I politely explained to him, "Sir, if we don't fix this generator now, it could delay us on Monday." Despite my explanation, he continued insisting that I return to the office. Based on the previous circumstances and my assessment of the situation, I refused to immediately leave the generator.

He then came out of his vehicle and approached me aggressively, appearing as though he wanted to physically assault me. I tried to move away from him to avoid a confrontation. However, he grabbed my clothing and pulled it forcefully, causing one of my buttons to come off.

There were police officers present at the scene. He ordered them to put me into his vehicle, but they refused after witnessing what had happened. He then called other police officers on patrol, who subsequently arrested me.

At the police station, he made several allegations against me, including an allegation that I was the person who assaulted him. I was detained from Friday until Monday. During this period, he allegedly gave money to the police officers. My mother eventually came to the station on Monday and secured my release.

I was told that he would only allow me to be released on the condition that I sign an undertaking stating that I would continue working for him. I was under significant pressure and had already spent several days in detention, so I agreed to sign the undertaking in order to secure my release.

Immediately after I signed the undertaking, his treatment of me became worse. At the end of the month, he deducted two days' pay from my salary. I asked him why the money had been deducted because, to the best of my knowledge, I had not missed those two working days. He told me that the deduction was for the days I had spent in police detention.

I became upset about this and returned to the police station to report the matter. However, the police were unable to recover the money for me.

I subsequently informed him that if he expected me to continue working for him, I wanted my salary to be paid weekly, with my monthly salary divided into four payments. He refused this arrangement. Since then, I have not resumed work.

I now believe that because the undertaking did not prevent me from stopping work, he has decided to pursue an assault case against me. I have now been invited to the police station tomorrow in connection with the alleged assault.

I maintain that I did not assault him. I attempted to avoid a physical confrontation when he approached me aggressively, and he was the person who grabbed my clothing and pulled it.

I am concerned about what may happen at the police station tommorow and would like proper legal advice and protection regarding my rights, the alleged assault case, the undertaking I signed under pressure, my unpaid/deducted wages, and the circumstances surrounding my previous detention.

I never said every legitimate business needs a human face or that every wealthy business owner must be famous. Of course there are manufacturers, importers, commodity traders, oil businesses, whose products are known far more than the owners. That is exactly why I separated fame from connections.

My main point from the beginning was actually about Ochacho.

If Ochacho is genuinely a billionaire, as people claim and as he himself claims, then he doesn't necessarily need to be famous before he can have connections and power.

If he built that wealth legitimately through normal business over many years, think about what that process would involve. A business worth billions of naira doesn't become that way by operating in isolation. Over the years, he would likely have dealt with major suppliers, wealthy customers, banks, investors, government institutions, other businessmen, large companies and people who themselves have influence and power.

He does not need millions of Nigerians to know his name. He only needs to have built relationships with the right people.

That is actually the basis of my argument.

If his wealth was made illegally, then fame may become particularly useful because fame can provide public visibility and a kind of social protection. The more people know you, the harder it becomes to simply make you disappear from public or control the narrative around you.

But if the wealth was legitimately built through years of successful business, then he doesn't need fame to create those connections. The business itself can put him in rooms with powerful people.

That's why I do not think we should use Ochacho's fame as proof that fame is necessary for someone at his level to have power or connections. We do not even know how his wealth was made, and aside from people who know Nairaland, how many Nigerians can actually explain his wealth by saying, "He owns Nairaland"?

And yes, I agree that fame is a form of power.

Wizkid can probably get away with things an ordinary person cannot because of his fame. That is power. VDM can gain connections because his fame puts him in contact with people who otherwise wouldn't know him. That's also true.

But that is precisely the point. Fame is one route to power and connections. It is not the definition of power or the only route to connections.

Someone can become powerful because they are famous.

Someone else can become powerful because they are extremely wealthy.

Another person can become powerful because of political office.

Another because of institutional authority.

Another because of their connections.

And someone can also have several of these at once.

So when I say connections are power, I am not saying fame is not power. I'm saying they are different forms of power that can overlap.

And I agree with you that fame can create connections. If someone has no connections and becomes massively famous, people will start approaching them, and their network can grow.

But the reverse is also true. You can have extremely powerful connections without being famous.

A businessman importing billions of naira worth of goods does not need 1m followers. He may have five extremely valuable relationships with manufacturers, major distributors, bankers, government officials and other businessmen. Those five relationships could give him more practical power within his industry than 1m followers.

So my argument isn't "fame is useless."

Think about it well. You can be famous with 10m or 5m followers without necessarily having real connections or power. But it is very difficult to become a dollar billionaire, or build a business worth hundreds of billions of naira legally over many years without developing serious connections, influence and power along the way.

At that level, you must have dealt with powerful people, major businesses, banks, investors, government institutions, suppliers and wealthy individuals.

So fame and connections are not the same thing. You can have fame without power, but it is hard to build enormous legitimate wealth without accumulating some form of power and connections along the way.

So either way, legitimate wealth can naturally create influence and connections.

That is why I would not confuse popularity with power.

Popularity is being known by many people.

Connections are having relationships with people who have access, influence and the ability to make things happen.

And in many situations, connections are power.

Money can open the first door. Your reputation and relationships determine how many doors stay open.
