Something like that.

Kenya is just about 55 million people, that is less than 25% of Nigeria, if they are now importing more used clothes, then something positive is happening
what of Ghana that was second in importing used cloth in 2023. Does it mean 95% of Ghanaians can't afford new cloths.

These players are joggers, not footballers. Instead of putting pressure on Zimbabwe and securing a 3-0 lead in the first half, they were busy jogging around. Until Nigeria gets rid of these egoistic players, the team will not go far in African football.
PoliticsRe: Bill To End HND, Bsc Dichotomy Scales Second Reading by Lekan239(m): 11:27pm On Mar 23, 2025
simpleseyi:
Nonsense Bill. HND and Polytechnics should be scrapped, SIMPLE.

I went to Fed Poly Offa, and YabaTech and I have three Masters degrees, currently running the fourth one. Don’t ask me what I’m doing with them, it’s not your business.

On my CV and on Linkedln, I list my education from ND, HND, PGD, MSc-1, MSc-2, MSc-3. I intentionally start from ND so that any viewer can see that I am a Polytechnic product and I am stubbornly proud of it.

However, Polytechnics have been scrapped in US and UK where Nigeria copied it from. As a matter of fact, one of the two foreign universities I attended and currently attend, used to be a Polytechnic, but has been merged with another higher college and converted to a university. So, why is Nigeria hanging on a dead institution?

All Polytechnics should be merged with other colleges or universities. SIMPLE
Your argument contradicts itself. You proudly list your ND and HND on your CV and LinkedIn, yet you call for polytechnics to be scrapped. If polytechnics are so useless, why acknowledge them in your academic journey? Clearly, they played a role in your education.

Also, the fact that some polytechnics in the UK and US were converted to universities doesn’t mean polytechnic education was scrapped—it evolved. Those countries still value technical and vocational education, which is why they have community colleges, technical institutes, and trade schools that produce highly skilled professionals.

Nigeria’s problem is not polytechnics—it is the stigma and lack of proper investment in technical education. Instead of scrapping them, we should modernize and integrate them into the economy like other developed nations do.

At the end of the day, what matters is competence, not degree labels. If Nigeria scraps polytechnics, where will the hands-on technical experts come from? Universities? We both know the answer to that.
PoliticsRe: Bill To End HND, Bsc Dichotomy Scales Second Reading by Lekan239(m): 11:15pm On Mar 23, 2025
RepoMan007:
The bill is a misplaced one. The world all over, polytechnics/tech schools, on one hand, and universities serve different purposes. If the syllabus for Polytechnics has derailed over time due to pay disparity and thus labour market bias, let the boards or commission in charge take the appropriate actions and correct that instead of trying to convert one into the order by decree. All major manufacturing economies of the world have a clear path for polytechnics and universities. Only fakes like ours think rank is everything and skill is nothing.
Your argument assumes that the issue is about "converting" polytechnics into universities, but that is not the case. The bill does not seek to erase the distinction between polytechnics and universities; rather, it aims to eliminate the unnecessary bias that limits career growth for HND holders.

1️⃣ Different purposes, same workforce
Yes, polytechnics and universities serve different purposes, but at the end of the day, both produce professionals who enter the same job market. A graduate with a degree in Electrical Engineering from a university and another with an HND in Electrical Engineering often end up competing for similar jobs—yet one is unfairly restricted in career advancement, not based on skill, but on qualification bias. That’s the problem.

2️⃣ Global best practices? Nigeria is the outlier
You mentioned "all major manufacturing economies" have clear paths for polytechnics and universities. That is true, but what you fail to acknowledge is that in those same countries, polytechnic graduates are not treated as second-class professionals. In Germany, the UK, and other developed nations, technical and vocational graduates rise to the top based on competence, not degree titles. Nigeria, unfortunately, operates a paper-driven system, where titles matter more than actual skills.

3️⃣ Fixing the system, not the name
I agree that polytechnic education in Nigeria has been affected by pay disparity and labor market bias. But how do you fix that without addressing the discrimination? If HND holders are not given equal opportunities, how will polytechnic education attract top talents? Instead of restricting career growth for polytechnic graduates, we should be improving the system and modernizing the curriculum to ensure parity in knowledge, competence, and opportunity.

4️⃣ Rank is not everything, but neither is discrimination
You claim that “only fakes think rank is everything and skill is nothing.” Yet, Nigeria’s job market operates on ranking over merit, which is why many employers reject HND holders outright before even testing their skills. If skill is what matters, why not judge candidates based on competence instead of qualification hierarchy?

🔹 Bottom line: The bill is not about turning polytechnics into universities—it is about ending unnecessary discrimination and allowing skilled individuals to progress based on merit. If polytechnic education is valued worldwide, why should Nigeria be any different?

immortalcrown:
1.
What inspired the bill? I mean, which crisis led to the proposal of the bill? They leave the problems in the country and make noise over trivial matters.

2.
Is it right for HND and BSc. to be treated equally when the processes of obtaining the both are not the same?

In my opinion, the bill is illogical.

I am not discriminating against anybody. I understand that a HND holder might be more intelligent and more skilled than a BSc. holder. But HND and BSc. cannot be the same as long as they are not obtained from the same institution. The point is that whoever wants BSc. should go to a university and whoever wants HND should go to a polytechnic. Why will someone who settled for police job fight to be seen and addressed as a soldier after joining the police?

If you could not go to a university because of some challenges that were beyond your control, it is understandable. But don't unleash your frustration on BSc. holders. If you manage to graduate from a university with BSc., do not mock or intimidate HND holders. But it is illogical to rate BSc. and HND equal.

If they want HND and BSC to be equal, the requirements for HND should be exactly the same as the requirements for BSc.
If you claim that a JAMB score of 180 is sufficient for university admission, you should also acknowledge that more than 50% of polytechnic students score above 180. That being said, why should I even bother giving you my attention?"

Your argument is based on outdated distinctions that no longer hold weight in a modern, skills-driven economy. If we are to develop as a nation, we must recognize competence over mere institutional labels.

1️⃣ What inspired the bill?
The bill was proposed to address the long-standing discrimination against HND holders in the job market, despite many of them being equally skilled—or even more practically competent—than BSc holders. The crisis here is the systemic bias that limits career progression for HND holders, even when they meet or exceed job performance expectations.

2️⃣ Difference in academic processes?
Yes, the processes of obtaining a BSc and an HND are not exactly the same, but that doesn’t mean one is inherently superior to the other. Universities focus more on theoretical knowledge, while polytechnics emphasize practical and technical skills. Both serve different purposes, but in many cases, the skills acquired in polytechnics are more relevant to real-world applications.

3️⃣ The police vs. soldier analogy is flawed.
The comparison between police officers and soldiers does not apply here. A more accurate analogy would be comparing a doctor trained in a teaching hospital and another trained in a private medical college—both earn the same degree and are equally recognized in their profession. If polytechnics and universities are both recognized by the government, why should their graduates be treated differently?

4️⃣ Equalizing HND and BSc benefits everyone.
Rather than seeing this as an attempt to downgrade BSc holders, it should be seen as an effort to create fair opportunities based on skill and competence. In developed nations, polytechnic education is highly valued, and many diploma holders rise to top positions based on merit. If Nigeria wants to advance, we must eliminate unnecessary barriers and focus on performance, not paper qualifications.

5️⃣ A fair solution.
If the concern is that university admission requirements are different from polytechnics, the best approach would be to upgrade the entry and academic standards for HND programs rather than continuing discrimination. That way, both paths lead to the same opportunities, and no one is unfairly sidelined.

🔹 In conclusion, the focus should be on what individuals bring to the table, not where they studied. A more inclusive and skill-based system will benefit both BSc and HND holders alike, rather than creating unnecessary divisions.

And just to be clear, I am a proud polytechnic graduate myself, and I can confidently say that polytechnic graduates are just as capable as their university counterparts.

I love what is going on. That been said El Rufie is the sole reason Tinubu is president today so wetin them do am no good. However, El Rufie is a bad man and Tinubu is destroying this country. Whose side will I be El Rufie supporting a Southerner is my pick. The North has rejected Tinubu if you like be fooling yourself with deceit.
What you should think about is why the North rejected PBAT.

Back then, we southerners were all complaining about how past southern presidents spent their time pleasing the North, giving them the best amenities while neglecting the South. We asked why it was only the North that had the Navy, Army, Police, Air Force, and other key institutions.

Now, we finally have a southern president who doesn’t care about lobbying the North or seeking their approval—he is focused on the South instead. Yet, some people are still unhappy, saying he won’t get enough votes because he isn’t prioritizing the North.

We all know things are very bad right now, but there are still some aspects where he has actually done well, which are things we expected. I’m not saying you shouldn’t criticize him, but don’t use the things he has done well as a reason to criticize him.

Think about it—if you do something good for someone, and instead of appreciating it, they criticize you using that same good deed, will you ever want to do such a thing for them again? We all know the answer to that.

So, why the double standard? If we once criticized past leaders for ignoring the South, why should we now complain when a southern president prioritizes the South?
