After calling hasNextLine you should only call nextLine once. If you call it twice, it will read a line, and then read another line, which discards the first one you read.

The solution is to call nextLine once inside the loop and store it in a variable. Then use that variable instead of calling nextLine repeatedly before the loop body has repeated.

Please my fellow nairalanders I wan't to know the difference between computer science and computer engineering. Because I'm actually in a dilemma at this very moment. I don't really know which to go for when furthering my schooling.

As far as university courses go (in Nigeria at least), it is the same thing. Whether they call the department Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, etc, they all teach the same courses - Algorithms, Data structures, Computer Architecture and Hardware, Programming, Database management systems, Artificial intelligence, Compiler theory etc.

If you want to make a decision on what to study, then instead of comparing "science" vs "engineering", compare the schools offering the courses and see which one have better standards and reputation in the field. The name of the school/course on your degree is not as important in the software industry as in other fields, so what really matters is that you don't go to a school where you end up wasting four years of your life just cramming textbook without learning any thing that will actually help you get a job.

The confusion comes from the fact that in Nigeria, we like saying things like "a software" and "softwares". This is completely wrong. "Software" is a generic term, like "music" or "art".

You don't say "Wizkid released a new music" or "Aye and Fall are different musics by Davido". That is broken English. All those things together can be collectively referred to as music but music is not a word with singular and plural, instead you use specific words like "track" or "song" or "album". So if someone says "new music" they might be talking about one song, a group of songs, a mixtape, an album, whatever. But they don't say "a new music" or "some new musics".

The same goes for "software" and "program". Microsoft Word is a program (a desktop application), WhatsApp is a program (mobile application), Windows is an program (an operating system). Each of these is a program, and they can be collectively software, but software is not singular or plural. Instead of saying "a software" or "softwares", you use specific words like "program" or "app". But if you are not being specific, then you can just say "software".


Of course, this is Nigeria, we speak our English how we want. We say "more better" and reply "Where are you going?" with "I am coming". So if you want to keep saying "softwares" instead of "programs", go ahead. Nobody will come to your house and beat you.
