Education / Monday Motivational Moment...reaching Your Full Potential by lexilla007(m): 11:50am On Feb 27, 2017
Yes, reaching your full potential. What does the word "potential" mean in the first place? When used in this context, potential is one's ability to do something. Added with the word "full", it means one's ability to successfully achieve various things.

As Students, it means being an all round success: academically sound, morally upright, tight in business if possible, socially acceptable and using your talents and developing them which might not be seen in your primary course of study. It might even mean trying new things.

I am currently reading "Think Big", a book written by the great neurosurgeon himself, Ben Carson. Get the point? You are an history student does not mean you can not flex your muscles in web development. Actualizing your full potential require you to diversify. You can do well in just any field. Remember Falz, the bad guy, Jenifa? They are lawyers by course of study for crying out loud!!! But what do we know them for today? Law ? Not at all.

Here is another good example, Mr Ayodele Odiameh Alle is a microbiologist but developed his ability to convey his thoughts in writing good poems. Although strictly on a passion level here, he has written too numerous poems that I can't really count. As a comment on his recent poem entitled " Suspicion " which will be published on our blog, www.ogunleyeakinola. later in the day, he will tell you more about himself, where you can view his works and anything he has for us.
Remember, again, you can reach your full potential only if you diversify!

P.S : The poem entitled "SUSPICION" is now viewable on https://ogunleyeakinola./2017/02/27/suspicion/

Education / Here Is A Reason Why Some Don't Like Or Do Well In Mathematics by lexilla007(m): 5:09am On Feb 24, 2017
Do you know why you don't like maths?

The same part of the brain that responds to fearful situations also has a heightened response to anxiety caused by math.......#Googlefact.

What can this mean for you?

This invariably means that it is in your capacity to solve your mathematics problem. It means that when you face your fears and get anxious less, then your mathematics problems will vanish because the same part of the brain is responsible for anxiety, fear and mathematics problem.

Simple as that.
Education / An Open Letter To Only_1 In Africa.. Education Is Still Very Important. by lexilla007(m): 5:53am On Feb 23, 2017
AN OPEN LETTER TO ONLY_1 IN AFRICA.
Re : EDUCATION IS STILL VERY IMPORTANT.

Yea.. I am a social media lover. I like staying online to be able to get access to good information, quality entertainment and of course share my ideas with the world at large. To this end, I follow lot of persons and organizations who I believe have something cool to offer me. One of such is only_1 in Africa comedy line. You guys are really trying. Good work you are doing.

But yesterday I saw something on the page that I really really disagree with. Although I am not supposed to take you guys seriously I am deciding to. I am choosing to because the Yorubas will like it is from playful moments that one will know people's real mindset.

On your page yesterday was something like education used to be important until graduates started working for illiterates. I beg to disagree. I am of the opinion that education is still very very important.

I know you probably have a long list of people who have gone on to make it in life without a proper education. Yes you are right. I know a few too. Success in life is actually not about the grades. It is about attitudes, things one can get without a formal education. But does that mean education is not important to success ? No, not at all. Have you really seen an educated millionaire and a non educated one ? You will agree with me that there is always a difference. Education gives you a difference and the illiterate millionaires know it. No wonder, a good number of them go on to complete their education even after they have gotten the money they so crave. If education were not important, why would they do such?

Another cool thing about education is that it opens the man mind and inspires it to action. Give a completely educated man a task and see him complete it with competence. The only problem nowadays is that educationists nowadays have forgotten a principal objective of education is to inspire the spirit of enquiry, creativity, entrepreneurial and moral leadership. If only these parts of education were addressed, you will never see graduates working for illiterates.

To change in the education system.

Education / Create Values...get Known For Something. by lexilla007(m): 11:14pm On Feb 20, 2017
Prof. Wole Soyinka, Prof. Isaq Oloyede, Chike Obi, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, Linda Ikeji and so on and so forth. Do these names ring any bells to you ? Probably they do. These are all people dead or alive who have gotten known for something. They are people who have picked a part of life and created a value there.

Does it really mattered what or which area of calling they chose ? No, not really. What really mattered was that they chose something and created a positive value there in. No wonder, when you hear a Nobel Laurel as a Nigerian, you instantly think of Prof. Woke Soyinka. People have really distinguished themselves that whenever you hear their professions, you immediately remember them. That is where Linda Ikeji comes in. Can you really mention blogging without mentioning my mentor's name ? I don't think so. I beg to mention Prof. Oloyede too, the man I reckon as a pacesetter in the management of educational institutions in the country.

What is my point ? My Point simply is Choose a field in life that you will like to be known for and create values there in. Your choice is yours. It should be something you enjoy doing. Something that keeps your adrenaline flowing. Something that you will be doing if money were not to be a problem. Until you find that singular thing, don't settle for anything less. And when you do, never settle for anything than excellence. I repeat, never settle for anything other than excellence.
I have found mine. Have you found yours ?

To yours.

Education / You Might Just Be As Smart As You Are Because Of Your Mother. by lexilla007(m): 11:24am On Feb 17, 2017
Do you know ?

Do you know that about eighty percent of your intelligence is gotten from your mother? It therefore means that you are as intelligent as your mom.

So in short, if you've gotten a smart mom, there is a great chance that you will be a smart person too. The same can't be said of the Father and his child.

Shout out to the mothers out there who are sources of intelligence to their children.

Education / Become Smarter..... Be Like The Wise Old Owl. by lexilla007(m): 10:05am On Feb 16, 2017
BECOME SMARTER, BE WISE LIKE AN OWL.

"A wise old owl sat on an oak. The more he saw, the less he spoke. The less he spoke, the more he heard. Why can't we all be like that bird ? ".                                                              John D Rockfeller.

Findings has it that the less a man speaks, the smarter he becomes. How so ? Consider this analogy.

In the wise saying of John D Rockefeller quoted above, there was one outlet and there were two inlets of wisdom or knowledge. The outlet is the tongue. The inlets are the ear and eye. The owl focused more on the two inlets and starved more the outlet. No wonder he was termed wise. It was able to retain more and lose less by speaking.

Can we all be like that owl ? Sure we can. How so ? By imitating the wise owl of Rockfeller saying in doing these three enlisted things :

1. Speak less.

2. See more

3. Listen more.

In our next article, we will discuss how we can speak less, see more and listen more.

To a smart generation.

Education / Travelling Is A Part Of Education. by lexilla007(m): 6:15am On Feb 13, 2017
TRAVELLING IS A PART OF EDUCATION.

My mum is a teacher. Glad to be sharing the same profession with her at least for some time. She has been a real source of insight as I swim the waters of a tedious profession. She has many ideas about education that sometimes I will think she is a professor in a university's faculty of education. She will say, "travelling is a part of education". Yea yea, mum you are perfectly right. How so ?

The main reason why traveling is a part of education is that you learn new things about how life is and how people  do things differently in another area. Yes, that is travelling for you. One example that well illustrate this is my most recent sojourn to a remote area in kwara state, Basita.

After a tiring journey, I was about to feast on an eye catching dinner served by my host. I was supposed to wash my evidently dirty hands before feeding, an activity for which a bowl of water was provided. I dipped my hands inside the bowl only for me to immediately remove it again. Why ? Inside the bowl was warm water. I was real surprised about that. So I asked my host " are you sure this water is for washing hands or making of tea? She laughed and answered " It is for washing of hands ". It was then my knowledge of microorganisms while in school dawned on me. Dirts and microorganisms don't do well in warm or hot environments. Warm water is antimicrobial. I guess you can pick the lesson from there without dwelling much on it.

Another one is that travelling is a form of exposure. One get exposed to various people, cultures, ideas, thinking and so on. So many schools today go on travels in a form of excursion to learn new things. If it were not a part of education, they won't invest so much time and energy into such endeavors.

Why not make it a plan to travel to places you have never been to learn new things? You don't need to earn or have big to do such. You can escape for only a day or two. You can go to nearby places until you are capable of going on distant or overseas travels. If you do, you will be glad you did.

Blessed week ahead.

Education / 5 Ways To Strike Balance At School. by lexilla007(m): 6:14am On Feb 09, 2017
It is not uncommon to want to juggle so many things together as students and seek results in all these areas of your academic presence in school. So many things clamour for your attention that sometimes you will feel like literally being in 3 if not 4 places at a time. Maybe, if you had three hands it would have been better or if you have an extra 2 hours to the regular 24 hours day period it would have been fantastic. Academic works, social runs, spiritual obligations, relationship goals, work for some and on and on all want a bit of our precious time.

The truth is that you can achieve results in all these areas of life while at school only if you strike the right balance. How so ? Try following practical steps.

1. Enlist.

Have a real list of things that you will like to do and achieve results in a given time period. The time period might be a day, a week, a month, a semester or even in a session. This list can be hand written or on your phone. This keeps your visions clear in mind. Remember to keep this list simple and as short as possible.

2. Prioritize.

In the order of importance to you, set a scale of preference as an economist would put it. Rearrange that list in the order of how important each activity on it is to you. The more important ones should definitely be at the top of this list. No doubt, as students, any academic activity should rank highest on your list.

3. Execute the ideas on that list like a soldier.

Yes all plans and no work will lead to no achievement, follow through! Stick to that schedule ! No compromises ! You will be glad you did.

4. Avoid time and energy wasters.

This is the most difficult thing to do as students. Avoid spending unnecessary times on anything that is not in sync with your over all objectives. This includes needless arguments, gossips, spending too much time at place idle and so on. The list is endless.

5. Be modest.

This simple quality helps a lot. It helps you avoid over doing stuffs. It help you avoid over thinking things. A lot was achieved before you were born. So put your ambitions in check and it will be way easier to keep your balance.

lexilla007:
YOU CAN MAKE IT IN SCHOOL! YOU CAN MAKE IT ANYWHERE!

So I saw a notification on my phone's Facebook App and I decided to check up the latest update on my page this morning, lo and behold I saw the most explanatory and illustrative representation of man's ability to build anything of himself. Care to see the picture too ? Don't worry I will share, that is why I am here doing this.

Do you appreciate this work of art as I do ? I hope you do. Although I have always knew the truth of that statement, this artistic work completed any misunderstanding I might have had about the saying.

Good enough I know of a story of a young boy who illustrates man's ability to build himself. He was Chinonzo Obiakor. Back then in school, he was the regular dullard you could ever know. He was so dull that I thought then that he did not literally know anything. The school I went to was actually one funny one so we have a way of making caricature of people of that sort as a way of getting them to be better. Thanks to sure proprietor.

This actually worked for this my dear friend. We went to the usual holidays and by the time we resumed, we had a different chinonzo. Without much hyping, this same dullard became the best student in all calculatory subjects.

He simply built himself to be a mathematical monster. I don't really have an idea of what he did but I do know that he learnt all the functions of a calculator. Infact, he was always with one.

I am glad to let you know that this guy is now a graduate today with a degree in mechanical engineering.

What is the import of this story? It is just one, nothing is impossible. If you have been somehow disadvantaged in education, you can equal up or even outlive any hindrance. It is up to you ! You can make it in school ! You can make it any where! Remember, you are the sculptor of your future! You are the architect of your own realities!

To your success.

Education / Sure Fire Ways Of Making Today Count.... by lexilla007(m): 9:54pm On Feb 06, 2017
MAKE TODAY COUNT

Sometimes, all you have to do is listen to your heart, breathe in and out, never, ever be afraid to start all over, to rewrite history, be actually worried if you don't get the opportunity to start all over. Forgive freely, laugh a lot, let go of the things and people that hurt you (just because hate in your heart would consume you too). Get close to God, to positive vibes and energy, read a book and grow 1% daily, be sure to wake up with a dream, plan the day ahead and follow through.....Then, finally, sit back, relax and watch your dreams come to reality. They'll come back and ask how you did it.

On the reading part, I am reading an inspirational piece by John Maxwell titled "Make Today Count" and I am really enjoying every line of it.

Ps: this is me schooling myself, I do hope it works for you too

Education / Re: 5 Lessons I Learnt From Making First Page On Nairaland by lexilla007(m): 9:32am On Jan 30, 2017
ITbomb:
You better get yourself organized by getting a good domain name or brand name and working on your blog.

There were people like you who made Frontpage every other day and gave all to nairaland but when some jealous mod would start to ban you, it would be so frustrating

Thanks for the advice. I will keep it in mind.
Education / 5 Lessons I Learnt From Making First Page On Nairaland by lexilla007(m): 8:25am On Jan 30, 2017
For sometime now, I have been a big fan of nairaland. Infact ,I have gotten to like nairaland as a website to the point of depending on it when I am bored with life sometimes. My usage of the website have been like any other nairalander. At first, I was just a visitor, later a member and now a writer .
I started writing articles some months ago and I have been improving my game since then. After writing 25 articles on nairaland, I graced the much beloved first page. It was like a dream come true for me as a writer. It was like a milestone for me. I felt like the way Gerald must have felt wearing a Liverpool shirt for the first time.
As a learner from the school of life, I have learnt five lessons from making first page appearance on my dream website - nairaland. Below are the lessons :
1. Looking for success ? Look inwards not the other way round.
I have always asked myself, How will I get to be noticed to be given a first page appearance on nairaland ? I was seriously hoping to be seen and heard. Infact, the day I wrote the article titled " 4 ways to create a good reading habit ", I was just thinking about that. So what brought about that "10000 views" topics ? I simply looked inside and did what I do best which is writing educational articles. As a person , if I were to look elsewhere for what I should be writing about, I would I have thought about entertainment or news but my innermost will not allow me. So I decided to heed to my inner calling and the result have just been splendid ever since. Why not try that too ?
2. It is only men of one thing that succeed.
True talk, it is only men of a singular purpose that succeeds. Mohammed Alli once said that he feared not a man that has a thousand kicks but rather a man who have practised one kick for a thousand times. There is this tendency of us as individuals to try and go in all directions looking for success. But to really achieve success, one have to first conquer one line perfectly before diversifying. Of all my 25 post, most have always been in the educational forum. Practising, getter better and improving myself and finally my day came. You might just try and differentiate too.
3. Never give up ! Keep trying so that you don't stop one mile from Gold.
There were many times in my writing career when I felt like I was never going to make a first page appearance but giving up is just not an option for me. The thing is that we don't know what the future holds. We never can tell when our breakthrough will come. You can only be rewarded if you don't give up. Never do.
4. Although God blessings is not location based, location matters a lot in business.
I understood this truth first hand last week. I have written some articles which I thought were cool pieces but they never made first page. As a result of this, they did not get the anticipated welcoming I thought they deserved. Infact the article that later graced the first page initially had a little above 1000 views before it made first page. When it made first page, it now had more than 12000 views. See the effect of location. My brother, location matters in life.
5. Once there is not always there.
Yeah, that is true. Baba, you made your first million does not mean you will always be a millionaire. You need to keep working hard. I made my first "first page" and I am striving to keep on making it on a regular basis. How do I achieve this ? By working hard to improve myself.....
I hope you read in between the lines and saw valuable lessons too for yourself. I hope this makes first page too. I will be glad if my two hopes actualizes.

Education / What If I Tell That There Is Are 3 Other Names For BODMAS... by lexilla007(m): 12:24pm On Jan 28, 2017
The truth about bodmas and 3 other names for it.

Today on Saturday sum, we are not going to be giving out questions as it has being our tradition. We are alternatively going to be settling issues straight about a mathematical principle known as BODMAS.

Nigerian teachers ehn, all the while i have been taught in school that the "O" in BODMAS stands for "Of". Same with you ? Permit me to tell you that you have been misinformed, the "O" in BODMAS actually stands for "ORDERS".

" orders " here include any operation that has a power or a square root.

For example the other to solve this equation below is:

7 + (6 × 5²+ 3)

7 + (6 × 25 + 3)

Start inside Brackets, and then use "Orders" First

7 + (150 + 3) Then Multiply

7 + (153) Then Add

7 + 153 Brackets completed, last operation is add

160 DONE !

Interestingly BODMAS is understood in different ways in different countries. For example,

1."Exponents" is used in Canada, and so you might prefer "BEDMAS".

2.There is also "Indices" which makes it "BIDMAS".

3. In the US they say "Parentheses" instead of Brackets, so it is "PEMDAS".

I do think, but not about boiling saliva.

forgive me please, I am not saying you don't think but the thing is that scientist try to study things that we don't even count reasonable to give thought to. for example, Isaac Newton considered that if we throw a feather and a stone down together from the same height, given no air resistance, it will touch the ground at roughly the same time. Ever thought of that ? Newton did and that brought about the law of gravity..... so scientists question nature and try and give explanation to natural occurrences that we may not even think of.

you too dey form Isaac newton shey ? and if we check well well na google dey actually work for you. anyway there are many controversies regarding the boiling point of human saliva. It is assumed that the boiling point of saliva is nearly three times than that of pure water (boiling point of pure water is 100° C ). But according to the mathematical calculations, it comes out to be 100.16° C .
