EducationThe Enzymatic Reaction Of Prayers.... by lexilla007(op): 7:40am On Jan 25, 2017
THE ENZYMATIC REACTIONS OF PRAYERS.

"Ask me, I have seen prayers worked, I know it does. But I also know that character helps a great deal "

                                        Mrs Adegoke

Those were the words I heard last week Friday and ever since I have been pondering over them. I have been doing a certain kind of analogy on them but there is actually no "thinking over" necessary here, they are just plain truth. Why do I say so?

It is not uncommon to see students who will always pray that they want good grades, they want to pass their exams, they want to get a scholarship and on and on but they don't actually work for these things. Will things just happen ? No because prayer is not a magic wand as used by Merlin in the land of magic and the time of myth neither is it a mere wishful act that conjure up realities. Prayer is better compared to as an enzyme. Really? Let check on a Chemistry class on "enzymes".

What are enzymes ? Enzymes are  organic chemical substances that speed up chemical reactions.

How does this relate with prayers for God's sake ? Prayers are the enzymes while our works which include our characters are the chemical reactions. Enzymes don't work on nothing, they can only work on a substrate. In the event that there is no substrate to work on, enzymes are a big waste. In the same way, if our works and our good characters were to be lacking, how do we expect prayers to work ? On empty vessels ? On thin air ? Certainly not. So before you pray next time for blessings, ask yourself, am I giving God something to bless ?
Your works are the sum total of what you do as a person, your attitudes, your values, moral codes, characters e.t.c. Work on them ! Sharpen your skills ! And Pray to God and see if he will not answer.
To your Success......

Cultivating the reading habit.
As a goal oriented person, I took the time out at the beginning of this year to ask myself these questions : Where do I want to be at the end of this year ? and How do I want to achieve this things ? So i did a kind of thinking or better put meditation on these questions and found out the exact answers to them.
Yes I had goals for myself and at least a viable plan to meet those goals. Yes I want to have been this , I want to have achieved this, I want to have done those and blah blah blah. But what are my plans to achieving these my goals?
I read somewhere that what we are is a matter of our habits. Simple as that statement is, it imprinted in me like seriously. So I asked myself, what habits do I need to cultivate if I am to become the kind of person I want to be at the end of 2017 ? Through researches both on and offline, I got some habits I wanted to inculcate in myself to become the kind of person that I am.
One of such habits is the reading habit. What is this reading habit ? How can one cultivate the reading habit ? What are the benefit of a cool reading habit ? These are the questions to be answered in this weeks Monday Motivational Moment MMM4.

So what exactly is the reading habit I am talking about ?
This is an habit one keeps such that one reads one thing or the other in a regular pattern. A person with a good reading habit makes sure he or she reads something every waking moment. This may be a piece of literature, an academic book, a religious one, a piece of newspaper, magazine , blog post etc. It can even be research materials like dictionaries.
How can one cultivate good reading habits ?
1. Set a goal over a period of time.
Have it as a goal to finish a particular piece over a reasonable period of time. This keeps you focused on keeping your good habit. I personally has it as a goal to read at least a book in every month. Another of such is reading the bible in the year. Want to make an habit of reading ? Set a goal for yourself.
2. Create time for reading just as you do for eating. Have you ever seen a man who is as busy as not setting a time for eating in a 24 hour period of time ? This is so because food provides the body with nourishment. How much more we need to on nourish our minds and hearts through reading. This time might be late in the night or early in the morning. Choose a time that suits you. Period.
3. Avoid procrastination. Kill it now, never postpone. The time is that very moment. Don't Fall into the habit of "latering" reading.
4. Avoid distractions. Off your phones. Don't read in front of a television. Off your stereo. Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

When you have done all these, you will created for yourself a good reading habit and the benefits are endless. Readers are leaders. They are well informed. They can draw on experiences of others through the lines of the pages they read and can therefore make wise decisions in their everyday life.

To good habits.

EducationThe Sanctuary by lexilla007(op): 6:31am On Jan 19, 2017
THE SANCTUARY

Each day seems busier than the previous one. Always on the move yet never getting to a destination. The hustle and bustle of school ever so endless like the Atlantic. Lectures to attend, assignments to get done, handouts and textbooks to buy and of course read, tests and exams to prepare for. The list is endless! There's still so many other extracurricular activities you are expected to be a part of. Little wonder then that students of various tertiary institutions in our country feel that stress should be added to the name of their schools. For example, ABSU becomes ABSTRESS, UNIUYO becomes UNISTRESS. For the female students, there's added nightmare to the stress. Rapists and perverts in Lecturer's clothing will stop at nothing until they grace their bed. This school life nawa o!

There's hope though- the sanctuary!

What is a sanctuary? Why does every student need one?

To answer the first question, a sanctuary is defined as a place of safety, refuge or protection. Synonyms include sanctum, haven, etc. For a student, a sanctuary would mean a place where the least of your worries is school work. It could be a moment alone where you feel relaxed and at ease. It could be a time spent with someone, or when you are engaging in a particular activity. It could even be when you are at rest or asleep. The main thing is this; it's up to you to find your own sanctuary.

Why you need a sanctuary

For obvious reasons, a sanctuary is a necessity for every student.

To restore or maintain sanity is one reason. Without a sanctuary, someone can get so caught up with school activities and as such increase his/her stress level, thereby risking sanity. There have been such cases in our schools as well. A very ancient proverb says, " better is a handful of rest than two handfuls of hardwork and striving after the wind".

Tips on how to find your sanctuary

1. Try to create leisure time for yourself. Try observing ants go about their daily business.

2. Get a confidant/confidante if you don't already have one. This is that your very special friend who's always there for you.

3. Engage yourself in activities that community-based. Volunteer to help others in need.

4. Draw close to the best friend there is, God! Find those who love him as well and make them your friend too.
Finally, do not get too absorbed in your sanctuary that you neglect other important things as well, your school work for example. The key word is balance!

Next time, we will discuss on how to be balanced as a student.

EducationIs Positioning Still Relevant In The Grading Of Students Academic Performance? by lexilla007(op): 3:54am On Jan 12, 2017
IS POSITIONING STILL RELEVANT IN THE GRADING OF STUDENTS PERFORMANCE?

When I was but a boy, I remember very vividly the days of my primary and secondary school education. I remember the times when I will prepare for exams for the sole reason that I want to come up first in class. I remembered so well my seemingly endless cries because of falling down the positioning order. I remember very good the day I cried because a gang of teachers scolded me for looking down on others who were below me when we saw our positions at the end of the term. I remember how badly I felt the day I failed my class by coming 2nd in a quiz contest. Ehn Ehn, I remember the needless drama between the smart ones of my classes the first week of the term because of last terms grades.
So numerous are those memories of the times when positions used to matter to we students. All of a sudden, our treasured battle line was taken from us. The positioning system was said to be outdated and abolished. The reasons for this, I don't still know until now. But I do know that the positioning system had thrills. Students do feel the need to do better when they are graded that way. It is a pity that this system is considered obsolete.
But I am an Open-minded person, I would like to listen to people who have an opinion to share.

Please is the positioning system no longer relevant in the grading of students?

If so, why?

Thanks as you share your view.

EducationRe: Between Assumption And Ignorance, Which One Is Worse? by lexilla007(op): 3:51am On Jan 12, 2017
LarryBeryl:
Most of the knowledge embedded in economics are based on axiology which is otherwise known as assumption. Assumptions could be verified to be true or false. if any of the assumptions are false it could be due to its limitations. Every scientific and technological advancements went through series of assumptions before concrete solutions are met.
cool thoughts. I never saw thought of this. But following that line of reasoning, if those scholars based their knowledge on just those assumptions without trying to prove them right or wrong, will there theories or teachings hold water? So even if assuming can be sometimes good, one still needs to check one's assumptions to see maybe they are right or wrong.
EducationBetween Assumption And Ignorance, Which One Is Worse? by lexilla007(op): 8:57am On Jan 11, 2017
I heard this from the first cool lawyer I ever knew and ever since, that has pretty much be one of my favorite quotes. Barrister Robert Odihi once said, " assumption is the least level of knowledge ".

You might be wondering, " Where did this man put ignorance? Well, you thought well. Ignorance is a bad one but assumption is far worse. How so?

Well, when one is ignorant, he or she probably knows that he has no knowledge of a particular thing. That state of awareness alone can make it easier or push him forward to seek knowledge. You will agree with me that that is hope in the horizon for him.

But can we say the same for assumption? No is the answer. An assuming man feels he know something and in the real sense does not. As if that is not enough a problem, an assuming man in most cases does not see the need to seek knowledge because he feels he knows. What a pity?

It is probably this line of reasoning that made George Bernard Shaw to make this statement :

"Beware of false knowledge, it is more dangerous than ignorance ".

EducationDo This And Achieve More And More Day By Day.... by lexilla007(op): 4:35am On Jan 09, 2017
Some days ago, precisely on the 1st day of this year, I started an habit. Today is the 9th day of me following that my habit and with that, I have been achieving more and more from my day.

This singular habit gives me a sense of accomplishment and I know it will later bring me to my dream destination. Want to know this habit I am hyping this much?

The habit is CREATING A TO-DO LIST ON A DAILY BASIS.

So a brief description of this my habit, what is a to-do list? A to-do list is a enumeration of activities you will like to do during the day.

When is the best time to create such a list? Since your day starts in the morning, I think the best time to make a to-do list is in the morning, when you wake. Some have also found the end of the day as a good time to create a to-do list for the next day.

How to make a to-do list? Take some time to meditate on your overall objectives. Think of the things you have accomplished the previous day and the followup or buildup steps that can take you a bit closer to those objectives. List them out. Also on a to-do list can be activities you went completed during the day, places and people you want to visit, calls you want to make and so on and so forth.

Why make a to-do list? A to-do list is a great habit. It helps you really visualize where you are in relation to your dream objectives. It makes you a bit more accountable to yourself. It oversteps that issue of forgetting some certain things you want done since they are in writing.

So I implore you to get a small Notepad and start creating a to-do list on a daily basis and at the end of the day, always check how well you have performed and where you can improve.
P. S: Don't forget to thank me later.

EducationWhy Follow Advice. by lexilla007(op): 1:02pm On Jan 04, 2017
This morning I posted an article on following advice. It is the first Wednesday Wisdom Words that I am sharing for the year. Want to have a read? Check it out on https://ogunleyeakinola./2017/01/04/wednesday-wisdom-words-1/.

On hind view of my article, I am deciding to share a story that buttresses the soundness of following advice if it have been proven to be good.

So I went to one of my former teachers looking for an opportunity to kickstart a career in education. After exchanging pleasantries, I got to my main purpose of visit. I told him I wanted a job as a teacher but he informed me that there was no vacancy as of that moment. He nonetheless advised me to put pursuing of my masters degree a priority first and then think of a career in lecturing. I heard him, thanked him but I did not act on that good advice. I made no consultation, no medication and definitely no decision.

Sometime later, I discovered that I really had a passion for education. A Master degree will be needed but I had none. So I began to make consultations. The first person gave me the same advice : " Akin,go for your Masters ". The second, the same advice, the third, the forth, the fifth and so numerous that I have lost count.

Could I have benefitted if I had acted on that advice? Yes I could have. I could have saved time. I could have been nearing the end by now. But I guess it is not too late.

So I am deciding to act Now.
Now is the time.
Tomorrow is like wasting another precious time.

I sincerely wish someone had read this and decided to always consult people for advice, meditate on advice given, and take action if there is a sound reason to do so.

Peace.

Feeling lyrical this Friday, so I decided to drop this freestyle.
Enjoy.......
I am tired of these. Tired of what? Tired of the ladies. All they are ever after is the money in various currencies: the pounds, dollars, naira and even the cedis. Oh! Am I the only thinking this? Or has this too ever come to your notice ?
See them wearing undies in clothes disguise, ready to pull off just for their guys to please. And when the guys threatens, they are left with the sole option to go down on their knees. What a pity! What price can one place on one's self dignity? Sis, you might think this as a diss but please the true in it, do not miss.
Please, Sis ,your self esteem , do try to heighten Act like a lady. Like a man, be real! And decide not to settle for anything apart from the real deal.
This is the truth I choose to speak. Thanks.

Sharing so many gifts with so much care.
Gratitude fills the Air,
Hearts so forgiving that it overlooks every offence and err.
There are jubilations everywhere,
Celebrating the supposed birth of God's only heir.
But can I ever be tempted to have a share?

The kind of MMM I want people to know me with........

Here is the kind of MMM platform I want people to know me for. This MMM offers more than monetary gains. It opens the mind and heart out to be motivated and inspired to action. It opens the mind of a person to truly live. I bet that is far more beneficial from the popular MMM.

This article is just to introduce you to this MMM scheme. Hey no fears. This one ain't crashing. You ain't losing any money here. You definitely ain't harming anybody in the long-run here.

Next week is going to be the Maiden edition of the MMM series. The main Idea is to motivate man to action. It is to give a man wisdom to live. I don't want to come up religious but please at your leisure read Ecclesiastes 7 : 12.

Next week's Monday Motivational Moment Is going to be centred on "thinking deep long enough for ideas".

Watch out for it.

HealthWorld Aids Day....fighting From Wherever You Are. by lexilla007(op): 10:14am On Dec 01, 2016
The world chooses to remember HIV and AIDS today.  The disease in recent years have proven to be a scare to the world  and more especially to Africa.  There exists a need to educate young minds on the prevention of this nightmare because according to Dr. Bilali sparking at the National HIV Prevention Conference held in Abuja recently, we will never develop if we do not get our young people and women involved.

Speaking at that same event, Dr. Victoria Isiramen made known that Nigeria and South Africa has the largest number of adolescent living with  HIV and Aids. A certain Mr. Issa Mohammed went on to share the statistics that as at 2013, there were 17000 new infections and 11000 Aids related deaths among Adolescents in Nigeria. He said it is up to young people to build the Future and control Hiv response.

Relating on recent findings in researches, scientist at the conference also spoke on the fact that prevention is the only tenable and viable option for the future generation against this deadly disease.

How can one contact AIDS?

The big question Now is: How do we prevent HIV and AIDS ? Below are the basics to prevention

1.Get tested and know your status

2. Abtain from Sexual Activities

3. Talk to your Doctor about Pre Exposure Prophylaxis

4. Don't inject Drugs

5. If you must,  make sure you use sterilized needle and syringes

6. Never share sharp equipments with friends e.g blades.

If we do all these things, then we are fighting the disease in our little way and we are contributing to an AIDS free world by 2030.

To a World free of Aids

EducationWhat Do You Think Of The Unilorin Solution Of The Hostel Jig Saw Puzzle? by lexilla007(op): 8:55am On Nov 28, 2016
I had planned to first pen down my thoughts in writing before transferring them into my phone but the weekend was just too short that I just have to make do with punching my opinions using my phone keyboard. The reason is that with the annoyance in me, punching my phone keyboard might actually damage my precious phone. Lols how will I make my next post? In this economy, can I get another one quickly when I forgot one phone in the repairer shop because of just 2000 ? So now I am having to put my emotion in check for the ultimate good.
What is even annoying me? It is nothing but the hostel Hustle that the students of university of ilorin are facing now. Why the concerns? Bro I am not a student who is having to undergo serious queueing in both challenge and the School park at either end of an academically stressful day. I am neither a parent who is having to spend ridiculous amount on the transportation of my ward. I am just a concerned Ex - unilorite for now who hears and sees students suffering of the incapability of his Alma Mata to solve the hostel problem.

If the school is finding it hard to solve it's problem, how will they be able to impart problem solving capacity to students of my dear school? Instead of solving the problem, they are actually adding to it. How? Keep on reading.

The school portal is faulty, they decided to ignore it or better expressed, patch it. They did the quick thing. Why not spend the needed time and resources to put the portal back In shape? Now the portal, messed up, the hostels, in chaos. Only if they had reasoned better could they have realized that a good portal system make things easier in the running of the university. So where do they spend their money ? On beautifying car parks. If you have the capacity to heal a cripple and you ended up giving him a cool cripple bicycle, please judge yourself? That is exactly what the university is doing or have done.

Then I heard of the ballot solution. Lols, every right thinking Nigerian know that that one will never work. How will it? Where will it? In Nigeria? The system should known better. When as a person I have not seen a single friend picked a single "yes" in the ballot , how will I have faith in the system?

I am not here to just backlash the institution, I only want to readjust the mentality from a quick fix solution and misdirected efforts to solve the problem.
We need more viable solutions to our problem with the hostels. God bless me, God bless my Unilorin.
I drop my phone.

EducationWhich Kind Of Student Does This? by lexilla007(op): 5:31am On Nov 24, 2016
Sequel to the experience yesterday where I almost missed an examination  due to sleep debt, I am going to share another experience where I actually missed an examination due to another reason. Hey! Stop wondering which kind of student I was. I am not that unserious ooo, I just had my own fair share of stories. Like I said yesterday, the pressure we students of university of ilorin are subjected to can boil yam,i had two exams on the same day. One of them was mcb208, the other I have forgotten. I guess you don't always remember things that did not either bless you or teach you a lesson.

So I did the first one in the morning and had to separate myself from my peers to revise for the second. I actually did not write my timetable but I thought I saw mcb208 slated for 3 00pm. Who does that? Which kind of student would not write his timetable but instead try to memorize it? I was that kind of unserious student ooo. Unknown to me it was mat208 I saw thinking that I saw mcb208. The real mcb208 had been slated for 12 30pm. In brief, it therefore meant that when my peers were writing their examination, I was revising for that examination.

I was rudely awakened from my slumber when I saw the deserted examination hall but it was just too late. I had to rewrite the examination as a makeup. I was only lucky to have been permitted to do that because the law states that it is only on the ground of ill health that one can be able to do so.
# lesson from the story

1. Never leave the company of your colleagues during examination. Those guys serve as a compass for you at those times. Even if you have to revise for an examination, do it with them. Chances are that they might have read something you have not gotten read.

2. Take your examinations serious. Write your timetable. It keep you abreast of the time to be in an examination hall. Don't try and be a scofield.

Do you have any funny stories  too?  Feel free to share....

So I am deciding to write on the passing out parade just done yesterday. Congratulations to all and sundry who I know passed out yesterday. I wish you guys all the best in the future. With those certificates you are holding with joy, you will get things done that will fill you with with more joy. Amen.
There is this question that you might probably be asked from now on. Someone who have not seen you for a while might just ask if you are done with your studies. Maybe you have even been asked before. How did you answered? Or better how should you answer?
My take is that one does not ever finish with studies. You can only progress to a next stage. The day one finishes is the day one dies.
So what is the next phase with your certificates ? Yes..three things you can learn
1. You can learn to be own boss by starting up your own business. There is no better path that is as rewarding as that. I think the SAED program should have helped you a bit in this direction. For all those who choose this path, the sky is your starting point
2. Another point is that you can learn skills that will make you more employable. Are you a computer literate ? Can you up your marketing skill ? Can you create a good resume? With a lot of unemployable graduates all around, these skills will surely bring you closer to your dream job.
3. Finally you can decide to further your studies. A PGDE , a masters is not out of place in today's competitive world.
To your success ......

There exist another type of education apart from the secular one we all are used to. The education I am talking about is of more importance than its counterparts. Granted, secular education offers you wisdom, friends, thinking ability, social skills and practical training, this type of education offers all those and even more. This type of education is no other than " spiritual education ".
Just how important is this type of education ? A holy book answers : "..... godly devotion ( which can only be gotten through spiritual education) is beneficial for all things, as it holds promise of the life now and the life that is to come" - 1 Timothy 4:8. That is it. Our very existence, our grasp on the real life depends on this type of education.
Now that we know how important this type of education is, how then can you acquire such education ? Simply 2 timothy 3:16,17 answers : "16 All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work." It is only through the accurate study of the bible can we get spiritually educated.

EducationRunning Can Help Your Grades by lexilla007(op): 9:11pm On Oct 25, 2016
https://ogunleyeakinola./2016/10/25/wonders-never-end-running-can-help-your-grades/

In the run-up to important exams, you can find yourself worrying that all the information you’ve crammed in might not stay in your memory.

But it appears that the answer to retaining information may lie away from the books. New research has shown that going for a run can improve the chances of remembering information in exams.

In the study, the researchers asked 60 men aged 16 to 29 to memorize a range of information, from learning a route on a city map to memorizing German-Turkish word pairs.

They were then split into three groups: one group played a violent computer game, one went for a run and one spent time outside. The researchers then compared how well the people in each group remembered the information they were given.

The results showed that the runners performed best, remembering more after the run than before. Those in the control group fared slightly worse, and the memories of people who played the game were significantly impaired. The research suggests that a student’s choice of activity after a period of learning – such as cramming for an exam – has a direct effect on their ability to remember information.

The researchers behind the new study, from the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, say students should do moderate exercise, like running, rather than taking part in a passive activity such as playing computer games if they want to make sure they remember what they learned.

Education3 Lessons From The Chelsea Man U Game. by lexilla007(op): 8:13pm On Oct 24, 2016
THREE LESSONS EVERY STUDENT CAN DRAW FROM THE WEEKEND'S CHELSEA MAN U GAME.
Now that the euphoria and the emotions of last evening Chelsea's scintillating demolition of mourinho's side are down a bit, let draw on the lessons learnt as students from that encounter.
LESSON 1: There is nothing like a defensive approach to studies.
Yes, that is the first place mourinho got it all wrong. He was being his usual self by trying to be first defensive then later on, depending on the nature of the game switch to a more attacking pattern. He was not being retroactive thereby lacking a quality of a good student. As a student, you can't be a "mourinho". You can't study to avoid failing. If you do that, you will end up been an average or outrightly failing. You study to pass!. You study to win!!. That is the mentality of a " special student".
LESSON 2: Be a "CONTE".
Although Conte lost in lack lustre manner to rivals Liverpool and Arsenal, he did not gave up. After persistent efforts, he got his winning formulae back. His secrets? According to him, they must continue to work hard. Only through work can they improve. You heard that? There is only one way to improving your academic performance. And that is by working hard
LESSON 3: Don't just go to school, let school pass through you
After the game, mourinho had something to tell conte. He did that not in English but in Italian. Where did he learnt that? Probably from this time at inter. So as a igbo student who is studying in the west, do you take the time to learn the youruba language? Or as a Yoruba student studying in the north, do you take the time to learn the Hausa language? Please do!, one day you might need to impress an interviewer with that language or even want to communicate effectively with it like mourinho did.

EducationEducation In Times Of Recession. by lexilla007(op): 9:59pm On Oct 23, 2016
FIVE WAYS TO AVOID RECESSION AFFECTING YOUR EDUCATION.
So I finally got time to write on this topic right? Is it possibly the recession to be blamed for the lack of enough time to write ? This days virtually everything is blamed on the recession. Hey!! stop casting blame but instead try and frame yourself up to cope with the situation. How can your cope with education in this time of recession? Here are five tips.
1. Cut your coat according to your size.
Recently I heard some parent writing undertaking at a private university to pay their wards school fees at a later time because they don't have enough funds to pay for now. Must they send their children to expensive schools if they can't afford it? send your wards to schools you can afford, they write the same external examinations everywhere.
2. Avoid luxuries.
This is same as sticking with the necessaries. A decent smart phone is necessary but an I phone is a luxury. A decent off campus hostel is perhaps necessary but a state of the art hostel might be too much. Remember, stick to the basics!
3. Avoid short cuts to success
Short cuts? We know them. Taking ijmb classes worth hundreds of thousands of naira when you can just take jamb and secure an admission. Bribing lecturer, paying machineries e.t.c all slim down pockets. Short cuts are more expensive. Tell me a cheap one.
4. Have a side hustle.
This is for the student mainly. Gone are the days where people are ready to help you out o. Even for our parents, they can't provide us everything we need. So why not try and make some money for yourself to augment your allowances from your parents. You will feel more responsible.
5. You can get motivation from the recession.
In the battle for survival, only the fittest survives in trying circumstances. Choose to be a survivor. Choose success and one day you will be rewarded.
