That Tottenham lineup… It suggests Thomas Frank is going to set up in a low block and rely on counter attacks with 3rd man runs to score goals.
There are only 2 offensive players of note in the whole XI— Xavi Simmons and Solanke. Odobert is on the right wing and Frank has Gallagher playing AM. United’s starting XI meanwhile, remains unchanged.
We can’t allow them to get comfortable in their defensive shape. Slow, passive passes and lack of movement up front will do us in. If we look dangerous and threaten their box, we can force them to commit errors. This Spurs team is weak mentally.
Hopefully pressure will burst pipe early enough. When they concede they can come out so we can paste them well well. |

afrodoc2: Yes, Sesko has the box movement and aerial presence to work well against low blocks, and Cunha has just enough dribbling, invention, long-range shooting, and pace to trouble any block (low or high). He just needs to work on his touch, which can sometimes be loose.
Amad can work against any block as well. Once he improves his finishing and starts targeting and hitting the far post area of the goal, e don be for EPL LBs. I’m a bit worried about Amad. He’s not as dangerous as he once was. His ambition and hunger has taken a hit. He still puts in the effort and his work in the team is evident. But I’d like him to be more daring in certain moments or even have the belief that he can make something happen. Instead he just takes the safest options in most cases when faced with some difficulty. It’s almost as if his growth has stagnated. Hopefully it’s another stage in his arc and he can become extremely dangerous in the next months cos I know how talented he is. |

afrodoc2: Lol you ignored every other thing I said and atta her to that one.
The point is that you were wrong to say there is nothing like small or mid table team.
The way mid table teams set up us different from the way top teams set up. Top teams will play higher line against you and come at us, leaving space behind us that our counterattack players can exploit. Most of our best attackers have been counterattack players and not possession. Most of our defenders as well have been low block defenders which favours us playing against top teams.
Against small teams our counterattack players are not as useful because those ones will sit back and there is less space to exploit. Our low block defensive players like Maguire, de Ligt, Casemiro are also less effective because they have to play high lines and cover more space that they would like.
The mentality of the players is a factor. The coaching is a factor. But they real key is buying players who do not depend on counterattack to excel and I think we have started fling that. No Cunha and Sesko actually look like they’ll do well against low blocks if allowed some freedom. Even Mainoo sef, although he isn’t the finished article. My worry is that they’ll be indoctrinated by the majority to have that counter attacking mindset and always start attacks whenever they get the ball. Sometimes during the Fulham game- when we were 2-0 up, I felt we should’ve kept the ball more in some moments instead of risking another counter attack that likely wouldn’t yield any fruit. Heck, Fulham’s first goal came from one of those failed attacks. |

LordAdam16
The problem is that Ugarte, Mainoo and co can’t sense danger whenever Case comes off.
Fulham’s first goal yesterday happened because Mainoo stepped up to join the squeeze in midfield with Ugarte already high up doing his senseless pressing. This left a huge space for the opposition to exploit with a simple lob pass.
Mainoo should have delayed his action and protected that zone in front of the defenders.
We need a midfielder who can read the game properly, sense danger early, and act proactively to prevent disaster.

Jamiuokolaa: With that 1st half performance?
We have been underwhelming today. Fulham no be moin moin team. It was an even game and we did well to go ahead. But once we got the second goal we got careless and the performance levels dropped. We became so poor at defending and they rightly equalized. Maybe it’s the Casemiro sub. Maybe not. But this team has consistently shown that they are weak when leading these “smaller” teams. |

afrodoc2: You are right about the tactical advantages of Yoro starting ahead of Maguire but I suspect Carrick will not make too many changes in this game which is the first one we are expected to win. The defence might not change.
Amad and Mbeumo are our 2 most consistent attackers. They are the only 2 that you can predict when they will give you. I think Carrick will find a way to start both. Either Sesko or Cunha might miss out.
Whatever lineup Carrick chooses, that won’t be the major problem. Our major problem when facing smaller teams is lack of application and focus.
Meanwhile Yuel Helafu. Put that name in your back pocket. It might come in handy one day. Carrick went with his trusted guys. It will be hard to break into his starting eleven. Hope he is bold enough to drop non performing players even though they’re his guy. Good start to the Fulham game. If we get the second goal, we’ll be able to score more because they’ll open up more. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by Leyqute(m): 1:37pm On Feb 01 |
I think Yoro starts ahead of Maguire today. Then Cunha in for D’Orgu. Then one of Amad and Mbeumo should start with Sesko up top. Everything else remains unchanged.
Yoro's pace will be an added bonus over Maguire’s sluggishness. His offensive output should be superior too. Same with Cunha for D’Orgu. We’re going to have more possession so we should have a higher offensive starting eleven.
What do you guys think? Afrodoc |

afrodoc2: Possession: 58% to 42%
Shots: 7 to 6
Shots on target: 1 to 1.
They are the better team, and their organisation is next level. What we have to do is take care of the ball when we get it and exploit turnover better. They will increase the pressure in the 2nd half and it will burst pipe if we play the same way.
Maybe Cunha for Dorgu. Not until later in the game abeg |
