This shows how disconnected the government is from the reality of ordinary Nigerians.

These officers already have pensions, so why approve salaries for life for a select few? What about doctors, engineers, professors, teachers and even lower-ranking immigration officers who never become chiefs? Don't their years of service count?

If their pensions are inadequate, reform the pension system for everyone.

Governance is about fairness and the welfare of all citizens, not creating special privileges for a few while millions of retirees struggle to survive.

An increase in government revenue is not the same thing as an increase in citizens' welfare. The real test is whether the additional resources lead to affordable food, reliable electricity, decent jobs, functioning hospitals, better schools and higher purchasing power.

The government has not demonstrated that subsidy savings are being properly tracked and spent.

Even this same IMF said challenges remained in establishing how those savings accrue to the budget.
