It was a painful experience for me.


Before my turn, two people were attended to when I came it. They cried and were screaming.

I was like, what am I going to do?

It was my turn and I sat on an operating chair. I was asked to open my mouth, and they injected that hole in my tooth.

I no longer feel my tooth. It was like my mouth was swelling.

The next thing, the three ladies brought out their surgical equipment. Screwdriver, hammer, and one other like that.

The other lady held my head, while the last one handled the hammering.

The screw was now deep inside my tooth, she started forcing it out. That's when hell began for me.

I wanted to scream, but I remembered the people outside waiting for their turn.

If you come out without a cry or scream, people waiting outside will hail you.

I manned up, and they forced that tooth out.

After that, they dipped cotton wool inside a methylated liquid and applied it to my bleeding gum.

They congratulated me. I went outside and people were hailing me.

I went out of the dental office and I saw men who were smoking. They sighted what happened, and I was congratulated in a cloud of smoke.

It went well. I was handed my tooth.

All those people have been promised an appointment.

No fewer than five women from the flooded communities camping at the Crowther Memorial Primary School Camp, Onitsha, Anambra State, have delivered babies.

Our correspondent, who visited the camp on Monday, gathered that the women were immediately taken to the General Hospital, Onitsha for proper medication.

Speaking to our correspondent at the camp, the camp supervisor, Theresa Okoye, said many groups and individuals have visited the camp with food items and relief materials.

Okoye disclosed that the inmates, numbering about 1,800, came from the 17 different communities of the Anambra West Local Government Area, including Nzam, Ukwala, Inoma, and Owele, among others.

This is just as the inmates complain that the relief materials donated to them do not get to them, who are supposed to be the target beneficiaries.

They lamented that they use the little money they are left with to buy soaps and other groceries for their laundry needs when a lot of such items were brought to the camp.

Some of the refugees, Mrs Victoria Okafor from Mmiata-Anam, Ndubuisi Eze from Umudora-Anam, a father of 12; Obeche Solomon and Ignatius Mokwe, also from Umudora-Anam,

They identified their major problem in the camp as a lack of sleeping materials such as mattresses, as many of them sleep on bare floors and in the open.

They said, “We appeal to the government, groups, and individuals visiting the camp to share the relief materials for all the refugees directly rather than handing them over to particular persons.

“The relief materials don’t get to us. We use our money to buy soaps and tubes of toothpaste, whereas all these items were brought by the donors. The cash the donors bring always ends up in a few people’s pockets, and it is not a good idea.
