With what happened in Nigeria this election and the news I read online media, I have decided that Nigerians are the problem. Since Nigeria has been divided along Ethnic lines, I think it is to my best interest to pull this post/topic down as I won’t be helping anyone not from my tribe and I give up on Nigeria. If you’re writing me via email and not my tribe, I will not in anyway assist you be it in Nigeria or abroad.

I have always said this! which brings me to asking you this question are you from any of the 3 major tribes or a Minority tribe in Nigeria? because i saw your other post taken too, it was a very interesting post which i expected to be on the front page as we both share similar views and ideas.

The only realistic way to get residency in USA these days is through marriage. Canada anyday, collect ya citizenship and move later to USA if you wish.

The Canadian system is starting to notice their immigrants come in and get their citizenship, then move south. hopefully they don't go back to 5yrs or even more of naturalization to get their citizenship!

This just tells your there's more better opportunities in the south!

Go for truck driving and I can hire you as a driver and fresh out of school I will be paying you 0.45 cpm loaded or unloaded and 3000 miles weekly. If I sponsor your school I will pay you 0.35 cpm and you will work for me for 2 years. I have health benefits, 401k matching, PTO, SPL and tuition reimbursement.

Nigerian truck experience is different from US experience. There things you need to know here that you don’t know in Nigeria. The DeF system, 5th wheel, spreading of axles and how to drive during winter, following the ELD and traffic signs, weigh stations and how to spread your weight. Remember each loaded FTL is 80,000lbs. And how to use the Air ride system

I will advise you to learn how to drive it in Nigeria, come over here and enroll in a 3 weeks school to learn and write the exam then get your CDL and work briefly for major carriers like CR England, Jb hunt and others. It will cost you atleast $5k to enroll and get your CDL.

Hello, I love driving only problem is getting a CDL, i would love to come into the business and make it a family business as an owner & operator because i would like to retire owning my own business. what state are you residing ? can you help with training on how to get a CDL (this is the hardest part as it cost a whole lot in going to a truck driving training school).

Why in the world will any one who's got an EU citizenship want to come to Canada? Canada is overrated! i have lived there for almost 2 decades ( Calgary and Winnipeg ) and i keep telling folks if you got another option like the UK and Australia or NZ go for it! unless you don't have an option you can consider Canada.

Canadians cant even afford vacations without working 2 jobs or a side hustle, all they do is work work work! the pay sucks and the US dollar kicks the Canadian dollars in the ass.
I am sorry Sir, I totally disagree with this statement. Well maybe this is true amongst your clique or circle but within my circle this is not the case.
Canada is the land where subtle racism was invented, you need to write one certification or get one license or the other for you to get into a real professional gig as your experiences outside the country means nothing to them!

I also disagree with this statement. In my field (finance/accounting/auditing), ur experience outside Canada is not discounted and u don’t need to write any professional exams before u get professional jobs in that industry.

Toronto and Vancouver are the most expensive cities but lots of opportunities ( a more milder climate of maybe -20 in the deep winter) there, just like Newyork and California but be ready to rent someones basement. Even Canadians are looking for greener pastures in the Us. My friend Honestly the lawn is not always as green as it looks on the otherside. If you consider other provinces be prepared for the cold and owning 2 cars insurance is thru the roof, telecoms bills are crazily expensive. the wether makes everyone depressed. Think Again!

My Parents are African Americans on a mission to Nigeria from the 70's to 90's, I am a Nigerian because i was born in Nigeria and I have always had good relationships with Nigerians while in Nigeria and Outside Africa.

They have also talked about the school systems being too "woke".

Thanks for the input. It is not necessary a case of the lawn being greener on the other side. We have done some research into Canada and are still doing our research and of course continue to learn from people like you who have plenty of first hand experience. We have achieved what we set out for by getting EU citizenship - not just the passport and material stuff but also mental and language stuff for couple and kids. You get to a level where you feel you need a change to take your career to the next level. The wife and kids are strong fans of Canada as well and until recently, I was at the back seat in our family regarding the move. I and my spouse both felt it was time to look elsewhere - an anglophone country preferably. So the choice was between the UK and Canada. We are still collecting data and even if we try Canada and do not like it, we can always move elsewhere.

The points you raised are valid points that we are taking into consideration.

Now that you have said all these, i will be quite frank and honest with you, I am an American citizen but born in Nigeria and Nigerian Raised, left 9ja after my college days. My wife ( high school sweet heart) on the other hand is a Canadian citizen and was an advocate for us raising our kids in Canada but thank God i let her have her way (until she saw the truth) and now we are happily living our lives with our kids in the US. and yes i am an American and a Canadian.

I also am in the Power Generation Industry Nuclear turbines and CCGT. The USA has so much unlimited opportunities when it comes to our field but in Canada only the white Canadians are allowed to venture into such fields ( even in the military only on very rare occasions) speaking from my experience i think I've seen it all. i will not discourage you but i will encourage you to go back to your drawing boards and do some more research. The USA gives you options as a professional and depending on your specialization they will welcome your experience from other countries but that is not the case for Canada, not only that, you have got 50 states to choose from even if you want a Nigerian weather its in the US!

Another key aspect is education for the kids, the opportunities are just immense in terms of sports and talent seeking, their High schools are top notch. In Canada when my kids were in middle school and high school the educational level was just too poor and laid back, they don't drill the kids with extra homework and assignments. I can categorically tell you my kids went to one of the best top rated public high schools in the us ( which was a struggle for them the first year, but the had to sit up) and we have been so glad we left Canada ever since.

Just like every other western country you just have to look for a home where the schools in that vicinity are highly rated in terms of academics and sports, trust me when i say true born Canadians are leaving Canada for the us because of lack of opportunities. the Canadian economy thrives on immigration and it will get to a point where if not well managed the structure will start to deteriorate. Indians have messed the country up and they have carved a niche for themselves that they look at Africans and Nigerians most especially as big competition for them and they will go all out to frustrate you. But guess what? they have little or no say in the US! my family and I have tons of experience with Canada and we r so glad we left and now living our American Dream!

65k GBP a year is a great pay, thats about 110K CAD. Depending on where you are going to be staying, Canada is relatively more expensive. I learnt you even pay more tax than the UK, don't compare yourself with UK residents with student visas who are always crying fowl, yet they payed just 10% of the tuition before moving to the Uk, yet they somehow pay the rest of the fees while even taken care of wife and kids and rent. In your case, you are automatically entitled to ILR after 5 years, after tax you will get over 4k pounds a month, that's easy 7k CAD. Most people I know in Canada are also doing care jobs and customer service and the pay range is usually 10-15 CAD/ hr. Getting the good jobs that pays over 100k CAD no easy at all. Don't be deceived little things like clothes,food,toys and other things we buy everyday are cheaper in the UK.

FYI, my wife and I earn about 70k pounds BTW us and we are doing fine.

The Biggest and Number one problem we have in Nigeria is TRIBALISM! There is no moving forward for this country until it divides, with North, South, East and West ( forget get all this south west and south east) going their separate ways! Remember this and always know peace.

Personally I don't trust an Igbo man to deliver Nigeria, neither do i trust Peter Obi and his Cohorts ( Atiku & BAT ). Needless to say when 3 rotten tomatoes are placed on a table to fry some eggs you select the one that is strong, so that the knife can cut through easily without the knife squashing it. This rotten tomatoes happens to be Peter Obi.

I schooled years ago in the East between Enugu and Anambra to be precise, these people are a different breed, i still have friends from the east but i keep them at arms length, you got to be wise when dealing with these folks because they are very SLY, fearless and heartless when it comes to achieving a goal ! They are very cunning and will smile at you while cutting your flesh before your very eyes.

At this point as Nigerians for now, we can only hope Peter Obi turns out to be a new leaf if he eventually wins and hope he steers the country in the right direction! Ebele Goodluck Jonathan was one of the best presidents Nigeria ever Had. God help Nigerians as i see nothing good coming after this election and in the future.

its personal preference, honestly in my own opinion the Uk is better because of proximity to 9ja, better schools and the pounds sterling makes sense. on the other hand there is a huge culture shock when you move from the Uk to Canada and even more when moving from 9ja to Canada.

No i wouldnt do it again, i setteled in Manitoba and moved to Alberta after 8yrs.

There is nothing quality about Canadian education, coming from a guy who has a family and has stayed in this country for 16yrs, education is overrated for children here UK and USA is better note i lived in the UK before. yes you guys will get your citizenship after 3yrs then what next??

3. Wifey should take up a small job that would allow her take care of the kids while studying for her nursing exams.
Good move if she is the Hustling type, it is easier said than done canada weather is not mild like in the uk

4. Wify would benefit from the child care benefits of up to 700cad per child coupled with the free education for the kids. The CCB money and her small salary can be used to take care of the home front while u work and save heavily from your UK salary.

Who is lying to you on that one? 700cad per child lol? think am now people go get baby factory and not work again, yes your kids will have free education up until tertiary institution which is not free but u payless as a citizen which is still expensive depending on your income education is not cheap in canada.

5. I would make periodic visits to my family in Canada maybe once a quarter. while working in UK, I will be actively applying for Jobs in Canada and eventually relocate to join my family in Canada.

Good/bad move, but remeber your wife will be working, is it night shift? who will cater for the kids? u may loose your kids to foster care if your neighbours find out and report you. canadians are very nosy!

However, if I were in your shoes, I wouldn’t do this because I don’t think I can leave apart from my family ( I would move with my family to Canada and keep pushing from there)… but if u are not bothered about staying away from ur family then u can go ahead with my advise.

Just like the USA, you can have your child in any of the provinces in Canada and the child automatically becomes a Canadian citizen, in terms of cost it is more affordable, but getting a visa to Canada will be the huge hurdle!

I have lived 8yrs in Manitoba and 8yrs in Calgary Alberta, both cities cannot be compared obviously the later is better than the other in terms of job opportunity, and diversity! although both are very cold, the chinook winds comes in the middle of the winter to melt the snow and give some few days of warmth b4 it gets cold again. in Manitoba nothing like that, very flat terrain and when it is cold woe betides any witches and wizards that try to fly across!

PROCESSING FEES :

Is the Diversity Visa FREE ?

No. There is a big confusion. Only the participation in the Diversity Visa Lottery was free but the winners must pay the visa processing fees.

United States Permanent Resident Card Granted! - Waiting for payment of processing fee US $875.00

Although the Diversity Visa participation was free, the law and regulations require to every diversity visa winner to pay a visa processing fee of US $875.00. If you do not have a passport you can use your National ID or Birth Certificate.

That shouldn't be a problem. You should notify KCC that you wish the case to be handled in Canada, and you should alert the Canadian Embassy or Consulate that would be handling the case that you'd like the case transferred to them. If the case is still with KCC, KCC and the Canadian post will handle it. If the case has already been sent to us, Canada will work with us to transfer the case.

Keep in mind that not all posts handle immigrant visas and Diversity Visas. If you ask KCC to transfer the case to a post that doesn't process DVs, you may inadvertently set off a bureaucratic nightmare the likes of which are seldom seen. I'd check with the Canadian post first to be sure they're the right one.

I relocated to canada with my family last year and I hold a permanent resident status, my question is; I hope it is possible for us to continue our DV application process here in Canada as we no longer reside in Nigeria?
