Samuell2019: F2 visa application The husband and wife couldn't apply together because the husband isn't in the country at the moment. Location: Lagos Embassy Result: Denied
Transcript
VO: Why are you going to the US? F2 applicant: I’d like to go spend some time with my spouse, who is starting a PhD in ____ at ______ University.
VO: (cuts conversation off) How long have you been married? F2 applicant: Today makes it 4 months we’ve been married. We’ve been together for 5 years.
VO: When did you meet? F2 applicant: We met in 2019, we were in final year in school.
VO: (Proceeds to have a long conversation with two other VOs) How long would you be there for? F2 applicant: A month so I can return to my ……
VO: So why aren’t you applying for a visiting visa B1 B2 F2 applicant: I applied for F2 since my husband holds an F1…..
V.O: (Cuts conversation off while typing and focusing on her screen)…Since you’d spent a month, why are you not applying for a visiting visa? How am I supposed to believe you’d return? F2 applicant: I have a growing career and a business to return to. We recently acquired a piece of land to start building our future home. I will be supervising the building project, and I have the land documents here….
V.O: I don’t need to see that (continues typing). What do you do? How much do you make? F2 applicant: I tell how much I make and what I do. Then, proceed to say, we’re a really young couple, and I’d like to spend my next annual leave in January with my husband.
V.O: I’m sorry you do not qualify (hands blue paper).
I'd really appreciate any help on how to proceed in the future. I think your best bet, would be the B1/B2, get it. Visit your husband and then reapply for the F2 since they mentioned why not B1/B2 which would give you an upper edge. That's what I would do if it was me. But it's all up to you what you want. |

Shueld06: Lol. Poverty in Nigeria has really affected us with this japa issue. It wasn’t like this many years ago. So everyone that has money in Nigeria must travel out? Or you mean everyone is interested in travelling out? Why’d you think that’s even the reason the OP’s visa was denied? lol do you even know VO denies visa for any reason at all ranging from mood to just “let this guy apply again”? Allow him to be saying rubbish. Our parents generations didn't like to travel out. In their generation they saw people who travelled out as failures. It's our generations now who are making moves and then we make our parents visit. And when they visit most of them do not want to return. So dunno the rubbish that OP is saying. |

odukames: Lol, okay, keep arguing na. So, the VO just asked if his/her parents have travelled for cruise abi? The interviewee said their Dad is sponsoring their education but doesn't provide any details as to how he is able to. Funding and immigrant intent are the two major reasons for F1 denial.
If you already assume VOs just want to deny you, you've already lost the game. Even if this is true, put your best foot forward and eliminate any possible excuse they may have. The OP came here for prep advice and I gave him/her based on my limited experience and knowledge. I'm done. If you're saying the interviewee didn't mention where the dad works that's a different statement, but saying she was denied cos the dad has 10k to pay and hasn't travelled is a big lie. That's my argument simple. |

odukames: 1. Do you have any funding? How much is showing on your I-20? If it's over $10k and your Dad is paying all of it, then it's rather weird that he's never travelled before. It might sound normal to a Nigerian but not so much from an American perspective (though some of their rich people only travel within the States but they would expect that a rich Nigerian would wanna see outside Nigeria).
2. Denying your sister isn't a good move. But we can't tell conclusively whether they connected the dots or not. While telling them about your sister might put you in a tight spot, everything really depends on how good a story you can tell.
The problem now though is that if you're applying again and you just magically pop out a new detail about your sister, wahala! I'll recommend you talk to solid immigration experts, preferably a former VO. You can check out "ZF Visa" on YouTube. Me I no trust all these Naija agents, sorry! Your first statement makes no sense. Not all parents want to travel out, plus most times it's we as kids who make our parents visit when we have crossed over so what you just Saif makes no sense. One thing with VOs they can use anything to deny anyone that's all |

BornToSucced: The form says:
"This is to inform you that you have been found ineligible for a nonimmigrant visa under Section 214(b) of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act. A denial under Section 214(b) means that you were not able to demonstrate that your intended activities in the United States would be consistent with the classification of the nonimmigrant visa for which you applied".
There were not many questions apart from how many schools i applied, my undergraduate program, and when I graduated.
Those guys just de share yellow slips like souvenirs 😒😒😒 So what does yellow paper mean? |

So what else wouldit take? Asking genuinly. I am in this case although i studied Bsc 3 years in uk and i didn'tget any funding. 1stGenAmerican: Simple. Then they’ll be able to successfully convince the VO that they can comfortably cover tuition, airfare, and expenses. Technically, that can be done but it’ll take much more than talk. |

Everyone keeps saying funding, funding. Not everyone would get a scholarship (or am I wrong) what if people can genuinely cover that tuition? |

PrimeTEA: I knew about this PART 18 late.
I got my VISA APPROVED on June 24th. Myself, Wife and 2 kids.
Thanks to everybody here that gave me one advice or the other. Shoutout to @OyotunjiUSA for his prompt answers and criticism. And also to @fearlessfang & @debieee for encouraging me to go with my 3F2s.
I'll recommend this thread to everyone who need firsthand information about F1 Visa. The information here is unquantifiable and organic.
Thanks to everyone, wishing us all the very best and successful interview. Please can you share your transcript. |

VeeInsider: Hello, everyone. I'd like to ask. What are the application deadlines at U.S. universities?
Like for example, if I intend applying to schools to resume lectures Spring 2025, when do I start applying and what's the deadline? Applications are ongoing even for summer 2025. You apply now. |
